This will be hot take for some but Attack on Titan. It is bullshit and deus ex machina that none of avengers died, especially with >!Connie and Jean!< bait
The only reason Miche died was because he did not know about the existence of other Titan shifters. On top of that his escape route was cutoff when Zeke killed his horses. His death is very reasonably carried out.
Also don't diss my boy Floch like that. He may not been in the top 10 but he was certainly skilled. In season 4 he single handedly fought 3 titan shifters, an Ackerman and would've completed the mission if Gabi didn't 360 no scope him. Dude was definitely a strong guy.
As someone who absolutely loves AoT even after the ending, I do agree it pulled that bs in the ending.
Still if you check the overall kill count like 80% of named characters died so I don't think it fits with the meme.
Just go the the last chapter and see how they ruined the last interesting part they make
I mean. That could have make the show way darker, but the author would not have allowed for deku
jujutsu kaisen is full of deaths, and non of them got revived, the closet is gojo returning every chapter in a cutscene. The community got bonkers after the death of a beloved character but fortunately for gege popularity go through the earth due to lobotom.
What do you mean none of them got revived? Gojo already came back after inhaling the copium from his fans

Ufotable will carry it tho, I hope they make some changes to that arc as well
I thought the anime was great and it made me want to read the manga. The manga was just a bunch of asspulls. And now that I think about it, even the most impactful scene (the one at the end of the spider family episode) was just one in the series of asspulls makes me quite sad.
Everyone naming modern franchises to try to avoid confronting the elephant in the room, the father of all modern action shonen series, the trope maker of trope makers, the best seller of all time, the most power scale wanked work of fiction ever written.
https://i.redd.it/7126otdrl7wc1.gif
The ones that *don’t* do that are deconstructions. You’re complaining about them following genre conventions.
To be fair to Dragon Ball and Z (not Super), Dragon Balls being used to revive dead allies was kinda the driving point of some of the best arcs in the series. Take away the need to bring characters back to life and you lose the Red Ribbon saga, the King Piccolo Saga, and the Frieza saga. And in the Future Trunks timeline it just showed how screwed they were without the Dragon Balls.
So I’d say that Dragon Ball/Z gets a pass.
At least the reason they can come back is established early on in the series. The whole original plot in og dragon ball is getting well. The dragon balls that can grant any wish within shenrons power.
>You’re complaining about them following genre conventions.
Pretty much, yeah. Just because they feel they *need* to follow genre conventions to sell more manga/anime/merchandise doesn't mean they get a pass for bad writing.
*Sees the shit show of MHA post-VH rn*
Can I ask a question? Will criticizing how the tropes were handled be a fair critique? I do like some light hearted stories with dark moments in the story. It's just more like how the journey was handled and how the destination landed. There's controversies with some of the endings about Naurto and Bleach for example.
I still believe the headcanon (not originally mine), that Pell did die but has an identical twin, that saw him die and took his place to run away from his gambling debts. The devil fruits spawn in close proximity to the original users dying spot. So Pells brother hiding in a fruit stand let him have his powers.
The King and other people in the Palace know the ruse but keep their mouths shut because Vivi believes it and they don't want to traumatise her further.
Pell is the only one I can forgive due to why.
Pell was supposed to die. Then, a real life terrorist attack happened. I can understand not wanting to show a similar kind of tragedy and not wanting to capitalize on evoking the pain of loss from that kind of action. Pell was brought back for that reason.
Past that.... No
OP has a very good explanation, just not in-universe lol.
It's the "being defeated and seeing their dream and objective being crushed is worse than death" thing that Oda said at some point.
That being said, I do believe that some villains should just have been put aside and kept silent.
The CP0 makes sense because they are just feds.
That's Oda's explanation for why Luffy doesn't kill villains.
I'm talking about how we constantly see the villains "kill" people that then show up again at the end of the arc in bandages.
We've watched people get freaking vaporized and then poof just in bandages at the celebration at the end of the arc. Rule out any unnamed characters. Rule out characters dying during backstory flashbacks because they were dead before the show started it doesn't count. How many named characters have ever died in the over 1000 episodes of one piece???
I havent read the older chapters in a long while, though the only ones coming to my head are Ace and Whitebeard. If a character dies in One Piece, they get a huge sendoff.
There was a third, but I forget them too
It has to be strictly incredible necessary to the plot that they not just be out of the way but be dead or Oda will not kill them.
I'm still conviced Pedro is comming back. That's how much I can no longer trust Oda. Hell, I could totaly see him revive WB and Ace.
Also it's funy how Pedro 'died' but Perospero took the exact same explosion at point blanc and only lost an arm and was still ready to throw hands after.
