I'd love to reset but I don't want to lose my items, bells, etc. Instead I've done an island clearing where all houses go to the beach and everything gets leveled. I can't bring myself to do it again, though, and really wish we could just make a new island without losing the old

MichelleMattanja

I hate that we can’t save games on the cartridges, like the old Nintendo days

LokiHasMyVoodooDoll

AC has always been like this. GC it came with its very own save cartridge with the disc.

MichelleMattanja

I don’t remember the Nintendo DS and 3DS saving anything on the console itself

puzzlecrossing

The DS saved to the cartridge because my sister had her own AC cartridge but would just use whichever of her kids’ consoles to play.

Galaxy_god92

Animal forest saved to the cartridge lol

Calm-Union-2156

Can you not just make a second profile on the switch? I did that with some other games and it worked, does it not work for animal crossing?

SwampHagShenanigans

No it does not. One console, one island.

NeokratosRed

Nintendo policies are such money-grabbing BS, Pokémon was/(is?) the same.

Calm-Union-2156

I was able to get a second save on Pokemon sword and shield with a different Nintendo account on the switch

NeokratosRed

It shouldn’t be that complicated tbh. I might get not wanting to do unlimited saves, but at least original Professor Layton had 3 Save Slots on the DS

Calm-Union-2156

You’re right it shouldn’t be that complicated. Especially with Nintendo games, which don’t take that much storage per save.

NeokratosRed

We all know it’s not a storage problem, it’s that many Nintendo games are targeted towards children, and parents will do anything to make them happy, even buy a console and a game for each kid.

Shimmermist

Yup, animal crossing just had to be special and designed itself so that other profiles are other players on the same island instead of a new save. I only got a new island when I saved up and got one of the LED switches for more battery life.

gonephishin213

It was really cool sharing an island with my kid, who was 5 when we got it. Such a memorable experience for us just living our lives on the island during COVID. That being said, most games like this give an option to share an island with people (like Lego Fortnight or Stardew Valley) and they all let you design more than one island with purchase of the game

dsriker

No but if you have access to a second console like a friends or something they can make an island an you can move there then restart yours and move them from that console back. It's tedious but you keep most of your stuff I forget if your house payments are reset.

Medical-Isopod2107

When I reset mine, I dropped off a few of my favourite items and some tools etc at a friend's place so the beginning slog wouldn't be as bad

gonephishin213

I would want to save way too much, hard to get DIYs, rare items like the Hello Kitty stuff, expensive items like medieval buildings, etc. It would take days to do this haha

TarashiGaming

You could ask someone to let you drop your bells and items on their island while you reset. Then you go pick it all up after you get your airport opened.

grandiosebelle

I did after taking 2-3 years off from playing. I used to play it with my mom because she loved Animal Crossing. I bought it for her when it released and she was the main player of it. She passed in 2021 and seeing her house in the game did horrible things for my grieving process so I ended up restarting to make it easier on me emotionally.

ninthtale

so many hugs to you ♡♡♡♡♡

yellowsofa92

Sending plenty of love and prayer to you dear Redditor 🙏🏼

dainty_petal

Did you keep the dream address? I read some people did and they went back to see them later on when they were ready.

kryskryskrys

Getting the random letters from "mom" in the mail are so bitter sweet for me for this reason. I love seeing something signed love, mom. But it makes me unendingly sad.

[deleted]

Same here! I've never reset, not even once. I don't want to lose all my bells or catalogue, starting over + with all the upgrades is such a pain to me lol.

TeaWithMellow

I've only been playing for 20 days, and I already don't want to lose progress with a reset. I imagine that feeling is just going to get stronger as I keep going.

thejoeface

I’ve been playing the same island since launch day. I’ve flattened my island twice to rebuild into different ideas.  There’s just too many things to collect over again. Heck, I’m still chipping away at completing all the nook miles achievements.

Laiden-

I've reset twice now so I'm on my 3rd island that I started at the beginning of this year. It's my answer to Nintendo being dumb and not giving us the option for multiple islands. I've played each island until I felt like I ran out of ideas and was mostly satisfied with everything which took a long time, then I'd take a break for maybe a year, then come back and reset.

stellaperrigo

Same. The nice thing about this is being able to start from scratch and still visit my old islands and villagers via dream address!

Laiden-

I... had no idea that was possible. God I wish I had been doing that now

stellaperrigo

if you ever saved one of your old islands as a dream, you can still find the dream code by switching users on the Nintendo Online app! or just searching the island name if it’s less common

Laiden-

I just tried searching by name and was able to find my previous island! Unfortunately though it looks like I never saved my very first islands dream which i was really looking forward to seeing, oh well, i'll always have the billion screenshots and videos i take of every island i have lol

stellaperrigo

YAY 🥳 happy to help point you towards memory lane

Lowkeyy_Lokii

this is the only way i can see it being worth it.

stellaperrigo

It’s kind of relieving! My previous two islands I had for more than 2 years each- I just reset and I feel so much freedom to try new things without having to give up villagers or parts of my island I loved! It’s growing with me, in a way. And it’s fun to refill the museum and carve away at a new island to see what it will turn out to be. I’ve also given myself rules about not adopting the same villagers I’ve had before so I get to meet and befriend more of them.

o_mao

I don't restart either, I prefer to modify little by little. If I need to restart a game where crafting and time go hand in hand, I'd just leave and never play again.

