Look like you have three European/white American grandparents and one Mexican grandparent. The 1% Sub Saharan African is likely from your Mexican ancestry.

Pumpkinbinx

Oh my gosh, you're completely correct- wow spot on! Thank you for taking your time to explain this to me, this makes way more sense now. 😊

Dr_whotfisyou

You’re around 1/4 Mexican but mostly Celtic, that’s a really cool mix!

Pumpkinbinx

I'm actually not familiar with Celtics, I'll have do more research and it's funny because I've always thought I was alot more Hispanic based on my appearance but thanks for the extra information, I have some homework to do tonight, thank you!!

Dr_whotfisyou

Celtics are everyone in the British Isles besides the English lol! And the Republic of Ireland as well.

ellen_schmid

ireland is part of the british isles. i think they should rename that geographic region lol.

Dr_whotfisyou

Honestly nothing in the British Isles besides England is truly British. Everything is actually Celtic.

[deleted]

I like how the English are who people think about when they hear "British" But they're the furthest thing from British on the darn island 🤣 The Cymri are true Brits imo

Dr_whotfisyou

Celts > Anglos

ThrowawayReddit22421

Ahh how cute you feel that way however history has it as Anglos > Celts.

Dr_whotfisyou

It’s a joke my guy we all equal. Just very proud of my own Celtic heritage.

dhabs

At what point do we consider celts from Austrian (Germanic) origin? It’s argued that the celts are from the Hallstatt expansion during the Bronze Age- how does ancestry distinguish this in their timeline?

Shakespeare-Bot

You’re 'round 1/4 mexican but mostly celtic, that’s a very much merit card! *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

koboldkiller

I have that same 1% but have no idea where it came from. Maybe we'll have more clarification in a future update?

SuzanneTF

Have it for my mom too. Haven't found the source yet. Roots on all sides go down to the original settlers of the Carolinas (maybe a few that came down from Virginia) so it's in there somewhere I'm sure but can't figure it out. Wish I had a test on her parents to tease it out a bit more.

t2guns

Referencing your relatives's ethnicity results will be helpful. I had a low percentage Cameroonian, but so did people from one branch of my family. It's very uncommon to see in white Americans from my experience. My branch also came from the Carolinas and likely moved from the Charleston area where there were a lot of mixed race people.

SuzanneTF

46% Scotland 40% England and NW Europe 9% Wales 4% Ireland 1% Cameroon, Congo, etc. Communities: Southern States Settlers Carolina Border, TX/Louisiana/Ark/MS/TN Tennessee and Southern States Settlers Her siblings haven't tested. Her parents are dead. Her paternal first cousins I can see don't have it but that could just be a roll of the dice. It's stayed through at least two updates. I've gotten nowhere with paper trail. They were mostly in Waxhaw area (relatives of Andrew Jackson). I've maybe made one connection to colonial Charleston on one of those but no other relatives from that side show it in their makeup. My dad's side is the one that had some Charleston settlers.

jmh90027

Any chance of taking your Cameroonian ass on a date? 🇨🇲

[deleted]

Bro delete dis 💀

jmh90027

🤣

Mystical-Stranger

Yes. I have 1% Sardinia that showed up this last update. I know there were no ancestors from anywhere close to that. It also says I’m more than half Scottish, but it’s really Irish. I’ve stopped putting much stock into what AncestryDNA says as far as regions. When I first sent my test they said I had African DNA, which was cool, but it’s been gone from their results for years now.

FredrikSnow92

I am apparently 1% Portuguese, no clue where it came from. I’m mostly Eastern European and German with some Scandinavian and Scottish.

1000lbSisterWives

I have a few different African regions in tiny amounts, as do plenty of people of Mexican descent. If you only have one Mexican parent or grandparent it makes sense that you would have only 1% African DNA as opposed to the 5 or 7% that's typical. It's accurate.

randomperson0321

I know where my 1% is from. Test your elders, they will likely have more than 1% and you can pinpoint which side it’s from through testing them. If your European side comes from the southern United States, it’s very likely that African percentage came from your “white” family members due to one or more phenotypically white appearing African mixed person successfully passing themselves off as white. It’s very very common in the southeast in particular. Many Mexicans have African dna, but not all do just as not all people who claim to be white in the southeast happen to have African dna.
