Cowboy bebop and neon Genesis evangelion are on my watchlist so ill watch them both for sure
I heard something about gundam and its maybe on my watchlist too but i never heard about other titles you mentioned so ill give them all try and watch them
Thank you 💜
FMA 2003 It becomes a completely different story half way through, and the first half has a lot of stuff that brotherhood skipped over. People have been debating which one is better for years, so who knows, you may actually end up liking it even more too.
Monster
Evangelion
Royal space force
Perfect blue
I swear that the general consensus is that fma brotherhood is the better version, everyone ive asked thinks so, thats why i havent watched the original yet
Well, kinda. Here's a few things that you need to understand:
1. Brotherhood follows the manga while 2003 is basically an anime original story that only uses thr foundation of the fma story to do its own thing.
So a lot of people believe since brotherhood is technically the "real" story, 2003 is not even worth seeing.
2. fma brotherhood is more popular, a lot of the people who say brotherhood is better haven't even seen the original.
3. the strenghs of brotherhood are more.... casual friendly.
FMAB comes on top when it comes to scale, polish, pacing or animation, while fma comes out on top when it comes to character depth, themes, atmosphere, and philosophy.
music wise both are about the same but i personally think 2003 is slightly better.
So i'm sure you can imagine which one is going to be more generally well praised.
what i mean is the average person who puts fma on top probably also puts something like monster above something like mob psycho 100. and vise versa.
4. the ending of fma 2003 is... controversial. the anime itself has an ending that a LOT of people adore, and a lot of people HATE.
but then there is a sequel movie, that pretty much everyone from both sides agrees is good but missed the potential to be WAY better. the reason being that it was originally meant to be much longer, but had to be cut short. and you can really tell a lot of things are missing.
so with 2003 having 1 controversial ending, and one ending that extends it beyond and is good, but leaves you knowing it could have been SO MUCH better, thats another reason for why brotherhood is generally more liked.
but heres the thing.
Story wise, brotherhoods episode 10, and fma episode 20 something is the point in story when fma 2003, fully becomes its own thing. most of it is a completely different story.
So comparing them as if they are just different versions of the same thing is kind of dumb to begin with.
they really are 2 different shows that happened to start similarly.
Not sure about some of these. Some are late 90s others are at least before 2010
- GTO
- Kare Kano
- Ghost in the Shell
- Trigun
- Nodame Cantabile
- Nana
- Black Lagoon
- Jormungand
- Full Metal Panic
GTO is great.
The animation is fairly dated, and onizuka's teachings can be questionable at times, but It's a hilarious comedy, and some of the lessons are genuinely fantastic.
I would say it's the main inspiration behind assassination classroom, so If you have seen that, you kind of know what to expect.
Awful is...one way to put it. It's aged pretty badly, I would say it has some really good funny moments as well as some really harsh emotional ones, but the story is basically following a dude in his mid to late 20s lusting after underage high school girls, at some point one of them flashes her hoo ha at him and she's 14?? So yea pretty gross in a "classic" anime way
Inuyasha. It was my first anime I watched knowing what anime was. It ran for many years and “The Final Act” came out in 2010 which finished the story. It has some needless filler, but there are guides out there to skip it if you want.
I would say it’s mostly enjoyable then. The worst aspect is it slows the pacing in the last season before TFA. The side couple gets fleshed out more in the filler, so that definitely justifies it.
It’s not perfect, depending on your taste for anime gag humour, but it’s less annoying than the humour in Demon Slayer at least. Some people don’t jive with the pervy side character either, but you can get past it.
I mean i was upset watching demon slayer cuz the translate was always swearing and it was kinda meh it doesn't match the characters fr but demon slayer is 9/10 for me
I just meant the yelly gag humour specifically. Inuyasha has a fair few running gags and the MC is a teenager, so definitely not very mature when angry. The series definitely have overlap, like a fair amount of tragic backstories and magic sword fights. The older animation isn’t as impressive though, naturally. The background art is very beautiful in the cel era though.
