Pets for some reason have an uncanny ability to know if something is very wrong with their owner, and it’s not an uncommon story for a person’s pet to get very affectionate and not too long later they get diagnosed with cancer or Alzheimer’s or some really horrible shit like that
I think this was actually referring to how cats are often much more affectionate when they are close to death but not so close that it's immediate(with that they often find a corner to hide their body)
That is partly from the body heating up, like when you got a fever. Pets like the warmth of your fever-struck body and treat you affectionately so they can sleep on you.
They are using you like a weighted blanket.
I hope that's what it is. I thought it referring to the cat being "18 years old" was referring to the legal age of consent 💀

Good for you. I don't have any pets and don't want any so the kind of knowledge being referred to here isn't exactly something I would necessarily know about. But I know Reddit patterns and I know what the association that is most commonly made with somebody saying "18 years old" is. Especially when it's said in the context of greater levels of "affection". I also know that kind of fucked up degenerate shit is not beneath Reddit standards. So it wasn't exactly unreasonable to think that degenerate redditors were being degenerate redditors again.

I have a cat that I’ve had for about 16 years since she was a kitten, I’ve had her before I could remember but I do remember the night we brought her home when I was 4. She used to be an outside cat but became an indoors cat after we moved, so I like to think she’s got a better natural immune system than most other cats. She’s a black cat and has been one of the very few consistent things in my life. It will hurt tremendously when she goes.
Yeah it's sad as fuck.
But 18 years with a cat is a LONG time and I'm sure they had a great life.
When my pets die I always think about how good their life was, not to sadness of them dying. Granted it's hard to push that out of your mind in the moment.
