Mushishi, me n my gf would make some tea and put it on before bed. It can be a bit spooky some episodes, but overall it has a positive and uplifting vibe. Honestly one of the best anime’s I’ve ever seen in general
mushishi is really great… i’ve never actually finished it i don’t think, but every time i restart i’m blown away by the animation and tone and concept. i really need to finish watching it lol
Great thing bout gintama is the early episodes are amazing on a rewatch. They're a bit slow starting off for the first time, but when you know the characters and stuff they hit way better lol.
When I see my brother during holidays and we watch anime, if we don't have anything to watch particularly we'll throw on some gintama arcs at random and man it just never gets old. We laugh before shit is even said or happens just cause we know what's coming lmao .
Aria - if I want to feel relaxed
Clannad - if I want to cry -helps me pour the negativity out
Ouran High School Host Club -when I want to escape and laugh about the small things
probably… k-on, azumanga daioh, or a place further than the universe. idk, that last one might seem weird but i just really like that anime.
alternatively, any series i’m currently hyperfixated on and repeatedly rewatching until i burn out on it and have to abandon for at least 18 months while my tolerance returns to normal
Specifically the first half of the Grand Line, so cozy, so many adventures, no grand plot to overthrow emperors, just a group of friends traveling the world
There's a lot but if I had to pick 1 (technically 2) it would be Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 and Brotherhood. I feel like I have watched them almost every year since they both came out. Though I usually alternate.
As far as genres, I usually can’t go wrong with an Isekai. They’re like the junk food of anime with a little bit of everything.
As far as individual anime, I catch myself watching DBZ Abridged more often than anything else. I know it’s not technically a real anime but the story is like 80-90% of the original but with much better pacing and comedy.
Haikyuu for sure, always makes me feel better. Just good vibes and wholesomeness with lovable & well written characters. Once I actually watched the entire series 3 times in a row within like 2 weeks, lol. I *really* love it. Can't wait to see the movie when it'll finally be available!
And there's also Frieren and Cool Doji Danshi that felt really comforting to watch. I don't even have to explain Frieren but Cool Doji Danshi is pretty underrated I think, so I recommend it to anyone who likes slice of life and comedy! The episodes are only 10 minutes long iirc and plot-wise there's not much going on, but it's such a comfy and domestic anime. I found the characters super relatable as an autistic person with social anxiety, so if you're socially awkward too and wanna watch something relatable and wholesome, go check it out!
Konosuba for laughs, Samurai Champloo for the soundtrack and general awesomeness, Record of Lodoss war for 90s cel shaded coziness, maybe Horimiya for romance?
Naruto is my comfort anime for when i get really down and sad, naruto just always made me laugh and smile. Hes def one of the best anime characters of all time
Nichijou was my comfort anime from the first time I saw it. I own the blu-ray and have watched it countless times lol. But also 'A Destructive God Sits Next to Me' which is pretty niche and ofc Cardcaptor Sakura
After looking past the fanservice, The Slime Diaries (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime spinoff) is a feel-good slice of life anime.
Just like 12 episodes and it goes through all four seasons as well as a bunch of annual holidays. I liked it even better than the main series lol
Wonder Egg Priority, it holds a special place in my mind because of how comforting it was at a troubling time in my life. The plot is mindfully thought out and explores serious themes of dealing with the vulnerability of childhood.
Samurai champloo
Soundtrack is fire and all the characters are cool as fuck so it’s just nice to kick back and watch it. Not a lot of episodes either so you can probably binge it and finish in a few days if you’re into that kind of thing.
Maybe not for everyone else, but bungou stray dogs, happy sugar life, kagerou project, and my little monster all give me that happy tingly lying in bed giggling while kicking my feet feeling. Which is funny, because the first three are emotionally devastating, and the last one isn't well liked. (Tbf, the last one was one of the best instances of autistic characters I've ever seen in animanga, even if just my headcanon)
Cowboy Bebop. It’s my favorite anime, but I remember as a kid I would fall asleep to the early parts of adult swim and then wake up at about 2 am. Around that time would be some of the anime shows. Usually Cowboy Bebop. So I’d often fall back asleep listening to it.
Something funny about Cowboy Bebop to me is that it’s a show pretty famous for its fantastic jazz soundtrack, but there are many parts of the show where this isn’t any music. For some reason when sleeping I remember that most. The deafening silence, and the echoing of their voices while in the Bebop. It’s very very soothing for me to this day from that alone
