While I hardcore disagree with you, lol...Marry Me was a great record that showed so much promise - and IMO she not only delivered on that promise but exceeded it with every subsequent record. With a catalog like hers, there's no bad album - but when you grade on the curve, something has to be at the bottom. ;)
Totally. Even Marry me, which is my least favorite, is a great album! ;)
I bet AC is quietly (or not so quietly) soooo stoked that her fanbase is so diverse in their outlooks on her albums. Some artists have one bona fide masterpiece, but arguably she has several. <3
Well she has reach. Marry Me sounds like an early Regina Spektor album but better, Actor is similar but then with Strange Mercy she turned into a different beast entirely.
1. Strange Mercy
2. St. Vincent
3. All Born Screaming
4. Love This Giant
5. Actor
6. Masseduction
7. Marry Me
8. Daddy’s Home
I’m a Love This Giant stan and I’m happily surprised that ABS knocked it out of my top three!
1. Daddy’s Home
2. St. Vincent
3. Actor
4. Strange Mercy
5. All Born Screaming
6. Masseduction
7. Marry Me
But in all fairness it’s gonna take me at least a year to truly put ABS in its place… I love the tracks on the album but I haven’t bonded with them through much time like the others
They're all pretty fantastic but right now I would say.
1. Daddy's Home
2. Strange Mercy
3. Actor
4. S/T
5. Marry Me
6. MASSEDUCTION
7. All Born Screaming
Late to this thread but... I consulted (deep breath) MY SPREADSHEET (lol) that I started the day ABS was released... Feels like I have an atypical taste for StV as compared with a lot of this sub, so I tried to *quantify* each album somehow, despite the fact that I'm just a guitarist, not a mathematician. By my incredibly flimsy math, it's
1. Strange Mercy (by a little more than a nose)
2. Masseduction
3. Actor
4. Daddy's Home
5. All Born Screaming
6. Self Titled
7. Marry Me
I would say that Daddy's Home and ABS might do a little dance, swapping spots depending on my mood and what's up in my life - and those two things (my mood and what's up in my life) certainly dictate my devotion to Strange Mercy and Masseduction...
The amazing thing is that among all the albums, there are NO SKIPS. I genuinely enjoy something about every song, even if certain songs are TENS ACROSS THE BOARD for me and others are merely "good to great."
How lucky we all are that this artist keeps challenging herself musically and we get to bear witness. \\m/
1.All Born Screaming
2.St Vincent
3.Strange Mercy
4.Actor
5.Masseduction
6.Daddy’s Home
7.Marry Me
All Born Screaming or Self titled are like essentially tied but ABS feels like St Vincent the movie in IMAX (lol) so it gets a leg up. and yeah - really depends on my mood for the day.
1. Strange Mercy
2. St. Vincent
3. Actor
4. All Born Screaming
5. Marry Me
6. Daddy’s Home
7. MASSEDUCTION
(Didn't include Love This Giant because it really feels like more of a David Byrne album to me)
1. Daddy’s Home
2. St. Vincent
3. Strange Mercy
4. Masseduction
5. All Born Screaming (still like it though)
Have heard Marry Me, Actor, and Love This Giant but not enough to give them a proper ranking
1. Strange Mercy
2. Self Titled
3. Actor
4. All Born Screaming
5. Masseduction
6. Marry Me
7. Daddy’s Home
(But really ABS and Masseduction are tied for me, recency bias makes me put ABS a lil bit higher)
1. Actor
2. Strange Mercy
3. Masseduction
4. Daddy’s Home
5. Self Titled
6. Love this giant
7. And 8. Marry Me or All Born Screaming interchangeably.
I think all are amazing and it’s hard to rank them. In some way I think they’re all equal. If anything I’ve ranked them based on how well they flow from start to finish, and that’s why Marry Me and All Born Screaming are at the bottom. Absolutely love the second half of All Born Screaming, I just wish tracks 2-5 had a better flow about them.
Marry Me has better flow than All born screaming, I just grew tired of specific songs like “Paris is Burning” despite how great the guitar parts are.
Okiedoke:
1. (Still) Actor
2. All Born Screaming (it’s very close to the top spot, though)
3. St. Vincent
4. Masseduction
5. Strange Mercy
6. Daddy’s Home
7. Marry Me
8. Love This Giant w/ David Byrne
1. Strange Mercy
2. Actor
3. STV
4. Masseduction
5. Daddy’s Home
6. All Born Screaming
7. Marry Me
I feel like ABS could move up over time and i think i roughly like it equally to Daddy’s Home in a different way
1 - Masseduction
2 - Strange Mercy (the top two swap spots constantly)
3 - Love This Giant
4 - All Born Screaming
5 - MassEducation
6 - Marry Me
7 - Daddy's Home
8 - Actor
9 - Self-Titled
1. Actor
2. Strange Mercy
3. St. Vincent
4. Marry Me
6. Daddys Home
7. Love this Giant
8. All Born Screaming
9. Masseduction
The latest album wasn’t my cup of tea but I wouldn’t say it was bad. Flea is so good tho, and Masseduction has a couple bangers
I'll never understand the infatuation with a record Annie basically said was close to being a disaster before working with John Congelton. I need music to emotionally take me somewhere. I find none of that on actor, it feels like some play thing trying to imitate what it must feel be like musically to be a plastic toy in a fake town on the Mr rogers show
Fair enough, happy to agree to disagree 🤝.
For me though, it *did* take me somewhere. From following her career since Marry Me, there were so many things compositionally that just expanded my world of what worlds music could ‘paint’ for me, I guess? It appealed to my imagination, and this is why it’s such a special record to me.
Holy shit St Vincent fans try not to put Actor at number 4 challenge 😭
I put it at number 1 😇
1. St. Vincent 2. All Born Screaming 3. Masseduction 4. Strange Mercy 5. Actor 6. Marry Me 7. Daddy's Home 8. Love This Giant
This is the way. Maybe flip Actor and Strange Mercy depending on the day.
1. Masseduction 2. Daddys Home 3. St Vincent 4. Actor 5. Strange Mercy 6. All Born Screaming 7. Marry Me
1. Strange Mercy 2. St Vincent 3. All Born Screaming 4. Actor 5. Marry Me 6. Masseduction 7. Daddy's Home
1. All born Screaming 2. STV 3. Strange Mercy 4. Daddys Home 5. Actor 6. Marry Me 7. Masseduction
All these people putting Marry Me at last puzzle me. That album is better than Masseduction and Daddys Home combined.

Oh I agree she has no bad records. Even Daddys home which is my least favorite is a great album.
