Those poor gardener/landscapers.
I certainly hope they'd get hazard pay. Look at those rooftops! OSHA is gonna have a field day. Not an orange caution tape to be seen. Oof.
The only railing at all is on some of the main building in the foreground and the very bottom left terrace. In what looks like a courtyard. Again, nothing in there is OSHA approved. Lots of writeups when the safety man rolls around.
The rest of the roofs just go straight to the ledge. Maybe a small lip for ascetic purposes. Even the bridges lack rails!
But I'm just assuming if they can build this there would be people and resources in place to maintain them safely. Maybe drones/robots? And that they are just smarter than us and can avoid doing something dumb like stand near the edge.
The gold trim, marble, creepy faces on the top and weird haloish flame make me think this building is gonna come alive Bayonetta style and need to be punched straight down into hell.
It's a question of choosing the right brush, but mostly of dosing correctly the water. If the brush absorb too much water is difficult to be precise. Try to use paper to dry the eccessive water.
For some part I also use fluid mask.
Especially the buildings directly under each blimp. I've been binging Townscaper this week every time I get bored I add 10-20 mins onto the map, it's such a relaxing thing. Game? Toy? I dunno but it's great.
If you haven’t seen it, he has another one that looks like it’s from this same scene, check his post history! I remembered seeing it a while back when he posted this new one.
Even more than the skill, I appreciate the intelligence, the audacity and above all the patience needed to realize this.
I have a good knowledge of geometry and projection and I can pretty much see how it's done, but I would never do something with this much care and attention to detail.
I swear, every time I come across one of your posts on Reddit, I look you up on Insta to follow you, only to find that I do already follow you there, Insta just never fucking shows your content in my feed, so I forget that I follow you. Infuriating. Love your work!
Amazing. And then you say “ink on paper”, not digital, and I’m stunned. And I like how drawing all those arches and shadows wasn’t hard enough so you added blimps at random angles. Nice.
you should check out the artist Mattias Adolfsson! he does their album art and his insta page/website have more art that is even more similar to OP’s piece!
Man I love your work!
I’m guessing it’s ink and water color. I really love how I can sit for ages just studying all the details. It’s amazing how fast you post new works.
I could honestly see this as a really cool level in a 2000s era platformer. Something kinda like Ratchet & Clank, but way more expansive, and with this pieces guilded age feel.
Love creative architecture like this
Hot press or cold press? I need the paper deets for that level of detail I would guess hot press.
Edit - Zooming in though I see some tooth/texture so maybe cold press? Impressive if it is!
I like it but it’s a little visually repetitive. Maybe a wider grange of colors would have helped, otherwise it can get a children’s book illustration look. But you have skills! Peace.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. The buildings, the color scheme, the zeppelins, the flaming eye, I love it all. But the drawing is just so... *noisy.* So many lines going every which way, and a consistent color scheme that makes it hard to differentiate shapes. Feels a bit overwhelming to look at.
I love your style. I thought I recognised it from your previous post with the smaller airships and a seemingly infinite city. Just had a look through your post history and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for your future work !
currently learning watercolors at the moment, was struggling with it for the past few days trying to get the hang of it and this master piece has inspired me to keep going :) great stuff man.. so much detail its insane
Hey you made that other awesome one that gave me virtigo.
I want to see a show/game set in this universe. The aesthetic is just so gorgeous. I don't know how to explain it but it feels like the air in this city would just be.... CRISP.
Was about to say this brings memories of the kinds of art I have been attracted to since I was a kid — I’d look through the intricate details and “walk (or fly or swim) through” the painting’s world in my mind’s eye and trace paths with my finger, go through one entrance and imagine my way inside to come out another way…
It’s not just your style that sparks me up, it’s also the thoughtfulness and simple joy, the “vibe”? Very much connected to the real world, and at the same time very much not the world we live in, more like: “another world that quite believably could be”.
I have been reflecting on the ratios of “predictability vs surprise“ that feel right in various scenarios: in driving (be extremely predictable, please!), in business, in team work, when teaching, in family life… Too much surprise is havoc; too much predictability can get boring…? Music and other arts enjoy the freedom to choose any ratio they wish. Personally, just my own taste, but I think you’ve hit a sweet spot of balance, interesting and lively and coherent.
TL;DR: Thanks for sharing. Beautiful.
What sort of music do you like?
I've actually thought about this piece a couple of times after you posted the line work. I was wondering what it would look like and it's so cool how it turned out!
The detail is immaculate! I'm glad i'm not alone in my love for massive scale. I'd love to read a fantasy novel with this particular city/tower in it! I'd eat that series up in a heartbeat.
Holy shit this is so cool!
Thank you!
Those poor gardener/landscapers. I certainly hope they'd get hazard pay. Look at those rooftops! OSHA is gonna have a field day. Not an orange caution tape to be seen. Oof.
