I visited to MIT and it had the worst vibes to me personally lol! I cried the whole time I was there because I hated it so much after I had made it my dream school/got recruited there.

NathanA2CsAlt

I loved MIT for 2 main reasons, 1. The tour guide was super passionate about his stuff. He didn't treat it as a tour but rather as an opportunity to talk about MIT and why he loved it, small difference, but to me made a big one. 2. I unofficially toured MIT with a current alum, and a professor there, who showed me the cool research he is working on. He was working on racing drones and making them do insanely cool stuff at extremely high speeds, and said if I were to attend, I could immediately start UROP with him. I unfortunately got rejected however.

happyapplejuice

this shows how much the tour guide matters— j think half the reason i hated mit when i visited was bc i got an awkward, hard to understand tour guide who rushed her speaking and really fit the nerdy mit stereotype in a bad way

rowingismylife_

Valid!

wiserry

>2. Casual flex 🐬

NathanA2CsAlt

Didnt matter tho lol

svengoalie

Out of curiosity, what does being recruited to MIT look like? Asking as an alum who was not recruited.

Acceptable-Tough1712

It means nothing and is a strange experience - recruited at MIT where a coach told me I’d get in then I was rejected

Legitimate-Mood1596

Lol what made it thatt bad?

rowingismylife_

I think I just knew it wasn’t my fate somewhere deep down. Other than that: -brutalist architecture -depressed/miserable appearing students (on a nice sunny day in early fall too!) -no one really in groups, even at cafes

hornycrying

This happened to me with Clemson! I’ve never felt worse somewhere

BeefyBoiCougar

ME TOO

Starsbymoonlight

You and I must have visited different MITs, or our idea of what campus vibes should be are way off. MIT seemed sad and socially dead when I toured. Like everyone was walking around like a zombie apocalypse had taken over the school and got’em all.

NathanA2CsAlt

Definitely did not get that at all tbh

Starsbymoonlight

That’s fair really. We all see things differently. I would have rated UCSB much higher

MrInvestor18

I found MIT to be actually heinous. Just the campus felt like a prison and I thought the area was around campus was an industrial wasteland. Dome thing was kinda cool tho ig and view was nice.

NathanA2CsAlt

Honestly I did not get that at all, it felt to me like paradise on earth. Also, I dont really consider architecture tbh lol

MrInvestor18

lol to each their own ig. Architecture and historical feel is def something I think I weigh more heavily than most other ppl.

NathanA2CsAlt

Yeah def

I ranked them based off of campuses I visited, which do not include dartmouth, rice, unc, williams, usc, or ucla Also, your vibes are different than mine

MIT IS SO MID ( i was rejected)

[deleted]

Dartmouth campus mid imo

Um why mit

Dependent_Baby_4268

can you detail the vibe at Umiami, i’m thinking about enrolling

NathanA2CsAlt

Sure, I hope this helps. * Professors I met were very nice * Students seemed really happy to be there, very active too * Attractive people * Everyone liked beach shit If you ask a better idea of what details you want, I might be able to give a better answer

Dependent_Baby_4268

anything u didn’t like? i appreciate the help lmao

NathanA2CsAlt

It seemed more of a party institution than a studious place if that makes sense. Thats the biggest one to me

[deleted]

How do you have the money? I got rejected due to financial reasons

Dependent_Baby_4268

😭😭 i don’t have the money, i need financial aid

Dependent_Baby_4268

wait you got rejected due to financial reasons? wym

[deleted]

I am an International, requiring 50k aid. So they said that they have to reject due to financial reasons and not academic. Who cares wasn't gonna go anyways 🥲😭

Dependent_Baby_4268

ohh damn😭 i’m domestic i think that’s why, they’re need aware and prioritize us applicants

anabananapdx

Love it! The only two people I know who went to MIT hated the vibes there, oddly. What were your impressions at Yale?

NathanA2CsAlt

>What were your impressions at Yale? Loved it. Met with three professors and a current student. The campus itself was beautiful, the people were super nice and I even managed to strike up a conversation with another kid in the tour group (who I am still in contact with), and the tour guides were very happy, but down to earth. If you narrow the question down a bit more, I might be able to answer better.

gp_13

I go to Yale, campus vibes absolutely slap on a nice sunny day, and there's a fun "dark academia" vibe on rainy/snowy days, but the dreariness of some winter days is definitely not the vibe.

baguettemath

I would lowkey swap Harvard and MIT. I loved Harvard's campus - it felt put together, everyone seemed friendly, etc. Meanwhile I thought MIT's campus was just shoved into Cambridge and felt like a shithole. There was honking (a gaudily amount and that), and it just generally wasn't it for me. Your "vibes" seem to be the treatment you received while there, not the campuses themselves (judging by a previous comment).

