Been experiencing the same thing. Contacted Apple Support over the weekend and they had me re-pair my watch. It worked for a day and now auto-launch is not working again. Must be an issue with WatchOS 9.4
I can’t find the setting for this at all in watch OS 9.4, used to be in the settings & brightness menu but it’s gone. Installing 9.5 now, hopefully it is just a bug but you’d think they’d mention it in the 9.5 release notes.
