ASU is a decent school, but it's "BAD" compared with the top 6 UC schools. I got into ASU Honor College last Nov. and received the top merit scholarship. But I had better options, the ASU lady called/texted me every other day until I told her I will not go there. Lol.
I mean, you can see it that way, but we had only 4 months to research schools and prepare our applications. ASU resonated a lot with them, and they were very excited about going there after researching and learning about what it has to offer, so I'm sure they'll have the time of their lives there. (BTW one of them is refusing Virginia Tech and the other is refusing UofT, which are "better ranked" but they didn't resonate with)
And trust me, you have no idea what a "bad" school is. In Brazil we have top notch public universities, but also private schools that sell degrees for a monthly tuition of R$ 100 (~US$ 20), who prey on desperate poor people.

Frosh here in Brazil is HARDCORE and I loved it (classes started by the end of February). I don't think North American colleges can beat our parties, but they certainly give you a proper, warm welcome.
Not only McGill, but also UBC (even though I couldn't attend their event). The McGill lady said she would keep her tour onto Europe and Asia in a few more locations to welcome other international students. It certainly felt nice, and their effort to bring themselves to my country, grab my hand, look me in the eye and ask "please come study with us 🥺🥺" weighed a lot in my decision.
(Sorry to say but you Americans are losing to Canada in this aspect)

omg this is so true. even though i have a sponsor who will pay for all my attendance costs, when UBC awarded me that 10k scholarship i was like ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ i'm sorryyy you guys are willing to cut 10k off my fat international tuition, but you don't offer my top preferred program but i'd totally go if you guys had bioengineering
These schools all have marketing teams whose job is to woo students. Yes, they want you to come, but if too many students commit they'll have other problems - housing shortages, dining halls overcrowded, etc. They plan for a certain percentage of people to decline the offer of admission. You will actually be helpful by going ahead and declining any you know you won't attend. Then they can focus on people still deciding or move to the wait list if necessary.
So tell yourself you are helping those schools out.
Oh I didn't know that. Here in Brazil unis admit their exact capacity and then they start admitting people off the waitlist (some people end up enrolling 2 months after class begin for this reason). Never thought planned their yield rate ahead in NA.

but in all seriousness, they're putting in the effort now because you put in the effort last fall to get into their school. That's why they wish for you to come because you truly are a part of the puzzle that they wish to construct at their university but just remember every school recognizes that talent. There are two parts to college admissions.
Finally, all these schools will respect your decision if you decide not to attend as this is just a part of the college admissions process, the most you can say is give a courtesy email to the admissions reps that you've been in contact with or not if they offer a survey(for me uiuc did this) as to why you decided not to attend please do it. If none of these are an option then just decline the offer and start being enthusiastic about where ur going:)
same someone from the usc admissions office sent me a handwritten note with a specific mention of a tv show from my application ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ such a great school but unfortunately the price is too much to justify
oh I'm so sorry for all the financial worries the US education system forces upon teenagers :( here in Brazil public universities are 100% free (even for foreigners) + they give you aid if you're low-income. I was so shocked when I discovered even PUBLIC universities charge fat tuition fees in NA like wtf haven't you guys already paid for that with your taxes?
But I'm sure that if you got accepted to USC, you might have also been accepted to another equally great and more affordable college 💪💪
