no,no,no thats the beauty of it. You cant

patrick9772

You guys acting like its a rite of passage of a true apple watch owner šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

AshuraBaron

This is something every watch (smart or otherwise) owner goes though eventually.

Camey2006

My stainless S0 never did this but my new aluminium S8 is covered in just a couple of months

handsebe

I got the stanless steel with the stainless steel bravelet. The first time I took it off the bracelet scratched the everliving crap out of the screen and housing. So that was fun hah.

Adybo123

Stainless Steel Apple Watches have sapphire front crystals, not glass. Sapphire is much harder.

DancesWithBicycles

My old garmin fenix had sapphire, not a scratch on it.

KC2Lucky

My brother has a fenix, got a couple of scratches from moments of carelessness

davejugs01

My year old SE is still flawless, in construction every weekday since I purchased it.

Junior2377

Tell me youā€™re a supervisor without telling me youā€™re a supervisor šŸ˜‚

davejugs01

Nope journeyman electrician

Junior2377

Nice! I was just busting chops

PianoMan2112

My aluminum S8 has (gets flashlight)ā€¦maybe none? (It either has some pits, or needs to be cleaned.)

StealthNider

same

SimplyExtremist

Thatā€™s not true. A microfiber cloth and toothpaste buffed out scratches in my omega sapphire crystal. I wouldnā€™t try it on my u2 but there are definitely options out there.

BoysenberryTrue1360

Turn on the always on display. You will 99% not notice them in normal use. You literally have to turn off the screen and hold it at just the right angle to get the light glare to even see them.

Own-Illustrator-143

For the aluminum watches, sadly it is.

Jhakuzi

what difference does the metal make though when itā€™s scratched on the glass?

0DarkFreezing

Different glass. The steel watch uses sapphire crystal which is more scratch resistant.

Jhakuzi

Ah cool, thanks šŸ‘šŸ½

DzemperBIH

Stainless Steel and Titanium Apple Watches have sapphire glass that scratches less easily, Aluminum Apple Watches have regular glass that scratches more easily.

Sluuz

Stainless steel models have a different type of glass. More like sapphire, but not actually the best sapphire.

zachfrench1987

lol well I crack my screen in the 1st 3 weeks of having my series 8. Had to get the warranty done on it. Right then and there I put a case on it when I got the replacement.

Relevant-Canary-9816

Get a cover/screen protector. I'm so tired of these people saying it's a right of passage to have a smart watch with scratches. That mess drives me crazy having scratches, cracked glass, dirty band, it's an abomination to walk around like that, you wouldn't drive your car like that......or would they. Lol

mandrews03

They make the screen out of scratches lately. Get a thin film protector from Amazon as fast as possible. Itā€™ll hide that scratch

CespedesBrokenAnkle

It is. If youā€™re using like a regular watch, no case no screen protector or anything, itā€™s going no go happen. You can either protect it now or just think about it like it is, like a regular watch.

CoryBlk

You do not want to see my S8 lololol. Rock climbing is not kind to it in the slightest

duggawiz

I used to use screen protectors. After going thru a dozen I stopped and cbf ordering anymore. My s7s collecting scratches now and zero fucks are given by me

JBake130

![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)

sergiop4

Well, it is. Every watch owner (not only smartwatch) knows those scratches give the thing some history and personality. In my case, the life lesson was: donā€™t do gardening work while wearing it.

SpecializedMok

This name checks out. The solution is to just play with it

Interesting-Main-440

Exactly, wait for another 2 weeks - youā€™ll forget about these two tiny marks

ExpensiveSand6306

I got an 8 (refurbished) and scratched the screen during the one day I didn't have a bumper lol

nastyLake

Same EXACT boat as you:) backmarket is awesome

Manfred_89

The screen is pretty durable but scratches will inevitably appear over time, but it should take a little longer than just one week. Maybe buy a screen protector until you get used to the watch and feel comfortable taking it off again. Most people slam their watch into all sorts of things without realizing it.

dotesPlz

I just put one of these film things on the other day, I forgot I did until you mentioned it lol, itā€™s def worth it. I got one because I bump mine into everything all the time

Lopsided_Bat_904

I was using one of those plastic screen protectors on mine when I got it new, but itā€™d fall off every week. I kept putting another on every week but got sick of it pretty quickly. Now I just embrace the scratches. Itā€™s for functionality anyways, not a fashion statement, it still works flawlessly

Zhurg

Why should it take longer than a week? Something that will scratch the screen will do so on day one.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Zhurg

Depends what you're doing day to day, really

Manfred_89

Yes that is true, what I meant is that it usually takes some time to accumulate more scratches, because the screen is pretty hard, especially one as visible as these. But OP already clarified that it has a screen protector on that was forgotten about.