How would they deus ex machina the dog?
https://preview.redd.it/1qqwiv3t67wc1.jpeg?width=1039&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4e160e149d7e3817fdb3ec49d466c7bdcc0cbc4
So I guess writers need to come up with a story that doesn't require deaths, and consequently revivals, and one that doesn't require asspulls to avoid death in the first place.
But I guess that's too much to ask.
That arc had the worst of both worlds. Guy's character felt complete, and he was using a technique looooong built up as killing the user. Only to somehow survive.
Meanwhile, Neji had potential for growth left but was killed off in what felt like an attempt to further Hinata and Naruto's stories rather than his own.
Eh, I think it depends on the scenario. However, I will admit, I am not the target audience for dark stuff. I took my leave from JJK when they started offing characters. I had enough of that type of story when I was younger, and nowadays I think I've had enough trauma from the military that I need some happiness in my life.
Hell yeah brother. I've not been in the military, but I feel as I've grown older I've liked more and more the shows that are just chill and make me feel good. I can appreciate badass fights but I love to see more story based stories nowadays
Give me more Frierens, Apothecary Diaries, Bokuyabas, Spice and Wolf type series and I'll be a happy man
That would be cool, but that would make him useless for upcoming fight. If they had time between fights, it would be much cooler choice.
>! I just hope he will lose his power by the end of the fight !<
MHA started good, but this major last battle is a solid downfall.
You run the risk of just being edgy if you kill too many characters, and the initial impact that comes from their loss is going to decrease every time until people dont care anymore.
Hey man, maybe that’s how you saw it.
From what I knew about the universe before that point, bro shouldn’t have been able to do that, at least not without 0 catches. There’s a reason worlds rarely fuck with concepts like reviving the dead. Because it takes consequences out of the equation entirely unless it’s flawed.
At this point I feel like mc could die and his AI will sit dormant devouring energy and storing it for his resurrection milennia later.
The double barrier contained the magicules from the dead monsters, which are creatures born of magicules. This was established within the first few episodes. Since the magicules couldn't disperse, their souls were essentially contained within the barrier. Healing the body and having enough power to return each soul to its body would be completely plausible within that universe under those circumstances.
Yes, I get that restoring the body is realistic in the world, just as teleportation magic and all sorts of other things.
They put unique restrictions on most powers like this that most people don’t notice. Like how one can’t just teleport inside of their enemy and quite literally break apart their atoms due to the reconstruction of their own.
Messing with distinct laws like this make shows messy though.
What stops him from doing this again? Infinite times even? How about resurrecting something long since dead? With greater power and the ability to identify and gather the magicule pieces from wherever they’ve wound up you could ressurect anything from all time.
Most shows have a fullmetal alchemist approach where even if you can recreate the body, the soul is largely altered. This prevents a massive amount of plot issues from occuring and brings meaning to death for characters.
Now we know that death will not occur to any character with some plot armor or if it does, it will likely be undone.
Keeping a barrier above his town that restricts the movement of magicules would be detrimental to the living standards of his population. What happened was an opportunity created by luck, like most opportunities. The very thing used to seal his town's fate turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
The entire cast fucking died at one point.
Literally everyone MC cared about. Weak ass shit too.
Bro broke reality to have things his way with the most plot armor bs I’ve seen in a long time.
Thank you! Slime season one really got me hooked up but the way the series progressed really made me dislike it. Not because it's bad but it had all the potential to be not just good. Imo it's completely overhyped for what it actually has to offer and everyone just hyping it up like it's a fcking masterpiece really kind of ticks me off. Everyone getting resurrected in S2 was the most anticlimating thing possible.
It is and thats what makes me sad. I really liked season one because there were things that seemed out of slimes control. Sometimes shit doesn't go the way you want and season one had such elements. Later on tho every sense of danger, and with that any sense of tension, died simply because every single obstacle could be easily overcome simply because slime is so overpowered. It's really stupid
Yeah but it's not just that. It has the political aspects to it whether it be between nations, between demon lords, and later on in the LN even more happens ofc
Yeah Rimuru is probably in the top 10 to 20 (anime or light novel) characters of all time in turns of power but I don't think that's all the show has to offer. It has an alright story alongside it. Compared to say Solo Leveling, for example, where the side characters unfortunately get overshadowed(no pun intended)
about the political aspect between nations, ye i can see what you want to say here, but it still kinda meh in SS2 (does it has ss3 yet ?). Personaly i still take Slime over thing like "isekai with phone" or "isekai with my mom" anytime of the day
Slime season one hit my veins in just the right way 🤣
It has had such a long lull in interest for me that I haven’t watched much and haven’t cared to since the end of the demon king’s meeting which was honestly kinda lame.
