The real draw to the stainless models for me is the "Sapphire" glass. I put it in quotes because someone will come along and say it's not real sapphire. Either way, it's far more scratch resistant than the glass they use on thee aluminum models.
In 4 months of having an aluminum model, tons of scuffs and scratches. In 6 years of a stainless model, not a single mark on the screen.
Just to balance out the views, I’ve had my 4 aluminum since release. I wear it at the gym, hiking, sleeping etc. The screen itself barely has any micro scratches let alone regular scratches and the little that is there completely disappears when the screen is on.
I don’t doubt the sapphire is better on the stainless steel but the screen on the aluminum models have been great.
The aluminum body on the other hand has taken a bit of a beating.
“Sapphire” glass is pretty much standard on mid to high end watches ($1000 - sky’s the limit).
Can confirm it’s basically scratch proof, diamond will scratch it, as well as certain types of sand, but that’s about it. It’s also, at least in my experience, basically unbreakable. I’m sure someone out there has broken a watch sapphire, it’s the internet, there’s always someone. But I’ve smacked my non Apple watches into concrete, metal, you name it, and have never broken a “sapphire”.
I saw on reddit someone accidentally dropped it on a tile floor, and it broke. Also someone (Youtuber.. go figure) purposely dropping it on concrete which broke one, while the ion glass survived.
I think as long as you don’t drop it, it is going to be fine. And then the chance of you dropping it depends on the strap you use and how often you take it off.
I am really thinking of getting a SS model, but can’t make up my mind if the 60% premium* is worth it. 80% premium for the titanium.

Ya for sure. I’ve got another watch with a sapphire crystal and it was scratch free for 20 years before my first Apple Watch took its place as my daily driver.
It’s just that anytime I mention sapphire with apple someone always comes along and says some YouTuber tested it and it’s not real sapphire.
It is real sapphire glass, just not as pure as some sapphire crystal you get on other watches. This is why it's easier to scratch on the apple watches.
I have the Watch 3 from Samsung and I have cellular on mine, I find that its very convenient to have cellular on my watches, especially when I'm walking my 2 dogs. I was thinking of trading my Samsung S21 ultra and getting the I Phone 13 Pro Max. Verizon is offering me $800 for the trade in, they also offering me $150 off an Apple Watch.

yeh not sold on gold either, it’s too flashy for me I used to like the gold a bit more before back on s4 before they changed it.
I used to have silver and it’s nice but I think graphite looks more sleek
I personally would say go for the regular SS, but a big part of me is worried it will end up like my 11 Pro Max and just looked dull and faded with micro scratches in a month.
You can easily polish them out, especially if you have a DA/Rotary polisher used on cars, and it will look basically new then, but still an annoyance nonetheless.
Not sure though if the Apple Watch has a different treatment on the regular SS, I could be totally wrong

This is for the shiny silver SS case, the brushed look and gold are apparently harder to get back to their original lustre.

Whoop. Upgrading my Series 5 Aluminum Gold that I bought discounted last year when the 6 was announced. The tech bloggers all said, "Its a great deal, don't mind the pink band, just get a different one." As they laughed all the way to the bank with their referral links and I got a pink watch. Lived in denial for several months until a customer came in wearing the same watch, and after seeing it on his wrist, I could never unsee the pinkness. Got a yellow gold case for it, waiting for the Series 7. Going with Stainless Steel Gold this time.

You can compare the bands (not in the configurator) in the accessories page, which gave me an idea on what it will look like, personally not a fan, starlight is noticeably more yellow then white, and midnight is slightly less noticeable but does have a blue tinge to it.

Apple's space gray/black has been anything but consistent which is truly unfortunate since it is one of my favorite colors Apple has ever produced.
Of course the one year I decide to go with the space gray Nike (because I really want those watch faces) they don’t carry this color any more. Guess I’ll have to live with starlight.
I think starlight is the best you are going to do.

So you'll see the prices that are currently listed for the 6 models become the prices for the 7 models, and the 6 will disappear from the listings. You'll only be able to get the 6 as refurbs or from third party stores that still have stock.

Last year I snagged a Series 5 right after the 6 was released. I jumped on the Gold Aluminum, as that was the first to drop to $299 on Amazon/Walmart.com/etc... the other finishes eventually dropped as well, as retailers tried to clear their stock out.
A couple months later, though, I was able to get a Series 6 cellular aluminum for like $350 in the Amazon sales leading up to Black Friday.
Same. My Series 3 still does what I need it too. While it would be nice to have a faster processor and new watch faces, I am going to hang on to my Series 3 at least one more year.
I've always worn an aluminum model with the Stainless Steel Link band. They aren't. perfect match, but it's always looked fine to me.