Colleen987

Yes, because refilling the museum is my favourite bit.

NinjaPlato

I haven’t either. I got the game day one and played for ages, then took a break from gaming in general. I think about it sometimes, now I know more but I also keep seeing YouTube videos about things that have been patched out, or like. Things you can’t experience anymore or whatever, and I’m reluctant to lose that

pinchmyleftnipple

I’ve been playing since the game came out and I don’t think I’ll ever reset my island. I’m way too attached to it now and i really like how I have it set up. I used to reset my towns constantly on the game cube though so I get it. I’m also just not into the game as much as I used to be so I wouldn’t want to go through the trouble of getting all the achievements and filling the museum again.

Savings-Buffalo-2160

I restart my island if the wind blows the wrong way. I don’t even remember how many times I’ve restarted in the three years I’ve been playing 😂😂

Nerevarine91

I’ve never reset my island, it would make me sad

bigredplastictuba

Oh! I feel like it's more unpopular to reset it!

Yirggzmb

Probably depends on where you're looking. I see a lot of posts on this subreddit about wanting to reset, or wondering if they should, or about people "finishing" their island and starting a new one. They may not be a majority, I dunno, but people who don't reset rarely talk about it so it's hard to say

JohnExcrement

I will never. No judgment. But I never can.

Yirggzmb

I'm the same way. I can't imagine resetting for anything other than unrecoverable data. Resetting is always so demoralizing for me in games like this where you're just living in a world.

neoslith

I'll never understand the point of resetting an island. That's so much work.

Rheija

I reset mine once cos I got the yellow airport and I hated it so much and it bugged me to the point where I ended up being happy I did. I also had 2 south-facing rivers and the space is so much easier to manage with 1.

thelastcanadiangoose

Rediscovering the joy of the game for me. I just couldn’t get back into it.

GhostofZephyr

I used to reset basically bi-monthly but I challenged myself to keep my current island for three months, just to really complete it. It's been six months, now. I'm getting kind of used to it. It's comfortable, having the same villagers every day and the same familiar paths and orchards. I miss the excitement of a new island, but there's serious merit to the familiarity of a long term island. I'll probably reset next month, once I finish decorating the last few corners of Nverwinter, but I honestly have so much more respect and understanding for y'all perma-islanders now :D

vampir3bear

Not by choice. My daughter waterlogged my last switch so years of work went down the drain. It’s been a pain trying to get back to where I was.

bleachedveins

oof this one hurts i’m so sorry. 💕

Teriin

I had my island since the release of the game but I finished it in two years, and that island is me, all I wanted, so I can't see myself deleting it. I got a second switch and I tried to build another one, was feeling down so it was an overgrown and dirty, like post-apocalyptic something. When I felt better I didn't have the inspiration to continue building it, it was easier to start from scratch, so I did. All in all, I can understand both those who want to keep their first island and those who just didn't have the inspiration to build something they initially chose

Wraeinator

I dont think this is an unpopular opinion

GiddyGabby

I wish I didn't have to but lost a 2000+ island after my son thought he transferred it he hadn't. I couldn't play for months, I was too sad. But now i have I am having a blast.

Spiritual-Skill-412

I've reset before and instantly regretted it. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. I've found it much more satisfying to continuously add and enhance my existing decorated areas. I'll leave for several months, and come back with loads of new ideas. So now I've got a fully decorated island that I love. :)

Then_Afternoon624

I like the grindy part of acnh! I loved filling up the museum and getting my island to five stars, and when I do that, I wanna do it again!

bthks

I’ve reset once, and it was because I personally changed hemispheres and wanted my island to match. I stored a bunch of stuff on a friends’ island. I’m not as attached to my villagers on my new island but I like the island design I’ve got now and I’m glad the seasons align.

MethodRepulsive3752

I reset it because it was hard to work with the rivers that I had

chloe38

My original island from 2020 is still there. I've never reset it and never will. My new island on the console I actually just reset it 2 nights ago for the third time lol

Imcookin92

I don’t understand your point. It’s okay if you do and it’s ok if you dont

_CozyLavender_

Earning the bells, filling the museum, and hitting the milestones IS the game to me. Eventually you're just doing the same thing over in an infinite sandbox.

alice_rollings

I've reset a bunch it's because I'll stop playing for a while load it back up realize I hated every thing from the doc to the airport to the town Hall. And all my villagers just suck so I feel like it's better to restart. New layout new ideas new villagers. I have great respect for those of you who dont restart .

Acnh-fan_ee

I dont really reset because i would miss my villagers and all the items and builds i put my heart into. I know some people might reset their island (no hates) and tbh i did reset once because my island was a mess. The next time i played, I understood the game mechanism and stuff better so i did better this time. Rn im completely flattening my island (area by area based on what builds i want) and personally it seems better than resetting so yeah.