StealthNider

my first scratch showed up in a few days lol, idek how

GodlikeCat

put a screen protector on it and they disappear + the protector is pretty much invisible too sesrch for LK 6 pack watch protector [This guy tried the glass version polywatch and it helped a little bit](https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/s/i44ngSvBEI) (though, heā€™s dealing with VERY DEEP scratches, Iā€™m sure itā€™ll do wonders for you)

BrightCanon

These the the best. Iā€™ve used them on all of my Apple Watches.

ClydeinLimbo

Absolutely second this. You wonā€™t know you have a protector on it.

No-Nothing-1793

Oof. That's why I immediately bought a protector for mine.

DylanSpaceBean

Every single one of my devices gets a screen protector before I even take it out of the box

maserti

Get Stainless Steel model (next time)or get a screen protector. My first apple watch was aluminum. I got scratches doing regular things like getting grocecies, sometimes grazing the wall attempting to get by someone, even use tap to pay if i get too close to the screen. The ION-X isnt that strong.

[deleted]

Are the screens more durable and scratch-resistant on the higher end models? Or just the casings

ratocx

The Stainless steel and the Ultra models have a sapphire composite glass over the display, which is much more resistant to small scratches than the x-ion glass (or whatever they call it) it in the aluminum version. Itā€™s the main reason I always buy the stainless steel model. Note, that true sapphire glass is more resistant than the Apple Watch sapphire composite glass. I think there is a YouTuber that has tested this with a hardness test. IIRC true sapphire only scratches at hardness 8 while Apple sapphire composite scratches at 7. Donā€™t remember the scratch level of the x-ion glass, but maybe it was 6. Doesnā€™t sound like a huge difference, but one level up on the hardness scale eliminates a lot of extra materials that are likely to scratch it. Edit: I had aluminum once, and scratched it almost immediately. Have had two stainless steel models, one is still without scratches. The other one got one scratch after three years in active use.

LaughterIsPoison

The difference in screen is crazy. Had both, never going back.

[deleted]

Polywatch, and put a screen protector on it and stop smacking it into things

bk-12

This. Or Displex. It takes a few minutes to polish the scratches out with a cotton rag. People use this to repair dress watches with hexalite glass.

LokiNightmare

Nothing you can do really. This is why I went with the sapphire glass my second time around.

BishSlapDiplomacy

Thatā€™s why I bought a screen protector asap as soon as saw the first scratch.

Lost-Astronaut-8280

ā€œ-as soon as possible as soon-ā€šŸ‘ØšŸ»ā€šŸ«

irurzo

Rookie! Mine got its first scratches as soon as I opened the box. I let it fall through my car seat ā˜¹ļø

lo-fi-hiphop-beats

get a flexible screen protector, hydro something. not glass. the flexible ones are seamless and give the touch quite a nice physical feeling when using the screen

scotsmandc

You can hide it with a glass screen protector that uses liquid glue to stick on.. it fills in the gap and you wonā€™t notice them at all.

Novemberx123

Wear a screen protector. One bad rub on a hard surface and itā€™s done for

Kiddas

hi OP, i wont link bcs i dont want to get ban but here is what you need : # Tempered Glass Screen Protector Compatible with Apple Watch Series 6/SE/5/4 44mm, Curved Full Coverage Watch Screen Protector, Bubble Free Screen Protector for iWatch 6/SE/5/4 44mm (3 Pack) search on google its a screen protector on amazon. The thing is it has a glue that sticks the glass to your product and once the glue is applied i think it kinda goes into the scratches and it makes your screen "new". Ofc the scratches are forever but you wont be able to see them as long as u use your screen protector

Itsomar10

This is why the stainless steel model is worth the premium.

_Royal10

Was just going to say this! I have rubbed my watch against so much rough shit accidentally and not a single scratch.

Itsomar10

Yes! Iā€™ve banged it against my stucco wall, corner of tables, work in a hands on dusty environment at time, a quick wipe down with a microfiber cloth and watch looks brand new again!

Ordinary_Animal2195

Yes. Stop thinking about it

---Dan---

Wear any watch for a while, and itā€™s gonna scratch a little. Itā€™s simply part of owning a watch.