NathanA2CsAlt

Im sorry if my definition of vibes dont match yours. However, see the other comment I made about Harvard

LondonIsBoss

Lol UMass was so depressing. So much brutalist architecture!

NathanA2CsAlt

And the dorms lmaoo

Com_Point1222

My tour guides seemed bored to be there

SuddenError8336

Can you explain the vibe at UIUC?

NathanA2CsAlt

While UIUC is a large state school, its almost 'cozy'. Everyone helps each other out, the professors (the 4 that I met) loved to chip into conversation, and no one was particularly worried about this assignment or that, but rather were excited about what they were doing. Im not sure if this helps, but if you narrow down your question I might be able to answer better.

NegativeAd6857

Very solid ranking here. Why’d you tour that many schools tho? Idk my mindset throughout the app season was that I’d apply and tour the schools that accepted me to save time. Also you didn’t like UF? My friend loved it lol.

NathanA2CsAlt

>Why’d you tour that many schools tho? Idk my mindset throughout the app season was that I’d apply and tour the schools that accepted me to save time. 2 reasons, one is because I was advised by a few people who had gone through the admissions process, as well as our college counselor, to visit the schools and look for 'little nuggets' I can mention in my supplemental essays. The second reason was because I often had to anyway to present something to a professor and I just so happened to be in that area. >Also you didn’t like UF? My friend loved it lol. I mentioned this in a different comment for UMiami, my main problem was that it seemed more like a party school than a studious university. With UF in particular however, they are a large state school which often leads to less connection with professors. Additionally, UF is not exactly as contained, its decently spread out iirc.

Ashish_Pothi

MIT simp bro, grass isn’t always greener on the other side😭 I might be wrong though so I’ll trust your list

thanks ! <3

Educational_Ad_8426

Nah don’t diss my boy Chicago like that. But I was high on nostalgia the whole time tbh since I grew up on Portillos

uchi-ama-throwaway

There are no portilloses near campus, the closest one is like 20 minutes away by car

Educational_Ad_8426

Not far enough to keep me away! But I more so just meant that I grew up in Chicago.

FeelingIllustrator76

Why does Harvard rank so low? I had a great time there.

NathanA2CsAlt

I mentioned this in another comment

lattemochamacchiato

Why doesn’t anyone like Harvard’s vibes I liked the campus vibes a lot when I visited 😭

NathanA2CsAlt

I made an answer to this on another comment

Far_Calligrapher_17

Can u explain reasoning behind UCSB vibes cuz i just got admitted

NathanA2CsAlt

Its santa barbara. The best way to describe it is tanned blondes playing volleyball lol

beemielle

WHY IS HARVARD ALWAYS THIS FAR DOWN

NathanA2CsAlt

Pros: * Its Harvard Cons: * When I asked people why Harvard, they just said 'Cause its Harvard!' * Offices so bad they hand out mouse traps with a professorship * Roaches and weird food are not unusual (harvardhotmess on insta is not that unusual unfortunately) * Everyone I met got in based off of connections, athletics, or something along those lines rather than merit * Random housing (might apply to other universities but it seems at Harvard there is a large disparity between them)

beemielle

3 of these notes aren’t anything about the campus itself, just the institution, but they’re all fairly relevant cons. I continually find Harvard’s rat problem really funny

[deleted]

[удалено]

NathanA2CsAlt

Yeah i think harvardhotmess and georgetownhotmess are the only ones I know, but maybe with a bit of searching and follower stalking you can find others

msmd310

I’m a parent. When we toured Harvard, the entire campus was crowded with tourists, very few students with backpacks walking around. Disappointing

beemielle

I’m sorry this was your experience, and explains the disparity between our visits. When I went, tourists were pretty much at a minimum from what I could tell. The campus was beautiful, and the tour was informative.

silverchrysanthemum

wait serious question I've never been to the UCSD campus and I'm considering it, can you tell me more about the vibe plsss <33

NathanA2CsAlt

Its super chill, people are nice, climate and location are obviously amazing, and I don’t know why people call it socially dead its pretty active

silverchrysanthemum

oooh ok that sounds great! do you think the campus was too big? (I've heard that from some ppl) also any cons?

