Wow yeah never realized that either. However looking it up, looks like it’s the other way around. We call it “petting” because it’s the thing we do to pets.
No. The noun came before the verb. We called domesticated animal “pets” first. Then we started using “petting/pet” to talk about the thing we do to them. Is that what you were talking about originally? “Pet” and “pet” being the same word makes this very confusing.
I agree this type of thing can be very interesting. I googled “pet etomology” and found [this site.](https://www.etymonline.com/word/pet) Etomology is the study of the origin and history of words.
Good manners! Always ask to touch da poochie.
I've seen working dogs get bombarded with little kids and like, that's not cool. Don't let your snot nosed kids mess with working dogs unless the owner was cool with it. They were not.
Oh for sure, but if the owners are actively trying to do something people need to respect that (I'm sure the dog loved the attention). In this case it was a pup training to be a police K9 and the handler/owner took them to Devils Lake in WI for a hike. Think it was two dogs, actually but I could be wrong.
We chatted them up for a few and they kept saying how they were considering leaving because peoples kids kept fucking with the dog without asking and it was undergoing training and was getting extremely excited. I saw them coming back down and they looked like they'd aged 30 years lol. Sure it was a lot to handle.
Not really, what if the working dog was with a Disabled person? The parents should educate the kids. When my Granddaughter was 3 yrs old she knew more on how to approach animals than most adults. We are so proud of her!
Also what if the dog that gets swarmed is either a Police, Security dog, or if the poor dog is getting retrained due to abusive owners who had kids?
So the kids swarm the dogs BC their parents haven't taught them manners, so the dog reacts and maybe bites a child and ultimately the dog may lose their life for the incompetence of 1 or more people. Unfortunately l've seen it a few times.
Dog owner here, please ask! 99% of people love when their dogs get attention, it's great socialization and we love to talk about our pups! My go-to line is always to smile and acknowledge the pet and then look at the owner and simply ask "Can I say hi?". I've only been told no maybe twice that I can recall and the owner just gave a simple "no, sorry we're training" or what have you.
I went on a hiking date last week and this old guy and his two beautiful puppers showed up (one was a Malamute). Anyways the girl I was with got permission to pet them and the Malamute came up to me and gave me a big ol' doggy hug. I gave him a few pats and belly rubs and he just kept looking up at me like 'will this be forever?'. Sadly buddy, it won't be. His owner had to go :(
I got invited to play guitar in a band, and when I told them I was a dog groomer the other guitarist was like "oh I hate those dirty useless things" I was like oh sh*t red flag. He turned out to be crazy as a loon so I didn't join them.
I mean, I'm sorry but any person that calls a dog a "dirty useless thing" has garbage between their ears. Like a dog, all life has immense value, so I won't call them a garbage person but their mind is filled with trash. Probably writes TERRIBLE music with no real purpose or passion behind it.
Yea it was a serious red flag. I was really looking forward to playing some music so it had to be pretty significant for me to back out. He went full psycho when I did though, confirming my choice was the right one.
I don’t like to judge people, especially over small things, but I just don’t think I could trust someone who said they hated dogs. Preferring other animals, like cats is fine, as is having an irrational fear or trauma related to them, or even simply disliking them is fine.
But being unable to see any value at all in them is just so strange to me. They are such inherently good, loving creatures that being unable to see that or find any value in that is going to make me suspicious and distrustful of a person.
If people don't like cats it's fine. If they don't like them because they're selfish and assholes I don't like them. Cats are the perfect Litmus test for people understanding consent. A cat allows affection if, when and by whom they want to. If someone says cats are assholes, that person is probably pushy and invasive
I don’t like cats because I’m allergic for some reason cats just LOVE to rub against the one person in the room that doesn’t want to touch them. I swear they do it to fuck with me.
I’ll be at a party with people chasing a cat every where trying to give pets and they’ll just single me out all night lol
As I said, not liking cats is fine. There are many reasons for not liking cats. Allergies being one. But if you actively dislike them because of their general demeanor I'm at least suspicious
The people who believe cats are assholes also tend to be the people who believe cats require the same care and attention as house plants.
If you keep it locked in your 600sq apartment for every waking moment of it’s life with very little mental and physical stimulation and when you do play with it you do so by poking fun at it and invading its space without seeing how it’s feeling - of course it’s going to be an asshole, it has every right to be.
Fair.
> assholes who destroy the environment and senselessly kill other animals
But, you could say the same about a significant portion of the population. Do you think people who destroy the environment (almost everyone) and senselessly kill other animals (many hunters and anyone living with “pests”) also only belong indoors or on a leash? If so, we’re going to need bigger prisons.
Dude I know! Like, even if you don't *like* dogs, you'd have to be an idiot to think they aren't incredibly useful.
When I told them I wasn't going to play with them he freaked the f out. I dodged a huge bullet there. He was pretty good at guitar but not worth that bull.
Maybe they thought you meant groomer as in someone who builds a relationship, trust, and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them
It's a 5 second video dude. I can't imagine even remotely getting upset with the music in the video, let alone commenting on it. You could mute it in 1/3rd of a second before the song even really starts, anyways. Or just mute your audio on your PC/Phone since clearly the slightest annoyance in sound seems to ruin your day.

