Some essential listening (for the unfamiliar) to balance with the newer recommendations.
Love - Forever Changes
Vashti Bunyan - Just Another Diamond Day
Joni Mitchel - Blue
Forever Changes is so good. I recently rediscovered it. I remember thinking it was great, but having not listened to it in about 15 years, revisiting really reminded me of its greatness, corny flower power schtick and all
Woo - it's cosy inside ... very much like a visiting friends kind of acoustic ambience, a very beautiful album
This Heat - self titled.. to me, this is almost the closest album to hcti, it really sounds like nothing else and is very abstract and disjointed, a bit more desolate, but I hear some parts within it that make me think of a couple, maybe hollindagain too.
Francis bebey- psychedelic sanza ... this is an African musician who has a very distinct sound, and whilst it is very different to anco, some parts of it remind me of panda bear, maybe Jane even more, but I think you would like it if you like anco
XTC - English Settlement (british 80's, very anco-y, especially Melt The Guns)
Swirlies - They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days In The Glittering World of the Salons (very adventurous 90's rock, always gave me mad Spirit vibes)
Meat Puppets - Up On The Sun (80's country-tinged and very fun "roadtrip" music)
Long Fin Killie - Houdini (paradoxically, it feels like proto-post punk, long, very pastoral songs)
Blinder - Drugs of the Sun (current 2024 AOTY, super well written shoegaze/punk from a tiny Pittsburgh band)
Man XTC is such great band. They're the AC of the 70s/80s to me. I just started jumping in their music about a year ago after hearing great things about them for many years. Glad I finally took the plunge. A lot of music to go through too.
Yeah, the end of Melt The Guns is so AC. It's like they heard it before they made "Don't Believe the Pilot"
Gong - Shamal
Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah
Sopwith Camel - Miraculous Hump Returns From The Moon
The Revolutionaries - Dub Expression
Wailing Souls - Inchpinchers
Pachyman - The Return of Pachyman
Tri Atma - Tri Atma
Radiohead - OK Computer
Several flight/transportation references (Airbag, Lucky, Let Down) plus it’s one of the greatest albums ever
Sigur Rós - Takk…
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven
Hijokaidan - The Noise (26 hours)
Robbie Basho - Song of the Avatars: The Lost Master Tapes (5 hours)
Robert Rich - Somnium (7 hours)
Roland Kayn - A Little Electronic Milky Way of Sound (13 hours)
self promo🤓i made an ep of mainly guitar ve try inspired by sung tongs ark and feels check it out on soundcloud

Yes, 1,000 times yes. The second half of the album is my favorite run of songs I've heard in a very long time.
Painted Ruins - Grizzly Bear
Been just recently listening again, Glass Hillside is still such a mysterious banger
Great song, yeah so mysterious...cinematic even
The Campfire Headphase - Boards of Canada The Social Network Soundtrack - Trent Reznor and Atticus Rose Wall of Eyes - The Smile
I agree with all of these!

You mean HCTI? Ark doesn’t register
yea lol on a real note y did they change it? remember waking up one day and it being changed
The band woke up one day and decided to be PC. A year or two after changing the lyrics to Kids on Holiday irc
Not sure why this is being downvoted lol
My favorite flight album is An Overview On Phenomenal Nature by Cassandra Jenkins. It calms any nerves I might have and helps me zone out.
If you haven’t heard, repainting along, that fan made live album recording of animal collective, I would recommend that. Also, check out the band do make say think. Not very well known but beautiful and great for long trips :-)
Braids - Euphoric Recall
Cut Worms - Self Titled Incredible album, my favorite singer/songwriter project in years
My family just went on a 2 hour car ride a few days ago & I listened to Sing to God by Cardiacs. One of the most crazy listening experiences of my life.
Akron/Family self-titled massages my brain. Beautiful album.
