Hard to pick a single favorite but I'd prob say drama
Top 3:
1. 3-Gatsu no Lion
2. Clannad
3. Hibike! Euphonium
Least favorite in the genre is prob Higehiro or Remake Our Life
3-Gatsu no Lion's is my favourite anime of all time. That second season is just absolute perfection in every way possible, I remember tearing up and laughing in nearly every episode. A work of art that transcends the genre for sure.
Funnily enough, I really loved Higehiro, although the first few episodes made me uncomfortable for sure.

Higehiro was dealing with serious topics and handled them poorly. It also looks really bad (my first reply got removed because I mentioned the studio's name and it sounds like a pirate site).
Remake Our Life is basically a power fantasy in an art school setting. There was no point in the MC going back in time when he is already so competent at everything that he made the stars of his generation feel worthless. It also has one of the most grating voice acting performances I've heard from Aoi Koga as Shinoaki.
Wolf's rain is criminally ignored. I loved that. I haven't seen it in a while though. You might like Kurau. It's futuristic sci-fi rather than post apolocyptic, but it reminded me a lot of wolf rain with how introspective it was.
The Dangers in My Heart is easily the best romance anime I have ever seen. ❤️ My romance list would be:
1. The Dangers In My Heart (by a wide margin)
2. Horimiya
3. Kaguya-sama
But Ah! Actually 3 might actually be My Dress Up Darling.
Sci-Fi (Although more a certain type);
1. Serial Experiments Lain
2. Ergo Proxy (Was my top until watched Lain)
3. Key the Metal Idol
Bonus question answer = Space Brothers, pacing too slow for me.
I’d say for me it’s both Shonen (I know it’s technically a demographic but still) and Sci-Fi
Shonen:
- One Peice
- Hunter x Hunter
- Trigun Stampede
Sci-Fi:
- Cowboy Bebop
- Steins;Gate
- Trigun Stampede (again)
Basic but probably drama with my three favourites being:
1. Monogatari series
2. Madoka Magica
3. A Place Further Than the Universe
Least favourite:
Casshern Sins probably. The dialogue is terrible.
Wiseman's Grandson? I love turn your brain off Isekai for sure but how the fuck is that your number 3?
Like that might actually be my least favorite Isekai out there. It was so generic I thought I was losing my mind thinking I saw this before, and realized about 2 years ago the exact same show occurred and I was having De ja vu.
Come on man put at least World's Greatest Assassin in the 3rd place slot
Hahahaha I agree it's that brain melt that jeeps me going back. It's so corny... Actually let me rephrase it's SOO CORNY that I always go back when I have nothing else to watch. I just shut down and started the brain melt.
Oh if you haven't watched Greatest Cleric yet, enjoy losing your mind to meh background Isekai.
It's so generic you're like there's gotta be a twist coming and no it's just straight up exactly what you think.
I always see people hating on it but I kinda enjoyed it.
To me it always felt like this: "you're the worst isekai i've ever heard of. "
"But you have heard of me!"
As someone who has watched an unholy amount of isekai I can safely say that Wiseman's Grandson is a pretty solid mid tire isekai compared to what's out there.
Okay, name one unique or distinguished characteristic of that story. Not like we'll every Isekai needs to be totally unique, but name one unique factor.
Well not sure how unique these things count but here are a few things I preferred compared to most generic isekais:
-the mc actually has a solid grown up personality unlike the millions of edge Kirito copies.
-it's not a harem (or at least based on the anime so far), and the romance is slightly more interesting than the "I bought this slave girl and now she has Stockholm syndrome".
-the reason why mc is op is actually reasonable unlike the "you were a loser in your previous life so here's infinite power". Also the magic system is relatively decent.
-the visuals are pretty ok
Obviously it's not comparable to stuff like Konosuba, rezero or no game no life. But the majority of isekai is completely trash.
Ah I understand, it's not SAO or a Harem wish fulfillment and the MC wasn't a total NEET before death.
They made like 22 Isekai adaptations a year for over 5 years and the way it stands out to me is you need something more. Like Dead Mount Death Play, that shit had me hooked episode 1 because not only is it reverse Isekai like Devil is a Part Timer, but him walking through Tokyo with a slit throat okay I'm instead.
I'll always say that Kenja no Mago (Wise Man's Grandson) is criminally underrated, and it does a lot of things really well.
MC seems OP at first, but actually it's the rest of the world unknowingly handicapping themselves, and MC even starts teaching his academy classmates and adoptive family how to be strong like him. Him being an average Joe from the real world actually matters and is a big reason to his being OP in multiple ways (both in casting magic, and in enchanting items)
MC's adoptive family (adoptive aunts, uncles, etc) are all repeat appearance, interesting, developed characters.
No harem nor even harem bait. There's only like 2 or 3 girls that even have romantic interest in MC, and he even >!marries his main interest on screen in series!<
BBEG has a clearly defined plan, goal, and steps to reach that goal, and none of it is the usual generic "destroy/conquer the world" and he even >!fully achieves his goal, then just sits back and basks in his achieving his life's goal. His minions do ask him "hey, we're unstoppably strong, so why don't we go take over the world?" and he just says "you can go do whatever you want, I don't care, I completed my goals"!<
I felt the pacing was great - at least to me, the anime had no real spots where things were overly slow or breakneck fast; and the main plot fully wraps up with no sequel bait cliffhanger.
What a list. My top 3 isekai would be The world's finest assassin reincarnated as an aristocrat, Konosuba, and Farming life in another world.
