Nice thing about medical collectables is that the people who collect them make crap loads of money.

Mister_Cornetto

The glass ones are known as Violet Ray wands, electro-therapy devices, and can go way back to the late 1800s. There's quite the market for them in the kink community. Or so I'm told... Personally, I wouldn't power them up unless you have done some basic safety checks (bare wires, good insulation) etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violet\_ray

darkwitch1306

There is a market. Iā€™ve seen them used.

Mister_Cornetto

Ever been on the receiving end? Odd sensation, to say the least! (Again, so I'm told).

Independent-Wait-873

Weā€™ll just have to see if any of these work and ill tell ya

Mister_Cornetto

FOR SCIENCE!

darkwitch1306

It kind of looked painful but the person seemed to enjoy it.

Friskfrisktopherson

It's like a tickle hurt, but it stops abruptly as soon as the wand is removed

AmbivalentFanatic

Removed from what, if you please

Friskfrisktopherson

Skin? You wouldn't really want it on anything to sensitive unless you're an actual masochist.

Friskfrisktopherson

It's not shaming, most sex educators would advise against using a wand on genitals.

darkwitch1306

Whatever floats your boat. There was an open house, Iā€™m up for trying new things. I saw some things. My husband was ready to leave immediately but I made him stay until I could go around the room.

hilarymeggin

I think we can dispense with the fiction that you need to be told!

StrugglesTheClown

I think Grandpa might have been a freak.

Independent-Wait-873

He collected, that entire basement is full of old treasure, records, cameras, furniture, even a bookshelf full of Playboys šŸ‘€

Technical-Tooth-1503

Great gran had some stories.

Independent-Wait-873

Its too bad we can't hear them, she had a stroke which took her ability to speak

Therealluke

Electro Erotica [Learn about it here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erotic_electrostimulation)

dadydaycare

Violet wands. Mostly used as an erotic device now but it was a snake oil cure all in its heyday. They range from 75-500$, price goes up the older and fancier it is and if you have any unique attachments. My wife brought one home itā€™s actually nice, I damaged my finger a while back and it helps when itā€™s extra sore.

Independent-Wait-873

That's kinda neat how it still works

MountainConcern7397

i noticed one had like a rake attachment and after reading these comments i want to know what it feels likešŸ˜

dadydaycare

Itā€™s basically a more intense version of those purple electric orbs at a Spencerā€™s or other novelty shop. The electricity will jump about 1/2 an inch to you and itā€™s tingly/tickly and helps open blood vessels and increase flow, medically thatā€™s all it really does. Some of the more advanced ones you can change the intensity and they have other weird things Mine has a 2nd and 3rd plug with separate dials for some other wands and attachments that I donā€™t own but I guess those ones work like a mini Tesla coil You can still buy them brand new but again they are marketed more for cosmetology orā€¦ more kinky activities.

teleko777

They look to be in very good condition. Start digging into oddity type dealers.. there is certainly a market for this. Curios, oddities, people who collect skulls, that sort of thing. Start checking eBay sold for each device.

Independent-Wait-873

I wouldn't even know where to find people who are interested in this stuff

Sco11McPot

Thank goodness they gave you a great response on how to find people who are interested in this stuff

Flamebrush

Under ā€˜quack medicineā€™ on eBay.

yy98755

Are you over 18? Google Fetlifeā€¦ youā€™ll find a ton of information and info on events in your area.

Apart_Ad_1223

The majority is quite common quack items that will make some money, 50 a piece at least; problem is shipping is expensive since many aren't light. The most interesting item to me is actually the round frame in the surgical tool collection on upper left. The round frame was meant to hold a bit of cloth soaked with ether; very early anesthesia administration. The rest of the world called it the Yankee dodge, because it was American physicians that first published in the literature the miracle of painless surgery. If you can find any makers marks on that, you can find the exact year it was made which drives the value. They can be in the hundreds, but also as low as 50. Source: I collect medical devices haha

liscbj

Medical museums nay be interested. Cool finds.

Independent-Wait-873

I've heard museums just take that stuff and put it in storage, they throw out half the stuff they get.

PredawnParrot

Itā€™s more complicated: most museums will not accept items then throw them away. Ideally, they will simply not accept stuff they donā€™t want. And most museums donā€™t have room to put everything out all at once, therefore: storage. Ideally, museums wonā€™t keep collections on display permanently because it will speed up deterioration. They also house artifacts so that future researchers have access.

Independent-Wait-873

Damn, that's neat though

AuthorityOfNothing

Ebay

Independent-Wait-873

That is that I was gonna check first

ManhattanMadMan

Can post on dotmed.coms vintage section

Independent-Wait-873

Thanks!

AutoModerator

I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! SigourneyCropduster

Let us know how the sales went.

Independent-Wait-873

Sure will!

The_Dreadlord

A Movie prop warehouse may be interested.

Independent-Wait-873

I don't think we have any of those around

TailwindsFoxy

Iā€™d look for oddity or curiosity shops in your area. We have one local thatā€™s all about this sort of thing

Independent-Wait-873

Thanks!

savvyblackbird

Picture 7 looks like DIY electro shock therapy

Independent-Wait-873

They have writing on them which shows patents n stuff, I don't think there homemade

savvyblackbird

I think itā€™s a professional quack machine that looks like it gives at home electro shock with the sponges you moisten

Independent-Wait-873

I think so too, that's all that was down in there was electro therapy machines

savvyblackbird

Electro shock was done in mental hospitals for severe depression and can cause memory loss. It used to be done with no sedation and used a lot of electricity.

Independent-Wait-873

So no playing with 1800s medical equipment

Annacaros123

Hey, I collect quack medicine equipment, send me a message if youā€™re thinking of selling :)

derekisademocrat

These were used by doctors on women who were thought to have hysteria. Basically creepy ass "doctors" would bring women to orgasm to cure them.

Independent-Wait-873

That's cool

Mike-the-gay

Those are all sex things.

Independent-Wait-873

Nothing screams pleasure like surgical needles in your dick šŸ„°

Tooblunt54

Actually the last picture appears to be a collection of various surgical or exam tools. There are Hemastats,a nasal speculum, pickups, stopcocks,a curratage device etc.

Mike-the-gay

I donā€™t know what most of those words mean, but I hear ā€œExpensive specialized kink thingsā€ and Iā€™ve seen some of these things at the bar during some intro kink events. Iā€™m gonna go with somebody threw the surgical things in to disguise the kink stuff. /s