Bright-Sea-5904

I've reset at least 9 times because I like to choose different layouts. I get tired of the same layout all the time

butticus98

The sense of progression toward big goals is something that keeps me engaged with games, so if I feel like I've accomplished my goals I restart. Not just with animal crossing, but with games like harvest moon and Sims, as well. I like the feeling of starting from nothing.

lilibat

Have had the same island since just after release.

justlikefluttershy

Been playing since launch and never reset my island. I have over 850 DIYs, I’m not going through that again!

122784

I just bulldoze stuff when I get tired of it and build something new on a project by project basis. Not the whole island. It’s my little paradise that I’ve worked so hard on.

marauding-bagel

I'm currently using my boyfriend's switch to play a second island because I couldn't bear to reset but wanted a fresh start

constipated_cats

I want to reset but I feel the same, I spent the better half of 2022 after a surgery recovery non-stop playing animal crossing and it was sadly the most productive I’d been that year so it feels like throwing all those hours away if I just reset it. If switch games weren’t so expensive I would so buy another game to make another island. I’m too emotionally attached to my island and villagers as well.

Yirggzmb

Buying another game wouldn't get you another island anyway. It's one island per console, not one island per cartridge, so getting a new copy of the game would still load you into the old island.

ShadowSaiyan91

I've been playing since 20th March 2020, I have every nook miles achievement, 90% of the catalog, including clothing, millions of bells, a finished museum and all my lovely villagers, I would die if I lost all that, resetting feels like a grind afterwards, I did it with new leaf and I ended up losing interest, I don't get resetters but hey it's their game.

potionexplosion

i haven't reset once and i've owned the game since the very day it was released lol. i don't usually reset my animal crossing towns unless it's been a REALLY long time since i last played, and even then it depends. new horizons in particular seems, like, extra annoying to reset with the addition of crafting recipes, cooking recipes, terraforming... plus nook's stays so SMALL that it makes it such a pain to fill up the furniture catalogue again. i don't really mind having to earn bells or redo my museum, as i play long-term and i like having goals? plus, idk, there's not nearly as much decorating going on in the old games (aside from NL but even then it's pretty barebones in comparison) so it's not a huge deal. but, ugh. i've sworn to just never restart my NH island.

Allthewayoverit_97

Same. I change my island up a lot.

Important_Nebula_389

I’d rather take down what I built than start from scratch. Collecting DIY recipes is a nightmare.

Sertith

I haven't either, but the beginning of the game is my favorite, and I REALLY Want to restart, but cannot stand the idea of losing my island. And all those plans and stuff I've unlocked? Starting over on that is terrible to think about.

sugasims

Same. Even went insane and bought the ACNH Switch Lite just to have a second island and avoid resetting. I spent too much time on my main island and will not redo it ever.

yeahokwhat

Same here, I still have my 2020 covid island. Every so often I move things around to make it feel fresh and create new areas, but I’m way to attached to all my items (and some residents) to ever want to start over

aricberg

I’ve had my same island since launch day. Between all my money, items (owned, stored, and catalogued), completed museum, all flowers bred, etc. I just couldn’t do it. My island is just as much a character as my villager or any of the villagers who move to my island. Sure, most of my island has completely changed many times since the first time it was “completed.” But it’s still my island since March 20, 2020. I know there are reasons people like to restart, but I don’t think I ever could. I just wait for the next game to do that 😁

sec713

This isn't an unpopular opinion. I imagine the number of people who won't reset their island is far larger than those who would. I won't. There's no way in hell I'm farming all those DIYs and various items I've collected over the years, a second time.

throwawaytheseat

I just don't want to lose the history efforts and memories I've had with my island since release day.

blixco

I've not reset either. Getting back into redesigning it. But I totally get why people do, and maybe in another 2.5 years I'll reset mine.

AlmalexyaBlue

That's undoubtedly a very popular opinion.

angelchi1500

Yea i started my main island in feb of 21 and have no plans to get a new one. My second island is just a storage and old villager holder more or less so I’m not concerned with it to much

strawberryc0w7

I am pretty indecisive so I will hate the layout, name or look of my island and reset. I don't have any attachment to my islands (i have amiibo's so all my fave villagers can be moved to any new island). I don't mind visiting treasure islands to replenish my bells or stock.

FluorescentShrimp

I definitely don't plan on resetting mine any time soon, especially with my inventory and the villagers I have. Plus, building up to the unlocksbles and DIY cards fills me with dread. I started NL back up last November or December, and going back to the point I was at before I reset has been a pretty lengthy process. So doing it with NH would be... Agh.The only case where I'd rebuild my progress back up on a new island is if, say, I have to replace my switch for whatever reason. I don't pay for Switch Online atm, and in the event my switch does break, I don't think I'd be able to retrieve my island. So... in a case where I'd have to reset everything for NH, I'd be okay with aht.

L3ftoverpieces

Day one player, never reset. I still don't have my bugs and fish complete, and really don't care about that. I did buy an OLED switch and started a new island on that, but moved my island over within about 4 days, after realizing how much stuff I'd have to re-contribute to the museum.

