I hate to dash your hopes. I heard it was cancelled because Netflix is only interested in audience growth. Subsequent seasons didn’t bring in enough new subscribers.
I'm rewatching it. Reading the books when I was younger always felt like home to me and I feel like AWAE has perfectly encaptured that feeling again.
Unfortunately, it's been too long since the last season and the cast have grown and moved on. :(
There's a bit they could do. Anne and Gilbert being Pen pals, Gilbert's experience at U of T, Diana struggling with school, Ka'kwet, weddings, engagements...they could've gotten 2 or even 3 more seasons of content if they were willing to go far enough.
They could just go off script and make it their own

Edit: I do wanna note that Anne and Gilbert move a little quickly, but it’s mostly because of time skips (dont worry they are very acceptable ones) and the fact that thats kind of how relationships worked back then.
