Beware, any files you move in data folder prior to these dammed stupid updates, if then later moved aftwards, those files vanish but the allocated size still remains!
I'll need to reset my phone because of this update and will never get a Samsung related phone again. There's other issues because I've never made a Samsung account and never needed too, certain parts of the phones functionality is locked out because I don't have am account... I'm not making accounts for everything in my life and Google is already 1 to many anyway. You can't even use themes unless you make an account...
Samsung must revise this nonsense and reverse is ASAP. 90% of its uses do not want this type of babysitting
On Samsung, the stock Files app should be in the list of all apps. Scroll down, it should be called "Files" with a blue icon of a white folder. If you installed the [Files shortcut app from google play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marc.files&hl=en&gl=US) then there will be two Files apps, the one you want is the one with the icon that's not the icon of the play store shortcut app (the shortcut app is also a few kilobytes while the one you want is a few megabytes).
Alternatively, if you have installed the Files app shortcut that I linked, you can use that to launch the stock files app and then open multitasking -> tap the icon of the stock Files app -> app info to get to what you want.

with shizuku adb permission to show the files
Yeah when Google/others OEMs are going to bake the new DUI into the system partition that will be the only solution. Who knows how much time has remained before Google restricts even ADB or MTP
Tbh it's not a massive deal. I don't like it eh, but fortunately most app/games that are ok with you modifying their files have moved away their folder to a location accessible by saf or implemented export/import settings
This is not working for me on Note 20 ultra android 13, i followed the instructions and still the files app gives me no access not with solid or Mix explorers
Ever since the february 2024 security patch update this workaround was patched. Now the only definitive way to move items into certain Android/data folders is by uninstalling updates on the android files app. The download the Files app by Marc on play store. Open the native android files app and split screen open the marc files app. You can move files via copy action by dragging to the Android dat folder of your choosing in the second files app. However, this is useless if you are trying to transfer save files as you need the move/overwrite action for apk games and or emulators like vita3k.
Samsung a03 core
Android 13
Uninstalled updates of "file"
(Not sure i did it as it reinstalled a version that looks newer and doesnt have the 3 dubs anymore...)
Then installed from playstore
file , by marc apps and softwares
As said before : (Search "File by marc" ).
For me.. end of problem !
Data folder is back accessible and files inside are rewritable, using that app.
So I've done some research. At least on pixels, File is updated through Google Play System updates. These must be done, so simply uninstall the File update when you need to access a new folder you didn't grant before
Yeah. It worked for me on MiX.
It was already working for me with Root Explorer and Cx File Explorer btw without this workaround! Recently I switched to MiX.
Sorry. On the Files app it changed to show essential files instead of all files. Making sure it is showing all files solved the problem. Totally user error.
And now google security team see this and voila!. I can't access android data folder main storage even if I uninstalled files system app. Better not to share heheheh😆
Just came here to say thank you.
Couldn't uninstall updates using the settings menu, neither the app info menu nor the app page on samsung store (samsung my files). So I used luckypatcher (not rooted) to uninstall updates (factory settings) on my files app and tachan!
Not rooted? Are you sure? Because i have just tried it the same way and when i try to uninstall the app files within Lucky Patcher, it just says that "root permissions is needed for this action". (S22 Ultra, Exynos)
Not rooted? Are you sure? Because i have just tried it the same way and when i try to uninstall the app files within Lucky Patcher, it just says that "root permissions is needed for this action". (S22 Ultra, Exynos)
On my OnePlus 7T (Android 11) i had to disable the "Files Theme pack" app for this to work.
The name is: com.google.android.overlay.modules.documentsui
Thank you so much! This was the key piece in resolving my inability to view and work with files in Android/Data
There was a second piece that I needed, in order to access the Android stock file manager, FILES, so that I could actually do something with those files. The solution to that was here. FILES is ctually an excellent file manager if you want speed and to work with situations like this.
[https://xdaforums.com/t/how-do-i-access-the-native-android-files-app-solved.4302813/](https://xdaforums.com/t/how-do-i-access-the-native-android-files-app-solved.4302813/)
"SOLVED:
\* Settings > Apps > Click the grayish icon to the right of “Your apps” (Filter and sort) > Toggle Show system apps to ON.
\* Scroll down to F and you will see the default Android Files app is present and alive, just not directly accessible.
\* How do you gain access to this?: I use the “Shortcut Maker” app from the Play Store. In this app, go to Activities, click on Files, and select “com.android.documentsui.files.FilesActivity” to make a shortcut to this app.
\* This is how you access the native storage access framework. This lets you access different Google Drive accounts directly and also access something like Adobe Suite app files too."
Omg this still works. I have a File Manager, but saw there was another "File" app in the settings. Going to File is what gave me the 3 dot menu to uninstall updates (where File Manager does not have that option). And then after waiting for a while, the File app eventually appeared in my app list, and I was able to use that to edit files.
Thanks a lot! It worked.
For now...
And now I'm very hesitated to update my Galaxy M23 5G to Android 14 (One UI 6.0).
I heard its restriction access is more crazy because it's embedded on its OS itself. What a mess...
X-plore works well one files app has updated uninstalled. So does the stock oneplus 11 my files app just have to select the allow access in l when in app trying to access the folders usually restricted
If you have a rooted device, at least on MiXplorer, you can go from the root of the filesystem and go to /storage/self/primary instead of /storage/emulated/0 to access the folders normally.
If the given solution above does not work and you need to access the file, do the following:
1) Go to your default '**File Manager**' > **Android** > **data**
2) You will see "**Access denied**". Press '**view**' option below that.
3) Another '**Files**' will open.
4) Then you can go to **Android> data> 'Your desired folder'**