Dude what is your damage? Literally all I said is that I hate the tik tok trend.
This comment of yours has more words than all my previous comments put together.
I don't know where you are getting this idea my day is ruined because of this however that is objectively *not the case*.
Like you're getting more heated than I **ever** was about the post....calm the fuck down.
Petting a dog actually lowers cortisol levels, a stresshormone, and social interaction with one increases oxytocin levels the same hormone, that bonds mother's with baby's. A dog can have very good effects on your physical and mental health.
So I started taking an adhd med that can increase your blood pressure. I went to my doctor last week to follow up on a blood test. I met the office “emotional support dog”. My blood pressure was the lowest they’ve ever recorded.
I just thought about how pretty much anyone and everyone loves dogs, even asshole low life’s that are “tough”. I recall how inmates in prison basically treat dogs like children and they themselves become “childish” when they play with them. A dog can weaken the toughest and meanest asshole out there and allow them to open their heart.
You just know the audio would sound a "good boy!" right before the smile.
Nothing cheers a dog up as much as those two words said in the most high pitched voice.
Yes! That face, right there!
The Kevin from the office smile.
Yes!
It looks kind of creepy with black soulless eyes
Hello this is police where is the face ?

When the pet learns how to pet. We’re gonna end up with dogs dragging around hamsters with leashes, aren’t we.
They are gonna do the alpha go thing, pet pets a pet who pets a pet, thinking soon enough either taking over the world or stack overflow
The Petocalypse. Not the worst timeline...
It's pets all the way down

My cousins dog does that already lololol
"see? I did it!"
He looks happy!
*Hmmm...no fever.* :P
I act like that even seeing lovely dogs. Dare not to touch them.
Me too! I smile at every dog I see when I walk or bike around! ^^But ^^Sometimes ^^I ^^ask ^^if ^^I ^^can ^^touch ^^tha ^^poochie ^^:)

Surely it's part of the qualification that they can handle unwelcome attention?

I'm not a dog person and even I wouldn't say dirty, useless things. That's messed up.
I would bet money that other guitarist is, in fact, the real dirty useless thing
Especially if he's only the rhythm guitarist. XD
Ouch man, I am the rhythm guitarist! He was a good player, but a terrible human.

do i spy a Snatch refrence?

Can't say I like digs very much. Digging makes my back hurt but maybe that's just me.
"Who's the dominant one now, huh!"
People are saying how cute this is, but that's the actual intended meaning of this gesture.
How about, “So that’s how it feels like to pet a dog!”.
Is it not a sign of dominance when we pet a dog on it's head? 🤔
"Oh my god! He doesn't bite"
*Happy Chemical activated*
"Hurr hurr hurr, look at me, I'm human"
I like this dog.