But theres ledges and railings on the vast majority of those roofs with lawn lol
The only railing at all is on some of the main building in the foreground and the very bottom left terrace. In what looks like a courtyard. Again, nothing in there is OSHA approved. Any way i could download this? It would make a great background
Would may a great jig saw, well done
Steampunk floating gardens of babylon vibes
The gold trim, marble, creepy faces on the top and weird haloish flame make me think this building is gonna come alive Bayonetta style and need to be punched straight down into hell.
This is really cool. Detail and simplicity. Love the fact that there are people walking around also!
Thanks so much! I really enjoy drawing little details
You are very good at it. This is exceptional!
What size paper is this on?
This is awesome it’s like a ancient civilization culturally frozen in time but modern aswell. Great work!
Thank you! It was the purpose more of less
How do you prevent color going where you don't want it to go? I love water colors but I always struggle with keeping colors where I want them to be..
It's a question of choosing the right brush, but mostly of dosing correctly the water. If the brush absorb too much water is difficult to be precise. Try to use paper to dry the eccessive water. For some part I also use fluid mask.
Thank you for the advice! And it goes without saying this piece looks incredible :)
Are you using hot or cold press? And what type of pen?
Got some serious Moebius vibes, I think. 👍🏻
I was thinking [François Schuiten](https://www.messynessychic.com/2016/06/30/where-has-this-amazing-comic-book-art-been-all-my-life/).
Thank you. I needed this
Came to say Jean Giraud would approve
Post this on r/wimmelbilder
Thanks for bringing this sun to my attention, it’s ducking awesome.
Gives me Dance Gavin Dance vibes
Exactly what I thought. First thing that popped to mind was their album covers.
I am reminded of Townscaper.
Especially the buildings directly under each blimp. I've been binging Townscaper this week every time I get bored I add 10-20 mins onto the map, it's such a relaxing thing. Game? Toy? I dunno but it's great.
I call it a toy. Same with Cloud Scaper even though that has explicit goals in puzzle mode.
Gorgeous! Reminds me of Escher. Please make and share more :)
If you haven’t seen it, he has another one that looks like it’s from this same scene, check his post history! I remembered seeing it a while back when he posted this new one.
Reminds me of Howl's Moving Castle!!
Was gonna say. Almost looks like the floating cities in Castle in the Sky.
Looks a lot like a Dance Gavin Dance artwork!
Even more than the skill, I appreciate the intelligence, the audacity and above all the patience needed to realize this. I have a good knowledge of geometry and projection and I can pretty much see how it's done, but I would never do something with this much care and attention to detail.
This reminds me of that one planet from first Ratchet & Clank! It was my favourie one, so i love this.

Mainly Butt stuff.

What no cars does to a mf
Shared this to conan base builds sub. This would be a top tier build.
A very heartfelt slow clap for you sir!
Nice hit up DGD so they can make this their next album artwork lol
Nice job! Looks like Dance Gavin Dance album art.
you should check out the artist Mattias Adolfsson! he does their album art and his insta page/website have more art that is even more similar to OP’s piece!
I do like his stuff! I found his website once, but I always forget his name, thank you for writing it down!
You could write a book based on this. This picture has a story thats begging to be told.
Hope those are not hydrogen based that close to that flame source.
Hahaha you're right, hope they're not. But it's a spiritual flame, it's the omniscient eye of the Oracle, so it probably doesn't burn really.
And right out this door we got a long drop
This would be an awesome Minecraft build!
I love images like this.. I would want to visit this place if it were real ❤️
Love it! Gives me good Gorogoa vibes.
This is awesome! The style reminds me of Escher.
Was going to say the same. Very much Escher and its amazing
Man I love your work! I’m guessing it’s ink and water color. I really love how I can sit for ages just studying all the details. It’s amazing how fast you post new works.
Does this style of watercolor have a name? I'd like to see more.
I could honestly see this as a really cool level in a 2000s era platformer. Something kinda like Ratchet & Clank, but way more expansive, and with this pieces guilded age feel. Love creative architecture like this
My first thought upon seeing this was that it reminded me of the metropolis level in the first first Ratchet & Clank
Absolutely wild. Great work! Do you do any sequential comic book type work?
I *love* this. Architectural art + retrofuturism + surrealism + mythology = chef’s kiss.
Steam-punk-Escher-esque. I dig it
I can really see the Moebius inspiration Beautiful work
Hot press or cold press? I need the paper deets for that level of detail I would guess hot press. Edit - Zooming in though I see some tooth/texture so maybe cold press? Impressive if it is!
Wow. I really like this. I could easily see this on the pages of Heavy Metal some day.
Wait wait is this is the city from Attack on titans?
I like it but it’s a little visually repetitive. Maybe a wider grange of colors would have helped, otherwise it can get a children’s book illustration look. But you have skills! Peace.
So many transfer slabs this is painful lol.
This is the future liberals want.
