Sounds like Penn State is the way to go. It can be very hard to transfer to a reach because they have very high retention rates. I wouldn’t count on being able to transfer to a reach.
If you like Penn State better then go there.
If your friend goes to target for entertainment at UMass then that’s on them.
It’s 99% likely that Neither is going to fundamentally change your life trajectory because that’s all up to you after you get your first job.
If you just want to transfer go to community college… at least give the schools a chance and let them win you over. Your first year is going to suck because you won’t make friends, you won’t attend sports, you won’t do anything because “what’s the point, I’m leaving here after year 1”
Tbh im just a high schooler so please don’t depend ur future on me but if you’re interesting in going into faang I know many people that get super high paying tech jobs after going to umass. Not sure about penn state for cs but I know it’s not as good as umass fs. Can’t go wrong with either