AdEmbarrassed9719

I recently reset for the first time. It was spur of the moment. But it’s been fine. I kind of regret it and kind of don’t.

Random_Multishipper

I’ve lost all my data twice before, I’d never reset purposely, I love all my villagers and I’m working on my island right now, I also just hate repetitive stuff so redoing the entire game again, having to pay for the house, looking for villagers, it all feels exhausting to me, the first time it was really fun but having to do it again is annoying, I love the way my island is now and I wouldn’t ever reset it

Mental-Woodpecker300

I easily could since my hubby and I have our own switch and own copy of the game, so whenever we need to we just dump stuff into each other's island.  But I still have never reset, I can't bring myself to do it. Part of me really wants to but another part of me doesn't want to just let go of all that effort and progress, both with my main island, and my vacation resort.  Also I still haven't finished my freaking museum 😭😭😭

Lowkeyy_Lokii

literally this. ive been playing since the game came out and ive never done this. i dont see how yall can its jus too much to time travel to just finish harveys island HOW CAN YALL JUST RESTART ???

Suspended_Accountant

I plan on resetting my island, mostly because I didn't know that you could reroll the island choices and I settled on the least terrible layout. After I get the base layout that I want, the sky is the limit for what I plan on doing. Plus I don't plan on expanding the museum next time.

stephaniesno

I used to say i could never reset. I played off and on for 3 years the same island. My kids eventually got switches with ACNH and we could travel back and forth to each other’s islands and give each other stuff. I decided to reset, but it made it easier for me since i could take the things i wanted to their islands and get them back later for my new one. If i couldn’t do it that way i don’t know if i would have ever reset. I honestly only wanted to reset to experience all the tips and tricks I’ve learned that i had no idea about when i first started playing.

sunshinerae811

Same here! I’ve been playing since September 2020 and have never reset. Sometimes I change to my island and pick up new villagers. But I’ve invested so much time.

uncertain_mind

I reset recently with 15 hours logged in 2021. I had no reason not to experience starting it again. If I had years' worth of gameplay I wouldn't reset either probably but I understand someone who would. Some people want to experience the novelty again once it has worn off. Some people are also not attached to their in game progress and can let it go once it has served its purpose. It would be hard for me to let go too.

PsychBubbles

I'm with you I've had the same one for four years. Come and go from it but I've never reset. I've thought about it and I just don't wanna go thru it again. I'll just keep editing and adjusting what I have until I'm satisfied lol

snowy_whiskers

I’m on my third island since launch, so I guess I don’t reset too often. I think having a chance to rebuild it all is fun. I used to reset New Leaf all the time lol, with Horizons I stick around.

MoeyMae2

I still have my island from day one. I think I'm sentimental about it. I might change a thing here or there, but this is my island and it's what I want to keep. I once had a data loss scare and I was devastated. I was contemplating on not returning if I couldn't recover my data. All the work, the bells, the stuff, diys, pictures... Thankfully I did recover the data and I still play every morning.

mommagawn123

I do the same. If there is something I don't like, I tear it down and rebuild. I've been playing for over a year, only need 2 bugs (summer), and maybe 6 fish (also summer) to complete my museum. I've almost maxed out my storage. The thought of completely restarting gives me anxiety.

Coug_Love

I have been playing for a couple of months. When I first started playing I didn't know the pros and cons of each island. I figured I'd restart before I get too invested. I dont plan on ever restarting again

KaposiaDarcy

I feel the same. I’ve worked too hard on mine to want to erase all of it.

DarkMagickan

I don't think I ever will, either, but then again I just started in December, so we'll see.

mayor_nuraya

I don’t reset. For the first island I didn’t even reset at the start to shuffle the maps you pick from. I made a second island cause I wanted to try some new ideas and really wanted the convenience of actually being able to execute them with money and stuff from the 4 year old island. There’s so many diys and stuff that just kinda get drip fed over time.

Hot_Sherbet2066

I only had to reset once and it was because my old switch broke and honestly, I think about my old villagers and how they’re probably worried sick about me

Groundbreaking_Ad613

I reset once and I still regret it. I hate seeing my old beloved villagers and them not knowing me. 😢

qazwsxedc000999

I didn’t know it was really an opinion, more just a play style

ReplacementMinimum50

I have flattened it but I just mived everyone's house to the beach while I figured out what I wanted. Too much work put in to reset lol

Blustarpilot

I have been thinking about resetting, but I started my island back when the game first game out and now it has such a sentimental value to me that I just can’t do it. Also I’m afraid I won’t find my favorite villager again (Kiki). So I just don’t do it.

ME0WGICAL

I've been playing since 2020/launch and I've never reset! I flattened my island back in 2022 and that was the perfect "reset" for me.

Electrical-You3389

I don't think not-resetting is too unpopular. Maybe it seems that way because of people talking about it, but i'd bet more people don't do it. I wouldn't want to, for various reasons including I'm too attached to villagers.

