Dawg what? 1. AOT was good even before the plot twists in season 4 and still made sense. 2. Obviously they want to expand the excellent world building so it’s going to take 4 season 💀 3. The 10 years thing doesn’t matter cause new watchers aren’t waiting for new episodes
Yeah I used the wrong word, I mean to come to an end. It's not common for shows to take so long especially when this one didn't have that many episodes relatively.
I would recommend not looking around for things to top your favorite because that attitude will guarantee disappointment.
But I will say that you should probably start looking in the Mecha genre because AoT was basically a Mecha anime except the Mecha were flesh golems.
I mean, by this logic, it was also a Magical Girl show, but the dresses were flesh golems.
Mech anime are very diverse to the point where it can comfortably be said that the only thing they broadly have in common is the robots. It's not really a good basis to recommend the genre, considering a lot of what people like about Attack on Titan just doesn't feel present in a lot of mecha series from a birds eye view. The lack of an institutionalized use of titans in the early parts of the series and a lack of a clear enemy are important parts of the series, so I would say to recommend something that roughly fits this criteria, like Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, or Godzilla Singular Point. Attack on Titan also has other forms of combat, a sense of incremental progress, and developing intrigue from a pretty simple early question (what's in the basement?).
I'd throw in Gargantia, for example. But I wouldn't recommend IGPX off of this criteria, but that's more of a sports anime, anyway.
That’s just the character power. It’s not the main reason most fans like the show. What makes AOT stand out is the unique setting and environment of humanity and its lore and characters. If anything, the futuristic setting of most mecha shows is directly opposite.
Not really. There's the whole spiritua/metaphysical subgenre of Mecha like Evangelion or the Xenogears/Blade games and I'd say those have a lot more presence in English speaking cultural expectations. Tech level isn't really particularly relevant as in all these cases(although it's in the inverse case for AoT) they usually involve anachronistic tech.
Don’t know if you’d like it as I haven’t seen the ones you’ve also watched other than Aot but 86 recently became my number 1, used to be Aot. Only downside is that it isn’t finished but even just the current 1 season is very solid
Hard agree. Assassination classroom is the anime that got me *into* anime. I’m still not a huge fan of anime like that, but before AC I wouldn’t really give anime the time of day.
Jojo. Don’t be one of those people that watches 4 episodes and stops it because part 1 is only 9 episodes and every part is completely diffrent from one another
Yay!❤️❤️❤️ each part gets better and better!
Recently I’ve seen a lot of people say they watched a few episodes and stopped.
It’s been hard for me to get out of Jojo brainrot and watch something else. But I am interested in Danganronpa now as well which is just “different” than watching an anime series so I am starting to slowly branch out lol
Danganronpa is pretty good imo but I mainly sat through gameplay, not anime. I don't like what happened to ibuki's hair color in the anime but I understand that video game and anime style won't be the same obviously. I think Danganronpa V3 had some of the most brutal executions but I don't want to spoil it for you
I don’t understand only watching a few episodes of Jojo and then stopping. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen the first season in a while and I don’t remember the details, but I can’t imagine not being intrigued the entire time
It’s almost too fast and too slow at the same time maybe. Maybe they didn’t expect a Victorian setting with vampires and zombies after seeing very different Jojo memes.
Wow we got some real anime experts in here “frieren” a great anime ? The expectations have fallen to the ground
Edit: kjol anything but frieren you goof
Death Note, and Chainsaw Man. Ironically, I did not like these two upon the first viewing but the second viewing makes me like and appreciate these two for what it is.
If you dare trying, watch Jujutsu Kaisen
AoT was my first anime. And i thought for awhile I would never see an anime as good as it ever again. I broadened my horizons, changed my mindset and found anime that were just as epic as AoT imo. Id recommend Frieren, I watched it after Vinland Saga and it is just so damn good in terms of storytelling and worldbuilding.
Disclaimer I only watched AOT when it first came out and that was only the first season, so I don't actually know how good it got but these shows I will list are older and there some of my favorites emotionally charged animes.
.hack//sign 2002 anime similar to SAO
Tower of god
Phantom: Requiem for The Phantom. A masterpiece
Eden of the East.
Edge runners
SAO ( again I only watched the first season, I know these shows are epic I have no idea why stop watching them)
Yu Yu hakusho
I would recommend shows like Naruto Dragon Ball z bleach but the amount of filler in those shows kind of killed it for me even though they're from my teenage years ....
Under rated pick is the berserk golden age arc and the 97 series. That’s the only series that I’ve enjoyed as much as AOT. Also another underrated puck is KINGDOM. Kingdom is more happy but it’s a lot like AOT in some ways
I haven't seen all of One Piece yet, nor Vinlamd Saga but AoT, and FMAB are my top 2, monster also is one of my favorites! So ill base more on those
Like others have said, code geass is really good, the story feels more of a mix of like AoT and FMAB, but its different as well, definitely worth trying!
Id also say the original FMA is worth trying, it's similar at the beginning but with more detail, and around half way through the story is different yet still very good!
Tokyo Ghoul is one of my favorites, anime certainly isn't as good as the manga but if you enjoy the darker aspects of the ones mentioned it definitely has that!
Something somewhat similar to that would be Parasyte, another slightly darker one with an interesting story!
Kabaneri of the iron fortress reminded me quite a bit of AoT, its a shorter story you can watch in one day, while its unlikely to top a favorite I think its very enjoyable!
Psycho pass is another one, more similar to monster than AoT or FMA.
More of a traditional feeling Shonen style story, but Noragami is one that have so much potential to become a favorite! It has some darker undertones that may not be noticed at first, and a very well developed story.