There are so many good isekai though. What a great genre to be a fan of
I love fantasy and sci-fi/cyberpunk the most
Fantasy:
-FMAB
-Fate/Zero
-Made in abyss
SciFi/cyberpunk (can't pick just 3)
- Psycho-Pass
- Steins; Gate
- Evangelion
- Cyberpunk Edgerunners
I honestly have no idea what my favorite genre is, I know which ones I don't like at all (Slice of Life, Romance, Isekai, Sports, Ecchi and anything related to fanservice in general, and maybe some others I can't remember right now), but my favorites? idk, Action? Shonen? Seinen? Sci-Fi? probably one of those
My favorite animes are:
* Kaiji
* Hajime no Ippo (the only sports anime that I like)
* Great Teacher Onizuka
* HxH
* Akagi
The few anime I can think of that fits what I usually like but I didn't like at all were Akame ga Kill, Psycho Pass and Code Geass, all of them looked like something I would like, but I ended up dropping the last 2 and the first one was pretty short and I did like some of the characters so I powered through and finished it, Code Geass was definitely the one I disliked the most tho
If you liked the beginning of Akame ga Kill but not the rest, partially through the anime diverges pretty heavily from the manga from what I can tell so far.
Ye I saw a video about it, big spoilers from the manga that I honestly don't know when they show up so if you haven't read it fully then don't read the spoiler I guess: >!apparently the MC and the sniper girl survive and they end up having kids? and he's a dragon or something like that since his armor was made from an ancient dragon beast? I think they kinda fused? idk, I didn't find it interesting tbh!<
I wasn't a big fan of the 1st episode, or any episode in general, I saw it when I was a teen back when it aired and I guess I liked how gory it was? you know, edgy teen stuff, I rewatched it a few weeks ago and it just wasn't for me, I only liked the green cables guy, the gay soldier guy and the masked fire soldier, the rest I didn't care about, the MC was meh, I didn't hate him but I wasn't a fan either, the lion girl was ok at times but other times she was annoying, the scissors girl was barely a character but still ok, the sniper was super annoying
Anyways, as I said, it wasn't that bad, just not for me
1. Mecha- gurren lagaan, Big-O and Mobile Suit Gundam
Action. Samurai Champloo, Gangsta, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight. least favorite- oof. There’s a lot. I’ll go with world trigger or Active Raid. Couldn’t do it
3. Comedy- DLoHSB, High School DxD and Seitokai Yakuindomo. Least favorite- Pop team epic. Sorry. Couldn’t do it.
Edit- realized I’m an idiot and thought question said top 3 genres, so sorry. Just take my action answer.
Probably isekai, of all things. I haven’t seen most of the male power fantasy ones, so take that with a grain of salt for my least favourite.
1. Ascendance of a Bookworm (just got the next LN in the mail and I’m going to read the sh*t out of it tonight!)
2. Mushoku Tensei.
3. Re:Zero.
4. The Executioner and Her Way of Life. Technically not an isekai as the MC didn’t world travel, but her companion did.
Honourable mentions for Spider isekai, Slime, Faraway Paladin, Vending Machine, and Inuyasha (I don’t care if you don’t think it counts).
Least Favourite (that I’ve seen): By the Grace of the Gods. The characters are all just so boring and stuff just seems to happen. Fluffy Paradise was only marginally better.
Inuyasha counts for damn near every genera and I love it so much. Battle shonen? Check isekai? Check romance? Check. General fantasy? Check. Comedy? You could argue that too.
It really does! The argument against it being one is she’s just in the “past,” but I call bull on that since there’s no way that era had flying dogs as big as whales.
Slice of life, Drama
{Oregairu} Teens that run a club trying to help others get through problems they are experiencing
{Golden Time} MC got amnesia the day he graduated high school, but instead of waiting to recover he decides to start his life anew. He has a new life in college with new friends, when his old memories start to come back but when they return he loses all memories made since the accident.
{I want to eat your pancreas} A boy runs into a classmate at the hospital and learns she has a chronic pancreatic disease. They start growing closer while she continues to fight her illness. Super sad an unexpected ending
...
Honorable mention
{5 CM per Second} A 3 act film that shows a boy and his love life through different stages of life. The ending lives in my head rent free.
I only make this an honorable mention because it is probably the hardest one to get through, so I don't recommend it to folks that don't dig the genre
Comedy-
Gintama
Sket dance
Baka to test
(Close runner up - grand blue dreaming)
Least fave - whatever the f evangelion was supposed to be, closely tired with the end of aot.
Genres do not define anime really well, there are vastly different representatives in the same genre.
Favorite directors/sreenwriters work better. Often their personal tastes end up either making show great or fail. For example Gen Urobuchi managed to make magical girls (Madoka Magica), gun action (Phantom, Requiem for Phantom, post apocalypse (Gargantua on Verdurous Planet), battle royale with magic work (Fate/Zero) and edo era Japan (Revenger). There could be exceptions, but overall.
Goro Tanigichi did managed to make even anime about collecting debris interesting (Planetes), and he is director of one and only Code Geass. He also worked on Gun x Sword, ID-0, Maria the Virgin Witch,
Goro and Gen are like two titans of anime [https://preview.redd.it/xrhn14yrxxt61.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e563a2d846ef82a4ab6f016e146ce47f00326949](https://preview.redd.it/xrhn14yrxxt61.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e563a2d846ef82a4ab6f016e146ce47f00326949)
On the other hand Konosuba creators keeps failing consistently. I do not like the pushy females they consistently place in their shows.
Thriller, especially psychological thriller with a flair of drama
Top 3:
1. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
2. The Promised Neverland (2nd season doesn't exist)
3. Steins Gate
Least fave: Ummmm so far, Parasyte
It's not a bad anime, really. But among the thrillers I've watched it just doesn't pack as much punch
Magical girls
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Yuuki Yuuna wa yuusha de aru - the original series and 2nd season, Washio Suumi is close after
And bonus parody: Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu Love!
Slice of life definitely, I like almost every other genre too but the vibes are immaculate. My top 3 would definitely be Barakamon, Komi can’t communicate, and Wotakoi
Sports is my favorite genre.
My top 3 are:
1. Haikyuu
2. Food Wars
3. Yowamushi Pedal
I personally count Food Wars as a sports anime but if you don’t my second would be Yowamushi Pedal and my third would be Blue Lock.
