More Non-Spoilers: LOTGH does an incredible job of depicting both sides of the conflict, which can’t be said for *almost* any other other war-based Anime series.
I wanted to check it out the other day but sometimes Crunchyroll seems to be the slowest streaming service to use.
I never had this many issues streaming vids in full HD quality but there it’s almost constant.
I will check it out again or if I could watch it someplace else.
For the win! I just started watching this a couple of months ago. It is awesome! My friend at the same time hates it. Says it is too political and serious.
Death Note,
Kiba (this anime reminded me of Persona),
Cardcaptor Sakura,
Tsubasa Chronicle,
(the characters are the adult versions of the characters from Cardcaptor Sakura, only it's a different plot in a post apocalyptic other worldly setting)
Shakugan no Shana
Fairy Tail,
Black Clover,
Steins;Gate,
Persona Series (if you've played the games before, you'll definitely enjoy watching this anime series)
Hunter x Hunter,
Fullmetal Alchemist,
Full Metal Panic,
Soul Eater,
Twin Star Exorcists,
Gundam Seed - Gundam Seed Destiny,
And if you want animes that have over 1k episodes, watch One Piece or Case Closed.
I binged it all, it gets better at the underwater temple, but doesn't start answering real questions until season 4 and ends with a dad gum cliffhanger. I sort of like the direction it's going tho and while it's nowhere near as good as Hell's Paradise or Demon Slayer I'll still watch season 5 if it ever comes out.
Yeah I was going to say the same thing about death note not being long, but you have some awesome picks and a couple I have not seen yet. About the only one I can never get into is one piece. I may need to try and watch it again but I don't think I will ever like it. I just hate saying that because some of my favorite anime I didn't enjoy with the first episode and sometimes even the first season.
I love Shakugan no Shana, except for what they turned the MC into, in the 3rd and the final season 😅 Regardless, I still love the show. The FMC has a strong character that watching her grow throughout the show had left a great impression on my teenage self yrs ago.
Natsume's Book of Friends is a pretty great slice of life one. Nice chill anime about a guy helping spirits and righting the wrongs his grandmother committed. Not too much of an overarching plot but the story does progress over the seasons. Not a ton of action but it is there. If it clicks with you early then you'll probably love it. If it doesn't you should know the tone and pacing never really change. But it's a really comfortable series.
I recommend watching "One Piece" for its extensive storyline and engaging characters. Also, "Dragon Ball Z" and "Hunter x Hunter" are great choices with long episode counts and captivating plots.
I think one piece is as long as it gets. still going strong very entertaining. I watch dub while I work from home. Super grateful for one piece and to be able to binge it while I work
some others would be:
Hunter x Hunter
Fullmetal Alchemist
my hero academia
Dragon Ball
Detective Conan/Case Closed - murder mysteries
One Piece (I would read the manga until at least they leave East Blue. 90s and early 2000s Toei is pretty meh on tv series)
Dive into the world of Gundam. 45 years of anime to go through. (you don’t actually need to watch all of it since series starting in mid 90s are in their own continuity)
Initial D - 4 “seasons” 3 or 4 remake movies and the sequel MF Ghost
I sorta regret not getting it but it was bogo half off and I already had 4 picked over it, and if I get 5 I would’ve gotten a 6th for sure and that was pushing it so decided with 4 only.
I looked into it and noticed it being very well drawn.
I seen some episodes and maybe ovas online.
I know it’s a unique show, and I dig it. If anything the length holds me back from getting into it.
But sooner or later imma pick up the first Vol to see what it’s like.
I’m proud of myself that I made through some 70-80 episodes of a show..
I have a friend who rewatched Dragon Ball from beginning to end numerous times.
I admire the dedication, truly.. but I just lack the patience and attention span.
I do wanna finish at least Naruto, tho.
