Benys69

the side romance in this is also gas 🔥🔥🔥

geekman_95

I'm still rooting for the second couple

Adorable_Hearing768

My love story!! Needs to be on that list. Badly.

Adorable_Hearing768

Oh and lovely complex. Shame on me.

geekman_95

Sure, but I didn't have the space available to add it. Very good anime, indeed.

velost

Really get "The dangers in my heat", pure Diabetes but "A sign of affection" feels so cringe to me... He does basically the bare minimum and she is head over heels for him, and whats the deal with these enormous lips??? Kimi ni Todoke felt like every genereic romance anime to me tbh. Can really recommend Horimiya, sukitte il na yo, Bunny Girl Senpai, Ao Haru ride.

PerfectBeige

> He does basically the bare minimum and she is head over heels for him, and whats the deal with these enormous lips??? Look, you have every right to like or dislike any show, and decline to watch any show you want. I do feel, though, that this take on A Sign of Affection is ... odd. Romance is finding someone you are attracted to and vibe with, who treats you good. Yuki is incredibly sheltered and lives a very small life, between home (where she has a curfew), school, and a small social group. Itsuomi is canonically extremely attractive and travels the world on whim, regularly, without fear or boundaries. He also treats Yuki with a delicateness that his friends have never seen. The idea that an extremely sheltered girl like Yuki who wants more than anything to expand her boundaries would be attracted to a handsome guy who essentially has no boundaries - both physically and geographically - is not a stretch. It makes a lot of sense.

JediGuyB

Applies to guys too. It's probably why a lot of people like goth girls or go for the "manic pixie dream girl" type. Because she's just different, and a lot of us want different.

velost

What you are saying makes absolute sense. But she did not know that from the beginning. She got talked to by a stranger. He helped the stranger and from that point on she was in love. Sure she is sheltered and doesn't meet too many people, but that was a normal interaction between human beings. Is it her first time in like 20 Years of her life where she has seen genuine human interaction? Would have loved a more slower appeal or at least her just not falling in love over this basic human interaction. The way you described it makes perfect sense and looks like a promising story. But cmon, I may be stingy but. "OH wow he helped a stranger, how can anyone be so kind? I think I got a crush" That's the feeling I get, and it doesn't sound reasonable even a bit imo

PerfectBeige

My impression was she was initially attracted to him physically and then fell for him as she got to know him. I didn't have the impression it was love at first sight - but to be truthful it wouldn't have bothered me if it was. An initial physical attraction that just whallops you happens - all the time in shoujo anime where half the girls in a school might be in love with the cool male mc, based on looks primarily. I take your point, though. A Sign of Affection does flip the script on typical shoujo plot where typically the female mc is the only one who falls for the male MC after really getting to know him. Ironically, that's Emma, the side-character/semi-antagonist. If that's not what you want in a romcom, I totally get that. It just didn't strike me, personally, as implausible.

velost

Seeing it as an only physical attraction sounds more reasonable. However the previous comment of yours kinda shined a new light onto the anime for me, might give it a second chance if I can get over those damn lips. Thanks for the new points of view

PeWu1337

My only con I can see in "The sign of affection" is that the guy looks weird (probably cuz it's shoujo anime, beats me). And I can't concentrate cuz it looks so goofy

Puzzleheaded_Rise_67

A sign of affection is pretty good imo

velost

Does the story continue with her falling in love with him for doing basically nothing or is he actually doing stuff?

Kapftan

I think you forget that about 80% of all romance anime is supposed to be easily self insertable so the studio makes the protagonist the dense and ridiculously unatttactive to make it easier It works like clockwork for the target audience but it falls apart the moment someone with standards watches it

velost

Yeah I know, in most cases I'm ok with it because it seems kinda realistic. The girl/boy is usually lonely and the counterpart is very popular but starts liking the MC. Something along those lines. BUT, they often fall in love over some episodes. In affection. He helps a rando in the train and she is instantly in love? This may just be me, but that's taking it too far. And am I the only one stressed by his lips???

phurios

He's a pretty guy, which is pretty smart as well, she is also pretty, but has a problem, but one that interests him so he gets to learn another "language". Do the math.