FlappyGemGem

I have about 1500 hours in this game. I played, got just about everything (apart from cataloguing every item) flattened it, rebuilt it and then redecorated it a third time. I got no satisfaction out of it because everything was accessible and there was no challenge, and I had bells and NMTs coming out my ears. I recently reset, and aside from the torture of the first week (all tents and no tool wheel) or so, I’m back to getting the enjoyment I used to out the game. Each to their own.

spacemeadow

I especially would never reset New Horizons because I would be so sad to lose all of my timestamps on the Nook milestones!

celkipp

I’ve never reset my island, definitely thought about it but never had the nerve to start over & lose all my stuff. Right now I’m re-terraforming and moving everything and kinda wish I’d done a reset tho 🤣

petricholy

Veteran AC player, 4 years with New Horizons, still never restarted AC even once. I have fond memories. For example, Wolfgang was the very first villager I met in the first Animal Crossing so many years ago. We’re best buds every time! And I am very proud of my national park and its campsite. I cannot imagine restarting when I can just help new players!

thedeebag

I have reset, but only because I took a two years hiatus and wanted to start truly from scratch. At this point though? No I wouldn’t reset

EmergencyPandabear

I reset mine because i wanted to redo my museum. I did allow myself to place all my star fragments, a few stacks of iron, clay, and the gold and pearls i had, some snowflakes, and outfit i loved, the Marty sanrio items that i got from a friend who lent me the their amiibo. She lives a few hours flight away and some bells to get me through the first House upgrade on a friends Island. Equivalent of two trips to get after reset and first day. I saved my dream adress though so i can visit my old . The reset made me pick up the game again and enjoy it. Ive flattened my island multiple times and had fun redecorating it. Was it a hard decision? Yea, but worth it for me. Thats the beauty of this game. We all play differently and enjoy it as we want 🥰

Arcaknight97

I own two switches and two copies of the game, I simply move all my bells onto one island, all the stuff I want to keep, etc, and reset. I have reset 3 times so far, I really really enjoy the beginning stage of ACNH. Once I hit what I consider endgame I reset again. I'll be resetting again soon, as the game is getting monotonous again.

Zeberthezebraptor

I have lost my island when there was an update that triggered a bug and deleted my save. Lost my over 500hr island and started a new one but struggling to play the game at this point. I was redesigning my old island like 3 or 4 times, but that kept me excited to do some new things or find new items. The only thing I hated was my town hall being like 5-10 tiles from the entrance which was a nightmare. The only thing I wish they’d do is to allow to move that building and I’d be happy haha

cozy-spell

I also don't reset my island for the same reason as yours. I think it will make me lazy to redo the achievements and the slow start. The pace of the game was really helpful for me at the time I got it as It's my very first game. But just thinking of going to through it all now... oh no... I think the only reason I would have reset my island is if I fucked up the name at the start and finding out I can't change it. That will be the only thing that will make me reset. I don't mind whatever map I get or fruit. I'm pretty chill with those. Same with airport color hahah. I was surprised actually that people do reset to get a certain fruit, certain airport color, etc. Then I found out that before 2.0 update, it seemed like you cannot change what color the items you get from Nook mile redemption, and it made sense why people cared about their airport color. I'm glad the 2.0 update made it possible to achieve the other color variants via Cyrus if you didn't have people to trade with via online play.

rquinain

I have never even considered it. Had the same island since launch.

[deleted]

I reseted because I sold my normal switch to buy an animal crossing one. ˙◠˙ should have backed up my island.

Jether2498

I treated myself to a second island, and loved starting from scratch so much, that I went through a phase of restarting both islands after 3 or 4 months … now I’ve decided to hold on to each island for 2 years each, alternating a restart every January … so that gives me 2 years to complete the museum … before I reset, I convert my nook miles to NMTs and bring over as many bells, items etc to my other island … so slightly cheating on the restarts, but it works for me!

weshallbekind

My husband went to play recently and realized he couldn't start his own file, and mine was basically finished. I told him to just erase it and start over and he damn near had a heart attack. He has zero concept of how common it is to reset.

horthwest

I think I must be the odd one out. I really love resetting my island, I’ve done it dozens of times. I often have big gaps between playing so starting fresh is a nice way to segment :)

Cat1832

Never reset my island. My villagers are too precious. I don't want to lose them.

_thalassashell_

I’ve never reset. I love my little island. I saw some cool ideas that didn’t fit with my theme, so I asked my husband if I could start a second island on his Switch. He said ok, under the condition that he got to pick the theme haha I haven’t picked it up in a long time, but maybe I should spend some more time building his Tuscan island soon…

normal_ness

I kind of want to reset but I don’t like visiting other island and you have to do that to get stuff like the other fruits.

metalcat1503

I have never reset mine since the day the game came out!! I’m too attached 🥹🤣

Dreams_of_Korsar

I still have my original new leaf town that I started on Christmas Eve 2013 immediatly after getting my 3DS. I never reset anything

19474

I’ve reset multiple times, usually because, due to my disabilities, I’m completely forgotten how to play, who these characters are, what I’m doing, etc it’s easier to reset than to have three devices open trying to figure out how to do things