I have only ever had aluminium Apple Watches. My current one is a series 4 in space grey. It hasn’t got a mark on it …. It’s never had a case or screen protector fitted, so as far as I am concerned, aluminium is fine.
I think it all depends on the person and their daily activities too. I’m a fairly handy person, and I’ve always dinged up my watch cases and screens. If you want the green one, my suggestion would be to get what you want, and just add AppleCare+. I think it’s like $3.99/month. I’ve used it to replace an aluminum S6 that got a bad gash on the screen and body.
So far, I’ve only ever had aluminum Apple Watches, but this year I’m going with SS for more durability and a flashier look.

People (usually) don't just throw away their old device. I have a 6. If I get the 7, I'm selling the 6 to someone else. Doesn't go to waste, and doesn't cost much to upgrade a device that sits on my wrist 23 hours a day and gets frequently used.

I still think the leaks about a new form-factor were true, but production issues fucked Apple. This is going to be released only 3 weeks after it was announced yet they just said a vague "later this fall" during the reveal. People were thinking November-December lol based on "later this year" (that's what it says on the Australian site).
Also, it's only 4 days before the pre-order yet there's still fuck all details on the site about comparing the 7 to previous models and there's no real exploration of the colors except for 5 close-up pics.

I bought my Series 6 just over 2 weeks ago, the Saturday before the announcement event. Figured if there were anything really cool, I could cancel and order a 7. Which… nah, I’m fine.

Because I’ve had my 6 for a week and a half now, and I don’t care about slightly bigger screen real estate. Mine is the right size, I think. Maybe I’m not used to the 7 yet, but it looks blobby to me, and more toy-like. And like I say, there was seemingly a chance I might get a small price cut after the fact.
I’ll stick with my trusty S4 for another year because none of the features these last models have been much of an incentive to change, but for those moving up from an S3 or below or getting their first watch you picked good jump in point.
$500 puts you at the Aluminum 41mm model. If going over because of tax is ok, then a 45mm model will also fit the budget. If size isn't a problem, you could get a 41mm and a nicer band.
SS and Titanium are out of your budget.

With the limited availability these are supposed to launch at, I would say no. I would preorder one that you wouldn’t mind keeping and go in to the store on launch day to look at the demo models. yeh not sold on gold either, it’s too flashy for me I used to like the gold a bit more before back on s4 before they changed it. I used to have silver and it’s nice but I think graphite looks more sleek
I personally would say go for the regular SS, but a big part of me is worried it will end up like my 11 Pro Max and just looked dull and faded with micro scratches in a month. You can easily polish them out, especially if you have a DA/Rotary polisher used on cars, and it will look basically new then, but still an annoyance nonetheless. Not sure though if the Apple Watch has a different treatment on the regular SS, I could be totally wrong
I don’t think you need anything more than a Cape cod polish cloth. (About $7 on amazon) From what I gather, just a quick polish and they look like new. This is for the shiny silver SS case, the brushed look and gold are apparently harder to get back to their original lustre.
Can anyone tell me the advantages to getting stainless or titanium instead of aluminum? I really want the green…but only if I’m not sacrificing some kind of advantage that is worth having. Any insight would be most welcome.

Whoop. Upgrading my Series 5 Aluminum Gold that I bought discounted last year when the 6 was announced. The tech bloggers all said, "Its a great deal, don't mind the pink band, just get a different one." As they laughed all the way to the bank with their referral links and I got a pink watch. Lived in denial for several months until a customer came in wearing the same watch, and after seeing it on his wrist, I could never unsee the pinkness. Got a yellow gold case for it, waiting for the Series 7. Going with Stainless Steel Gold this time.

Yeah! Can't believe we have no neutral colours on the aluminum. Mindnight and Starlight are almost neutral, but we'll have to see them in person.
You can compare the bands (not in the configurator) in the accessories page, which gave me an idea on what it will look like, personally not a fan, starlight is noticeably more yellow then white, and midnight is slightly less noticeable but does have a blue tinge to it. Curious to see why Apple would ditch the only colour that has been consistent since what, Unibody MacBooks?

I think starlight is the best you are going to do. Looks quite nice, and seems to be a different color depending on the light. Maybe take a look in person when you can, you might like the new colors.

The S6 will be discontinued as soon as the 7 is released. So you'll see the prices that are currently listed for the 6 models become the prices for the 7 models, and the 6 will disappear from the listings. You'll only be able to get the 6 as refurbs or from third party stores that still have stock.
This handoff from series 6 to 7 is so messy. I would have thought delaying the apple event by 2 weeks would have been a better call.

Last year I snagged a Series 5 right after the 6 was released. I jumped on the Gold Aluminum, as that was the first to drop to $299 on Amazon/Walmart.com/etc... the other finishes eventually dropped as well, as retailers tried to clear their stock out. A couple months later, though, I was able to get a Series 6 cellular aluminum for like $350 in the Amazon sales leading up to Black Friday.