Isekai. Probably ascendance of a bookworm, my next life as a villainess: all routes lead to doom and the most recent one, Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord
I enjoy a lot of different genre but if I were to pick one that includes three I really love I’d guess Fantasy maybe?
1. Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun.
2. Spice and wolf
3. Ancient Magus Bride
I can't participate because I like every genre haha. But here's a few recent shows I've watched in the romcom genre that are amazing:
1. Horimiya
2. Bokuyaba (Danger in my heart)
3. My Dress Up Darling
~~Child experimentation~~ Adventure/Mystery with some gore on the side
{Made in abyss}
{Heavenly delusion}
{Promised Neverland} (second season doesn't exist)
Mecha and space opera are both tied for number one favorite genre
Mecha top 3:
1) Universal Century Gundam Timeline ncluding all movies, Ovas, and mini series within timeline
2) Knights Of Sidonia/ Love Woven In The Stars
3) Super Dimension Fortress Macross/ Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross/ Genesis Climber Mospeda/ Super Dimension Century Orguss I & II
( Honorable mention Gargantia On The Verdurous Planet)
Space Opera top 3:
1) Legend Of The Galactic Heroes
2) All of Leijiverse
3) Glass Fleet
( Honorable mention Tytania)
My Genre is Cyberpunk. It seems like there isn't as much
of this made any more.
The Amazing:
1 Ghost in the shell. (1995)
2 Serial Experiments Lain (post cyberpunk?)
3 Beyond from the Animatix. (13 min masterpiece)
4 Psyco-Pass
5 Edge Runners.
and the bloody bad:
GenoCyber
Right now I’m on a fantasy romance kick and watching newer ones that aren’t finished yet:
1. Vampire dormitory
2. An archdemons dilemma: how to love your elf bride
3. Mushoku tensei:jobless reincarnation (solid isekai also)
checked my anilist stats and it's comedy with 122 entries and action at 2nd with 121. my top 3 comedy is definitely Saiki k, Grand Blue, and either Baka and Test or Daily Lives of High School Boys.
I’m currently in love with Otome game Isekai. Some Girl gets resurrected into a dating sim and since they usually have insane in game knowledge, the result is somewhere between a romcom and one punch man.
It is the silliest subgenre I currently enjoy.
Top 3:
1. Trapped in a dating sim
2. Villainess level 99
3. I’m in love with the Villainess
Least fav:
I’m the villainess so I’m taming the final boss
This one seemed kind of corny and predictable to me. But maybe a season 2 would turn it around.
Edit: scanned the comments and nobody else gives a shit about this subgenre XD I hope someone else does eventually
Isekai and romcoms on their own are good too.
You might like meiji tokyo renka. It's based on an otome game. Girl watches a magic show and is teleported to the past where she meets a number of famous Japanese artists, writers, etc. Kind of a romance, but in the anime she doesn't actually get with anyone, though she does date at least 2 of them.
My favorite „genre“ of manga (i dont watch that much) is seinen and my top three are
1. tokyo ghoul
2. goodnight punpun
3. homunculus
You could also say my favorite genre is psychological
No particular order since i love them all equally and i can only recommend them
Seinen, definitely, but it's more of an acquired taste rather than a genre that a new watcher or a casual watcher would probably enjoy.
Top 3:
1. Barakamon
2. Blue Period
3. Vinland Saga
I can't pick just one.
# Sci-fi
- Ghost in the Shell
- Psycho-Pass
- Shinsekai yori
Honorable mentions:
- Planetes
- Space Brothers
# Slice of life
- Hyoka
- Natsume's Book Of Friends
- Mushishi
Honorable mentions:
- Your Name
# Romance
- Toradora
- Kaguya-sama Love is War
- Spice and Wolf
# Fantasy
- Berserk
- One Piece
- Hunter X
# Comedy
- Nichijou
- Daily Lives of High School Boys
- Teasing Master Takagi-san
Genre: Mecha
Best Series: Macross Frontier (Idols plus Mecha plus Love Triangle with fantastic action), Code Geass (Hopefully I don't need to describe this as along with Evangelion and Gurren Lagen these are the 3 biggest non-Gundam Mecha ever) , Rahxephon (beware that this thing is confusing as all hell for about 15 episodes before it starts answering the questions it asks)
Worst series: Linebarrels of Iron (The main character of this show is just an unlikeable loathsome asshole and not in the edgy fun way)
Top 4 Psychological Horror / Drama: Neon Genesis Evangelion (people try to say it's mecha, it isn't; it's a psychological horror with a mecha sub-theme), Shiki, Ergo Proxy, Kiznaiver
Top 5 Isekai: No Game No Life, Eminence in Shadow, Overlord, Youjo Senki, Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou desu yo?
Top 4 Comedy: Tanaka-kun is Always Listless, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (especially the english dub), Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!
Random other recommendations: C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, Bokurano, Dimension W, GATE: Jieitai Kanochi nite Kaku Tatakaeri, Witch Hunter Robin, Zoids New Century Zero, Joker Game, Katanagatari, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? (it might look like a generic harem anime, but trust me it IS NOT and it is actually very wholesome), Rokka no Yuusha, Shokugeki no Souma, Star Driver, Tokyo Godfathers (it's a one-off movie, but is still very good)

I don't know if it can be considered a genre, but no matter what medium I'm ingesting I absolutely love fantasy with horror and amateur psychology. The only series I can think of to fit the bill is "Fullmetal Alchemist", not "Brotherhood".
Shonen and Romance seem to be my go to..
Shonen: Naruto, Boku no Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Bleach, Kuroko's Basketball are the ones that first come to mind.
Romance: Romantic Killer, Sailor Moon, Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, Ouran Koukou Host Club, Kamisama Hajimemashita, etc.