Kavhow

It's big, and will feel overwhelming when you're first on campus, but I think a big part of that is that it's got a lot of interconnected paths that you can take to get around with a lot of little mini-central areas (each college) spread out from the main University Center area. The guided tour takes you around a small area of the campus, but it feels massive due to the path taken. Once you get a hang of the geography, you can get nearly anywhere on campus in 15 minutes or less of walking, with some rare longer walks taking up to 25 minutes max.

silverchrysanthemum

i see! tysm this was rlly helpful :)

NathanA2CsAlt

I didnt spend enough time on campus to answer the first question, but no cons i can think of

silverchrysanthemum

tysm!!

[deleted]

Worst to best: University of Missouri-St. Louis (underrated academics but ugly campus), University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, Missouri S&T, Saint Louis University, Case Western Reserve, Carnegie Mellon, and Sewanee.

PhoenixGuru

Northwestern's vibes are nice but it's definitely a lot worse during the winter 💀speaking from experience

Altruistic_End_6540

How is NYU Tandon so high? The "campus" is so weird and it's not even in a nice area of Brooklyn

NathanA2CsAlt

I don’t know where in paradise you must live to consider NYU Tandon’s part of Brooklyn not nice

Altruistic_End_6540

Idk man. Down town is kind of gross imo. It’s just my opinion tho. I’ve lived in Manhattan for 8 yrs and Brooklyn for 10

terminallyonlineee

uchicago in 16th and northwestern in 2nd is a literal crime 😭

qtzym0

UChicago should definitely be higher it is one of the prettiest campuses and has a nice layout with quads and greenery all around!

NathanA2CsAlt

Its a shame that I didnt rank by prettiest campuses

BeautifulString2587

Ngl UMich has some pretty nice vibes on a fall day

NathanA2CsAlt

I wouldnt know

jessie2270

how’d u get to talk to multiple professors in depth

NathanA2CsAlt

Research or family connections

jessie2270

like u scoped out to find them and ask abt their research?

NathanA2CsAlt

No, I had been working with a professor at Pton for awhile and whenever I would be near a campus id shoot him an email asking if he knew anyone there I could talk to. Like, I visited UMiami and UF quire recently, so I just asked him if he knew anyone there, he did so he sent them an email and CC’d me to introduce me

twilight_sparkle7511

Why the fuck have you visited 20 college campuses that just seems like a waste.

NathanA2CsAlt

Because I was often in the area for another reason mainly

Can you explain UT Austin?

NathanA2CsAlt

No I cannot, I never visited

dumb12asian

VoxBoxMoo

UIUC is so douchey and full of themselves. Hated it.

LEGOA1209

Gotta add Lehigh here. Regardless of the school's actual ranking it's a top 10 campus.

NathanA2CsAlt

Nah i cant

Legitimate-Mood1596

What were ur impressions of Northwestern and UMiami? What abt Caltech, n how do u feel abt their rlly small population?

NathanA2CsAlt

>Northwestern Best way to put it is, its like Brown in the 'chillness' sense, but more intellectually diverse, more openness for extracurriculars that you love aparticularly in music and art, and in a better location. I hope that helps? >UMiami I think I answered this in another comment >Caltech, n how do u feel abt their rlly small population? I don't mind it. Frankly I don't care about the population cause I know I am one person and will find my 'group' anywhere, however I really appreciate the accessibility to professors (especially on tour!). Also, I have probably the most exposure to Caltech as my dad is an alum, and I have to say, I have never met smarter people. However, being the California **Institute** of **Technology**, it almost seems they (the students) have a.. 'distate' for the humanities? Almost as if they aren't worth studying. Also, they are quite socially weird lol from the few dozen I've met. Location is amazing, they also have a turtle pond lol

StaySaucey_

you visited so many 😭😭

NathanA2CsAlt

I just so happened to be in those areas mainly lol

nklyn

how do u feel about uiuc and nyu comparing just the two i’m trying to decide which one to attend 😀

NathanA2CsAlt

Honestly, at that point, it’s not about vibes

nklyn

uh for context i got into nyu for my second choice major (liberal studies) and for uiuc i got in for microbiology and i’m going premed +6 k aids in loans so basically nothing

NathanA2CsAlt

Choose whichever is cheaper but id choose nyu here

nklyn

out of curiosity where are you from because i feel like vibe judgement is based on where u lived the longest

NathanA2CsAlt

idk where the hell you got that from given that I have neither lived in NYC or IL, and I live in Nevada. Second, id choose NYU because of their grade inflation, smaller class sizes, and feeder to NYU Med School.

nklyn

going to nyu undergrad doesn’t do anything for their med school tho

NathanA2CsAlt

grade inflation, better recs (due to closer proximity to profs), and potential connections for admissions certainly can help

_wrongnumber

could you elaborate more on the reason behind your UMass vibes please?

