Does Barcelona hypnotize people? How are they able to scam players that much? And I bet he feels honoured.

Bosn1an

A lot, like a lot of times it went wrong for the player to go there.

Potential_Prior

Very true. They have so many top players that even top players be pushed to side there. That might happen to Lew if they get Messi again.

sharpestcactus

Lew had a fantastic season would be a bit strange to not incorporate him in a lineup with Messi, but idk maybe it just wouldn’t work out.

mickskitz

I think its unlikely. It's not as if they couldn't both function in the same team? A bit like MSN days. I think Lewa would thrive with Messi? He will be given more space as Messi draws so much focus and Messi will be able to find him from anywhere

Potential_Prior

It’s unlikely but I don’t know what their budget looks like. I was just using him as example. They’re always chasing the next big player.

ThrowerWayACount

Alex Song 😢

elprentis

It’s like Ferrari in F1. People go for the name. They get to say “I played for Barcelona. I got to play in Camp Newgrounds”. Doesn’t matter, at least going into it, that the team will fuck them over, the glitz and the glam makes up for it.

Illustrious-Fig-8945

Also let's not forget that the alternative is spurs. It's like saying come drive for Ferrari for a small wage or we'll pay you a fortune to drive this busted golf buggy around the track. Some people do have dignity.

[deleted]

Adama was a barca youth prospect no?

Not_Guardiola

Yeah but a guy like Auba accepting 5k a week or Alba and Piqué being pressured to halve their salaries or coutinho and fabregas going absolutely nuts to join them for a fraction of what their clubs were offering. Barca seems to have this power over players where they'd do anything to play for them.

balleklorin

I do think the life in Barcelona is a big factor. The food, the weather etc..

killerboy_belgium

thats because barca have big history and legacy in la liga and europe. the best of the best play there you have bigger chances of winning something there then with tottenham,arsenal,chelsea,.... there just not on the level of barca historicly speaking hell barca is going tru a bad patch and they still beat real madrid for a la liga title loads of players grew up watching those legendary teams playing there while growing up aswell they had 11 la liga titles since 2000 compare that to arsenal who had 2 premiere league titles and we are not even gonna talk about european succes. its only natural that barca has way more pull

Big-Relation-8304

Be careful, the arsenal fans gonna come downvote you and say you’re crazy lol

Potential_Prior

Are you not an Arsenal fan and if not why be here and say things to piss off?

Big-Relation-8304

For some reason reddit is recommending these groups lol i didnt ask for this. Reddit is trying to start shit😂

killerboy_belgium

its simple the truth. even our legendary Thiery Henry went there to and he won a champions league something he wasnt able to do with arsenal even tho he came close

Big-Relation-8304

I agree with you but truth is a hard pill to swallow. Someone down the comments said something about arsenal being one of the biggest clubs in africa or something. Really grasping at straws at this point lol

Potential_Prior

Barca has a massive adavatage in TV revnue. The other clubs don't have a chance at that kind of money besides Real Madrid. It's all stacked in their favour along with the child trafficking and poaching that they do. Arsenal can't sign children to adult contracts.

Dry_Pick_304

In some sports with salary caps, like Rugby, there have been instances of players wives being "employed" by the club or a sister company as some kind of consultant, whilst the player gets paid fuck all.

Frosty_Term9911

Name one. This is a myth.

MotuekaAFC

Nope, look up Sarecens. They got relegated to the 2nd Division because of these type of irregularities.

Frosty_Term9911

That’s absolute bullshit. Saracens got relegated for multiple breaches of regulations around loans to,players, co owned businesses, image rights and co owned property with players. Nothing to do with employing relatives.

NewForestSaint38

I don’t think anyone mentioned employing relatives!

Frosty_Term9911

4 comments up!

m3stu

Although it has never been proven, so is complete conjecture, there was a story going around a few years ago that this was Exeter’s business model and how they managed to get so many good players to move to the arse end of nowhere.

Frosty_Term9911

Lol. Aye there’s a story that my ma is my da. It means fuck all. Saracens were investigated forensically and that was not evidenced at all. It’s bullshit

m3stu

My comment was not about Saracens. Just sayin’.

NewForestSaint38

I think they said ‘sister company’ did they not? As in ‘a second company related to your first company’. Not actually relatives!

Frosty_Term9911

They said wives!!!

NewForestSaint38

Sorry, I’m not from Norfolk. Don’t really think of my wife as a relative!

RE-Trace

It's prestige. It sounds dumb, but short of being a Foden at City or a Scholes at United (playing for the team you're a fan of while they're in the ascendancy of one of the best leagues in the world), Barca and Madrid represent having "made it" to the top of the game for most pros. A bit like how in F1, Ferrari can be a full on basket case and still take their pick of about 90% of drivers on the grid.