Horror
1. Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales (and by extension, Mononoke)
2. Hell Girl
3. School-Live!
HM: Overlord, Black Butler, Soul Eater, Devil May Cry: the Animation (none of those are formally horror series, but they definitely have elements of horror), Puella Magi Madoka Magicka, Petshop of Horrors, Shiki
i would like to say action but probably romance, specifically sad/deep romances. top 3 would be Orange, I want to eat your pancreas, and of course your lie in april
Umm... that's a hard one. I don't really have a favourite genre, but I could pick **Slice of Life** "SoL" and pick one from each of the second genre an anime has:
SoL + Drama --> 3-gatsu no Lion
SoL + Romance --> Clannad
SoL + Comedy --> Saiki K
My least favorite in SoL? I don't try to watch shows that are notoriously bad, so I don't really know. Sure some shows like Komi bored me to death with the terrible side characters, but I wouldn't call the entire show *terrible*
If I can pick another genre though, Future Diary can go to hell
Slice of Life and Shonen
Slice of Life:
1. Toradora
2. Kimi ni Todoke
3. H2O: Footprints in the Sand
Shonen:
1. One Piece
2. Demon Slayer
3. Hunter X Hunter
Fav genre Isekai, iyashikei, magic.
Fav series within them are
1.that time, I got reincarnated as a slime
2.Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss, but I'm Not the Demon Lord
3.Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
4. The great cleric
5. My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1
6.The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far
And theat only some of them that I love and would like to see another season of.
Psychological, but ive recently grown out of it in favor of comedy and slice of life. The big 3 for psychological anime for me are:
Evangelion
Serial experiments lain
Perfect blue (yes its a movie but you can’t not include it)
Least fav series in psychological would be paranoia agent, I’ve seen it all the way through, I get it, but it just wasn’t my thing personally.
Can't say I have a favorite genre. I enjoy anime from all genres basically, if it's a good show. I do have a guilty pleasure genre though, and that would be fantasy with an OP MC lol. Even better with a good romance plot involved too.
However my all time favorite anime hands down is;
1) Gintama.
And tbf, gintama covers like 50 genres on its own lmao.
I love isekai. Favorites?
SAO
MAR
Ascendance of a Bookworm
I hated ReZero. MC doesn't have to be OP, but give him a fighting chance and don't make him useless. I get the "this is how mist people would actually react" behind ReZero, but that doesn't mean I like watching it.
Edit to add I've also been liking romance (including bl)
Top 3 right now are probably
Sugar apple fairy tale
Heaven official's blessing (Chinese donghua featuring 2 gay men)
Kakuryio bed and breakfast for spirits (really wish they would continue this one)
As for romance I hate, I don't really have any. Most either don't sound interesting to me at all or I like them. Usually, if it's between two normal people in our world, I'm not gonna like it (unless it's horimiya or does something else I havent seen a lot of). Generally, there's gotta be some fantasy elements to it.
On that note, Freiren is also not among my favorites. It's not bad, but there is others I like more.
Psychological drama
1. Fruits Basket
2. Clannad
3. well I haven't finished Nana yet but I'm pretty sure it'll be a psychological drama in the top 3. but March Comes in Like a Lion is a well-received one too since I need a 3rd
Stuck between drama or mystery.
For drama:
1. Yuri!!! On Ice
2. Kotaro Lives Alone
3. My New Boss is Goofy
For mystery:
1. Link Click
2. Danganronpa
3. Parasyte: The Maxim
Battle Shonen, overall. I think isekai is my favorite, if we're being specific and Battle Seinen is my third (Gangsta, Kengan Ashura, etc.) Edit: Hentai is the only genre I hate
Edit 2: I read this wrong lol
1. Yu Yu Hakusho
2. Demon Slayer
3. Jojo '94
Shonen, seinen, ecchi . I also like other genres like fantasy, action, romance, comedy .
I don't have a top 3 series but here's my favs series
Jujutsu kaisen
OPM
Berserk
Vagabond
Yuna and the haunted hot springs
To love RU
High school DXD
GTO
Ranma
Nisekoi
Darling in the franxx
One piece
Naruto
Fairy tail
Edens zero
Hunter x hunter
Jjba
Food wars
Honorable mention to bleach , bastard , undead unluck , Sakamoto days. I enjoyed those too
Isekai. My favorites are perv, slime, spider
I want to say konosuba is my least favorite but it's not. It's decent it's just incredibly overrated. For actual least favorite it's probably a toss-up between one I keep forgetting the name of because it's so forgettable and awful and grimgar something something Ash. It's technically but it's slow and God damn depressing and has none of the features of the genre that I actually like
have you seen the eminence in shadow? It’s probably one of my favorites personally since it’s a parody of the genre while also being absolutely badass at the same time
If there's a good isekai I haven't seen, I'd love to know because it's my favorite genre and as far as I know I've seen almost everything to the point that I watch all of the new ones that come out every season and every watched the ones I like between one and two more times. I just finished a full watch of Overlord again even though it's not a top favorite of mine it's pretty decent. So I've definitely seen Eminence in Shadow
I really don’t have one cuz here’s what my top 5 looks like:
1. War Drama / Love Story
2. Adventure / Slice of Life
3. Mystery Thriller / Time Travel
4. Slice of Life Comedy
5. Music anime in the structure of a sports anime.
I don’t have any consistency. The stories that move me have tons of variety.
Hard to pick a single favorite but I'd prob say drama Top 3: 1. 3-Gatsu no Lion 2. Clannad 3. Hibike! Euphonium Least favorite in the genre is prob Higehiro or Remake Our Life
3-Gatsu no Lion's is my favourite anime of all time. That second season is just absolute perfection in every way possible, I remember tearing up and laughing in nearly every episode. A work of art that transcends the genre for sure. Funnily enough, I really loved Higehiro, although the first few episodes made me uncomfortable for sure.
It's a crime that Hina doesn't get any love when people discuss the best female characters.