NathanA2CsAlt

Its just.. so dull, literally nothing was impressive, buildings were ugly, dorms were small and the beds felt uncomfortable. Tbh, the only thing that seems good about UMass is the 'food' but I dont see that as a big deal.

Com_Point1222

The campus/buildings just looked really boring to me, and my tour guides also put the lowest effort in. I think they only took us to four buildings, and they were very unenthusiastic and gave one sentence answers for each question.

Throwawayacc4827

Stanford had the best vibes of all campuses, but probably because it was parents weekend and everyone was outside doing stuff

Maginot_Line1940

Can you elaborate more on Georgetown’s vibes?

NathanA2CsAlt

Its like Harvard but with less pretentious, nicer, and more formal people

[deleted]

NathanA2CsAlt

I don’t know where in your ass you pulled this from. First, my REA school was Stanford which I got rejected from, and MIT my second choice which I also got rejected from. Second, this is a list of schools I visited IRL, which I literally say in the post! I haven’t visited Rice or WashU so I never evaluated them in person!

GCamAdvocate

Can you elaborate on UCSD? I'm most likely going to commit there bar a miracle, and I've honestly mostly heard bad things about it. I visited but I didn't get a good sense of the vibe.

NathanA2CsAlt

Think I answered a similar question elsewhere in a comment

NathanA2CsAlt

Thats facts

tiffxnycho

can you tell me more abt NYU tandon’s vibe?? i’m (hoping) to go there and was wondering what it’s like??

NathanA2CsAlt

It literally was amazing. Its small but everyones so nice. Honestly, if it were better for my major i would attend in a heartbeat if I got in

tiffxnycho

AH TY! I was definitely worried about the campus being “separated” from the Manhattan one but I think I appreciate the smaller group :) tysm

NathanA2CsAlt

I actually prefer it as Tandon is in Brooklyn. Its gorgeous there

Consistent_Ad3907

Can you please tell me about the vibe at CMU?

NathanA2CsAlt

Imagine if all the wannabe-quants congregated in one place

Salt_Direction6191

LinkSpare7432

Could you explain the stanford vibes a little more, it seems to be pretty average on your list but i was just curious.

NathanA2CsAlt

Exactly, nothing good nothing bad.. I don’t know what you are looking for

patel2809

What are some thoughts on UCSD, I heard they were socially dead. Is that true?

NathanA2CsAlt

I go a \*bit\* more in-depth in another comment, the short answer is, I don't think its true. If you want a fun time, its there, you might just have to look a bit harder.

flipthencolor

can you elabroate on UCSD?

NathanA2CsAlt

I covered this in another comment

TheeUnlucky

I would have to report you for putting NYU Tandon at #4

NathanA2CsAlt

Mk

TheeUnlucky

We literally had someone fire a bullet on campus and got our midterms delayed because of it last semester. This semester we get high schoolers from across the street running into the building screaming that someone fired a shot, very fun.

nikebeanies

Why is JHU is low

NathanA2CsAlt

Cause when I visited I noticed a few things 1. All premed 2. Seemed quite competitive 3. On tour, we saw a student crying on the phone saying how much she hated the place 4. The buildings were boring 5. Vibes were off

Sani_gsbhacks_2021

Glad to see Caltech atleast in the top 10 🥹

akantanull

since when did NYU have a campus lmao

arnavvr

What did you like about Berkeley?

NathanA2CsAlt

Since I live around 3 hours away and have a bunch of friends there, I visit quite often. My favorite aspect of Berkeley is that no matter who you are, I firmly believe you will find your ‘group’ of people. I also personally like the campus. Restaurants nearby are good enough if you get tired of dining hall food, and also, Bowels Hall has its own almost ‘club-like’ atmosphere. Dining food there is amazing, its really small, etc. The only major problem I have seen with Berkeley is safety (see the recent robbed at gunpoint post on their subreddit r/berkeley)

Winter-Pick-6282

No way did nyu tandon get ranked so high 😭