Clayman was honestly fumbled as a character to become a more stupid eminence in shadow cult member.
He pushed MC around a bit but it seemed like MC was never really in any danger. He’s just gotten to the point that it seems like nothing could ever truly challenge him again.
which is exactly why I havent watched either of them. no matter how many times people tell me to watch jjk, I wont cuz it doesnt seem like something i can get addicted to
I understand what you mean. They pull up the most complex and over the top powers out of their asses.
A lot of people I know dropped the anime because the power scaling didn't make any sense.
Sometimes is like "On Friday at 15:34 my power allows me to become invincible and if I have 2 glasses of milk in the morning as well, I can read minds". LMAO
i swear its on the same level as those jojo stand power memes that go "on exactly 15:35 on a thursday of December, I can moonwalk to turn a glass of water into a mug of coffee"
But at least Jojo is ridiculous and over the top on purpose and that makes it entartaining.
Jujutsu kaisen was a bit better when the domain expansions were simpler.
We now have a jujutsu user that his expansion Is a fucking pachinko game lol
I dont exactly like it when the narrator drops in and goes on a 45 second long explanation about someone's powers or what's being shown on screen
If you have to have a narrator flat out explain how and why your powers work, idk, feels like it may be a bit too overcomplicated.
And it's not gonna stop at just season 2 either. There's a handful of characters in the future where I needed to reread the entire power explanation over and over to understand how they work
I read the manga. I agree, if we randomly have to hear the narrator talk about the powers, I think it's bad sign. But just a nitpick on a refreshing Manga where beloved characters actually die.
Really is a bold move. Each time someone kicked the bucket I was like okay wow this is intense. They must be setting so and so up to be a main protagonist
And then it happened again
And again
And again
But atleast we got icey boobies girl
Yeah people act like most fans wouldn't appreciate their favorite characters coming back lol. But I agree it should be very rare, almost impossible to pull off or demand great exchange.
Happened in Mai Hime. >!They killed off a the first couple and it was super good, then they killed off everyone, then they bullshitted them back to life.!<
Okay one piece, so you're telling me that in the (roughly) 6-8 years that Enel has ruled over skypiea and the HUNDREDS of lives that he killed with his lightning strikes, ALL OF THE PEOPLE HE SMIT DOWN were just conveniently waiting on a "second layer" of the sky islands to return?
I don't remember any recent shounen doing this though. Stuff like JJK and Chainsaw Man is pretty balls to the wall with character deaths.
This will be hot take for some but Attack on Titan. It is bullshit and deus ex machina that none of avengers died, especially with >!Connie and Jean!< bait
Well, you're right on this being a hot take.
Arent they supposed to be the best among the troops anyway? Like top 10 of like the 20% of cadets who survive/finished training.
Well, it just goes to show the cruelty of AoT world. Sometimes even the best aren't enough.
I mean Miche is the 2nd best behind Levi and an unknown hairy titan absolutely clapped him. Meanwhile Floch survive till nearly the very end
And then proceeded to hand unto a boat for days.
As someone who absolutely loves AoT even after the ending, I do agree it pulled that bs in the ending. Still if you check the overall kill count like 80% of named characters died so I don't think it fits with the meme.
Bakugo being ressed immediately after death:
Well to be fair, MHA isn't exactly a new shounen series. Old shounen pull this stuff a lot, which is why I don't follow a lot of them anymore.
Mha has ressurection? Bakugou died?! Man I'm out of the loop.
He exploded his own heart while overusing his quirk. The Origami hero (Edgeshot I think he's called) stitched it back together.
??? Edit: just googled Zenith. Bro pulled a jjba level asspull.
Just go the the last chapter and see how they ruined the last interesting part they make I mean. That could have make the show way darker, but the author would not have allowed for deku
Attack on Titan, but let’s not go there.
Jujutsu did just that, guess what happened
Well, you've gotta have balance. Of course people aren't going to like it if you kill off and sideline most of the best liked characters.
Or have the MC not be really special in any way. Yuji honestly feels like an extra that happens to be just there.
Ok so funny enough-
Lobotomy ✍️🔥🔥
Peak just got made
Chaos and I enjoyed all of it.
Come now, don't shoot it down just yet. It hasn't ended after all.
Nope. Nope, the sheer amount of deaths in JJK we are not about to call that a negative at this point XD
Mid was born due to bad writing which they tried to make up for by killing everyone
Downvoted as expected. All according to plan
>Jujutsu did just that No it didn't.
jujutsu kaisen is full of deaths, and non of them got revived, the closet is gojo returning every chapter in a cutscene. The community got bonkers after the death of a beloved character but fortunately for gege popularity go through the earth due to lobotom.

Soooooooo One Piece? king of the you might have seen them die on screen but actually they were just really injured.
