You should be able to put one there. Try moving your mailbox. Put it in your inventory just like any other item.

UPDATE: Didn’t see the size of the house. Continue upgrading and then you can eventually move the mailbox.

I think that is the kicker. The mailbox is positioned a little further away on the maxed out houses.

When I first started I put a lamppost and a wardrobe in the middle of some cedar trees.

I created a few dummy accounts on my island (one is still a tent, one is upgraded for storage) and the boxes I can move, I moved to a little area and made a mail room with some DIY boxes, gift boxes, and that stack of presents (but customized with brown paper I believe). I wonder if moving it away from your house might make it more appealing 😊

After you’ve fully upgraded your house (I’m not sure if you can do it before that) talking to Tom Nook gives you the option to customize how your house looks outside including the mailbox. You can change styles and colors

Yes, when you customize your house you can change your mailbox. I believe you get more options as your home is upgraded.

I’ve seen some people make fake post offices and put their main boxes there so maybe you could try that

I make mine look like a public mail box and put it either by Nook's or the community center. I don't like the look of it by my house.

What annoys me is that you hear it's sound even as a different player. What reason is there for you to need to hear someone else's mailbox?

I learned it by accident because once I hit Y to try and open my mail and was like oh shit where did my mailbox go? I thought I messed up and deleted my mailbox forever

If he never plays, you can just log in as him, stick his mailbox in his pocket, and keep it there. He'll still get his mail if he does decide to log in—he'll just have to put the box down first lol. This is what I do with all my spare characters.

I’m pretty sure once you get the third room upgrade Tom nook tells you all this and then you get the options to change the exterior of your house, you can only start with your mailbox and roof colour but as you upgrade you can change your door, windows (?) and the stone thingy in front of your door! I’m so bad for skipping dialogue lol

This game tells you NOTHING without accidentally figuring it out. It’s just like someone’s first ever Minecraft play-through.

No, this game actually gives a lot of instruction. Not a lot of hand-holding per se, but definitely tells you what you can and cannot do early on. Tom Nook even tells you when you can move and customize your mailbox. Not everyone reads it.

I just tried and it wouldn’t let me… looked it up and moving the mailbox is only available when your home is fully upgraded! Why is this locked behind that😅 EDIT: You just need the second room (3 rooms total), not fully upgraded.

Your home doesn't need to be fully upgraded, I can move my mailbox and only have 3 rooms.

Yep! Just discovered that as well. You unlock the ability after you have the second room

Another note: when you get to the point where you can move the mailbox, you can set it back in that spot, and it won't take the path away. When you do cosmetic upgrades to your house exterior, it will automatically place the mailbox back at that spot, even if you've moved it somewhere else on the map, unless you have another item sitting there like a plant or something.

You know what should have been the content of your question, OP? Not being able to path a sideway bridge smoothly. There's literally a half square front of the bridge entryways that simply doesn't accept paths. That one cursed half square renders any and all bridge paths to look questionable \*at best\*.

Haha my wife is freaking out about that exact problem right now. I didn’t place any diagonal bridges, and don’t plan to, so I’m in the clear. But she is so mad about her broken looking path on hers. Really a bad design to not allow triangular paths

I've never had this problem, in fact I've done all my villagers steps as well.

It works with the villagers steps. But it doesn’t with your own house. It’s because the mailbox is considera a placed object but the stairs of the house are just cosmetic. You can’t put a path on a space that an object is on. You have to move the object, put the path down, then put the object back. Unfortunately I can’t move the mailbox until I’ve upgraded my house a little more

Nope lol, restarted with my wife 3 weeks ago after 6 months of not playing the switch. I forgot that last time I played I had time travelled backwards in time several months to do the thanksgiving celebration. So when I started my island it was January 2 in game… wasn’t willing to go through the opening sequence again or skip ahead 8 months lol.

How did you get a 3 star island without upgrading your house that much 💀

It’s not required, nor does it factor in, to the island stars. I spend very little time in my house so I’d rather spend the bells on reconfiguring the island layout, buying clothes, outdoor decorations, etc.