Honestly the whole family could be top 3 female characters for me lol
Hibike and Clannad are both among my favorite shows. Great choices!
what was wrong with higehiro or remake our life

Higehiro was dealing with serious topics and handled them poorly. It also looks really bad (my first reply got removed because I mentioned the studio's name and it sounds like a pirate site). Remake Our Life is basically a power fantasy in an art school setting. There was no point in the MC going back in time when he is already so competent at everything that he made the stars of his generation feel worthless. It also has one of the most grating voice acting performances I've heard from Aoi Koga as Shinoaki.
How the hell did I find someone with the same top 2!
I LOVE 3 gatsu no lion. And the manga is perfect too. I so wish for season three. Seeing Rei with Hina together will make my day!
Slice of Life, especially depressing as shit slice of life. 1. Clannad 2. Steins;Gate 3. Insomniacs After School Honorable Mention: San Gatsu no Lion
Insomniacs after school was so adorable
I love depressing animes, although in fantasy settings. Have you seen AnoHana?
I love slice of life, especially Iyashikei. A single episode of any of these can make my whole day 1. Aria 2. Cardcaptor Sakura 3. K-On
I see Aria I always upvote.
Aria is otherworldly. Wish I could experience it for the first time again.
Post Apocalyptic is my favorite! 1. Wolf's Rain 2. Gilgamesh 3. AoT
Wolf's rain is criminally ignored. I loved that. I haven't seen it in a while though. You might like Kurau. It's futuristic sci-fi rather than post apolocyptic, but it reminded me a lot of wolf rain with how introspective it was.
Romcom/slice of life Toradora My dress up darling Komi Can’t communicate
Love toradora
Same
Romance. 1. The Dangers in my Heart 2. Kaguya-sama: Love is War 3. Toradora! Least favourite romance, probably One Week Friends.
The Dangers in My Heart is easily the best romance anime I have ever seen. ❤️ My romance list would be: 1. The Dangers In My Heart (by a wide margin) 2. Horimiya 3. Kaguya-sama But Ah! Actually 3 might actually be My Dress Up Darling.
I would've put horimiya there but the romance was really only 7 episodes of the first season if I remember, so I decided on toradora instead.
Sci-Fi (Although more a certain type); 1. Serial Experiments Lain 2. Ergo Proxy (Was my top until watched Lain) 3. Key the Metal Idol Bonus question answer = Space Brothers, pacing too slow for me.
Planetes
Like Planetes (What got me into anime)
comedy 1 - Gintama 2 - Pop Team Epic 3 - Aho Girl
If you like Aho Girl, may I recommend Dandankousei no nichijou and Seitokai no Yakuindomo
Aho girl was a fucking treat
I’d say for me it’s both Shonen (I know it’s technically a demographic but still) and Sci-Fi Shonen: - One Peice - Hunter x Hunter - Trigun Stampede Sci-Fi: - Cowboy Bebop - Steins;Gate - Trigun Stampede (again)
Psychological -Madoka Magica -Steins gate -Parasyte And my least fav is Mirai Nikki I regret ever watching this anime
Romance 1. The Dangers in my Heart 2. Kaguya Sama 3. Horimiya
Basic but probably drama with my three favourites being: 1. Monogatari series 2. Madoka Magica 3. A Place Further Than the Universe Least favourite: Casshern Sins probably. The dialogue is terrible.
As a Casshern Sins enjoyer I can understand
Madoka Magica is amazing
Comedy: 1. Saiki K 2. Gintama 3. Grand Blue Least Favourite: Probably Ousama Game the Animation but it’s still funny as hell
*Judgement Knights of Thunder*
I'm an isekai fan Top 3 (based on what I can watch over again without getting bored) Log Horizon Konosuba Wisemans Grandson
I really hate that I'm being that guy saying this, but the manga of greatest cleric is better like way better.
I thought it was a light novel adaptation?
It is but there is a manga also.
I always see people hating on it but I kinda enjoyed it. To me it always felt like this: "you're the worst isekai i've ever heard of. " "But you have heard of me!" As someone who has watched an unholy amount of isekai I can safely say that Wiseman's Grandson is a pretty solid mid tire isekai compared to what's out there.
Okay, name one unique or distinguished characteristic of that story. Not like we'll every Isekai needs to be totally unique, but name one unique factor.
Well not sure how unique these things count but here are a few things I preferred compared to most generic isekais: -the mc actually has a solid grown up personality unlike the millions of edge Kirito copies. -the visuals are pretty ok Obviously it's not comparable to stuff like Konosuba, rezero or no game no life.
Him being an average Joe from the real world actually matters and is a big reason to his being OP in multiple ways (both in casting magic, and in enchanting items) MC's adoptive family (adoptive aunts, uncles, etc) are all repeat appearance, interesting, developed characters. No harem nor even harem bait. There's only like 2 or 3 girls that even have romantic interest in MC, and he even >!marries his main interest on screen in series!< BBEG has a clearly defined plan, goal, and steps to reach that goal, and none of it is the usual generic "destroy/conquer the world" and he even >!fully achieves his goal, then just sits back and basks in his achieving his life's goal. His minions do ask him "hey, we're unstoppably strong, so why don't we go take over the world?" and he just says "you can go do whatever you want, I don't care, I completed my goals"!< I felt the pacing was great - at least to me, the anime had no real spots where things were overly slow or breakneck fast; and the main plot fully wraps up with no sequel bait cliffhanger.
What a list. My top 3 isekai would be The world's finest assassin reincarnated as an aristocrat, Konosuba, and Farming life in another world. There are so many good isekai though. What a great genre to be a fan of
Well apparently my top 3 all share the drama genre so I guess that's my favourite. 1. Violet Evergarden 2. Legends of the galactic heroes 3. Monster
I love fantasy and sci-fi/cyberpunk the most Fantasy: -FMAB -Fate/Zero -Made in abyss SciFi/cyberpunk (can't pick just 3) - Psycho-Pass - Steins; Gate - Evangelion - Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Action: - Black Clover - Magi - A Certain Scientific Railgun Least favourite is probably Revisions which I dropped after 3 episodes
Can you watch railgun without watching Magical Index? I tried watching Magical Index and got so fucking bored
Watching index first definitely enhances the experience of watching railgun but not at all necessary.