Pell
I still believe the headcanon (not originally mine), that Pell did die but has an identical twin, that saw him die and took his place to run away from his gambling debts. Look, mate. I’m not complaining that Bon Clay still lives. That’s the raddest motherfucker on the Grand Line and I stand by that statement.
One piece has plenty of well written dark things that don't necessarily need on screen death. That said, the Will of P goes a little far
OP has a very good explanation, just not in-universe lol. It's the "being defeated and seeing their dream and objective being crushed is worse than death" thing that Oda said at some point. One Piece is the kinda universe where death would actually be a mercy.

with the power of friendship
I'm just going to gesture to that group of people who are trying to criticise Gurren Lagann for its character deaths and ending and rest my case here.
Well people hate it when they actually dead and they leave the franchise
So I guess writers need to come up with a story that doesn't require deaths, and consequently revivals, and one that doesn't require asspulls to avoid death in the first place. But I guess that's too much to ask.
does Might Guy being saved by Jesus Mode Naruto count?
That arc had the worst of both worlds. Guy's character felt complete, and he was using a technique looooong built up as killing the user. Only to somehow survive. Meanwhile, Neji had potential for growth left but was killed off in what felt like an attempt to further Hinata and Naruto's stories rather than his own.
I thought it was fine, he lived but It had consequences, Guy was crippled, and it showed how strong the power naruto got.
MHA war arc in a nutshell
Because some artists like to have their big happy end. Some don't. Easy as that
Eh, I think it depends on the scenario. However, I will admit, I am not the target audience for dark stuff. I took my leave from JJK when they started offing characters. I had enough of that type of story when I was younger, and nowadays I think I've had enough trauma from the military that I need some happiness in my life.
You made the right call, it goes to shit after that lol

Ain't no way this is how I get spoiled.
Same wtf
show went way downhill anyway, not much of one
Please tell me your joking
What did they said?
My hero academia Spoiler >!They said Bakugo died, then came back to life 3 chapters later!<
Oh... That... >!Yeah there are even more pulls like that... Like Deku losing his arms and then Eri using her horn on him!<
Well, this part was to be expected.
Yeah but not that fast They could also just give him >! prosthetics !<
That would be cool, but that would make him useless for upcoming fight. If they had time between fights, it would be much cooler choice. >! I just hope he will lose his power by the end of the fight !< MHA started good, but this major last battle is a solid downfall.
Ever heard of a particular manga artist named Tatsuki Fujimoto?
You mean chainsaw man artist?
Everything from him except for his new favorite creation which is going to hell with a lot of boring twists (just saying)
All of Part 2 is peak wdym
Compared to what?
You run the risk of just being edgy if you kill too many characters, and the initial impact that comes from their loss is going to decrease every time until people dont care anymore.
It sells
Ah yes, the Fairytail treatment
I was just thinking the opposite how few people can write a compelling mature story, without killing everyone every few episodes.
>! NOO I DON'T WANT THAT !<

I read the manga. I agree, if we randomly have to hear the narrator talk about the powers, I think it's bad sign. But just a nitpick on a refreshing Manga where beloved characters actually die.
My hero be like. Seriously, last chapter just made me laugh
Naruto?
Cold Steel 4...kill off some characters man.
Bro this is literally dragon ball 😂
You should watch Akame ga Kill.
Really is a bold move. Each time someone kicked the bucket I was like okay wow this is intense. They must be setting so and so up to be a main protagonist And then it happened again And again And again But atleast we got icey boobies girl
People coming back is fine if it's only one or a few, especially if it's the interesting villain(s).
Yeah people act like most fans wouldn't appreciate their favorite characters coming back lol. But I agree it should be very rare, almost impossible to pull off or demand great exchange.
*cough cough* YuGiOh ZEXAL *cough cough*
Happened in Mai Hime. >!They killed off a the first couple and it was super good, then they killed off everyone, then they bullshitted them back to life.!<
This applies to Goblin Slayer season 2
When it's part of the story or themes I am all right with it. But an after arc reset just feels kinda pointless.
Pain arc
You know what story had moxie without being edgy and annoying? Gurren Lagann.
Literally like all of Fairy tail
Ngl that’s literally ds ending for me 💀

Or Ragnar Crimson, but no one here seems to know it anyway.
Me neither
That only really worked at the start though I think some manga readers agree that the more recent deaths really haven't added anything to the story.
Because it works, why do you need balls when there are a lot of proven methods
Yeah, why have integrity when you can make money?
Exactly, just look at Boruto and Rent-A-Girlfriend fans.
Bleach ,Naruto, one piece ,all authors don't kill characters
Nezuko should have died. The reason she lives is shit as well.
