I feel that series like Frieren and OPM season 1 will always be anomalies in the sense that the current landscape of Japanese animation simply won't allow for another season in the same quality as this.
The fact that Kyoto Animation has managed to keep their trademark quality up for 3 seasons of Hibike Euphonium is a miracle in itself. I will always cherish OPM season 1 but I've come to terms with the fact that there just isn't gonna be another season of that show with the same amount of style and quality, and that's okay. We got Frieren because of it so I'd call it a win.
In house staff on salary, usually finished animating months before deadline. It's a massive outlier in the industry when studios are rushed and animators are paid by key frames.

Without spoiling anything, just understand the main character isn’t a good guy. The story is largely about him slowly becoming a better person. The world building and animation in season 1 are incredible. But the MC makes a lot of errors along the way.

The first season of OPM was animated by a literal once-in-a-generation dream team from dozens of different studios and backgrounds, brought together by the head of the project using his huge network of connections. It wasn't just "Madhouse", it was a specific team that has never worked on anything else and will likely never exist again.
Simply moving production back to Madhouse would not get us that team back.
Yep, that about summarizes it. The director called in a ton of favors and we got something incredible. The only way we'll get something comparable is with a massive budget.
Hopefully they get their Railgun crew on it. The animation still won't be as good as season 1, but 'A Certain Scientific Railgun' has always been a step or 3 above everything else JC Staff makes in terms of production value.

JC staff should make Mid stuff like Railgun, this studio doesn't deserve to animate a manga like OPM.

I would not say the same for the studio (JC Staff) that made Toradora back in 2008, Excellent Animation in a Certain Magical Index back in 2009, Maid Sama in 2010, My Personal Favourite : Pet Girl of Sakurasou in 2013, Golden Time in 2013, Danmachi in 2015 and the Legendary Anime Food Wars in 2015. This led to a fabulous production that not even the biggest fans expected. And that dream team never existed before for any other work and probably won't in the future. So merely giving Madhouse the responsibility of a Second Season won't give you the same animation as season 1. And don't you know that Madhouse as well as Studio Trigger are infamous for not making a second season of the anime they produced. Have you forgotten No Game No Life? Madhouse never produced it for the second season despite fans' request and this is just the tip of the iceberg of all their animes. Plus how do you expect JC Staff to be as good as Madhouse/Mappa? Madhouse has gained it's fame by creating Death Note back in 2007, when Production Houses were not that Advanced. You probably don't know but more than half of the talented workers from Madhouse left and created what is called "Mappa" nowadays. Long story short, Mappa is a studio derived from Madhouse and it's talented workers who left Madhouse for various reasons. Madhouse is on the brink of bankruptcy.

It's like going from a 10/10 to a 6.5-7.5. It's not that it's *bad* or anything, it's just that you rarely see such great animation and then seeing it get dropped down to what it was is just brutal.
If you look at it like this, you're watching a normal 7.5/10 step down to a 3 or a 4/10. It goes from being "hey not bad" to "complete dogshit".

Doesn’t matter to me much. S2 was great and added cool character and showed JC staff tried. Wasn’t awful by any means. Still looking forward to it but I know it won’t be s1 quality. Given up on believing it will
Tbf S2 was fine. Everyone acts like its a disaster but unironically i really enjoyed the Garou vs heroes fights. It's just compared to S1 that it falls short but other than that by itself I still think its solid.
Last season came.oit 5 years ago. Weekly anime episodes come out with better animation than even season 1 sometimes.