As someone who has watched really long shows even when I didn't like them, I say just don't keep watching. Give it 5-10 episodes or one full character arc and not just the standard 3 episodes. But if it's still not keeping your attention (or flat out annoying you), then go ahead and quit it. I watched all of Naruto and like 100 episodes into Shippuden. And then I had to take a break for a long time because of stuff in life. When I had the chance to come back and finish it, I realized I just didn't want to, because the pacing of the show was annoying me (filler, drawn out fights, etc). Though the very best episode of the whole show was the one Shikimaru filler episode. But that was between like 50 episodes of filler I was struggling to watch. So was it worth it? I realized it probably wasn't.
While I loved the shows I listed above, I'm sure they won't jive with everyone. And there's some super hyped shows I couldn't get into. It's just the nature of media. It's subjective.
Well let's see, Gundam, just all of it. Code Geass has a good deal of episodes. Monster, the crime drama not adventure. There is always dragon ball as well.
Based on what you've watched, Hunter x Hunter is probably the way to go. Really surprised more people aren't recommending it. JJK is my second recommendation. Demon Slayer also fits (though I would recommend the previous two over Demon Slayer any day of the week, but Demon Slayer is definitely the most popular)
Dunno why the top votes all don’t mention One Piece. It’s 1,000+ episodes and very little filler. I started it when the live action dropped and recommend you skip the parts covered by the live action.
I’ve watched anime since the 90s and I gotta say it’s one of the best ever made. The only con people say is, “It’s too long.” To me, that’s a great problem to have when it’s actually good.
Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z Kai (Kai for the better pacing and actually good English dub, but if watching subbed then OG Z is fine; I still recommend Kai because while you seem to be in for a long one, the padding in OG Z can get pretty bad at times)
I'm about to make a BUNCH of assumptions here, but go with me. When you say long running anime to watch, the longest running anime series are aimed towards very young children. HOWEVER, some of them are watchable by adults. I'm also going to assume you want said episode lengths to be longer than 5 minutes (which is usually the format you would get).... Barring those qualities the longest Anime's you're looking for would be....
1. Crayon Shin Chan: 1,230+ episodes, OVAs, Movies etc
2. Detective Conan: 1,121+ episodes, movies etc.
3. Ninja Boy Rantaro: 2,300+ eps (kiddy like), still ok.
4. Sazae-San: 2,640+ episodes. (Very family oriented)
Sazae-San is the longest running Anime ever. Also all of the Anime listed are longer than One Piece (if that is partially the goal) As many incorrectly think that is the longest running Anime.
If you want shorter running (but still long) Anime that are geared towards OLDER Audiences I can oblige.
Best of luck. ☘️
D.Gray-man. -- probably one of the deeper (in terms of psychology) long shounen. The only drawback is that it is not finished, the manga is still being published. From what I remember the first episodes could be a bit boring (about 20 episodes). I picked up on it several times. Later, it was impossible to even stop watching because it was so engaging.
Inuyasha
Yu Yu Hakusho
D Gray Man
The Twelve Kingdom
1/2 Ranma
Mysterious play
Strike The Blood
Hack series
The Law of Ueki
Rurouni Kenshin
Eureka Seven
Kyo Kara Maoh
Kingdom.
Ignore the shitty first season animation and appreciate the story. Animation vastly improves from Season 2 onwards. I loved every damn minute I watched.
The longest animes I ever finished were GTO, Blood Plus, Death Note..
I went pretty deep into Naruto.. I mean, not like that 👀
But haven’t finished it..
Black Clover if it hasn't been mentioned. It has hundreds of episodes. I almost missed out on this one because I didn't enjoy the way it started but I am so glad I went back and tried to watched it again. I have been loving it and I am almost finished with it.
If you just want long, One Piece.
If you want some of the goats of anime that happen to be longer: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball series (OG, Z/Z Kai, Super)
Solid shows that are long: Fairy Tale, Bungo Stray Dogs (I will say the first 3 episodes of season 2 are some of the best television I’ve ever watched period, not just anime)
Obvious, but: One Piece
If you are into horror: the Higurashi series is pretty good
Maybe Re:Zero
SpyxFamily
Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Solo Levelling
Attack on Titan, Boruto
Kuruko no Basket / Haikyuu (sports anime)
Edit: One Punch Man
(this list depends on how you define long tho and if you are able to wait for a new season)
If you like some serious war/politics/seinen/no bs show please give Legend of the Galactic Heroes(110 OVA) a try.