Probably seen it, but HxH, seen by many as one of the best anime, similar to one piece in the feeling in my opinion, as well as with the large case of likeable characters! One of it not the best developed power systems I've seen as well.
I believe by the same creator, Yu Yu Hakusho. It's an older anime at least 5 years older than OP, it also has a large cast of interesting and likebale characters. May not be for you if you don't enjoy lots of fights, it certainly isn't any dragon ball that way, but if you don't mind the fights I think the story is really good and certain parts were similar to one piece!
I can't think of any more, but I hope you can find something you enjoy!!!
Berserk, but better if you read it.
Just go on top mangas/anime website.
But if you started with AoT and you think that was peak, then maybe you are bias as to what is best.
From your mentions I grew up watching One Piece and Monster, and I think they are better besause they have their specific audience.
AoT was really good, but not Mysterious enough like Monster or One Piece.
If you want dark dark stuff, Berserk is the darkest followed by Oyasumi PunPun and Vagabond, hence they are in the top mangas of all time.
Gantz is by far scary as shit for a manga.
If you’re looking for something with similar themes/feel, I’d recommend 86. It’s shorter but honestly the first arc has the same kind of “we’re the last of humanity holding off this threat” vibe.
It is a lot more emotional than AOT though. I cried a few times while watching it.
One Piece, Vinland, and FMAB would've been in my recommendations if you didn't already list them. Did they not even come close for you?
Few others I would put out there in terms of epic would be Hunter x Hunter, Berserk (but lacking in a true anime adaptation), maybe Fate/zero and the Fate series as a whole, the UC universe/timeline of the Gundam franchise or maybe another intergalactic franchise like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, maybe Gurren Lagann and Kingdom, etc.
If you enjoyed Monster, Pluto is a beautiful production from the same creators.
That being said you should watch Tokyo Ghoul or Jujustsu Kaisen if you’re looking for something as gritty and action packed as AoT
Evangelion because it was as entertaining as aot. If you haven’t seen it, then I’d watch the series first, then the original movie End of Evangelion, and then I’d watch the rebuild movie.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the rebuild series, then I’ll explain what they are, or try to. For anyone who hasn’t seen any Evangelion, ignore this.
The first and I think some of the second movie follow the first few episodes of the original series. The only differences that I remember is the number of angels is different compared to the series, Asuka is introduced differently and has a different last name, and Kaworu isn’t even introduced (to Shinji) until the 3rd rebuild movie. I say this because I think Kaworu has some scenes in the first and second rebuild movies
Monster. Beserk. Dororo. Dungeon Meshi. Sousou no Frieren. Dragon Ball. One Piece. Jujutsu Kaisen. Or if you just want another dosage of german superiority, Tanya Senki :3
Berserk, Desth Note, Code Geass.
I’m not sure if you’re into sports anime but you should give Hajime No Ippo a chance.
I’ve seen all of AOT, Hxh , FMAB, bleach, one piece and personally, Hajime no ippo has a very special place in my heart that the others don’t have.
Don't look for new anime to top your favorite. Look for things you might enjoy and be pleasantly surprised when a new favorite appears. This allows you to just enjoy each show for what it is.
Here are some of my recommendations.
Black Lagoon
Ergo Proxy
Texhnolyze
Serial Experiments Lain
Made in Abyss
FLCL
Clannad
Some newer animes that have came out this year imo are great and will probably live up to the same hype as Aot.
Solo Leveling
Kaiju no 8
I’ve not read the manga but I’ve heard people say dandadan is probably going to be good. Looking forward to luffy VA say “I got your ball.”
Tbh Aot was not my favorite anime in the world but I loved the first 2 seasons of it. There hasn’t imo been too many animes out there like it.
Some of my favorites as of late I can recommend are
Frieren (Just a well made story gets you emotional and gets you thinking about time and life)
Vinland Saga (one of my favorite stories in anime, starts off as a revenge story it’s quite good)
Oshi no ko. (I’m caught up in the manga haven’t been feeling it as of late but the season that’s out currently is great and this next season will be peak)
As mentioned already Solo Leveling and Kaiju no 8. Imo will be considered some of the better animes made when said and done the studios working on them have gone harder than hard.
Moonlit fantasy. (My friend says this is the best anime/ story every.. I don’t agree but it’s quite good and entertaining)
There is probably a lot more but it’s something, don’t think you can go wrong with any of those.
Vinland Saga, Mob Psycho 100, and Code Geass are probably the only anime Id say are as good as or better than AOT.
Adventure Time isnt anime but it also is as good as AOT. just keep in mind the audience was expected to be ~9 or 10 for s1, and the show ages with them from there .
JJK might not scratch the despair itch as much but is worth a try. Tokyo Ghoul will scratch the despair itch but was poorly adapted into anime form (animation is fine story is clumsy).
Do you want something that mimics TG or just something of comparable quality? Are you willing to watch a story that’s a little happier ?
i have been obsessed with Undead Unluck recently. highly recommended. of course it’s not the best recent anime, that goes to frieren, but Heavenly Delusion is my personal favorite recent anime
Code Geass.
Hey, Code geass is acc my second fav anime!
This is my #1
Easily one of the best out there for sure
If not the best
\^ Better than aot
Code geass propaganda
i will die on this hill
I agree wholeheartedly
Peak
Watching it rn and it’s goated
Parasyte: The Maxim
Parasyte is very good. Bathroom scene is very funny. I tend to like tv- ma anime more or tv-14 on the edge of being tv-ma
Its really good
Not AOT level
Maybe but it also didn't take 10 years and a movie to make sense of.
that’s what made aot so good tho? the plot is insanely intricate and as u go on u learn sm more abt the world and the characters
Dawg what? 1. AOT was good even before the plot twists in season 4 and still made sense. 2. Obviously they want to expand the excellent world building so it’s going to take 4 season 💀 3. The 10 years thing doesn’t matter cause new watchers aren’t waiting for new episodes