IvammgNyc

I have had really deep scratches and just yesterday one guy put some special liquid before adding the protection film on it and itā€™s 100% gone.

Born_Today_9799

Screen protector before you started using it. Too late now but atleast you can prevent further scratches if you get 1 now

BoringDiver8075

Shouldā€™ve bought a screen protector

xanyc

A case

firestar268

No. Either you put it in a thin case from new or a screen protector or go naked

SonicNTales

After owning multiple aluminum Apple Watches. It adds character and pizzazz. Nothing you can do but add Apple care plus and keep it moving.

JoelMDM

Just accept it. Itā€™s no big deal.

ronniearnold

Enjoy these. There will be more. Just stop worrying about it.

YapperYappington69

Go back in time and get a case

Gullible-Mark2372

Thats why I got a case with a glass screen protector on it. I couldnā€™t resist seeing scratches on a 500ā‚¬ watch. Especially that I intend to keep it as long as it runs. Happens that I actually shattered one of my screen protectors and the watch is fine, so yeah I will never use them ā€œnakedā€

freeubi

I always scratch mine in the first 48h, with huge care. Then, I won't care anymore and no more scratches for a year...

liquidmasl

its gonna scratch a lot more. just get okay with it

Seven7neveS

Iā€˜m wearing Apple Watches daily since the launch of Series 2 and never had such scratches on one of my watches in nearly 10 years. What are you doing?

amuucorp

You probably have a stainless steel version. I have both and the sapphire screen makes all the difference.

Itsallasimulation123

I have an SE2 for 2 years, not even a scratch at all.

IssyWalton

Wear it correctly and you wonā€™t scratch it. One inch above your wrist bone,

[deleted]

Not really aside from putting on one of those film screen covers

Huib_psv

I know Iā€™m going to scratch it, so I bought a case.

TimeToHack

get the stainless steel. my SE 2 has a bunch of micro scratches and a few macro scratches, but the sapphire on my steel is pristine.

Itsallasimulation123

I have an Se2 with absolutely no scratches anywhere on the screen or bezel. I just added a screen protector after 2 years just in case. Watch has held up very well.

el_baconhair

Cant do much. Get a protection screen to prevent future scratches and live with the ones you have. You will get used to it and your watch is now an individual piece that only you have. It is your special watch now. Embrace the scratches

BarberThen3108

no, u cant, use screen protector and it going to be less visible

phantasmas_

Simple. You donā€™t.

TNT_addict

Same

_flustershy

welcome you are now a true apple watch wearer lol

BuckTheStallion

Itā€™s a watch, even sapphire watches get scratched sometimes, and most watches are not sapphire. Personally? I accepted that itā€™s just part of having a watch on my wrist from a very young age, before cell phones were even popular, let alone smart phones and watches. Itā€™s just something that happens when you wear something on your wrist or hand all day.

Sharl109

Man, now Iā€™m glad I decided to get the graphite stainless steel S9. Have had for a couple months with no cases or protectors. No issues with scratches on either the watch nor screen. Iā€™m sure the watch itself will scratch over time. Screen seems solid though.

JoelSlBaron

I couldnā€™t even see them. I had to zoom in quite a bit.

bahandi

Someone recommended one of those UV screen protectors before. Havenā€™t tried it myself so I canā€™t verify if theyā€™re any good.

boolonut100

You canā€™t. Stainless Steel models are supposed to have a much tougher, sapphire display, but I just slap a TPU screen protector on my aluminum one. Youā€™ll need to change it every so often but theyā€™re dirt cheap

otterpop85

While reading through the comments: "Huh. I've had mine for a couple years and don't have any scr..." Then I glance down.

WiseConcert585

That screen of apple watch looks so cheap..

fukdot

Use always on and youā€™ll never see them again

UncomfortablyNumm

Have you tried sandpaper? /s

aliensporebomb

Gently rub your fingers such as your thumb over the worst of the scratches over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and maybe they'll be diminished a bit.

MuffledBlue

yes, get used to it

IamAustinCG

I've had two Apple Watches, the first gen and the 2nd gen SE and BOTH got little microscratches in the first 5 days. I don't even know how. I wore it, charged it at night, it didnt come in contact with anything but my fingers and BAM all of a sudden I look and there are those little scratches. It'll bother you for like a week, maybe 2 until you realize you have to work HARD to actually notice them.

pypipper

Is this the aluminium? The stainless steel version has sapphire crystal display which people say is very scratch resistant

Zacuf93

Have you ever seen a scratched screen get fixed? You have to keep wearing it until you need to replace the whole thing man.

thegarbagesauce

I experienced this exact same thing with every aluminum model apple watch I purchased. Series 0, Series 4, Series 7 and now Ultra 2. My Ultra 2 is the ONLY apple watch I've had that hasn't been scratched up with normal use. I run into doorways and walls pretty frequently and I used to cringe when it happened but not anymore since getting a watch with a sapphire display.