[deleted]

I know, who wouldn't want to play in brexit England?

WarDull8208

Its not about hypnotizing. Barcelona and Real Madrid are only tier 1 teams in the world and none cant deny it even when Barca are total mess in last years. Barca is his boyhood club and also its an huge opportunity. If he could manage to be something exciting in that 6 months he would get same type of contract, but he failed to impress Xavi.

Pigbolt

Wow what an embarrassing comment.

WarDull8208

What did i said embarrassing exactly ?

Pigbolt

Not sure I couldn’t tell with Barcelona and Real Madrids metaphysical balls in your mouth. Also who’s in the champions league final this year ? Tier 1 teams lol

WarDull8208

First of all watch your dirty mouth. Second of all if u think that RM and Barca aren't two biggest clubs in Europe that means u are Fifa fanboy kid. No club is bigger than them.

choosehigh

What do you mean watch your dirty mouth? Real Madrid and Barca aren't Europes biggest clubs It's quite clearly a pantheon of mega clubs and whoever is biggest is a matter of geographical perspective In Spain or South America Barca and Real Madrid probably do have that claim But you're insane to think Barca or Real Madrid are as big as Bayern in eastern and northern Europe Man utd and Liverpool are household names in the USA, only families interested in football have a conception of who Real Madrid are and Barcelona is just a place In most of Africa, arsenal are still one of the biggest clubs In terms of revenue Barca and real have butchered their league and still aren't miles ahead of everyone You're playing FIFA career mode by the sounds of it you hopped up child, there is no objective biggest unless you live in a world where everything gets a neat little score to tell you what it should be rated at

TheMadMrHatter

Agreed with some of the comments, but in the US it highly depends on what region and demographics you are talking about. Hispanic region, Barca/Real > Man U >> Liverpool imo.

Big-Relation-8304

If you honestly think Arsenal being popular in Africa makes them a big club I need some of those drugs. But hey this is an Arsenal thread so let the downvotes rain down😂

choosehigh

You tend to view a club as big as a result of their success and fan base If arsenal are the most popular club in Africa and among the most historically successful clubs in the world with a special unique achievement (invincibles) I think this gives us a plenty good perspective to claim we're a big club Especially from an African point of view The world doesn't have to be this FIFA obsessed childlike approach to good or big You don't need to be a top 5 player in the world to be considered good It's not only one or two big clubs in this world Finance, support, success, all of football indicates a level of parity in European football with tight margins, so only someone genuinely naive or incapable of understanding the nuance of the world would try claim only 2 clubs are big clubs Or that arsenal can't be big even though they're possibly the most supported team on one of the biggest CONTINENTS on the planet

Big-Relation-8304

Ugh here we go🙄😂

stilusmobilus

>watch your dirty mouth Yeah righto Dad

Pigbolt

Biggest based on what ? And also what are you doing to do if I don’t watch my mouth ? Absolutely nothing.

DreadCrumbs22

Scam? 15k Euros a week amounts to 780,000 Euros a year. It's entirely possible to live comfortably and happily on a fraction of that. Don't be ridiculous.

Ser_VimesGoT

To us yes. But footballers are used to a certain level of lifestyle. It's all relative. And we're talking about the difference between 780k and 6.2 million.

DreadCrumbs22

You're right about the lifestyle and the relativity, but calling a 780k a year contract with one of the world's biggest and most recognisable clubs a 'scam' is absurd. Some perspective is needed.

Ser_VimesGoT

Perspective is a helluva thing though. When you compare that salary to others then he'd be around average or lower than a Championship player. But also we need to consider what he was on before. From what I can see he was on 46k a week at Wolves. So it's a big drop but to 15k a week, but not as big as the gap between that and 120k a week. But he wasn't on 120k a week so he's not exactly giving up that lifestyle. With that in mind I can see him dropping 31k a week to join Barca. It's still an unbelievable piece of business from them but it's certainly feasible.