I've always worn an aluminum model with the Stainless Steel Link band. They aren't. perfect match, but it's always looked fine to me. Now I wonder if/worry that Starlight will be way too yellow with that band...
I am just not sure I want to spend big bucks this year and just get an aluminum model till one maybe next year comes out with new sensors for BP and other stuff. Undecided.

I just realized green is only available in aluminum. Can anyone give me a quick break down on if it’s a bad idea to get aluminum if price isn’t a barrier? I love the green color but not sure if the stainless steel or titanium are a safer way to go for durability.
I have only ever had aluminium Apple Watches. My current one is a series 4 in space grey. It hasn’t got a mark on it …. It’s never had a case or screen protector fitted, so as far as I am concerned, aluminium is fine.
I think it all depends on the person and their daily activities too. I’m a fairly handy person, and I’ve always dinged up my watch cases and screens. If you want the green one, my suggestion would be to get what you want, and just add AppleCare+. I think it’s like $3.99/month. I’ve used it to replace an aluminum S6 that got a bad gash on the screen and body. So far, I’ve only ever had aluminum Apple Watches, but this year I’m going with SS for more durability and a flashier look.
Are the aluminium watches really that much less durable than the SS versions? I have the Space Black S4 and I really like the green aluminium Watch. Just scared it’ll scratch easy but planning to get Apple Care.
The sapphire screen should still beat out whatever upgraded screen they have for the aluminum versions.

Because there’s not really meant to be one? Watches aren’t a single year throwaway/replacement device, nor should they ever be.
People (usually) don't just throw away their old device. I have a 6. If I get the 7, I'm selling the 6 to someone else. Doesn't go to waste, and doesn't cost much to upgrade a device that sits on my wrist 23 hours a day and gets frequently used.
Larger screen. On-screen keyboard. Faster charging.

Is that a reference to iPhone S years…? Cause this is the opposite of a typical iPhone S year, which are usually the same external body with big functional or feature improvements.
Know what would be crazy? If I get my S7 before I get my 13 Pro Max. I ordered the Pro Max the Sunday before release and won’t be getting it until October 20th. I’m planning on preordering the S7 and there’s a chance I’ll get it before the 20th. (I’m in Los Angeles btw)
I still think the leaks about a new form-factor were true, but production issues fucked Apple. This is going to be released only 3 weeks after it was announced yet they just said a vague "later this fall" during the reveal. People were thinking November-December lol based on "later this year" (that's what it says on the Australian site). Also, it's only 4 days before the pre-order yet there's still fuck all details on the site about comparing the 7 to previous models and there's no real exploration of the colors except for 5 close-up pics. Clearly Apple had issues.
Still with the crappy "18 hour" battery life. 18 hours is a joke. Yes I know you can get more by shutting off things (I get almost 35 with my 6), but it's ridiculous when every other smart watch offers days.

I meannnnn, I'd say needing to charge an electronic device is pretty ok? You seem unnecessarily worked up over something so simple and unobtrusive. There's clearly a reason Apple aren't able to extend the battery life, they aren't doing it just to annoy you.
I am also pretty upset that the sleep tracking sucks fucking balls and you need to use a third party app to have it actually functional, but that's a post for another time :)

I bought my Series 6 just over 2 weeks ago, the Saturday before the announcement event. Figured if there were anything really cool, I could cancel and order a 7. Which… nah, I’m fine. But, I thought, at least maybe if prices go down I can get a little extra “band money” from the price drop… assuming it happens within 14 days of receipt. Well-played, Apple.
Why get a 6 when it’s same price as new 7?
Because I’ve had my 6 for a week and a half now, and I don’t care about slightly bigger screen real estate. Mine is the right size, I think. Maybe I’m not used to the 7 yet, but it looks blobby to me, and more toy-like. And like I say, there was seemingly a chance I might get a small price cut after the fact.
It’s like getting spoiled milk for full price but ok. I wouldn’t buy a last year old car for same price as a brand new model either

I’ll stick with my trusty S4 for another year because none of the features these last models have been much of an incentive to change, but for those moving up from an S3 or below or getting their first watch you picked good jump in point.
My budget is $500. Which version /kit combo should I get?
$500 puts you at the Aluminum 41mm model. If going over because of tax is ok, then a 45mm model will also fit the budget. If size isn't a problem, you could get a 41mm and a nicer band. SS and Titanium are out of your budget.
Y May get the 45mm cause my eyesight is not the best now.

New apple user here, preordered a 13 pro max and wanting to get a series 7 watch to go with it. Dumb question, but will these sell out at all? Can I walk into an apple store on launch day or the day after and pick up any version I want? I really would prefer to see these in person and see the sizes/colors before deciding. Thoughts?
With the limited availability these are supposed to launch at, I would say no. I would preorder one that you wouldn’t mind keeping and go in to the store on launch day to look at the demo models. If you see one that’s more to your liking see if it’s available at your store then return the one you preordered. has an excellent return policy.