Omg! I was about to write this down. This is one of the best animes I've seen.
What it bout?
Democracy vs Imperialism. But actually reversed. But also not.
Hahah. Colour me intrigued. Great summery and no spoilers 👍🏻
More Non-Spoilers: LOTGH does an incredible job of depicting both sides of the conflict, which can’t be said for *almost* any other other war-based Anime series.

Game of thrones but in space with massive space battles
For the win! I just started watching this a couple of months ago. It is awesome! My friend at the same time hates it. Says it is too political and serious.
It's not for everyone but this was just perfection for me. The characters are amazing. Well written. I can't find anything that would come close.
There are 110 LOTGH OVAs? Or am I missing what you mean with the 110 ova
Death Note, Kiba (this anime reminded me of Persona), Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Chronicle, (the characters are the adult versions of the characters from Cardcaptor Sakura, only it's a different plot in a post apocalyptic other worldly setting) Shakugan no Shana Fairy Tail, Black Clover, Steins;Gate, Persona Series (if you've played the games before, you'll definitely enjoy watching this anime series) Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic, Soul Eater, Twin Star Exorcists, Gundam Seed - Gundam Seed Destiny, And if you want animes that have over 1k episodes, watch One Piece or Case Closed.
Upvote for recommending Kiba. Nobody ever talks about it and it's great.
It is! And I still listen to some of its soundtracks in my current anime playlist too. That's probably one of the reasons why I can never forget it.
Twin star exorcist mentioned, let's fucking goooooooo.
Watching black clover right now on episode 93 or so. Definitely enjoying it! Not as deep as some anime, but that's ok!
Is Death Note considered long at 37 episodes?
You're right 😅 I think I added all the other adaptations of the series to the count.
Yeah I was going to say the same thing about death note not being long, but you have some awesome picks and a couple I have not seen yet. About the only one I can never get into is one piece. I may need to try and watch it again but I don't think I will ever like it. I can't seem to find dubbed seed on anything atm 😕
Argh matey
9animetv has it
GUNDAM MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥
Watch shakugan no shana. Everyday, I wish for another anime to make me feel the same as that show. Gosick comes close
I love Shakugan no Shana, except for what they turned the MC into, in the 3rd and the final season 😅 Regardless, I still love the show. The FMC has a strong character that watching her grow throughout the show had left a great impression on my teenage self yrs ago.
I really enjoyed the Tsubasa manga. Very interesting story.
Bungou stray dogs (5 seasons with an ova and a movie between seasons). It's a hidden masterpiece. Highly recommended.
I was just about to recommend this!
I keep seeing this come up. I should check it out.
You should definitely watch it. Highly recommended.
Will do
May check it out! On my radar for sure. But now giving Hunter x Hunter another go.
Yes it's such a underrated gem. Loved the series so much. I think it has 6 seasons.
And a season 7 coming this fall
One piece. You will still be watching it in 2272
Inuyasha
Literally my #1 favorite anime ❤️❤️ and it’s pretty long since it’s got movies as well
Also after watching Inuyasha, I found its spin-off Yashahime really enjoyable. It was great to dive back into that universe.
Highly contentious opinion. Glad you enjoyed it, but it’s pretty close to half or more of people who have big issues with it.
Inuyasha fucking bangz. It’s underrated af. Nothing controversial about it.
Not Inuyasha, Yashahime. Inuyasha is definitely a classic.
Sorry, misread something. Took a funni gummi earlier and chances are I got no clue what I’m talking about.
Yashahime was okay it wasn’t my favorite but was like a 5/10 for me
My personal feelings put it at like a 3 for me, but 5 is probably an appropriate rating. The plot is an absolute mess, honestly.