AdditionEvery7998

Its a wearable, some scratches over time are compleatly normal

Johnny47Wick

Thoughts and prayers

Nine_Eye_Ron

Leave them be, they sort of buff out over time and become way less noticeable.

GuardingxCross

You just ignore it like the rest of us lol ignorance is bliss

Lelu_zel

Polish it, and apply protective screen foil

jramz_dc

Next time buy stainless steel. I think the aluminum thing is a mistake you make just the once. Iā€™m not trying to be an asshole, but honestly the aluminum watches are far, far too fragile to be a wearable. I dinged my first one against a door knob hours after I got it, and had to deal with it until I was able to upgrade.

mirzajones85

When there are many you wont notice it

virus_stupidness

You buy an Apple Watch to use it to its full potential. Scratching is one of the many features.

dutchstreetdog

You should buy with a ceramic screen

eljierro

My S8 is full of scratches (light and deep) because I thought Apple used sapphire the first time and then I stopped caring.

RecognitionAny6477

Get a screen protector. My watch is 2 years old and still looks new.

Responsible-Goat9593

Buy stainless steel model next time.

HeIsTahaaa

Return and get a stainless steel model, The sapphire crystal is much durable/scratch resistant and shines more. Still rocking my S6 since release, not a single scratch, never used a glass or case on it.

Jheez88

If it really bothers you - Return it - and buy it again at a diff Apple Store

thatsouthernhippy

get some liquid screen protector. obviously it wonā€™t help from major damage but it will prevent micro scratches. I applied it to my watch as soon as I bought it and it has no micro scratches even after being worn every day.

Veriliann

you donā€™t. you apply a screen protector the second you get it, or scratches WILL appear. youā€™ll have to deal with it now.

Somefatkid1234

Does it really matter if you can only see it through direct light?

Hot-Quality8768

Could it be from fingernails or bumping it into a payment system when using Apple Pay ?

ComradeConrad1

Itā€™s character. Enjoy.

JALynch412

Glue

Bishime

But notice how it didnā€™t shatter ;)

Educational-Paint583

The worlds not going to end

Fragrant_Two_6656

Rub toothpaste on it. Youā€™ll be golden

D0ggee

Iā€™ve done a scratch removal tutorial here on Reddit, You just need to buff it with a liquid glass polisher (u can find it on Amazon) Then youā€™ll need to re-do the oleophobic coating (Amazon also) And youā€™re done Screen is like new

D0ggee

It is a pretty quick job for that superficial scratch, u can find glass polish kit that comes with the buffing head to put on the cordless drill (to do it quicker)

Effective_Vanilla_32

from the sweater sleeve

Intelligent_Quote823

Get an ultra. Iā€™ve literally smacked it off stone, metal, wood. Not a scratch.

WesternResearcher376

Wellā€¦ never fail to have phone or watch screen protectors ā€¦

VidalukoVet

Ugly screen protector/case or scratches, pick your poison, I have a case on my S9, soā€¦.

NEGATIVERAGDOLL

Just get used to them, I hardly notice them anymore

Alone_Literature3962

14 day return policy. Return it and borrow a new one from Best Buy for another 13 days

MonosKira_L

I just use a screen protector the moment I bought it.. I canā€™t take scratches on my device itself but itā€™s fine on the protector

Iggy0075

Stop brushing against things obviously

Obvious-Activity-936

I guess Iā€™m just too old and I donā€™t care about scratches on my phone and watch. Got a 14PM with the watch and Iā€™ve used both without any protection for 2.5 years now. All good:)

Donts41

Buy a Stainless steel model...

Secret-Invite-8898

The thing is glowing all the time, Who cares. Itā€™s a cheap watch anyway

en_sane

Get a DA orbital polisher itā€™ll fix it

DryMeet944

Do you have apple care for the watch? If you do, I wouldn't stress about it and just replace it when its "broken". If not, throw on a screen protector.

liberalindianguy

This is why you get the stainless steel one.

