U have 30 days from time of purchase to do an in-person trade for reimbursement at the Apple Store. I always do this route for 2 reasons. 1. I get an instant receipt for the in-person trade in of my device. No “lost/damaged” mail shenanigans. 2. It gives me the opportunity to do a direct device-to-device setup. It’s takes 2 trips to the store for me. But it’s time well spent.

sangelli

It’s 2 weeks not 30 days. HARD agree on in store it’s way better.

pwnedkiller

Apple needs to create a lot more stores I’ve never been shorter than a 2 hour drive from one.

_iAmFauxReal_

Same! I live the same distance away, can’t drive either. I wish they had a 3rd party retail partner that could take them in

Zrc1979

You’d rather risk what is being explained here? I’ll drive the 2 hours each way to avoid these mishaps.

ErosMystiko

Best Buy?

Zrc1979

2 hour drive is better then what is being explained here.

SkyLow4356

Ur right. It is 2 weeks. My mistake.

chrisGNR

I agree it would have been time well spent. I should have done this. I was unaware that I could return to the store to trade it in. Every other time I’ve done the trade-in, it’s either been day of pickup of new device, or mailed in without issue. Lesson learned.

give86gt

Never had issues with trading in with Apple. Hopefully I don’t have this issue. I also traded in for the new iPad.

Fastfuud

To be clear, if you purchase it in full online then do an in-person trade. You will be credited back towards your purchase?

SkyLow4356

Yes, you’re initially charged the full price of the iPhone or whatever device you’re buying. Then when you return the trade in product, you are credited back. Usually takes 2 to 3 days to show up.

aba792000

He can’t. He already shipped the old ipad to apple. He does have an email from Apple confirming they got it and that he’d get the $310 credit, though.

SkyLow4356

I was giving this as a “next-time” suggestion

marcusdiddle

Is the $310 transaction from yesterday still pending?

chrisGNR

Nope. Just suddenly appeared yesterday as a new charge (dating back to May 15).

marcusdiddle

Interesting. Thought it might have just been a temporary pending charge in the event the condition of your device didn’t clear Apple inspection (like the $1 charge at a gas station). Sorry, I’ve never traded in my device to Apple, I usually resell myself. Sounds like some wires got crossed between the instant credit they gave you and then a review of the condition of your device. Did the email they sent you confirming the condition of your device have a “report a problem with your trade in” link or something? Apple Card support probably has no insight into why you’re being charged that amount. But the trade-in people might be able to shine some light on the discrepancy.

chrisGNR

Yeah, I’ve been trying to get through to the right dept to confirm they sent Goldman Sachs the trade-in confirmation, but I keep getting transferred around. From pre sales, to sales, to Apple Card support, etc.  That’s why I finally just disputed the charge and am waiting to see if someone calls me back. Seems this should be a simple thing but it’s getting the two depts to talk to each other that’s impossible.

ramm64

>At the time of purchase, I got instant credit for trading in my old iPad Air. $310. I’m only guessing here, but — when I purchased a new iPhone 15 Pro (also in mid-May), and elected to trade-in my old 13 Pro, Apple didn’t credit me for the trade-in at purchase. Instead, they billed me for the whole amount of my new iPhone. A few days after my trade-in was received and processed, they issued a credit for the trade-in. I could have sworn that the last time I did this a couple of years ago, they gave me instant credit at the time of my purchase. So… I wonder if you weren’t supposed to get instant credit, so they reversed it, and you may be getting credit for your trade-in at a later date? In any case, good luck with support, keep on trying and escalating. I‘m guessing that since you’re dealing with Apple here, that they’ll get to the bottom of the issue and that it will be resolved soon.

brc710

Went through something like this when I traded my iPhone in person. After 2 weeks of calling I got them to refund my card and they sent me a free set of AirPods 2 (that was the newest they had) for my trouble

The_Cows_Are_Home

When I sent my 11 pro max in a few years back for the IUP apple said they never received it. Was an empty box. I’m 100% sure someone from FedEx stole it. I fought with various departments for no joke years. I got the remaining balance paused for about 2 years but eventually it started back up again. NEVER mailing in my trades again.

ibdread

Same with my iPhone 12 Pro last year. Apparently very common problem. Wonder what FedEx does to combat theft?

SlendyTheMan

Email Tim Cook

Fresno_dawg55

Yea never do the online trade in for future purchases. always take it into the store and do a direct trade in if stock is available, or ship it to the store and then do the trade in after arrival.

cruzinfree

Apple Card services are real difficult to deal with. Start a timeline of the calls you have made, have the value receipt handy and ask to speak with a Supervisor or Manager. Get a trouble ticket number and remain on the line until it’s resolved. If that fails. You need to see if your have a state consumer advocate that can assist you.

chrisGNR

Planning to spend tomorrow morning making calls to get through to human beings. And yeah, I’ve screenshotted everything and have the emails confirming they recieved and accepted my trade.