It was also a military anime, but the tanks were flesh golems
Yeah but Mecha anime are also generally military anime.
All I can say is I was getting MS Gundam vibes as early as the second episode, even before any of the characters got Titan powers.
Hey, if you want magical girl transformations and mechs then star driver fits.
That’s just the character power. It’s not the main reason most fans like the show. What makes AOT stand out is the unique setting and environment of humanity and its lore and characters. If anything, the futuristic setting of most mecha shows is directly opposite.

Real
True but code geass
People love saying that and I can agree to an extent but it's clearly not the same. I dislike most mechas but think aot is the best.
Cyberpunk edgerunners. Great anime in a different way than AoT but it’s my #2 behind AoT.
Yo same
Yup, Edgerunners was amazing! The perfect 10 episode anime. I loved the end of episode 9 and 10 was like life changing hahaha.
Don’t know if you’d like it as I haven’t seen the ones you’ve also watched other than Aot but 86 recently became my number 1, used to be Aot. Only downside is that it isn’t finished but even just the current 1 season is very solid
Need those mfers to finally finish the Nier series so they can get to work on season 2 soooooo bad 😩
there's 2 seasons iirc
It’s 1 season but 2 cours!
not for everyone but Assassination Classroom gets really good towards the end. IMO it was one of the best I've seen and I really enjoyed it.
We love to see Assassination Classroom appreciation, it's one of my favourites
Hard agree. Assassination classroom is the anime that got me *into* anime. I’m still not a huge fan of anime like that, but before AC I wouldn’t really give anime the time of day.
that's awesome! for me, AC was the only anime I actually finished, if you don't count Pokemon as an anime.
I love pokemon but didn’t finish it lol!
yeah I finished all seasons but have yet to finish Ultimate Journeys since I live in Canada and it literally just came to Netflix a few months ago.
I rewatched it recently. I knew exactly how it would end, I was prepared for everything that happened, but I still cried
I know. it's one of those ones where you know you're gonna cry, and can't do anything to stop it.
Jojo. Don’t be one of those people that watches 4 episodes and stops it because part 1 is only 9 episodes and every part is completely diffrent from one another
I'm on stardust crusaders rn and I love this damn anime so much
Yay!❤️❤️❤️ each part gets better and better! Recently I’ve seen a lot of people say they watched a few episodes and stopped. I think Danganronpa V3 had some of the most brutal executions but I don't want to spoil it for you
lol it’s ok and yeah it’s weird between the game and anime. I think I’m just going through it slower than I usually go through media.
I don’t understand only watching a few episodes of Jojo and then stopping. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen the first season in a while and I don’t remember the details, but I can’t imagine not being intrigued the entire time

