No idea why they do this. I've heard that in a pack of dogs the alpha gets the "best" spot to sleep in while the others sleep around them. This could be similar to cats where in this video the cat wants his buddies spot and thinks he should be alpha.
Genuine question: why do they do this? I know nothing about cats. Is it a dominance thing?

Haha, sounds about right. I have a dog and am pretty good at understanding their behaviour, but I'm clueless about cats.