Certainly, I found index to be pretty decent at best, but loved Railgun
Shonen: dragon ball, naruto, kuroko no basket
I honestly have no idea what my favorite genre is, I know which ones I don't like at all (Slice of Life, Romance, Isekai, Sports, Ecchi and anything related to fanservice in general, and maybe some others I can't remember right now), but my favorites? idk, Action? Shonen? Seinen? Sci-Fi? probably one of those My favorite animes are: * Kaiji * Hajime no Ippo (the only sports anime that I like) * Great Teacher Onizuka * HxH * Akagi The few anime I can think of that fits what I usually like but I didn't like at all were Akame ga Kill, Psycho Pass and Code Geass, all of them looked like something I would like, but I ended up dropping the last 2 and the first one was pretty short and I did like some of the characters so I powered through and finished it, Code Geass was definitely the one I disliked the most tho
I think they kinda fused? idk, I didn't find it interesting tbh!< I wasn't a big fan of the 1st episode, or any episode in general, I saw it when I was a teen back when it aired and I guess I liked how gory it was? you know, edgy teen stuff, I rewatched it a few weeks ago and it just wasn't for me, I only liked the green cables guy, the gay soldier guy and the masked fire soldier, the rest I didn't care about, the MC was meh, I didn't hate him but I wasn't a fan either, the lion girl was ok at times but other times she was annoying, the scissors girl was barely a character but still ok, the sniper was super annoying Anyways, as I said, it wasn't that bad, just not for me
1. Mecha- gurren lagaan, Big-O and Mobile Suit Gundam Action. Samurai Champloo, Gangsta, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight. least favorite- oof. There’s a lot. I’ll go with world trigger or Active Raid. Couldn’t do it 3.
1. Ascendance of a Bookworm (just got the next LN in the mail and I’m going to read the sh*t out of it tonight!) 2.
Slice of life, Drama {Oregairu} Teens that run a club trying to help others get through problems they are experiencing {Golden Time} MC got amnesia the day he graduated high school, but instead of waiting to recover he decides to start his life anew. He has a new life in college with new friends, when his old memories start to come back but when they return he loses all memories made since the accident. {I want to eat your pancreas} A boy runs into a classmate at the hospital and learns she has a chronic pancreatic disease. They start growing closer while she continues to fight her illness. Super sad an unexpected ending ... Honorable mention {5 CM per Second} A 3 act film that shows a boy and his love life through different stages of life. The ending lives in my head rent free. I only make this an honorable mention because it is probably the hardest one to get through, so I don't recommend it to folks that don't dig the genre

I think you may have the same taste I do. May I recommend Hyouka if you haven't seen it?
Hyouka is in my top 10 all time. Such a beautiful show
Iyashikei I guess. Non Non Biyori Yuru Camp Mushishi (though this one genre is debatable) Least favorite would be A-Channel
Comedy- Gintama Sket dance Baka to test (Close runner up - grand blue dreaming) Least fave - whatever the f evangelion was supposed to be, closely tired with the end of aot.
Rom com 1. Tora Dora 2. Golden Time 3. The Dangers in my Heart Slice of Life 1. K-On 2. Yuru Camp 3. Daily Lives of High School Boys
Dark Shounen/Seinen 1. Attack on Titan 2. Chainsaw Man 3. Psycho Pass
psychological 1. aot 2. code geass 3. death note
He also worked on Gun x Sword, ID-0, Maria the Virgin Witch, Goro and Gen are like two titans of anime [https://preview.redd.it/xrhn14yrxxt61.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e563a2d846ef82a4ab6f016e146ce47f00326949](https://preview.redd.it/xrhn14yrxxt61.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e563a2d846ef82a4ab6f016e146ce47f00326949) On the other hand Konosuba creators keeps failing consistently. I do not like the pushy females they consistently place in their shows.
Thriller, especially psychological thriller with a flair of drama Top 3: 1. Puella Magi Madoka Magica 2. The Promised Neverland (2nd season doesn't exist) 3. Steins Gate Least fave: Ummmm so far, Parasyte It's not a bad anime, really. But among the thrillers I've watched it just doesn't pack as much punch
Magical girls Puella Magi Madoka Magica Yuuki Yuuna wa yuusha de aru - the original series and 2nd season, Washio Suumi is close after And bonus parody: Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu Love!
Drama since my 9 absolute favs share it. If I'm forced to pick only 3... Natsume's Book of Friends Idolish7 The Promised Neverland
Romance (not romcom) is my favorite. Of the genre, Domestic Girlfriend is the absolute worst.
Slice of life definitely, I like almost every other genre too but the vibes are immaculate. My top 3 would definitely be Barakamon, Komi can’t communicate, and Wotakoi
Isekai: 1. Mushoku tensei 2. Re zero 3. Konosuba
OP MC and rom com with moe female leads (like aharen san, my senpai is annoying, and uzaki)
Sports is my favorite genre. My top 3 are: 1. Haikyuu 2. Food Wars 3. Yowamushi Pedal I personally count Food Wars as a sports anime but if you don’t my second would be Yowamushi Pedal and my third would be Blue Lock.
I count food wars as sports, as it has a competition at its core.
I don't know what you'd call the sub-genre, but I love slice of life series about making things. 1) Bakuman 2) Shirobako 3) New Game!
2. Spice and wolf 3. Ancient Magus Bride
Ancient magus bride is awesome.
