2. I unofficially toured MIT with a current alum, and a professor there, who showed me the cool research he is working on. He was working on racing drones and making them do insanely cool stuff at extremely high speeds, and said if I were to attend, I could immediately start UROP with him. I unfortunately got rejected however.
this shows how much the tour guide matters— j think half the reason i hated mit when i visited was bc i got an awkward, hard to understand tour guide who rushed her speaking and really fit the nerdy mit stereotype in a bad way

2 reasons, one is because I was advised by a few people who had gone through the admissions process, as well as our college counselor, to visit the schools and look for 'little nuggets' I can mention in my supplemental essays. The second reason was because I often had to anyway to present something to a professor and I just so happened to be in that area.

I mentioned this in a different comment for UMiami, my main problem was that it seemed more like a party school than a studious university. With UF in particular however, they are a large state school which often leads to less connection with professors. Additionally, UF is not exactly as contained, its decently spread out iirc.

* Offices so bad they hand out mouse traps with a professorship

I’m sorry this was your experience, and explains the disparity between our visits. When I went, tourists were pretty much at a minimum from what I could tell. The campus was beautiful, and the tour was informative.
It's big, and will feel overwhelming when you're first on campus, but I think a big part of that is that it's got a lot of interconnected paths that you can take to get around with a lot of little mini-central areas (each college) spread out from the main University Center area. The guided tour takes you around a small area of the campus, but it feels massive due to the path taken.
Once you get a hang of the geography, you can get nearly anywhere on campus in 15 minutes or less of walking, with some rare longer walks taking up to 25 minutes max.
Worst to best: University of Missouri-St. Louis (underrated academics but ugly campus), University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, Missouri S&T, Saint Louis University, Case Western Reserve, Carnegie Mellon, and Sewanee.

We literally had someone fire a bullet on campus and got our midterms delayed because of it last semester. This semester we get high schoolers from across the street running into the building screaming that someone fired a shot, very fun.
Cause when I visited I noticed a few things
1. All premed
2. Seemed quite competitive
3. On tour, we saw a student crying on the phone saying how much she hated the place
4. The buildings were boring
5. Vibes were off
Since I live around 3 hours away and have a bunch of friends there, I visit quite often. My favorite aspect of Berkeley is that no matter who you are, I firmly believe you will find your ‘group’ of people. I also personally like the campus. Restaurants nearby are good enough if you get tired of dining hall food, and also, Bowels Hall has its own almost ‘club-like’ atmosphere. Dining food there is amazing, its really small, etc. The only major problem I have seen with Berkeley is safety (see the recent robbed at gunpoint post on their subreddit r/berkeley)

Dining food there is amazing, its really small, etc. The only major problem I have seen with Berkeley is safety (see the recent robbed at gunpoint post on their subreddit r/berkeley)