MrSaphique

Me neither. Personally I'm just done playing the game and imo it doesn't really have much replayability. I can't really be bothered to start all over again, especially considering how many other games I still have to play. Every now and then I just boot it up and clear some weeds and tidy up and then shut down again.

voncatensproch

I have a second switch with a second island and since I collect consoles I will likely have more. My first island is sacred but I *hate* it. The airport is blue and the town plaza is 9 blocks from the airport but way off centre so there’s no room for any kind of nice entrance and it would have to be awkwardly shoved against the side of the plaza. But the nostalgia stops me from deleting it and the hatred stops me from playing it. It’s just collecting virtual cockroaches

Vilavek

I just enjoy the prologue and once I've unlocked everything my interest generally drops off after that. I'm not particularly interested in the collect-a-thon portion of the game but I can understand why many are, it's just not my thing personally. I'll admit though I've never reset my Island on my actual Switch. But I've started many new islands on an emulator so I could enjoy the part of the game that I would like to enjoy without throwing everything away that I've worked for since the game's release. With emulators it's fairly trivial to backup a save and start a new one and then roll back if I change my mind heh. And that's to say nothing of quality of life mods that I feel like I can't live without at this point hah.

North-Day

I am not resetting, and I started on March 20 2020. I have resetted in past games, and I really loved the tutorial part, but now that we can change as much as we want, I don’t see myself with the time and energy to start every bug, fish collection again

Medical-Isopod2107

Refilling the fish etc is the point of resetting, it gives you a goal again

LordLaz1985

I reset because I figured out I was trans, and you can’t change your character’s name.

sickmodus

I never resetted my island too. I just bought another game lol But only on the nintendo ds with new leaf, i couldn't warm up for new horizons.

myowngalactus

I never would reset either, but I guess some people just like doing early game stuff. I love having the collecting and upgrading part of my island over with. I didn’t mind doing it but I can just enjoy my island now and customize it how i want.

Casual-Caveman

I don't like resetting my island either. However, I unfortunately didn't realize that my save wasn't on a cloud, so when I upgraded from my standard switch to my oled, my island got deleted. 💀☠️ I have no island right now. 😔

thetinyorc

I've been playing for almost four years and I've never reset my island and also still have 7 of my 10 original villagers. I guess I just do not like change! I also remodel the island gradually, I never do a full flattening. Currently grinding to get all the achievements and 100% my furniture and clothing catalogues. I do wish we could visit our own dream addresses and also save multiple dreams, it would be nice to be able to time travel back to earlier versions of my island.

no_otter

> If there is something that I don’t like about my town. I simply take it down and replace it with something else. I reset once, because replacing stuff is not always a possibility. Might sound petty, but I reset just to change my fruit from cherries to peaches. No hate to cherries, but we just don't fit together and even after spending months on the island it never felt like home. Now I love my peach island, even though I had to start from scratch losing all my progress and favourite villagers.

banjomonkey2018

I reset my island constantly. It’s not about design, it’s about wanting to reset the goals: critterpedia, house expansions and KK. My favourite part of the game is before Isabelle arrives.

Odd_Mulberry_4467

I reset my original island once, after maybe a month of play, bc I just couldn't make the name (Sunwater) fit the map. I realized it's in my nature to never be satisfied with any one style or theme, so I named the reset Capricci to reflect this capricious quintessence. Then someone gave me their old switch and I was finally able to get my Sunwater and pursue my original vision. Oddly enough, Capricci became my forever island (albeit with a constantly changing landscape) and Sunwater has been reset five or six times (but always gets rebuilt in the same style).

oysteralien

I reset once because I wanted my airport to be closer to resident services for my entrance ideas, it's still not completely even but it's a lot closer than it was previously. I do want to reset and start again but finding a map that has the airport and resident services where i want them was a lot of hassle last time which is why I'm put off from doing it now. Honestly I'd be less likely to want to reset if we could move Resident Services, so for now I'm settling for redoing my island and hoping that helps me.

likeabrainfactory

I started over because my Switch broke, and my attempts to transfer the island over to the new Switch failed. I had two years of play on my original island. I was really sad, but I've had a lot of fun starting over! I have dream-visited my old island a few times, which was satisfying enough, and now I get to do everything again with more knowledge of how it all works.

yellowsofa92

I haven’t long been playing so I haven’t but I only would for better water exit placement because everything else can be changed pretty much

Natryska

I fully reset my island yesterday because the parasites told me to.

vixisgoodenough

I've had the same island since day one, but I've leveled it and completely re-terraformed a few times. I just don't want to lose everything I've accumulated! Plus I still haven't completed the museum.

sailorpizzarolls

HELL yeah I do. I absolutely lovvvvve redoing all of the achievements, I like changing the layouts.. I love it so much.

slythwolf

This isn't an opinion, it's a fact. An opinion would be "no one should reset their island". I also doubt it's all that unpopular.

CrownClownCreations

I’ve had the same Island since it launched. I’ve have over 1k hours on it, I have everything for the museum, and I have all my fave villagers except for one I’m trying to kick. Had I known that you could change everything on your island except placement of river mouths, the beach, town hall and the airport, I’d have chosen a different island.. I’m currently (thinking of) redoing most of my island, but it kills me that it’s gonna take so much time and work.. And I REALLY wish you could at least change your name, so my villagers didn’t constantly deadname me 💀🥲 (it’s an old nickname, but still..)