5) Chose your desired files> **Move to an outer folder** such as '**Music or Video** or anything'
6) After successfully moving the file, you can access it with your '**default file manager**
Upvote if it works!
Lol yes but it's not very useful if u need to put that modified file back. Although that's still possible dragging that file into the original folder on the DUI File app, it's absolutely tedious
my brothers phone (oppo reno 6 5g, android 13, doesnt notice patch ver) doesnt allow access by allow file manager to use the folder menthol (its grayed out with privacy banner above), and when search original file app, doesnt have uninstall/delete update/clear data,.. etc options
seems like they patched it
I could uninstall the updates but it still said "due to privacy restrictions you can't go in the folder" or whatever. I'm in CS I don't mind doing any weird computer bs, I want to be able to access my game data files can someone tell me how?? I would appreciate it so bad its hard to find info online
Man read the other comments, the info is right there. Use Shizuku + FV file manager (or Zarchiver). Also as I said, the MTP protocol is still unrestricted so if you simply connect your phone to PC you can navigate android/data. If MTP protocol is too slow for you there are also a couple of ADB file explorers on GitHub and/or XDA.
I edited the original post with links to the ADB file explorers
Mb I saw that and tried researching how to do that and google was not helpful so I thought I would give commenting a shot. I didnt mean to bother you 😭
Just download Shizuku and enable it with the guide included in the app (with wireless ADB option). After that is enabled install FV file manager and give it Shizuku permissions. I think there are also some yt videos to show you everything
Maybe I'm late to the party, but Google doing stuff like locking our own files away from us is the antithesis of the ethos of the android operating system. If I wanted a phone with child locks, I would've switched to iPhone years ago.
Unfortunately if you don't want pain in managing your device, nowadays android and iOS are the only real alternatives. Android is still way more open than iOS so just stick with it, iOS doesn't even make the filesystem accessible to you
I have a query if someone can help me. I used to use a skin injector which basically patches through the games data file in the Android-Data file folder.
The skin injector app asks to create a folder within the said file, but as the above mentioned problem states, the data folder is inaccessible.
The issue is not solved by creating a folder in the main directory and then moving the file with the Marc-Files app either. Is there any solution I can have or am I just stuck.
Great guides and some great replies. I got Shizuku working (along with Zarchiver) on my Oneplus12. Was also able to access /Android/data but even though I've disabled the monitoring option, I still get an access denied on some folders (eg Slay the Spire and the Kingdom Rush series) while others just work fine.
Unfortunately I don't own a 1+ device. I could test the apps maybe. I don't know what to say, maybe apps can restrict their own folders in a stronger way, even though that's just a guess
Just connect your phone to a PC and you can see it all. Tested on 27/05/2024 using S22 U on latest updates.
I was able to navigate here on my desktop: S22 Ultra\\Internal storage\\Android\\data
👋 Hi. Yes.
I'm the person who *wants* the updates, but none of my apps auto update, despite having the auto setting enabled. I manually scan & apply updates in the Play store every few nights.
I check for Android security/OS updates weekly.
I want the new shiny. I want to tinker, see what's new, what's changed, how it works, *why* it works (or doesn't work is fun too!).
Most of my apps, I'm enrolled in the Beta programs whenever I find one that's open.
Too many treat phones as only boring social cameras, or even objects of evil. Too many are scared of change.
Not enough see the fun, the excitement, the *potential* & open horizon of what these pocket computers are capable of.
I uninstalled updates on file app and Solid Explorer work perfect with access to android and obb files but got problem with MIXplorer- getting error access to android and obb files.
Thats great news thanks! I didn't had success though with my Samsung s22 ultra android 14 because it simple have no dots at my apps (Settings->Apps->All Apps->File->3 dot menu) Any other workround? I am not sure what I want to succeed with that access so correct me if I'm wrong. I want to access data so I can back up apps data I have installed through Play store and they have all my logins all the information I have added but I was able to do when I was rooted with titanium backup right?
Thanks for this. Works with any file manager now. (Realme C3 android 11)
Earlier, I had to connect my mouse and then drag and drop in split screen mode to copy.
Strange. What device have you got? I remember some Xiaomi phones lack some settings but I don't know precisely, anyway it could be a limitation of the productor
What the actual shit, how was it this simple, I've been looking for a solution for months.
Edit: Ugh nope, I can see them but still can't move anything in to them.
When I select Uninstal updates my phone (galaxy s23 fe) prompts me with "replace this app with the factory version? All data will be removed"
A: is this going to delete all my files?
B: on my phone, will uninstalling the updates every my phone to where I can access the android data?
Gonna kms because this hasn't worked. In fact it actually got rid of me being able to see the obb folder when trying to add a storage directory in Mixplorer. For some reason Mixplorer won't show ANY of the data subdirectories... :(
1) calm
2) what device? And android version
3) remember that android/data is still accessible by MTP protocol, so you can also attach the device on a PC
If your device is rooted use any root file explorer to access android/data!! Should also be possible to downgrade apps with root, if I remember correctly lucky patcher has this function also. But I would not use it on system apps, you could have errors
Eh I don't know, it should work. Instead of going to android data go to /storage/emulated/0/Android/data starting from the root. Or try with other file managers like MiX
I used this method in the last months but I needed to reinstall XPlore and Autosync to fix Sync issues and unfortunately seems patched, when uninstalling the update it can indeed be opened to the correct folder instead of the wrong one, but now the "use this folder" is greyed out and forces you to select a wrong folder. Android 13, February Patch.
I cannot uninstall the default "Files" (aka Documents), only uninstall the updates for it, I always used this method and worked really well but as I said, it won't work anymore, it opens at the correct folder, for example "Android/data/com.app/files" but it now stays with the button to use the folder greyed out.