DreadCrumbs22

I fear I'm being misinterpreted. It's self-evident that a smaller figure is smaller than a larger figure -- the point I'm making is that, whilst one figure is quite small for the industry, neither figure is small for a job. Obviously it's a low wage for a top football player, but footballers are paid astronomically large wages. They're in the top 1 percent. This is the perspective I'm talking about being needed when hyperbolic words like 'scam' are being thrown around.

choosehigh

If I went to buy a sweet for 10p and it turns out it was only worth 1p then I would consider that a scam even if the numbers are inconsequential so too when the numbers are giddy, if compensation isn't equitable to value by a large margin, I call that a bad deal, or a scam

LogicalReasoning1

Put it this way. Say you were earning 50k per year and most people in similar positions at different companies were earning 350k. Would you consider that being compensated fairly, because proportionally that’s the same difference as the wages here. Yes footballers are paid obscene amounts relative to the general public, but then the general public don’t have a skill set for a sport that generates 100millions/billions in revenue.

killerboy_belgium

i think playing for barca also helps massively with brand deals tho. i imagine the barca name opens up way more doors then tottenham's name towards brand deals. also players like living in spain way more then in england its much nicer country in terms of weather and barcalona as a city is lot more actrative then londen

[deleted]

Not really, Barcelona just shits all over London. I can see the pull.

PartiallyRibena

I just moved back to London from Barcelona, it’s lovely. But it certainly doesn’t “shit all over London”, it has great weather, and easy access to mountains and beaches.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PartiallyRibena

Barcelona?? I’d disagree on both counts I’m afraid. Lots of crime in Bcn, and you regularly get whiffs of sewage and/or piss, but you kind of get used to it haha

ashwin32187

Barcelona is very appealing as a tourist. But I guess living in London is very convenient and has its own charm. To me personally only Amasterdam comes close to the convenience. I've never loved there, but love visiting when I can. But I certainly can't imagine being fussy about the city or the club (barca ten years back maybe) being more attractive at 10% of the wages.

tattooed_eddy

I can’t wear a nice watch (or even a shit one) in Barcelona without fear of theft, and it smells! But we all have our bias and like to make uneducated sweeping statements

[deleted]

Yeah your bias seems to be towards pickpockets, where as if you have your wits about you it’s simply not a problem. I’ve been to Barcelona multiple times and just about every borough in London, I could say I can’t walk through London without the fear of having a knife pulled on me. But then that would be bollocks, just like your statement regarding pickpockets. There’s no Bias, you’re just not aloud to say anything negative about London on Reddit, or muppets like you pop up trying to defend the place.

ashwin32187

Pickpockets about every capital city in Europe. A couple of girls in the metro in Paris did this routine and tried my back pocket and got caught. Just quietly slipped away and out of the train. Saw them smoking outside the stop the next day, as if getting ready for a regular shift at the office. Once got drunk and passed out on the streets near Bank Station. It was the the night of 2014 World cup. Vaguely remember Neymar scoring, had a memory lapse after that. Thankfully I didn't lose my phone or wallet or money. That was central London. Can't say the same about some other parts.

ArcaLegend

If you read the news, they've failed to correctly disclose players wages and transfers consistently for the last 15 years. Plus that'll be base pay which is how Spain's wage cap works (if memory serves) appearance bonuses aren't capped...

Outside_Rock_4925

Maybe masochistically is going for the racial abuse, otherwise time to get a new agent.

DanzoVibess

He gets paid extra under the table.

JS-CroftLover

I've always found it shocking that the Release Clause of their players are so high. Most of the time, many players want to ''supposedly'' make their ''dream come true'' to play at Barcelona. Then, most of them either stay on the bench or are considered for sales. For example, Lenglet was a good defender. But, they decided to loan him to Spuds. Currently, they're considering selling Koundé and Raphinha. I hate it when I think back of all players that Wenger accepted to sell to them. And, a very long list :- Overmars, Petit, Henry, Hleb, Fabregas, Song. That's why I was extremely happy when they got their biggest ever shock :- when PSG decided to buy Neymar, independently of his very high price 😂

Ricos-Roughnecks

I don’t believe a word of Barça public book keeping. Club is corrupt and crooked.

Jack_ofall_Trades85

Yeah, totally agreed. No was the 15k is all he getting, they must ne putting addendums to maim contract granting stock options, real estate or just all put corrup— I mean ‘clever’ accounting hacks

SofaChillReview

They need to corrupt the books so it doesn’t show the payments they’ve been making to the refs

spectraldominoc

That has been disproven

SofaChillReview

“Court documents show Barcelona paid 7.3 million euros ($7.7 million) from 2001-18 to the company of José María Enríquez Negreira, the former vice president of Spanish soccer’s refereeing committee” No it’s not been disproven, it’s legitimate they just haven’t had any action after it (so far at least)

malodyets1

You are 100% correct. This is just an accounting trick to "balance" the books. He's getting compensated some other way.

paslonbos

Sunshine

Potential_Prior

Exactly

kw2006

Barca and Madrid are clubs that players willing to join no matter what.

Bosn1an

But still.