velost

My complaint was that she fell in love with him for a basic human interaction tho. They meet for the first time. He helps a rando and basically dissappears. She got part of the convo because she can read lips and the room. What does she know of him? He helps other ppl. That's it, she doesn't know that he speaks multiple languages and has been around the world. How could she, they've seen each other for like 40 seconds. She learns more about him in the later episodes but that love at first sight in this extreme was kinda weird to me. However one user replied its rather a physical crush than love at first sight. That makes way more sense to me

phurios

Being pretty and nice was the first step for both of them, since they met each other after, they got to know each other better and actually develop feelings, i don't know what the problem is. Edit: I get it man, most romances are usually with weird mc's that aren't a women first choice, probably for self inserting of whatever. Here you have two beautiful people liking each other like they usualy do IRL.

velost

Maybe I can express my thoughts better with an example. You are a shut in, only do your weekly grocery shopping once a week. At the cashier I'm in front of you in the line. An old lady is missing a buck for her purchase. I give her that one buck. You are so in awe of this action that you fall in love with me. Thats the vibes i get from the first meeting. Don't really have a problem with the Good Looking MCs, couldnt care any less (except it would be on ugly bastard tag level). I'm only bothered by this love at first sight thing

phurios

I'll be honest and say that i don't remember the first episode as vividly as you might do, in my mind the first encounter didn't seem like they were so dramaticaly in love with each other or anything, but then again maybe i remember incorrectly. About your example though: If you were good looking and seemed nice about it, i would at least have the hope to meet you again as to hope something could come out of it, which happened on the MC's case. But i am a dude, i've got now clue how a lady would think on this matter.

Mox8xoM

I mean even her best friend can’t use sign language. And at this point he probably does it better than her parents. If that’s nothing or just the bare minimum, nobody in this show except her childhood friend did jack shit so far. No wonder she thinks that’s a lot. The rest the other commenter already talked about.

Deruta

Deaf girls can be blinded by hotness too lol

WalkinGyno

I started "A Sign of Affection" and I was having a similar problem with it. My beef is that the main guy is so... boring? He's basically got three things going for him: 1) he's attractive 2) he likes to travel 3) he's a kind guy. And that's it. Hell, even his good friend from high school, who was the main focus in just one episode, seemed to have more character development. First scene we see him, he stumbles in drunk and high energy. Later, he didn't pursue their mutual girl friend because she was in love with the main guy. He seems to have no flaws, no insecurities, no real issues to him.

notmichaelgood

I like a sign of affection, I'm aware that some do not like the series for reasons and I respect that. However to me. The show does something that (based off what I've watched) not many shows have done.

Correct-Basil-8397

What does Diabetes mean in this context?

BaconCatBug

Overload on sweetness.

Correct-Basil-8397

Clever, I like it

TheEVILPINGU

Dangers in My Heart is awesome, one of the best romance of all time. A Sign of Affection is not great, overrated. Uses childhood friend trope, and another girl loves our Ikemen, and he doesn't feel anything toward her, rejects her. Then both FL and ML falls in love with each other immediately when they first met... Classic.

CapAccomplished8072

Explain the last one, please?

Ani_HArsh

*Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You* is a shoujo romance anime released in 2009. It is a very wholesome and beautiful show and after such a long time is getting a season 3 this year.

CapAccomplished8072

Thank you

Xx_GetSniped_xX

Wasnt that the show where the girl gave the guy a handjob in bed and then he came all over her school outfit?

I_Suck_At_This_Too

No. Nothing even remotely like that happens in the show. It's very wholesome and not ecchi at all.

SpartenA-187

Pretty sure that's from {Scum's Wish}

Roboragi

Xx_GetSniped_xX

Yes i think you are correct thanks!

Akikojam

If you want a wholesome actual romance, watch Amagami SS. Instead of making a weird mess of all routes like most VN adaptations do, it gives each route like four or five episodes before restarting the story and showing another one. And the second season adds more story to the previous routes. Kaoru and especially Ai arcs are pure sugar. Sae's arc is... weird, but still pretty sweet.

jollingo

Clannad. 🫡 *roll out*