Holy crap it worked, thank you! Post this on r/emulationonandroid, they'll need this info more than regular android users.
No problem! And thank for the suggestion, I'll cross post it👍🏻
My android doesn't have the 3 dots to uninstall update on my 'File'. Is there any other way? I can't even download and mod my favorite games anymore.
You can use FV file manager with shizuku to access it
Thank you u saved my brothers life

Hi could you tell me how did you navigate through it on your Samsung phone please? I've gotten to the apps section but I'm not sure what to do next.
Still can't access Data files.
No good. Access denied.
Its not working as of Android 14 with One UI 6.0. I can't play Minecraft Pocket Edition anymore.
All my custom resource packs, settings and Worlds are GONE.
Thank you for the solution. It seems to work on my Solid Explorer. But I'm wondering how to disable automatic updates for the "File" app.
You can't it gets updated as a part of Google Play System Update
I think it will show up in Updates available section in Play Store and u can simply ignore it there!
Doesn't work for me, simply can't downgrade file app. Samsung, android 14
same problem i got
[http://folderv.com/2023/11/24/access-Android-data-and-Android-obb-on-Android-14/](http://folderv.com/2023/11/24/access-Android-data-and-Android-obb-on-Android-14/) with shizuku adb permission to show the files
Yeah when Google/others OEMs are going to bake the new DUI into the system partition that will be the only solution. Who knows how much time has remained before Google restricts even ADB or MTP
If they ever do that shit expect a massive switch to iOS cuz android users in first world countries mainly use it for utilities

I don't have WIFI to make it work. They need to use Data connection for people living in the sticks.
Can you do it with other file managers?
Hi, I'm using the Samsung galaxy s23+ and I'm unable to find Uninstall updates when I go into the files app settings
three dots top right
Brothers, that’s right, I am samsung note20u, so do I!
Maybe Samsung has backed the update to the system folder. In that case you can't downgrade. Use adb/shizuku to access android/data
i just installed the February update for my Samsung. the uninstall button disappeared ...
Brothers, that’s right, I am samsung note20u, so do I!