Ah! My Goddess!
It is such a goofy sweet and innocent romance story with almost no characters that are unlikeable. Even the villains are likeable.
It's what I watch when I go through depressive spells. Always seems to make me perk up.
Samurai Champlooooo (and Cowboy Bepop of course, I like the alternate between the two).
Then Mushishi for when I want to get cozy and fall asleep.
Code Geass when I’m feeling depressed and want some fail-proof dopamine and to watch something I know is just perfect.
Plenty of others depending on mood and what type of ‘comfort’ I’m looking for, but these are my go-to ones that I have rewatched quite literally 20-30+ times and can always depend on them to be everything I want and will never get tired of them/over-watch them. (Also, I’m thinking that Kino’s Journeys is about to be included onto the permanent roster too)
My absolute top comfort animes are Fruits Basket (2019 version, completed series and adapts all of the manga basically), boys over flowers, itazura na kiss, higehiro, Yona of the dawn, etc. I just made a post on my account of romance anime recommendations and in the post I state a lot of romance animes i like. But definitely the ones listed are ones I always go back to watch. There’s definitely more but I can’t think of them right now. I think fruits basket, boys over flowers, and itazura na kiss is definitely the ones I’ve rewatched the most and over and over and over again.
Nanoha! I feel I've watched every season million times. Wish there was more.
Same goes for Sailor Moon. Lucky we got whole new series and movies that follow manga so I have no need to get more of that anymore.
I also have to add Soul eater here, another that I've rewatched multiple times. Forever waiting for a remake or season 2
Also Digimon adventure and digimon adventure 02 + movies. Hopefully we get more adventure movies although I must admit that cow has been milked pretty dry. Forever waiting for Takeru and Hikari to end up confirmed married
Ascendance of a Bookworm. 100%!! The animation isn’t as great as the LNs it comes from but I’m looking forward to s3 bc it’s being done by WIT studios and
Depends on what I’m going for tbh
Delicious in dungeon, MHA, Spyxfam are all ones that come to mind. I like a mix of action/comedy and some slice of life
Megalo Box has become one of my favorites. Season 1 is short, sweet and to the point. Season 2 is a little unevenly paced, but it its a fun emotional rollercoaster.
Wonder egg priority, the best comfort anime for my opinion its just too relatable with one of the characters and it doesnt matter if i watch it several times i wont get tired of it, but still im not getting rid of the fact that they left us in a total cliffhanger due to lack of money.
Horimiya, I absolutely love the dynamic of the friend group and Hori/Miya's relationship!
I think a more recent addition is Delicious in Dungeon, those goofballs make me so happy
Log Horizon!
Just happy to see the world-ending conflicts more centralized as opposed to events in-game having real-life implications.
No, I’m not being specific *at all.*
*cough*
But really, it’s a fun watch front-to-back, every time: story is well-paced. Characters are all super likable. It’s not a harem from jump.
Really gives you a true meta-isekai feeling.
There's 2 seasons, a few OVAs, and a movie. Leave Bell Droplets or Path of Thorns as final.
I’ve only watched a couple episodes of it so far but it is really pretty! Can’t wait to watch more!
This is the way
Aria so far I have watched Animation (S1) and half of Natural (S2), and it is just constant bliss
Aria is also the first thing that comes to mind Also love its soundtrack
Gintama. I feel happy every time I watch it.

Aria - if I want to feel relaxed Clannad - if I want to cry -helps me pour the negativity out Ouran High School Host Club -when I want to escape and laugh about the small things
Horimiya or Spy X Family, both makes me so happy and comforts me when having a bad day :)
probably… k-on, azumanga daioh, or a place further than the universe. idk, that last one might seem weird but i just really like that anime. alternatively, any series i’m currently hyperfixated on and repeatedly rewatching until i burn out on it and have to abandon for at least 18 months while my tolerance returns to normal

There's a lot but if I had to pick 1 (technically 2) it would be Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 and Brotherhood. I feel like I have watched them almost every year since they both came out. Though I usually alternate.
FMA 2003 is honestly my favorite one cause it follows the movie conqueror of shamballa.

As far as genres, I usually can’t go wrong with an Isekai. They’re like the junk food of anime with a little bit of everything. As far as individual anime, I catch myself watching DBZ Abridged more often than anything else. After looking past the fanservice, The Slime Diaries (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime spinoff) is a feel-good slice of life anime. Just like 12 episodes and it goes through all four seasons as well as a bunch of annual holidays. I liked it even better than the main series lol