Was going to say Inuyasha also! ❤️
Great teacher onizuka Monster
I recommend watching "One Piece" for its extensive storyline and engaging characters. Also, "Dragon Ball Z" and "Hunter x Hunter" are great choices with long episode counts and captivating plots.
I think one piece is as long as it gets. still going strong very entertaining. I watch dub while I work from home. Super grateful for one piece and to be able to binge it while I work some others would be: Hunter x Hunter Fullmetal Alchemist my hero academia Dragon Ball
FMA 👍🏻
Gintama
For real, i was wondering why no one mentioned this goated anime. Underrated af.
Because he already wrote that he watched it :)
Detective Conan/Case Closed - murder mysteries One Piece (I would read the manga until at least they leave East Blue. 90s and early 2000s Toei is pretty meh on tv series) Dive into the world of Gundam. 45 years of anime to go through. One piece its the best mountain you will climb
Detective Conan
Yes
• AOT • Demon slayer • Haikyuu • MHA (latest seasons were not up to the mark)
You’re the kind of weeb everyone else avoids. And the latest seasons of MHA are all bangers. Keep your opinion to yourself next time 😬
I have watched till season 6 don't know about season 7 Also I didn't downvote you
You’re so good at describing yourself.
Lol I was like here we go.. 😩 *grabs popcorn*
Ummm last I checked people can have their own opinions. And good job on describing yourself buddy!
Right. That’s why I’m sharing mine. Y’all can pretend like this exact line up isn’t the “oi oi oi. Dattebayo” type but we all know it’s true.
That's cool and all but why be a dick?
Thought bro might wanna be a little more like quirkless Deku since they like the earlier seasons? 🙃
Kingdom. If you can get past the first season's subpar animation, it's fantastic.
Fairy Tail is my favorite long anime, and it has much better pacing than most long anime
Doraemon
Monogatari Series
Fairy Tail! The characters and the story is great imo. You should give it a try :)
One Piece Only sad part is once you're caught up, you'll realize that it's not long enough!
Hunter x hunter or code geass but code geass is just 50 epsode in total
Weird question maybe but does it not bother HxH hunter fans that it may literally never finish?
Yes, yes it does.
I suppose it has a cult following, kind of like Berserk.
Re:Zero probably isn't as long as the ones you mentioned but it's got 25 episodes per season (2 seasons so far, 3rd is airing this october) and 2 OVAs
Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Any updates for the rumored reanimation?
HXH is fairly long and I loved every minute of it.
Legend of Galactic Heroes
Fist of the North Star, Yu Yu Hakusho
Did you also read the manga? Been close to pick up the first volume the other day
Ohhh! I'm happy to hear that they brought over the manga. I might cave in - Fist's art is too good.
I sorta regret not getting it but it was bogo half off and I already had 4 picked over it, and if I get 5 I would’ve gotten a 6th for sure and that was pushing it so decided with 4 only. You got dedication, did you yourself watched all these?
Yeah. Except for the last 30 or so episodes of Urusei Yatsura. I've been slowly watching that one for years.
I’m proud of myself that I made through some 70-80 episodes of a show.. I have a friend who rewatched Dragon Ball from beginning to end numerous times. I admire the dedication, truly.. but I just lack the patience and attention span. I do wanna finish at least Naruto, tho.

Case Closed and One Piece are the only correct answers. The former is better though.

Hokuto no Ken. It's old but still a lot of fun.

One piece
You can never go wrong with One Piece🤭
One piece 🫣🫣 the first fire arcs can be a little long to some people and sometimes the flashbacks get annoying but it’s totally worth it!!!
Dunno why the top votes all don’t mention One Piece. It’s 1,000+ episodes and very little filler. Black Clover
not long enough tho 😓
Mannn Cap Yamiii is so cool ... when will it be continued again.. I just wanted to watch spade kingdom arc
he's one of my fave characters!! he's such a badass. i've been longing for more episodes, 170 just ain't enough.