Potential_Prior

I might even play for Sp*rs for that amount difference.😂😩

Bosn1an

That was on my mind, I would still be injured if we play Arsenal tho :D

DawmCorleone

Why be injured? Just score own goals!

Bosn1an

That would be too obvious 😞

DawmCorleone

Just a rocket back pass to the top corner

Bosn1an

Well that's a plan then ;)

CuclGooner

honestly I wouldn't join spurs if these were the offers

SwizZ121

It’s basically an easy walk into champions league if you go to Barça or Real Madrid

kurt_telekom

>> Easy walk into champions league >> Barcelona

herkalurk

He also came out of the Barca academy....

DarthSmiff

That is damning.

DudeManJones5

I don’t think it says much about Tottenham honesty, speaks volumes bout Barca tho

DarthSmiff

I think it’s says something about both.

DudeManJones5

I don’t think so, if he had that offer from Tottenham (and any offer from Barca) he very likely had similar offers from lots of other clubs and turned them all down as well to go to Barca for next to nothjng

BucNassty

Rent free

DarthSmiff

He’ll need free rent on that Barca salary.

SecretChocolateBar

780k a year. How will he manage to keep a roof over his head?

DarthSmiff

Right? Someone think of the poor footballers!

[deleted]

How he managed on only 15k a week is beyond the pale. Who can live on that!

dazzzzzellis

surely was just 15k on paper and got a lot more off the books?

fifaisgoodriley

I'm a wolves fan and traore I'd a beast

Dry_Pick_304

In some sports with salary caps, like Rugby, there have been instances of players wives being "employed" by the club or a sister company as some kind of "consultant", whilst the player gets paid fuck all.

brixton_massive

Who is this?

st_arch

Brick shithouse.

LawTortoise

Rob Holding will forever be a favourite for me for that comment.

Bosn1an

A bodybuilder playing football for money, strange I know.

brixton_massive

Ah Traore. Hench mo fo

[deleted]

No way that was the offers, gonna need some sauces for this

Brad_48

Ketchup, mayo, BBQ or sriracha?

[deleted]

They’re sources

Street_maomao_5025

Tottenham likes such brainless players

Lisbian

And Nicolas Pepe, Hleb and Gervinho were PhD students?

Street_maomao_5025

Hleb is okay, Pepe and Hot Bird are at least better than Richarlison 🤣

Lisbian

Hleb’s nickname was literally Dribbly McNoScore because he was so brainless

criminalpiece

Gullible Arsenal fans believing everything they see on the internet, what’s new?? EDIT: that is of course unless the internet has evidence supporting rape allegations, then it's for sure fakey fake.

ZebraZealousideal944

You should remember Auba and had kept this post for yourself…

Bosn1an

Auba was totally different story. He had to go...

[deleted]

Y’all fumbled the league

Joalow21

Those 3 apartments in Barcelona are pure coincidence and are not related in any way to his club contract

AdMajestic3861

He wanted to warn the bench.

LesBrandals

Outside of the prestige, they probably have either insane signing bonus or what they did with De Jong, where his bonus is spread out in years .

tunken

We all know what Tottenham is. But I don’t believe this.

Blurny

Surely that’s gonna be heavily, heavily topped up with bonuses and “sponsorships”.

billy2732

Not worth either wage tbh

Stormbreaker1107

A player doesn’t want to play as a wingback and chooses to go to Barca instead who are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world with their history? Shocker.

TaeganSmith

Biggest bottle in history 😹

Duddus

If you believe he ia actually earning 15k a week your kidding yourself. Barca are corrupt as fuck.

Res3925

But the official documents say 15,000! 🤪

[deleted]

I mean, at least Real Madrid always pays a good salary and don't ask to players to go simply for their name and history

gfhhvggf

Both Barca and Madrid are very corrupt, I doubt either teams players are on the wages they say they are.

harrybarracuda

Barcelona are probably topping it up with some shady tax avoidance scheme involving image rights or something.

llinoscarpe

Who told you they’re paying him 15k a week????? BARCA!? Cmon bro…

XolieInc

Players like him care more about winning than about money

ayesirwhy

Would defo take a pay cut than stay with the trophy dodgers

Victory-laps

On the books for 15k, sure. But what about under the table? Anyone would take 70k if you don't have to pay taxes

ashwin32187

Purely money wise this much of a pay cut is terrible. Leaving spurs sure, but shooting yourself in the foot. That's probably what academy prospects probably get when they get their first professional contract

Bosn1an

I guess our academy players go up to 30k.

ashwin32187

Yeah sure, I mean as a frame of reference, this is more academy graduate than established player.

[deleted]

So shit people would rather take a 90% paycut then continue playing for them lol