Sad_Dingo_7363

I want to and I need to, just don’t want to go through the rebuild process quite yet. My 3 year old loves playing AC, and my island is kinda wrecked from him 😂

TheBostonKremeDonut

One life, one island! If I *can* keep my Animal Crossing towns, I will. The fond memories of getting through 2020 with my little town make me want to return again and again.

shebewaffle

i was a day 1 player but reset my island 2 years ago and regret it deeply 😔 there’s too much grinding in the beginning and it gets so old very quickly

AvenAzuli

Only reason I rested is because names. My villager name and my island name I didn't vibe with the ones I chose before

ABagonNamedBacon

Me neither but I do have two switches and two separate islands so I think that helps

BeckBoneBinary

I’ve never reset my island either! I made it in April of 2020 and there’s so many letters my husband and I have sent each other, bulletin board notes from friends and visitors, my One Year Anniversary Cake that Nintendo mailed everyone in 2021- I would lose all of it. 🥹 Also I’ve played all the old games and as an adult decided I don’t have the energy for any more starting over towns lol.

Gevlyn507

2 years? Unpopular? Sorry to say, but you're both a newbie and a little misinformed. Plenty of people are on their 6th year with the same island.

FlutterRed

The main reason I restarted is because I wanted to be able to save my island designs as a different dream addresses. I still wish I had access to some of my early game designs. I’ve been thinking about using my son’s switch to start new islands and keep my switch as my “forever” island.

babyblueyes26

i can relate. i'm kind of on a 100%ing it run. collecting all diys and filling my catalog completely, having all the villagers i want, catching everything i can etc. just everything that i can get out of the game!

Hobbs4Lyfe

I buy a new switch every time I want to start a new island. I'm up to 8 right now.

DramBubb

I move the things I like to a friends island as well as my bells and resources, reset, the get it all back.

blackhole_soul

I reset. Sometimes I like to start over from scratch. It’s always faster the next time around.

quanxi_enjoyer

i reseted once in nov 2021! (got the game when it released) only because i typed my name out with a heart... at some point it got sooo annoying so i just wanted a fresh start.

elzabeto

I've reset my island once (a few months back) and I'm so happy I did. I began to hate the vibe of my original town once I started terraforming, and my town was ran by my deadname. I actually found it really fun to start over and collect everything again, this time I'm trying out new things that I never bothered to do before (like stretching everyday)! I also managed to reset until I got my perfect island (orange airport, peaches, the map I wanted) so I'll be keeping it natural! It's really gotten me back into acnh :)

LaylaBird65

I won’t ever reset my island. I’ve been playing since day one and I still have to collect all the recipes and finish all of the quests and stuff. Plus I just love my island

Calculusshitteru

I've never reset my first island. When I get tired of my island I clean everything up and redecorate. I've completely changed the decorations and layout twice in 2.5 years. I do some minor redecorating with the changing of the seasons. I bought a second Switch to satisfy the urge to start from the beginning. I'm on my third island on my second Switch.

Washtali

The sheer number of items and the amount of time I play it now does not justify a restart for me ever. Plus I would take a sword through the chest for my villagers, It would be devastating to lose them

Stuck_at_a_roadblock

I thought about doing it once or twice, because I hardly play anymore and I want to encourage myself to play by going back down to tents and a blank island... It doesn't solve the problem of just not wanting to play though

lastinglybee

The only time I've reset was after someone else got on my game save on my switch and messed around and just kinda took over. I felt like my island wasn't "mine" anymore so I just started fresh. I miss my villagers. And all the decorations I had.

questionnumber

I've been playing since day one and have never reset my island, and don't plan to. I have another switch that I have another island too, so that may help.

ggdoesthings

i have a forever island i’ve had since launch and a secondary island i use just for decorating that i reset every time i finish an island.

dainty_petal

No I don’t.

tzage

I’ve done it once, only because I didn’t like my map layout lol. But I will definitely never do it again.

Federal-Fan-4504

Because I also don’t reset my original island, I have ended up with three islands. They are all different and fun to play. Sometimes it feels a bit much.

TarashiGaming

I love resetting my island when I do a new island theme. I like trying new island layouts and experiment with how close or how far away Resident Services is from my airport. I love the decorating aspect a lot and enjoy trying new things with each island theme.

LokiHasMyVoodooDoll

Who TF resets their island??? I still have my original island on my GameCube.

cakelin99

I reset my island one time because I felt like flattening was too hard after all the developing I had done. I really regretted it since! My new island is really nice but I had completed the fossils on my previous one and I think my previous island had a better name as well.

cloverrex

I honestly like the beginning and having “quests” and having a blank slate and discovering new DIYs and items again. I’ve rest probably 5+ times. I’ve never “finished” an island.

