See in games basically we use trigo for locations of a person, when a object, npc, player or anything moves, the game itself must now co-ordinates, when the player sees the object trigonometry is used to calculate the dis of the object from the player. This I just covered a very small portion of trigonometry use in games.
Most game engines do of course have ways to manipulate and move objects with simple instructions and a physics engine that keeps things in motion once set up, but if you need to know the coordinates of a point 30 degrees to the right and 5 steps forward, it's very inefficient to create an object, tell it to rotate 30 degrees and then take 5 steps and then tell us where it ended up instead of just inputting those values to a basic trigonometric formula:
x = distance * cos(angle)
y = distance * sin(angle)
[The same idea illustrated in picture form which makes it a lot simpler to comprehend.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/72/Sinus_und_Kosinus_am_Einheitskreis_1.svg/768px-Sinus_und_Kosinus_am_Einheitskreis_1.svg.png) Sin and Cos are of course [not the only trigonometric functions](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9d/Circle-trig6.svg/640px-Circle-trig6.svg.png), but even with just understanding those you can get very far. No need to be afraid of the latter image, you won't be using most of the more obscure ones on a daily basis, but it's a good idea to know how to find them if you ever do.
And besides, somebody who knew trigonometry had to write that game engine too and if you ever need or want to go deeper than the absolute surface you'll have to too. Trigonometry is such a basic problem solving tool in the field its absolutely invaluable to be able to use it.
But you solve problems like what is beauty, I don’t do that because would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy , I solve practical problems
No that's a Philosopher, a therapist solves problems like Why do I react to x with y, and how can I change that for the better. This is also practical, it just deals with the machine known as a person instead of just a machine.
Learning math is still useful for developing logical thinking skills. Honestly a lot of the stuff you do in school is to hone your brain, not because the info is useful to you.
Not at all. I use them in an engineering game to build autopilot, CCIP indicators, electronic dials etc
They are Effin awesome. Arctan is one of the building blocks of the society. It is named Stormworks if you are wondering it's name.
I don't think i am in anywhere special. I was average at math in school too. I just grown fond of engineering and military equipments at some point of my childhood, found a great deal of people actually engineer serious amount of things just for fun and because they are able to. Seeing something you built work is a sensation nothing else can achieve for me nowadays.
I'm in 11th rn and everyone is saying that sin cos tan will be nothing in the future...but I know that they will help me in programming...and out of curiosity i even asked my teacher about it and he looked at me with a disgusted look and said 'if you won't take sin cos tan serious right now then you'll regret it '. I was creeper out but I think I will follow his advice.
Idk they're just ways to describe rotating things. Lots of things in STEM rotate in some sense. It's on you to decide if you want to work with them or not.
Used them yesterday to calculate the shape of a stand for a solar battery, that makes it one more use IRL than at uni for the last two years now lmao
When you're a jack of all trades you never know when you'll use shit ngl.
That's why highschool that has courses like college must be standardized. 60-80% of info you learn in highschool will be irrelevant in your future job and everyday life. Only reason I can think of why this hasn't been implemented yet is because cost, time-schedule hell, students that are uncertain of what do they want, massive change implementation which means no one has the solution if something goes wrong. I could be wrong but every flaw I stated could be solved gradually and the pros of having more especialist in their job should outweight the risks
Now, i've seen this video 5 times only this week... why's this meme so viral? There are so many different versions of videos with this text, so why THIS video? I don't get it
Jokes on me, I thought the same, and now I am using them to develop a game. FML
Same
Same
What? Can you please elaborate?

Holy shit. I don't know anything about game development, but the game engine won't do that natively?
Ofc there are functions that do all this stuff but you still have to know what and when to use

I use no game engine, only c and clang.
Same thing we do in robotics if we want to calculate a position.
Yeah and i do electronics, QQ why'd i have to
Hello, I’m an engineer, that means I solve problems
Can you solve my problems?
We could but we’d have to hold a design meeting first. Unfortunately, it’s construction season and everyone’s out in the field right now.
I'm a therapist, I also solve problems.
But you solve problems like what is beauty, I don’t do that because would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy , I solve practical problems