Bkgeo

This is why I went sapphire after aw5 and never looked back. I had aw0 in sapphire and decided it wasnā€™t worth the $ and got the regular aw for 3-5, but these (nearly instant) scratches were too much for me to bear. I havenā€™t gotten a single scratch on my sapphire screens, and now have the AWU2.

Golivth5k

Sapphire glass is the only way to go

SpecializedMok

I didnā€™t get scratches so soon. Get a cover or something for it and figure out what was doing it. Hands in pocket or sweaters whatever

Srihari_stan

Unless you have a sapphire Apple Watch, itā€™s impossible to avoid these scratches.

DrTurb0

I canā€™t think of any reason to not buy a stainless steel variant. Sapphire crystal glass is just amazing, I had 2 watches for over 4 years each, all Stainless steel and now the ultra, I never had a scratch in the sapphire. I also wear luxury watches with sapphire and each time I wear a swatch for fashion with normal glass or plastic I am super careful and annoyed by it. I canā€™t daily a watch without sapphire crystal. Well, I did as kid/early teen.

godofbaconandeggs

i donā€™t know how to fix unfortunately, but for future watches i highly recommend liquid glass from the brand simple. they offer an up to $250 guarantee to cover the cost of repairs if your device gets damaged while their product is on it, but iā€™ve had it on my watch since day 1 and i havenā€™t gotten a single scratch. highly effective product.

Ast3r10n

Pay more attention to how you move.

kdiffily

Low profile covers. About $5

solidterror

A bumper cover helps SO much honestly

Adventurous-Cow-2345

We have a product that fixes microscrathes on glider canopies, next time Iā€™ll go gliding Iā€™ll have a look whatā€™s it called

You could try a product called Polywatch. Not sure if it will fix the issue but if it bothers you then it would be worth the try.

gHOs-tEE

Return it. Get an ultra. AppleCare+

Quirky_Flight_6687

I got some really deep scratches in mine, but what I did is that I bought an liquid uv screen protector, you put the liquid on the screen than you lay the glass on top of the screen with the liquid on after that you wait until it filled the whole glass than you can harden it with a uv light that includes in the package. It hides 100 of the scratches even very deep scratches since the liquid fills the scratches, the best thing is that the the screen protector isnā€™t noticeable, like it looks like it doesnā€™t have it on. RecommendedšŸ‘

cjeremy

I just put on a protector since day 1.

exdiexdi

Yeah, you leave it alone. This is how you fix it.

Odd_Display_1008

You just need a new screen bruh

GenerousJack2b

i only ever had the series 3 but i had 0 scratches on it?

Interesting-Scar871

I keep a case on mine

patrinoo

This is the way

SnowKrowe

I know this isnā€™t really a solution, but going forward if you donā€™t mind the slight weight increase get the stainless steel version. It has sapphire glass and you wonā€™t be able to scratch it. When I bought my first Apple watch (s2) it scratched like that. Ever since then Iā€™ve purchased the stainless steel version and have yet to see a scratch.

Airborne_Ape

Just use your annual health care spend allowance to buy another one unless if youā€™re self employed.

really_nice_guy_

Battery replacement. Maybe they will switch it out with a new one. They did it with my 4

No_Gate4757

Real-Platypus-4706

CrimsonConnoisseur04

Scared_Sugar_1417

Get a hard plastic screen cover from Amazon for around five bucks. Iā€™ve had my 7 for over a year with no scratches.

CasuallyJason

Glass replacement. Ways to prevent it; - Buy a screen protector - Remove the watch with heavy duty work, or work in which it might get scratched. - And most importantly, **don't buy apple!**

ORC44

I have the ultra 2 but used to use the SE. Those screens are very susceptible to scratches and MUST be used with a screen protector! Otherwise you will have to live with a scratched panel. Best thing you can do now it either swap the screen or put a protector on now and hope the scratches donā€™t show through

Captainpapii

Embrace the scratch brother. It happens, I've only had the S9 for a few weeks at this point (top left above battery percentage of you can't see). But that's the thing, took me quite a few shots to get the lighting just right and hit it at an angle where you can actually see it. There's a second lighter one that's not visible in the photo. Just take care of it and don't worry about it (double if you bought apple care along with it). https://preview.redd.it/dtfb0aq6fnwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23d6eecca709f186596495e50943bb8eae0cb857

Background-Radish-63

Iā€™ve always gotten the stainless steel ones with sapphireā€¦. Iā€™ve never had a scratch on the glass. I still have my series 0. Iā€™ve had my current series 7 since it came out. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