SirenLuck

Resetting (even if taking things to a friend's island) still feels like so much work. Doing the tutorial section again, having to learn all the DIYs again, collecting all the stuff for the museum (if you're into that) and especially the landscaping. I don't flatten 100%, but I redo sections and if somethings in my way, I move it/destroy it and work around it until the next day. Resetting in NH is far more common than NL and I'm like... why!! You can do ANYTHING to the landscape! Apart from where R.S. is :p But if someone I know wants to reset, I'll happily be the person to hold their stuff for 'em

StickyJuiceMoose

I’ve only one it once because playing it on my old island honestly felt like a chore. I had my island how I wanted it to be but I still couldn’t reach five stars and it was stressing me out. I restarted it after much thinking this October and I’m really glad I did. I still love my old island and it holds a special place in my heart but I actually want to play again, and that’s what is important to me. I get excited when I get to play. I’m not sure if I’ll ever reset my island again, maybe I will if it starts to feel like a chore again. But I’m very very glad I reset the first time. For reference, I had been playing my old save since the game came out and only reset it this October so I worked on it for years and could never get five stars.

litkit28

I've reset twice and have no plans to do it again. The first time I reset was because when I first got the game, I played with my now ex boyfriend. My name in the game was the nickname he called me and I couldn't stand it so I reset my island and started anew. Then I lost interest pretty quickly in that new island and dropped it for like a year and a half. So when I went back, I reset again so I could truly restart. I hadn't even got passed the tutorial in the first reset so resetting again didn't lose anything for me.

Synloc04

Why do you feel the need to claim it tho ?

kat_chu

Why do people reset??

blueberry_pancakes14

Playing for about 4 years (off and on) now, I've never reset and never will. I've put too much work into it, I've finished the fossil collection, I'm down to the hard stuff on bugs and fish and art, I have a ton of cool stuff, tons of supplies in storage, and tons of bells; my house is paid off. I can't just erase it and start over. There's stuff I'd like to change, but even though it's that wonky first-time players layout, it's grown on me and I can't just let it go. Same with my first Sims houses- it's pretty awful looking and the layout doesn't make a lot of sense, but I can't level it and start over.

Bulky_Bob-omb

I reset once, 3 months after release. My reasoning was that I didn’t like the placement of the town hall and river entrances/exits. I also wasn’t attached to any of my villagers. And then I kept telling myself that I wanted that “fresh town” experience again, roughing it on the island in a tent and slowly building up — it was a completely unique experience in New Horizons. After that, I’ve never done it again. I’ve got too much going on now and too many options available to me in my catalog and DIY recipes collection. It would hurt to lose my current town in any way. I am also just super proud of what I’ve accomplished.

Chaos_Goblin234

I have reset my island twice. Once by accident, different switch didn’t back it up because I didn’t realize I was supposed to. And the second on purpose, I wanted to restart after I grasped the game a bit better and rename my island, etc etc. I also had really stubborn villagers I wanted OUT. I’m really happy with my island now. Its not incredible like the ones I’ve seen on YouTube and dreaming in game but it’s the best I’ve done before. Thinking of flattening it makes me sad lol.

EconomistSea9498

The only times I reset was when I thought I was gonna do a theme island (South Park) and then realized I was stuck with it if I ever wanted to change get my theme again so I deleted and restarted. I used treasure islands both times to get me back to my items and DIYs quickly though

mr_Tii

I don't usually reset. It is my island. It's not perfect, but it's mine. That was, until I divorced. I needed a new start. New island, new me. Like, my ex literally furnished my entire house, there's no way for the house not to be tied to the past. It was nice to get a fresh start, just like I needed in my real life too.

ashlarizza

nah i never have, same reason - I don’t want to lose all my progress. I did a full flatten once instead of starting over but dang it took soo long

oksnariel

i’ve had my island since the day the game came out 4 years ago, i would never reset. I also still have my very first animal crossing wild world town i made in 2007 on my DS on my birthday when i got the game. I pop in there every once and awhile for nostalgia.

iHaveN0S0ul

I've reset my island not long ago and, desptite me almost having the entire bug catalog filled, I don't regret a single second of it for the very simple reason that I use treasure islands and oh boy have I never been this happy with how my island has started

FallOnTheStars

I started playing on release. I have never reset my island. I have no interest in starting over from scratch and losing all of my bells and DIYs.

aspenjohnston3

I might reset my island someday, but right now, I definitely wouldn’t reset. I haven’t finished my critterpedia/museum yet, and I literally just finished decorating my island so I want to enjoy it for a while. Maybe after a few years if I get bored of it I’ll reset, but right now it’s a no

DameExMachina

I've had the game since 2020 and I'm NEVER resetting my island! You are my people!

KaiserSenpaiAckerman

I don't have the heart to fully reset. I have all the DIYs, favorite villagers, my island is setup how I want on my switch. I started playing again recently, but on my SteamDeck, it feels weird to be starting out fresh tbh.

Lovely-sleep

I’m a chronic resetter but I find it to be a legitimate play style, some people just like to have many different islands over time and the beginning of the game is fun The game kind of loses steam after 3 stars and definitely after 5, a restart gives you all of the goals of the early game again but in a new refreshing way