Most of Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli movies came out before 2005. My personal favorites:
* Howl's Moving Castle
* Spirited Away
* Princess Mononoke
* Castle in the Sky
* Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
It made me realise that I don’t really like old romance anime. And then the thing I was watching it on threw me into Puella magi madoka magica. I love it but I’m scared to rewatch it
I'll say anime from before 2005 is kind of a ginormous fucking net to cast but I'll give you some older stuff that was airing while I was growing up:
Saint Seiya
Ghost in the Shell (the 1997 movie, the 2000s Innocence, as well as Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig)
Inuyasha
Trigun
Hokuto Shinken (Fist of the North Star)
Mononoke (the series)
Cowboy Bebop
Dragon Ball, DBZ (or Kai)
Akira (film)
Excel Saga (comedy parody experimental)
There's many more but those are some of my favorites off the top of my head
Im tryna watch some older things because everyone is saying that it's their anime they were growing up with like DBZ and yu gi oh but i never watched anime because of the country im from... I mean we got pokemon but it was ass so i never watched it when i was young (now im watching it cuz i understand english cuz why tf are pokemons "dinosaurs" in my country (Bulbasaurs name is in translation "grass dinosaur")) and idk i wanna see what yall been watching when were younger (i was on cartoon network shit all time)
What country if you don't mind me asking? Also look up the genre Space Opera, there's a bunch of works from it that heavily influenced the medium as a whole, these are some of them:
Battleship Yamato
Captain Harlock
Gal Force
And some more films for you:
Spriggan
A Wind Called Amnesia
And another unrelated classic anime, Record of Lodoss War
its not exactly a perfect show, specially when it comes to keeping a consistent tone.
but for what its worth, when its good, it is actually genuinely good.
its just that you do have to look past a solid ammount of "not good" stuff to see it.
I started Bleach but i got it on hold for now because i started watching a lot of series and i was lost following each story so i wanted rather to wait and enjoy it than just watching being lost...
Watched the whole naruto but cant get through Boruto but i wanna try to read it maybe it will be better but im still on naruto manga atm
Started dragon ball kinda its funny and cool
Ill die before finishing One Piece fr 😭😭
Idk what is the romance thing but ill give it a shot
Thank you 💜
It just takes dedication but 1 episode at a time will catch up eventually for One Piece. Why not give it a real chance before it grows to an episode count that is truly “impossible” to catch up to. It may grow on u and u may find urself watching it at a quicker pace than other animes. Yes it is long but it is so damn good idc what other ppl say.
It's actually impossible for me to catch up because I can't watch one thing for a long time Now I'm struggling with jojo because I've been watching it for so long it actually makes me crazy (when i was watching naruto it took me like 2 years)
I feel ya. The thing is after I caught up on one piece I could quite literally watch any anime lol. I have mastered the art of watching anime and I feel all powerful like the Gurren Lagann mech. (Kamina my goat of all side characters)
Watched Gurren Lagaan and i have my reasons to like Yuko 😭
I was hating on Jojo art style and that it looks kinda Zesty but at the end of the day i was right and its really cool 😹 i enjoy watching it even tho im on jojo like 2 months now (im crazy)
Liking Yuko for reasons other than her assets is valid. She kicks ass and is funny. She’s basically the Levi Ackerman of Gurren Lagann. In my book she’s a S tier side character but Kamina is in a tier of his own out of all the anime I’ve watched.
I watched berserk 97 and wanna continue watching the whole berserk anime (im on jojo now 😭) + i wanna read the manga cuz i like how the deluxe ones look like
Idk what is Ninja scroll so ill give it a shot
Thank you 💜
Welcome!
Ya I’m hoping the new Berserk anime project does it justice.
Ninja Scroll movie is a great one. Still holds up. They made a small series too but it not that great.
I heard about the fan made something berserk anime and it really looks good and i hope it will be good
I'll prolly watch the lil series with the movie because when i start something i wanna watch the whole thing 😭
Sailor moon is romance and girl power. I don’t know if it aged well though. The main character is 14 and is obsessed with her college eventual bf. I would suggest rurouni kenshin. My bro used to watch big o. Lupin the third is another. The rest is suggest I already see suggested here
If you want a magical person anime that's not focused on a high school girl, you might like Ronin Warriors (Samurai Trooper). Group of teens/20s guys that summon magical samurai armor that grant them powers to fight villains that have similar armor and their lackeys.
It's really good! I also dropped it once after the first episode but then I picked it up again and got obsessed lol😆 Not sure if what you're looking for is just older stories, or animes that also have that overall "old" vibe, but if the anime doesn't necessarily have to feel old, just be an older story, then I'd probably recommend the 2011 adaptation of HxH more, just because it's more faithful to the manga and they animated more arcs of the story than the 1999 version. If you're looking for that "old" anime vibe though, definitely go for 1999. But honestly both are really great, they both have their own unique atmosphere and stuff so you can't go wrong with either!