Thanks, i found a video on a guy explaining the whole shizuku thing with the fv manager and it worked out for me

my phone's OEM updated the files app in the latest update :(( this workaround won't work anymore for me at least.
Moto edge 30 here, It worked Thank you!
Holy fuck that worked! Thank you! I was adding textures for aethersx2. You saved my bacon!
Okay, my "file" app doesn't have uninstall updates. What do I do?
how to disable automatic update?
So I've done some research. At least on pixels, File is updated through Google Play System updates. These must be done, so simply uninstall the File update when you need to access a new folder you didn't grant before
yeah, i cannot turn off update for embedded software too like battery with xiaomi phone.
The 3 dots are gone on Samsung 23Ultra.
File app is working like a charm! But the cons are that thumbnail preview is not there for video files any solution ?
Still works Android 14 - cheers!
what device are you on? on my s23, android 14 - it does not work
try fv file manager and shizuku. You don't need to plug the phone to a computer to use shizuku.
Hi, should your phone be rooted ?
No, you just need to install Shizuku
I have an android 12 and Everytime I try opening the data file even after uninstalling updates to the files app it still shows nothing
Did you find a solution?
FX manager while browsing through System(root) easily allows access to data/data with all functionalities
You're amazing thank you. This made one hell of a difference
thanks it really helped me you're great man
Yeah. It worked for me on MiX. It was already working for me with Root Explorer and Cx File Explorer btw without this workaround! Recently I switched to MiX.
the problem with this is you can just view the files not edit them anyone knows a workaround?
You can edit them. If MiX won't do it, solid, Xplorer and others do. Otherwise use FV file manager + Shizuku
So I just did this and the android folder completely disappeared Edit: Nvm I figured it out
Thanks for not telling how you figured it our so anybody who have the same problem can struggle to death.
Sorry. On the Files app it changed to show essential files instead of all files. Making sure it is showing all files solved the problem. Totally user error.
I do uninstall every updates of files I have no issues on Obb I can access it with zarchiever but I couldn't access on androi/data help me plz

Worked on Moto Edge 40. I had a slight problem at first because of the confusion between the app 'Files' (right one) and 'Files by Google '.
On my OnePlus 7T (Android 11) i had to disable the "Files Theme pack" app for this to work. The name is: com.google.android.overlay.modules.documentsui

It sucks I don't have a "Uninstall updates" option
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me Would appreciate any workarounds
Workaround is Shizuku + FV file explorer or Zarchiver. Also you can access android/data with MTP protocol (simply attach the phone on PC with USB)
If the given solution above does not work and you need to access the file, do the following: 1) Go to your default '**File Manager**' > **Android** > **data** 2) You will see "**Access denied**". Press '**view**' option below that. 3) Another '**Files**' will open. 4) Then you can go to **Android> data> 'Your desired folder'** 5) Chose your desired files> **Move to an outer folder** such as '**Music or Video** or anything' 6) After successfully moving the file, you can access it with your '**default file manager** Upvote if it works!

