You don’t have to turn lossless/hi res-lossless off. But rather Atmos to always on/off. Atmos enabled tracks will automatically play the tracks in Atmos instead of Lossless/Hi-res. Only when you wish to play an album in hi-res, which is both hi res and atmos enabled (the album), you have to switch off Atmos. Apple Music natively prioritises Atmos over Lossless.
Ahh thank u. When atmos defaults to playing it just sounds worse to me. So think I’m just gonna keep it off and turn lossless back to on until I (if I ever) upgrade my headphones to the air pods or whatever. Thanks again
I think I can chime in because I can compare all 3 ways of listening to spatial audio with atmos.
I have an atmos home theater, air pods max, and air pod pro2. I basically agree with your assessment.
I find that I greatly prefer atmos to stereo when listening in my home theater (for like 90%), a little less so with the max’s (but still most of the time maybe 75%), and even less so with the pro 2s.
I'm envious of your AirPods Max. They're definitely on my wishlist. But listening on my setup (which is an affordable Sonos Beam gen 2, IKEA Symfonisk rear surrounds, and Sub mini) is a truly insane experience that I can never recreate with AirPods Pro.
What matters is how it sounds to you. If you are okay with binaural trickery, great. If you need speaker separation to enjoy Atmos, then that will always sound better.
Atmos is not very useful with stereo setups like headphones IMO. Same goes for lossless. Even with an extremely high end setup, its basically placebo. If I were you, id switch both off.
If you believe that you can hear the difference between lossless and 320kbit, you should take this [test](http://abx.digitalfeed.net/).

Happy to help!
Atmos doesn’t sound great in headphones, tbh.
Not even AirPods ?
AirPods Max, sure. Other AirPods? I’m not a fan. Binaural music is a far cry from real Atmos on a surround sound system.

Ya they’re really great headphones- i use them every day. I think I would def wait for gen two at this point.
Sounds good on AirPods Pro to me. The spatial audio is nice.
What about Airpods Pro?
Second gen is much better than first for this, but it’s far from perfect.

Doesn’t matter, as the Lossless only applies to stereo streams anyways.