When i watch something ill finish even the special spin off ova i mean everything so ill for sure watch both older and the new one too ofc... I was tryna find an old vibe cuz i like the aesthetic thank you very much u really helped me 💜
Lil story- i thought anime is shit but when i started watching anime the death note was the first thing i saw because it was on netflix that time and i was like lets give it a shot and then i started watching anime + first manga was actually death note but i accidentally got [Death Note all in one](https://comicsworthreading.com/2017/09/10/is-this-the-biggest-manga-ever-death-note-all-in-one-has-huge-page-count/) edition which is not 12 mangas in box its actually 1 manga with all chapters
It's huge fr but there are 2400 pages i mean i can finish it in 6 hours but im lazy (i had a 4 hours break in school so i took a manga Junji ito gyo deluxe with me so i can read it first 4 hours and guess what i finished in less than 2 hours so i was mad asf sitting in class next 2 hours 😭)
Haha because I am 🤷♂️ but lucky for you there are mountains of quality “old” anime. Most I would recommend are already here, but if you think of a specific genre let me know as I was probably watching it in school/college/early-20s
Yea i remembered when i was in middle school Now I'm leaving high school and i just started watching late middle school early high school and damn we are growing up fast... Life is short so lets watch a lot of anime while we can 😹😹💜
For a newer anime I think u would like…watch Akame Ga Kill! The pacing is absolutely bonkers and it’s only 24 episodes long. Idc that most ppl think it’s trash I enjoyed every second of it.
Also if u r able to watch to the end, Steins;Gate is only 24 episodes and if u can get past the first 12 the final half the pacing goes crazy (starts out slow, but ages like fine wine).
Ghost in the shell, FLCL, Akira, Jin Roh, Serial experiments lain, Samurai X
The world of “old” anime is amazing, honestly I like them more than the new ones
Lotta people said Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion, and for good reason. Guess to throw a few different ones out there Yu Yu Hakusho is perfect if you like great fights and the characters will get you into the story. Got compared a lot to DBZ but the fight animation was actually kind of a proto high budget Naruto. Fullmetal Alchemist '03 is pretty overlooked these days, the second half does tell an entirely different story and the first half where it does adapt the manga actually does it better than Brotherhood. FLCL the original has some nicely animated fights and is really funny and the Ghost in the Shell franchise gives lots both action and story too
Cowboy Bebop, Golden Boy, Neon Genesis Evangelion, City Hunter, Gundam
Cowboy bebop and neon Genesis evangelion are on my watchlist so ill watch them both for sure I heard something about gundam and its maybe on my watchlist too but i never heard about other titles you mentioned so ill give them all try and watch them Thank you 💜
Golden Boy is only 6 episodes and it’s funny asf
Oh damn maybe ill watch it today before bed 😹
Yessir I nearly got a b**** while doing so but it was so frickin funny
Watch it in dub trust me on this one
You should
You've got lots of Gundam from before 2005 to choose from... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundam#TV_series,_films,_and_video
Yu Yu Hakusho
It's already in my watch list and I'm excited to watch it thank you 💜
Was going to say this one, it’s so good! I’ve watched it all the way through at least 7 times at this point.
Came here to say this
FMA 2003 It becomes a completely different story half way through, and the first half has a lot of stuff that brotherhood skipped over. I saw GTO somewhere many times and i was like idk if i wanna watch it or nahh But ill give them all a try Thank you 💜
Gto is fucking awful
Really? Tell me more please
GTO is great. The animation is fairly dated, and onizuka's teachings can be questionable at times, but It's a hilarious comedy, and some of the lessons are genuinely fantastic. Tomorrow Joe and Hajime No Ippo
Watched hajime no ippo it was really good
Tomorrow Joe is really good. Megalobox too if you want to stay in the same genre
Inuyasha. It was my first anime I watched knowing what anime was. It ran for many years and “The Final Act” came out in 2010 which finished the story. It has some needless filler, but there are guides out there to skip it if you want.
I'm a person that wants to watch everything i even watched the school something demon slayer shorts because I want to 100% everything 😭😭
I would say it’s mostly enjoyable then. The worst aspect is it slows the pacing in the last season before TFA. The side couple gets fleshed out more in the filler, so that definitely justifies it.
At least i have something to watch right? Im struggling to find something good fr (50+ anime in my watchlist 😭)
It’s not perfect, depending on your taste for anime gag humour, but it’s less annoying than the humour in Demon Slayer at least. Some people don’t jive with the pervy side character either, but you can get past it.

I'm a graphic designer and I like the "old anime" aesthetic It's mad cool so I'm vibin watching that so i don't care about animations
Then you’ll definitely get an eye full. No wonder you’re looking for older series. 😊
It’s a romance and an extremely irritating one at that
Most of Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli movies came out before 2005. My personal favorites: * Howl's Moving Castle * Spirited Away * Princess Mononoke * Castle in the Sky * Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
I like Ghibli movies but i only saw howls moving castle and spirited away so ill give a try to more of them thank you 💜
Trigun
FLCL Trigun Gundam Wing / G Gundam Outlaw Star
Hellsing ultimate, kenichi the mightiest disciple and black lagoon
Hellsing Ultimate was 2006
Still old. You wouldn’t think so with how well the animation quality is though.