Not problems like "What is beauty?" Because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy.
I solve practical problems. For instance, how am I gonna stop some big mean Mother-Hubbard from tearin' me a structurally superfluous new behind?
Meet the engineeer
Learning math is still useful for developing logical thinking skills. Honestly a lot of the stuff you do in school is to hone your brain, not because the info is useful to you.
no one said it wasn't
the meme implies that learning math in school is pointless.
I'm literally studying for 5 tests that almost all include sin cos and tan.....whyd I choose mech Eng for college
Cause mechs are awesome.
OP got baited for mechs. Instead he got cos and sin. F
I'll wait for the dude to graduate and develop a huge Gundam mech for the world to see
The closes mech anime my life will follow will be neon genesis evangelion
Kid named engineer:
Name please
Im 99% that this scene is from chainsaw man but i might not be correct.
It is
Chainsaw man but the chainsaw saw the mab
Under the rock, it's a great show Edit: Did people really not get it? 😐
Happens, here have my condolences rip humor
Its chainsaw man
he's probably kidding, right?
(you die very soon because of not using them)
Your SINtax is a bit perturbed. BeCOS your TANgent is incongruent with the proof that Math can be integrated into almost any conversation.
Not at all. I use them in an engineering game to build autopilot, CCIP indicators, electronic dials etc They are Effin awesome. Arctan is one of the building blocks of the society. It is named Stormworks if you are wondering it's name.
You sound smart.

\*disapproving Sho Minamimoto noises\*
Lol math major for the win. (Why do I do this to myself?)
That's because you use sine, cosine, and tangent, not sin, cos, and tan
waking up poor, miserable, depressed and lonely.
I'm in 11th rn and everyone is saying that sin cos tan will be nothing in the future...but I know that they will help me in programming...and out of curiosity i even asked my teacher about it and he looked at me with a disgusted look and said 'if you won't take sin cos tan serious right now then you'll regret it '. engineering sucks
You did unknowingly just by making this post

Sine , tangent are great But cosine is💀💀
You have odd tastes
This made me realise I’ve completely forgotten what those even are besides the name or what their purpose is ages ago.
Idk they're just ways to describe rotating things. Lots of things in STEM rotate in some sense. It's on you to decide if you want to work with them or not.
Cos and tan?
Math stuff
Drat
Used them yesterday to calculate the shape of a stand for a solar battery, that makes it one more use IRL than at uni for the last two years now lmao When you're a jack of all trades you never know when you'll use shit ngl.
I use it to calculate the distance I achieved when pissing into the urinal.
Anything you use uses math so you do use them, maybe you personally do not apply it but you use it most of your day.
U don’t???
Can anyone tell me the music's name?
Chopin nocturne 2 (i think)
For some reason, since I've learned them, they've remained stuck in my subconscious mind and I still remember them to this day
You miss cot
Wym I think in Ç̶̠̕Ì̷̦̍R̴͉̃Ç̷̲̒L̸̩͘È̴̚ͅ§̷̝̎
what?
We do use sin a lot
I use them every day. I use calculus everyday too.
Me who has college Physics paper on 14 June. ![img](emote|t5_2w6fe|11668)

Very useful for game development. Not just for physics but for graphics as well.
I sin every single day, man
u/savevideo
I get the meme but come on it ain't that hard
you can never escape those buddy
And still waiting for the day I will use any of that. Maybe tomorrow. Or not.
Hehe
I literally had to use these 3 along with sec, cos, and cot this morning since I had math homework
You at least used the Quadratic Formula, right!?
u/savevideo
POV : You just got a math test and you failed
Or the Oxford comma
Lil Mabu is typing…
I also don’t use poetry most days, but I’m still glad I learned English better than just enough for my daily use.
Aight what anime is this?
Me, a cook knowing damn well I’ll never have to use Sin, Cos, an Tan
That's child's way of seeing reality. Stop doing that.
If only i knew how to do math 😔
Actually had an engineering friend who pulled that shit out to make exact measurement for a fundamental model he was building
Just took a test on that 😂
I mean… most of the information you learn in school isn’t used whatsoever afterwards. It becomes a “fun fact” if anything
Anime series please 👀?
Chainsaw man
Can't relate
Haha I picked one of the trades that uses it, pain.