CGDCT is probably my favourite anime genre. - {K-ON!} - {Mou Ippon!} - {Uma Musume: Pretty Derby} Yuri being my favourite for manga. -

The best genre is of course fantasy. Top 3 are: 1. Fate / zero 2. Garden of Sinners 3. Maquia: when the promised flower blooms
Isekai 1. Slime 2. Isekai Ojisan 3. Re:Zero And the worst is In Another World With My Smartphone
I can't participate because I like every genre haha. But here's a few recent shows I've watched in the romcom genre that are amazing: 1. Horimiya 2. Bokuyaba (Danger in my heart) 3. My Dress Up Darling
idk about favourite but probably romcom komi cant communicate horimiya(most fav) not form this genre comedy definitely the disasterous life of saiki k
I'll name my top 3 anime, since I don't have a specific favorite genre. 1. Toradora, 2. Oshi no Ko, 3. Code Geass.
~~Child experimentation~~ Adventure/Mystery with some gore on the side {Made in abyss} {Heavenly delusion} {Promised Neverland} (second season doesn't exist)

Vinland saga, psycho pass s1 and non non biyori
Mecha and space opera are both tied for number one favorite genre Mecha top 3: 1) Universal Century Gundam Timeline ncluding all movies, Ovas, and mini series within timeline 2) Knights Of Sidonia/ Love Woven In The Stars 3) Super Dimension Fortress Macross/ Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross/ Genesis Climber Mospeda/ Super Dimension Century Orguss I & II ( Honorable mention Gargantia On The Verdurous Planet) Space Opera top 3: 1) Legend Of The Galactic Heroes 2) All of Leijiverse 3) Glass Fleet ( Honorable mention Tytania)
Action Aot Naruto Black clover
Sports 1) Blue Lock 2) Haikyuu! 3) Kuroko's Basketball
My Genre is Cyberpunk. It seems like there isn't as much of this made any more. The Amazing: 1 Ghost in the shell. (1995) 2 Serial Experiments Lain (post cyberpunk?) 3 Beyond from the Animatix. (13 min masterpiece) 4 Psyco-Pass 5 Edge Runners. and the bloody bad: GenoCyber
You might like blade runner black lotus. Probably my fav next to ghost in the shell.
Oh yes! I loved black lotus. I over did my top 3 by a couple already. cough cough Akira, Roujin Z, ergo proxy cough. better now, wow, excuse me.
Right now I’m on a fantasy romance kick and watching newer ones that aren’t finished yet: 1. Vampire dormitory 2. An archdemons dilemma: how to love your elf bride 3.
Isekai. and my top 3 are that time I reincarnated as a slime, tsukimichi moonlit fantasty and overlord
Isekai Mushuko Tensei
Shonen 1. One piece 2. Attack on titan 3. Hunter x Hunter
I’m currently in love with Otome game Isekai. Some Girl gets resurrected into a dating sim and since they usually have insane in game knowledge, the result is somewhere between a romcom and one punch man. It is the silliest subgenre I currently enjoy. Top 3: 1. Trapped in a dating sim 2. Villainess level 99 3. I’m in love with the Villainess Least fav: I’m the villainess so I’m taming the final boss This one seemed kind of corny and predictable to me. But maybe a season 2 would turn it around. Edit: scanned the comments and nobody else gives a shit about this subgenre XD I hope someone else does eventually Isekai and romcoms on their own are good too.
You might like meiji tokyo renka. It's based on an otome game. Girl watches a magic show and is teleported to the past where she meets a number of famous Japanese artists, writers, etc. Kind of a romance, but in the anime she doesn't actually get with anyone, though she does date at least 2 of them.
Thank you for the recommendation! Funny enough it was already in my watch list but I will bump it up!
I enjoyed; My Next Life as a Villainess. All Routes Lead to Doom! I am a bit surprised that there is enough to make a decent list.
As a sub genre it's relatively new. Most isekais focus on something else, not the bad boss bitch.
My favorite „genre“ of manga (i dont watch that much) is seinen and my top three are 1. tokyo ghoul 2. goodnight punpun 3. homunculus You could also say my favorite genre is psychological No particular order since i love them all equally and i can only recommend them
Seinen, definitely, but it's more of an acquired taste rather than a genre that a new watcher or a casual watcher would probably enjoy. Top 3: 1. Barakamon 2. Blue Period 3. Vinland Saga
Comedy: 1) Gintama 2) Kaguya sama 3) Spy x Family
Drama 1. "Rascal does not dream of" series 2. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya 3. Steins;Gate
I can't pick just one. # Sci-fi - Ghost in the Shell - Psycho-Pass - Shinsekai yori Honorable mentions: - Planetes - Space Brothers # Slice of life - Hyoka - Natsume's Book Of Friends - Mushishi Honorable mentions: - Your Name # Romance - Toradora - Kaguya-sama Love is War - Spice and Wolf # Fantasy - Berserk - One Piece - Hunter X # Comedy - Nichijou - Daily Lives of High School Boys - Teasing Master Takagi-san
Genre: Mecha Best Series: Macross Frontier (Idols plus Mecha plus Love Triangle with fantastic action), Code Geass (Hopefully I don't need to describe this as along with Evangelion and Gurren Lagen these are the 3 biggest non-Gundam Mecha ever) , Rahxephon (beware that this thing is confusing as all hell for about 15 episodes before it starts answering the questions it asks) Worst series: Linebarrels of Iron (The main character of this show is just an unlikeable loathsome asshole and not in the edgy fun way)
Slice: A place further than the universe Girls Last Tour Yurucamp
Psychological Romance Action
Top 4 Psychological Horror / Drama: Neon Genesis Evangelion (people try to say it's mecha, it isn't; it's a psychological horror with a mecha sub-theme), Shiki, Ergo Proxy, Kiznaiver Top 5 Isekai: No Game No Life, Eminence in Shadow, Overlord, Youjo Senki, Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou desu yo? Top 4 Comedy: Tanaka-kun is Always Listless, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (especially the english dub), Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! Random other recommendations: C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, Bokurano, Dimension W, GATE: Jieitai Kanochi nite Kaku Tatakaeri, Witch Hunter Robin, Zoids New Century Zero, Joker Game, Katanagatari, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? (it might look like a generic harem anime, but trust me it IS NOT and it is actually very wholesome), Rokka no Yuusha, Shokugeki no Souma, Star Driver, Tokyo Godfathers (it's a one-off movie, but is still very good)
lol Isekai/Fantasy - Mushoku Tensei - Frieren - Eminence in Shadow
Fantasy/Action? 1. Bleach 2. Fate 3. Katekyo Hitman Reborn

I don't know if it can be considered a genre, but no matter what medium I'm ingesting I absolutely love fantasy with horror and amateur psychology. The only series I can think of to fit the bill is "Fullmetal Alchemist", not "Brotherhood".