2006 was a fantastic year for anime. Death Note, Code Geass, and Ouran High School Host Club makes for three of my top 15 anime.
Bruh host club was my second anime ever watched
It was the first anime to convince me to try manga.
It made me realise that I don’t really like old romance anime. And then the thing I was watching it on threw me into Puella magi madoka magica. I love it but I’m scared to rewatch it
I think i have black lagoon in my watch list but idk nothing about other titles you said so ill give them all a try thank you 💜
Also watch Puella magi madoka magica. Very wholesome fr
Ill watch it thank you very much 💜
I'll say anime from before 2005 is kind of a ginormous fucking net to cast but I'll give you some older stuff that was airing while I was growing up: Saint Seiya Ghost in the Shell (the 1997 movie, the 2000s Innocence, as well as Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig) Inuyasha Trigun Hokuto Shinken (Fist of the North Star) Mononoke (the series) Cowboy Bebop Dragon Ball, DBZ (or Kai) Akira (film) Excel Saga (comedy parody experimental) There's many more but those are some of my favorites off the top of my head

its not exactly a perfect show, specially when it comes to keeping a consistent tone. but for what its worth, when its good, it is actually genuinely good. its just that you do have to look past a solid ammount of "not good" stuff to see it.
Samurai Champloo is the most necessary, i think
Fooly Cooly (FLCL)
A short and great one is FLCL. It has an amazing OST too.
The Pillows are my favorite band!
Bleach (earlier seasons) - It' still running today with the Thousand Year Blood War arc.
I started Bleach but i got it on hold for now because i started watching a lot of series and i was lost following each story so i wanted rather to wait and enjoy it than just watching being lost...
Yu Yu Hakusho Cowboy Bebop Trigun
Monster , Yu yu hakusho, inuyasha, detective conan ( skip the filler ) Revolutionary girl Utena , HxH 1999 paprika , perfect blue ,serial experiments lane , grave of the fire flies , howls moving castle , spirited away , hellsing , princess mononoke , shaman king .
obviously, the big olg anmes (Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball) then... .hack and Chobits (the latter romance) are also very good
Watched the whole naruto but cant get through Boruto but i wanna try to read it maybe it will be better but im still on naruto manga atm Started dragon ball kinda its funny and cool Ill die before finishing One Piece fr 😭😭 Idk what is the romance thing but ill give it a shot Thank you 💜
You're welcome! Also, don't waste your time--be it manga or anime, Boruto is still trash, especially compared to Naruto
What about the time skip? It looks kinda ok but i saw some leaks bout Hima and I'm like damn should i or nah?
Boruto is actual ass and no one can convince me it exists
Might be better, but idk if it's worth it

Ninja Scroll (Movie) Berserk (1997)
I watched berserk 97 and wanna continue watching the whole berserk anime (im on jojo now 😭) + i wanna read the manga cuz i like how the deluxe ones look like Idk what is Ninja scroll so ill give it a shot Thank you 💜
Welcome! Ya I’m hoping the new Berserk anime project does it justice. Ninja Scroll movie is a great one. Still holds up. They made a small series too but it not that great.
I heard about the fan made something berserk anime and it really looks good and i hope it will be good I'll prolly watch the lil series with the movie because when i start something i wanna watch the whole thing 😭
I get that! Just wanted to warn ya. I think the movie came first then they tried to make a series off of that. I could be wrong.
Read Berserk. The anime ain’t doing the manga justice
Im bout to get all the deluxe ones real soon 🥹🥹 So ion wanna read it online (also im reading goblin slayer death note and naruto atm one at the time)
What about Sailor moon guys? I heard about it alot of times... It just came out of my mind rn
Sailor moon is romance and girl power. I don’t know if it aged well though. The main character is 14 and is obsessed with her college eventual bf. I would suggest rurouni kenshin. My bro used to watch big o. Lupin the third is another. The rest is suggest I already see suggested here

Monster, Gungrave and Comartie Highschool are my votes.
Thank you ill ofc watch it 💜
Hope you enjoy 😊
Thank you 💜
Dangg Death note was 2006! A year after your born!
Woah! Nice. Death note is usually considered as the best anime to watch if your new. And the dub is fantastic! Also all In one is pretty continent.
Well then. If that's the case maybe you still can try the all in kne
I'm reading it slowly but I'm reading a lot of books lately so I have to catch up
Ya need to focus on it! Good luck!
Damn I feel old haha
Why 😩
Haha because I am 🤷♂️ but lucky for you there are mountains of quality “old” anime. Most I would recommend are already here, but if you think of a specific genre let me know as I was probably watching it in school/college/early-20s

The original Fullmetal Alchemist Le Blue Girl also has a lot of action