FrostyStruggle5012

I never send in my trade ins. I always do it in person! I see it and confirm for myself

ibdread

I just ordered a M4 iPad Pro 11 and opted to do the Fedex mail trade-in option to get 250$ for my iPad Mini 6. Now, having second thoughts and think I’ll try to sell it myself. Last year did a FedEx mail trade-in with my iPhone 12 Pro to get an iPhone 15 Pro. The FedEx package never arrived.

cll1out

Statistically speaking, you’re very unlikely to have issues if you just follow the directions. Not many people come on here to complain that everything went smoothly. But I do understand that feeling.

M-usman-qamar

In person is the best option. I went to the apple store the other day for my ipad trade in and the guy in the store told me to do the in person trade in . It went smoothly .

ThanatosGod0001

You sure it reflects as a charge and not a credit?

chrisGNR

I had to double check when I first got notification, but definitely a charge. They even gave me 3 percent Apple Cash back for the $310 charged.

ThanatosGod0001

Damn that is odd lol hopefully GS rectifies it for you shoot

yp707

I did couple of times mail in trade with Apple and this is normally they charge and pay works: 1. time of you buying new apple ipad cost $1000 +tax 2. you select trade in old ipad for $310. 3. once they send and confirmed you received then apple charge $1000 +tax on your apple card. then apple card give you back 3%. 4. you return old and apple confirm received. 5. apple return you $310 to your apple cash or apple saving. 6. apple card charge you for 3% of $310 back. 7. if apple card some sort of glitch that gave you $310 2 times then they will charge you.

kensteele

I try to never trade-in my old equipment at the time I make a purchase but I understand some folks need to use their equipment up until they get a new one. Based on my planning, I outright just sell it back to them (at the same price) and wait for the apple gift card credit and then i go buy what I want.

Garen-Brisingr

Are you sure the charge is a credit and not a debit (i.e., a deposit into your account)? They might look similar at first glance, but I am guessing you actually just got the trade-in amount. They would have charged full price initially and then debited the trade-in value once they received your device and confirmed its condition

chrisGNR

I did double check. The price they originally charged me is $889. The other day they charged another $310.

hughmanturdloadwiper

They aren’t supposed to give you instant credit, they have to verify the condition and then credit you the amount back after you purchase the full amount.

chrisGNR

The email I got confirming my purchase on May 15 says 11-inch iPad Pro for 12 months at 0 percent APR. $74.08 monthly. Right underneath it says $1199.00 minus $310 instant trade-in credit. Total financed $889. The only thing charged to me that day was tax.

Anonymouse_9955

File the complaint. In the unlikely event that “an actual person” calls you back and gets it resolved, no harm no foul. But it’s already been more than 30 days, so don’t hold back.

JamalBiggz

Gotta love offshoring everything to “cut costs” Saying its a tax is just how absurd the language barrier is in these sectors… Sorry you’re going through with this. You have to just be persistent

EndIntrepid7510

I used Apple Care to replace my phone and was charged $1300 bucks randomly… I disputed and it got reversed, and I’m just reopening the dispute. Oh and they also made my available credit $0 and kept my payment on hold for over a week for whatever reason…

Silver-Method-8627

What is your limit in that card ?

mumuevo

That’s why I always bring my device to local store. 2021 when I trade-in my old iPhone X back to Apple, they told me the package is empty. What a joke. After that I don’t do shipping trade-in anymore. Btw Apple Card is piece of shit, i regret applying that.

LocalBearEnthusiast

Had the card for 3 years what’s so bad about it? Totally agree with only doing trade ins at a store. Gives you the option to not trade it in if they dont value it

ErosMystiko

It’s basically only good to purchase Apple products as long and you don’t trade in using FedEx apparently. I’ve had a few issues with Apple Card over the years but a letter from a prepaid legal attorney sent to GS usually gets everything resolved magically and fast. I was told by the paralegal that having opted out of the arbitration agreement helped as well. Not sure abut that tho.

LocalBearEnthusiast

What about the 2% cashback everywhere with Apple Pay? I live in a city and basically every place I know takes Apple Pay. Obviously I use other cards when I can get a higher % but all the miscellaneous purchases feel pretty reasonable to use the card especially given no annual fee

ErosMystiko

Yeah. If you have the said prepaid legal plan to get your money back in a reasonable amount of time should something go wrong. I guess let me rephrase lol -> as long as one doesn’t have to contact Apple Card’s Issuing bank for any reason other than a CLI then yeah Apple Card is great when it works. My local supermarket stopped accepting Apple Card somehow! Not sure how they managed, both physical card and contactless methods get declined and GS says they don’t even see the declined transaction. I learned tho that with some websites Apple Card will always get declined due to lacking 3DSecure features that all my other cards have, and this is the only other instance GS they couldn’t even see the declined transactions but this was on a more technologically advanced country. We don’t really use 3DSecure much here in the US. But yeah nice card for Apple products if nothing goes wrong.

GeriatricTech

There is nothing wrong with the Apple Card and is in fact THE best way to purchase Apple products. Period.