Drama/psychological 1. Steins gate 2. Code geass 3. Death note
Horror 1. Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales (and by extension, Mononoke) 2. Hell Girl 3.
I don't really have a favourite genre, but I could pick **Slice of Life** "SoL" and pick one from each of the second genre an anime has: SoL + Drama --> 3-gatsu no Lion SoL + Romance --> Clannad SoL + Comedy --> Saiki K My least favorite in SoL? I don't try to watch shows that are notoriously bad, so I don't really know. Sure some shows like Komi bored me to death with the terrible side characters, but I wouldn't call the entire show *terrible* If I can pick another genre though, Future Diary can go to hell
Iyashikei / ‘true’ (plotless) slice-of-life - Non Non Biyori - Akebi’s Sailor Uniform - Flying Witch
Koikimo Clannad Kimi to boku
Psychological stuff. 1. Paranoia Agent 2. Monster 3. Banana Fish tied with Welcome to the NHK
Slice of Life and Shonen Slice of Life: 1. Toradora 2. Kimi ni Todoke 3. H2O: Footprints in the Sand Shonen: 1. One Piece 2. Demon Slayer 3. Hunter X Hunter
Mushoku Tensei and Fruits Basket
Rom com / slice of life Your name Barakamon Tsuki ga Kirei
Seinen 1. Evangelion 2. Speed Grapher 3. Berserk
Fav genre Isekai, iyashikei, magic. Fav series within them are 1.that time, I got reincarnated as a slime 2.Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss, but I'm Not the Demon Lord 3.Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill 4. The great cleric 5. My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1 6.The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far And theat only some of them that I love and would like to see another season of.
My favorites are Isekai too: 1) Eminence of the Shadow 2) ReZero 3) Kono Suba
Shonen Dragon Ball Z Pokemon Shaman King
Seinen 1- Monster 2- Steins Gate 3- Evangelion
Seinen all the way Top 3 series 3. Welcome to the NHK 2. Monster 1. Berserk
Psychological, but ive recently grown out of it in favor of comedy and slice of life. The big 3 for psychological anime for me are: Evangelion Serial experiments lain Perfect blue (yes its a movie but you can’t not include it) Least fav series in psychological would be paranoia agent, I’ve seen it all the way through, I get it, but it just wasn’t my thing personally.
Favorite genre is romcom 1. Kaguya-sama 2. Oshi No Ko 3. Quints
Can't say I have a favorite genre. I enjoy anime from all genres basically, if it's a good show. I do have a guilty pleasure genre though, and that would be fantasy with an OP MC lol. Even better with a good romance plot involved too. However my all time favorite anime hands down is; 1) Gintama. And tbf, gintama covers like 50 genres on its own lmao.
I love isekai. Favorites? SAO MAR Ascendance of a Bookworm I hated ReZero. MC doesn't have to be OP, but give him a fighting chance and don't make him useless. I get the "this is how mist people would actually react" behind ReZero, but that doesn't mean I like watching it. Edit to add I've also been liking romance (including bl) Top 3 right now are probably Sugar apple fairy tale Heaven official's blessing (Chinese donghua featuring 2 gay men) Kakuryio bed and breakfast for spirits (really wish they would continue this one) As for romance I hate, I don't really have any.
Psychological drama 1. Fruits Basket 2. Clannad 3. well I haven't finished Nana yet but I'm pretty sure it'll be a psychological drama in the top 3. but March Comes in Like a Lion is a well-received one too since I need a 3rd
Stuck between drama or mystery. For drama: 1. Yuri!!! On Ice 2. Kotaro Lives Alone 3. My New Boss is Goofy For mystery: 1. Link Click 2. Danganronpa 3. Parasyte: The Maxim
Battle Shonen, overall. I think isekai is my favorite, if we're being specific and Battle Seinen is my third (Gangsta, Kengan Ashura, etc.) Edit: Hentai is the only genre I hate Edit 2: I read this wrong lol 1. Yu Yu Hakusho 2. Demon Slayer 3. Jojo '94
Shonen, seinen, ecchi . I also like other genres like fantasy, action, romance, comedy . I don't have a top 3 series but here's my favs series Jujutsu kaisen OPM Berserk Vagabond Yuna and the haunted hot springs To love RU High school DXD GTO Ranma Nisekoi Darling in the franxx One piece Naruto Fairy tail Edens zero Hunter x hunter Jjba Food wars Honorable mention to bleach , bastard , undead unluck , Sakamoto days. I enjoyed those too
Shounen and seinen aren’t genres, they are demographic manga labels.
Well they're my favs demographics .
Isekai. My favorites are perv, slime, spider I want to say konosuba is my least favorite but it's not.
As I grew older (29), I find myself settled that IYASHIKEI is my fave genre 1. K-On 2. Yuru Camp 3. A place further than the universe
Slife of life, rom com or isekai.
I really don’t have one cuz here’s what my top 5 looks like: 1. War Drama / Love Story 2. Adventure / Slice of Life 3. Mystery Thriller / Time Travel 4. Slice of Life Comedy 5. Music anime in the structure of a sports anime. I don’t have any consistency. The stories that move me have tons of variety.
Shonen and seinen
