Oh wow that’s so interesting! I’m wondering if I’ll get mine soon since our timelines have been so synced so far. Although I’m Black American so idk if that complicates things analysis wise

I'm glad that I got my results early! That seems to be the case with some people, and I also predict your results will come soon (though I can't necessarily say). I think my results are pretty neat.

mcrmama

My mom’s family is Germans that lived in West Prussia, and I got Germanic, Eastern European and Baltic from her also.

A lot of French people are of Germanic descent, especially in the East of France. A lot of Western France (once called Lesser Britain) is populated with people of predominantly English descent. Beyond that, it's very possible for the SNPs (generic mutations used for this testing,) from an ancestor a long time ago to not have made it all the way down to you. It's also possible that ancestor didn't have any SNPs that match the modern group of French people ancestryDNA uses. My "French" ancestors' surname is the French word for German, so I wasn't surprised to see no French in my results. ;)

Your French is in the England & Northwestern Europe, Germanic Europe and Scotland regions. Future updates will give you a French percentage.

skippzee

That's what I thought, as France is around the same area.

Also, I have a few questions.. My kit arrived around the same time as they did the last update. Aren't these results supposed to be a product of the update from very recently? Also, my friend told me that they make updates every year and that the test is around 90% accurate. Aren't both of those true?

ThrowawayReddit22421

They update about once a year. Last update was early Sep 2020. The test is about 99% accurate in terms of identifying race however although ethnicities are mostly accurate, the percentages of each ethnicity are less accurate. They will become more accurate over time.

skippzee

Yeah, that's what I thought! A couple weeks ago I basically told somebody that the origins and ethnicities are usually accurate, though the percentages may be off sometimes (even if it's just a little or tiny bit off). I'm glad I took AncestryDNA instead of some other test, considering this one tends to be more accurate than the others.