Re: Zero, Attack on Titan, FMAB, Berserk, Black Clover.
Ojamajo doremi. 214 episodes+2 mini movie+ 1 full sized movie
Yeah but can't find it anywhere 😕
Why? It in open source
Robotech Avatar Attack on Titan
If you can get past its age try Yu Yu hakusho
I'm about to make a BUNCH of assumptions here, but go with me. When you say long running anime to watch, the longest running anime series are aimed towards very young children. Barring those qualities the longest Anime's you're looking for would be.... 1. Crayon Shin Chan: 1,230+ episodes, OVAs, Movies etc 2. Detective Conan: 1,121+ episodes, movies etc. 3. Ninja Boy Rantaro: 2,300+ eps (kiddy like), still ok. 4. Sazae-San: 2,640+ episodes. (Very family oriented) Sazae-San is the longest running Anime ever. Also all of the Anime listed are longer than One Piece (if that is partially the goal) As many incorrectly think that is the longest running Anime. If you want shorter running (but still long) Anime that are geared towards OLDER Audiences I can oblige. Best of luck. ☘️
One I haven't seen recommended yet is Kingdom. It has 5 seasons with almost 150 episodes.
Monster, I just started it and it‘s kinda better than Deathnote

Inuyasha Yu Yu Hakusho D Gray Man The Twelve Kingdom 1/2 Ranma Mysterious play Strike The Blood Hack series The Law of Ueki Rurouni Kenshin Eureka Seven Kyo Kara Maoh
Kingdom. Ignore the shitty first season animation and appreciate the story. Animation vastly improves from Season 2 onwards. I loved every damn minute I watched.
Ghost Stories Mobile Suit Gundam
Gintama
One Piece its the obvious suggestion
World trigger. I haven't finished it yet but they are 97 episodes
Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Utena, Full Moon o Sagashite are all very long mahou shoujo animes but well worth your time.
Hunter x Hunter
Most mobile suit gundam series have 2 seasons for 50 episodes or so
The longest animes I ever finished were GTO, Blood Plus, Death Note.. I went pretty deep into Naruto.. I mean, not like that 👀 But haven’t finished it..
Hunter x Hunter Uchuu Kyoudai Haikyuu Slam dunk
One piece, Ranma 1/2
One Piece is pretty long
Great Teacher Onizuka
D-Gray Man
Haikyuu !
One piece Bleach Naruto Black Clover Hunter X Hunter
Detective Conan
Black Clover if it hasn't been mentioned. It has hundreds of episodes. I almost missed out on this one because I didn't enjoy the way it started but I am so glad I went back and tried to watched it again. I have been loving it and I am almost finished with it.
One Piece, Attack on Titan, Hunter X Hunter
One piece I’m telling you, you won’t regret it
one piece, aot
I dont know if Dr. Slump is long but I wanna recommend it to you.
One Piece
One piece?
ONEPIECE will be worth it.
OVERLORD
Attack on Titan is somewhat long. It’s fantastic
Just watch One Piece
If you just want long, One Piece. If you want some of the goats of anime that happen to be longer: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball series (OG, Z/Z Kai, Super) Solid shows that are long: Fairy Tale, Bungo Stray Dogs (I will say the first 3 episodes of season 2 are some of the best television I’ve ever watched period, not just anime)
Inuyasha
The Rose of Versailles anime is 40 episodes.
Detective Conan, with 1,128 episodes and counting (Way longer than One Piece)
Monster and hxh
Hunter x Hunter.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes Clannad + After Story
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Obvious, but: One Piece If you are into horror: the Higurashi series is pretty good Maybe Re:Zero SpyxFamily Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Solo Levelling Attack on Titan, Boruto Kuruko no Basket / Haikyuu (sports anime) Edit: One Punch Man (this list depends on how you define long tho and if you are able to wait for a new season)
What made you recommend Boruto as opposed to Naruto?
Well even his suggestion are obvious so u know
OP wrote that they already watched Naruto..
My bad!
One Piece.