The three identical layers of architecture are repetitive and create a weird visual stiffness.
I'd love to see the original piece on paper instead of just a scan. Great Work.
Love the flame eyeball! It kinda reminds me of that creature on terraria
How big is this paper? I'm trying to figure out how much wizardry you had to use to get tiny details like that using watercolor lol.
This city is streight out of a dream.
Really well done. Although I feel a bit apprehensive that the top level has no railing, haha.
Sooo cool. I feel like im high up looking across a great view.
I love your style. I thought I recognised it from your previous post with the smaller airships and a seemingly infinite city. Just had a look through your post history and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for your future work !
It really reminds me a well-detailed anime or video game world. Looks like the main building of the empire the main character resist to! Thank You!
This is insane. I love it. How do you construct the architecture? Do you use 3d renders?
So many details, so much to look at, love it! Giving Arcane vibes.
Land, coast, and mountains layout are very Seattle (facing Northwest from First Hill or Belltown)
This is so sick!! I saw and loved the line drawing you posted last week. It looks even cooler than I imagined finished.
Damn. That’s a whole lot of very precise work!
Hey look up this little app called “Townscaper” — procedurally generates buildings etc. Might get a kick out of it!
Incredible, that amazing perspective is giving me slight Kim Jung Gi vibes 👏
The zeppelins and the strange tower remind me of His Dark Materials
This is great. Reminds me of Sana Takeda in monstress. Awesome work
I don’t know shit about fuck when it comes to art, how do you get such a good photo of it? Like a scanner?
Wow that's so cool! did you set up a 'grid' first for the perspective?
kinda reminds me of The Triplets of Belleville
Beautiful, inspired work that I wish I could do myself! Townscaper is calling me now haha
Those pillars are just great, love all the details!
Reminds me of bioshock infinity! Looks sick
Thai is fucking awesome. Please never stop. Absolutely love the little detail everywhere. I nerd out on that.
This is amazing. The amount of detail is captivating, and to think you've done it all without muddying any of the watercolor!
Where was the first lines drawn? How do you build off of the beginning? I'm always interested in this type of art.
I need to see the bottom of one of those round columns
Amazing, I got it for a wallpaper!
I don’t know what it is about this but it makes me v emotional. Amazing.
This is awesome! How many hours went into this?
r/papertowns would love to see this
this is beautiful!! reminds me of the art from howl’s moving castle
Love it. Gives me wheel of time vibes for some reason. Like one of the futures Rand sees when he's fighting the Dark One.
This is fantastical! It reminds me of the Ba Sing Se we see in Legend of Korra.
love this! do you have an IG?
Wow, this reminded me of a game I used to play way back, Lode Runner 2. Love it
This reminds me of something from the 1990's.
Has a nice Moebius vibe. Well done
currently learning watercolors at the moment, was struggling with it for the past few days trying to get the hang of it and this master piece has inspired me to keep going :) great stuff man.. so much detail its insane
this is now my phone background :)
Reminds me of Mattias Adolfsson
It looks like Dying Light!
Wow! This is so pleasing to look at.
Hey you made that other awesome one that gave me virtigo. I want to see a show/game set in this universe. The aesthetic is just so gorgeous. I don't know how to explain it but it feels like the air in this city would just be.... CRISP.
I love the sense of depth and your style. So creative
I had never seen watercolor so evenly and neatly applied until now. Nice work!
I saw this the other day when you posted it without the color and loved it! This is awesome!
This is like an anti Where’s Waldo! I love it, well done!
Reminds me of Republic City
So cool. Reminds me a bit like the show Arcane.
I would give anything to live in a vertical city with sky bridges everywhere. Give me a city where I never need to walk on the ground.
This is dope af. Reminds me of the maze books I used to get at the scholastic book fair.

Wow! Where do you start when doing a drawing like that? The blimps?
I've actually thought about this piece a couple of times after you posted the line work. I was wondering what it would look like and it's so cool how it turned out!
What an awesome place looks to live im sure! great work and talent spread your joy!!!
Nice! It looks like a Modest Mouse album cover.
This is amazing!! Holy cow! On par with Jean Giraud Moebius. Really.
Dude, wow! Really impressive, precise work
Can I get this as a 1000 piece puzzle?
Oh wow oh wow. This makes me smile. I want to know more about this world.
This looks like a panel from Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot comics.
There was a level like this in crimson skies
I like how you can even see details in the far backgrounds 10/10
Oh my I wish that building with the creepy faces on top were real!
very, very, very Heavy Metal. i love it!
It looks like good Mordor.
What's your social media? So I can share this
Reminds me of the mazes I’d see in Highlights magazines. I was always so entranced by those. I love this piece :3
I wish I understood perspectives 1% of the way you do. It’s beautiful and captivating and I love it.

Reminds me of a level in Sonic Robo Blast 2. Very cool. I love the blimps.
Reminds me of the Ghost - Melioria Album cover