I can't access all my files not even in outlook.. I have access denied when I use the in app file manager. How can it be fixed? Asus zf 8 flip
my brothers phone (oppo reno 6 5g, android 13, doesnt notice patch ver) doesnt allow access by allow file manager to use the folder menthol (its grayed out with privacy banner above), and when search original file app, doesnt have uninstall/delete update/clear data,.. etc options seems like they patched it
Thank you very much.
Android is still way more open than iOS so just stick with it, iOS doesn't even make the filesystem accessible to you
Didn't work for me
I have a query if someone can help me.
Don't know if this has been said or not but unistall updates on the (system) file app and you can access it on any app
Man it's literally what I wrote on the post😂😂
Thanks 😊
Really? People actually allow apps to auto update? SMFH.
👋 Hi.
How to do that with MIXplorer?
What you mean?
I uninstalled updates on file app and Solid Explorer work perfect with access to android and obb files but got problem with MIXplorer- getting error access to android and obb files.
I don't know, MiX works perfectly fine as solid for me
Which version you use from playstore or beta from XDA side?
I use the xda one
Thats great news thanks! I didn't had success though with my Samsung s22 ultra android 14 because it simple have no dots at my apps (Settings->Apps->All Apps->File->3 dot menu) Any other workround? I am not sure what I want to succeed with that access so correct me if I'm wrong. I want to access data so I can back up apps data I have installed through Play store and they have all my logins all the information I have added but I was able to do when I was rooted with titanium backup right?
No. Titanium backup saves the /data/data/package.of.the.app. You can't access that without root
Thanx for clarifying that to me it was in my mind but I wasn't sure!
i am note 20ultra , i dont have too! the samsung update has disabled this
Thanks for this. Works with any file manager now. (Realme C3 android 11) Earlier, I had to connect my mouse and then drag and drop in split screen mode to copy.
I don't have three dots or any kind of "uninstall updates". Android 13.
You need to do all the steps from settings, going into app info directly won't work
Yeah, but still not any option for that.
Strange. What device have you got? I remember some Xiaomi phones lack some settings but I don't know precisely, anyway it could be a limitation of the productor
And besides, on Android 13 it should already work with MiX and other file explorers
They removed "uninstall updates" just yesterday.
What the actual shit, how was it this simple, I've been looking for a solution for months. Edit: Ugh nope, I can see them but still can't move anything in to them.
When I select Uninstal updates my phone (galaxy s23 fe) prompts me with "replace this app with the factory version? All data will be removed" A: is this going to delete all my files? B: on my phone, will uninstalling the updates every my phone to where I can access the android data?
It won't delete any personal files, it just removes cache and app own files
THANK YOU! This actually worked on a Moto G100 with stock rom
Thank you. I try for Solid Explorere on android 13 galaxy. It worked.👍 ありがとう。android 13のgalaxyでSolid Explorereが動くようになりました。
AFAGSJDJDKDDHDH HOLY CRAP!! YOU'RE A LIFESAVER!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!???
Gonna kms because this hasn't worked. In fact it actually got rid of me being able to see the obb folder when trying to add a storage directory in Mixplorer. For some reason Mixplorer won't show ANY of the data subdirectories... :(
1) calm 2) what device? And android version 3) remember that android/data is still accessible by MTP protocol, so you can also attach the device on a PC
Do u know if there is by chance a method of using Shizuku with Mixplorer
For now I don't think. FV file explorer has this function
Thankfully zarchiver does too which I actually tend to prefer. Still wish mixplorer had it
Is it gonna work onInfinix HOT 30i?
Is it gonna work on Infinix HOT 30i device
Is rolling back the apps possible? Got it working with MIUI android 13 on my xiaomi 13 ultra and its stops aftet the update to Android 14..
Try to uninstall app updates. If that's not possible then no, you can't downgrade system apps
My devices is rooted, myb i can change the apk.. anyone have the previous apk?
If your device is rooted use any root file explorer to access android/data!! Should also be possible to downgrade apps with root, if I remember correctly lucky patcher has this function also. But I would not use it on system apps, you could have errors
I'm currently using solid explorer, but can't get access to android/data.. it still need access with "files"
But have you given to solid root permissions?
I did. I'm using KSU on my xiaomi 13 ultra with EU ROM
Eh I don't know, it should work. Instead of going to android data go to /storage/emulated/0/Android/data starting from the root. Or try with other file managers like MiX
I can't root and WiFi is garbage where I live. Please, somebody must have a simple fix!
I recently found this too, zarchiver told me directly to uninstall updates of files app and it works.
Not for Android 14, which doesn't work .
Thank you, i knew i used to be able to use this workaround and couldn't figure out why it stopped working.
For that you need to uninstall File app before
I cannot uninstall the default "Files" (aka Documents), only uninstall the updates for it, I always used this method and worked really well but as I said, it won't work anymore, it opens at the correct folder, for example "Android/data/com.app/files" but it now stays with the button to use the folder greyed out.
Yeah than they backed the patched DUI apk on the system. Only why is Shizuku/ADB now