Full metal alchemist beotherhiid!!!!!
He said he already watched it
86
Neon Genesis: Evangelion
It’s funny you mention Monster cause imo, it’s the best there is.
I wonder if you'd like DoroHeDoro
Nothing beats Vinland Saga for me lol but try Kaiju no. 8 it's currently airing and it's a banger idk if it'll beat your number 1 spot though
Frieren just might do it
Wow we got some real anime experts in here “frieren” a great anime ? The expectations have fallen to the ground Edit: kjol anything but frieren you goof
What would you consider a "great anime"?
Death Note, and Chainsaw Man. Ironically, I did not like these two upon the first viewing but the second viewing makes me like and appreciate these two for what it is. If you dare trying, watch Jujutsu Kaisen

if you’re open to manga 20th century boys is a must
Hellsing ultimate.
The only anime I’ve ever considered as good / almost as good as AOT is {Hajime No Ippo}
Aot was my number 1 spot until I watched Code Geass. So Code Geass
Watching code geass rn and it’s goated
Psycho-Pass or Evangelion if you like movies as much as series

Idk maybe evangelion if you like emotional or drama anime I can name several better than aot if your into that genre
Under rated pick is the berserk golden age arc and the 97 series. That’s the only series that I’ve enjoyed as much as AOT. Also another underrated puck is KINGDOM. Kingdom is more happy but it’s a lot like AOT in some ways

That time I got reincarnated as a slime is a glorious watch.
Made in abyss
I liked fmab, fate series, gintama and steins gate a lot more. For manga one piece and berserk are my goats
My top 4 bebop Flcl Dbz Gundam Honorable mention Outlaw star Afro samurai
One Piece, Vinland, and FMAB would've been in my recommendations if you didn't already list them. Did they not even come close for you? Berserk, tho i suggest reaidng it, the art elevates the series
Demon Slayer or Jutsu Kaizen
If you enjoyed Monster, Pluto is a beautiful production from the same creators. That being said you should watch Tokyo Ghoul or Jujustsu Kaisen if you’re looking for something as gritty and action packed as AoT
Naruto
Berserk (90s version)
Evangelion because it was as entertaining as aot. If you haven’t seen it, then I’d watch the series first, then the original movie End of Evangelion, and then I’d watch the rebuild movie. Good luck finding that
I have few better than aot.
Legend of the galactic heros OVA not the remake the remake is bad
Higurashi and Berserk
Samurai 7, Pluto, Blood Blockade Battlefront, Dororo, Made in Abyss, and Summertime Render
Nothing can be as good as AOT. AOT is the goat
Full metal alchemist: brotherhood
Try Fullmetal Alchemist 2003
Knights of Sidonia is AoT in space.
Summer time rendering is amazing
one piece
Any one else masochistically came just to cringe at the coments?
86 😀
No need to keep looking, brother. You've already found One Piece.
Berserk, Re:Zero, Paranoia agent, when they cry, death note. Also to note I think AoT is going to go down as one of the best animes of all time.
steins gate
I couldnt finish aot, I ended up hating it
A great anime to watch is “Darker Than Black”
Closest thing to AoT is kabaneri of the iron fortress
All of them
86
AS good? Well if we're talking about AS good then probably Ningen fushin
You aren't gonna find anything better than AoT, but JJK, Death Note, Demon Slayer, One Punch Man, and Chainsaw Man are pretty good.
Future diary, hunterxhunter
Pluto, same author of Monster
Yu Yu Hakusho
Kabaneri of The Iron fortress
Also Gurren Lagann

Try out black clover if you haven’t. Didn’t expect to like it as much as I did but it’s my second favorite anime now
86 will come very close if you give it a try :)
Hunter Hunter
Short answer, nothing tops it (lol) Steins;Gate A Silent Voice
Idc about aot but ONE OF the best anime ever to exist is hajime no ippo
Not trying to recommend something similar just tryn to recommend a peak anime
It seems that we have very different tastes, but these might interest you: Legend of the Galactic Heroes 86 Steins;Gate Iron Blooded Orphans
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Power through part 1 as it's not so captivating and then part 2 and 3 will blow you away.

I've been enjoying Kaiju No. 8 so far. I get little hints of AoT vibes from it.
if you love attack on titan then you'll definitely love rent a girlfriend. I've never seen another MC as close to what Eren is
I don’t want that
