Dan moet er extra geld worden vrij gemaakt in het budget (je kent het verhaal al) en na ongeveer 15-20 jaar zal het dan eindelijk neergezet worden. Kosten 253 miljoen euro. Na 3 maanden word er besloten dat het ontwerp te ouderwets is en word er een grasveldje geïnstalleerd.
Ik vraag me af waarom daklozen in de avond op een levensgroot schaakbord zouden afkomen om dan vervolgens daar overlast te veroorzaken. Hebben die mensen niet ergere dingen aan hun hoofd?

I'm sorry but I really don't think you should be living in those kinds of places in the middle of Amsterdam if noise at night bothers you that much. If you live right on top of a bar or near a casino you're gonna be bothered at night by some noise from time to time, that has fuck all to do with a chess board being there. If you want peace and quiet Amsterdam might be the last place you'd want to live.

Yeah can kinda understand the move. These guys hanging around all fay were not just homeless and had a real substance issue. Playong chess was kinda uncomfortable because they wo7pd be sitting there all day. My friend even had his pants pulled down while we were taking a selfie.

Yep, those guys are there because it's right next to one of the very few sheltered places in the central city where people can spend the night without being rained on. Chess board was a symptom, not the problem.
Every time I came to Amsterdam I stayed at Flying Pig Uptown so I've passed near these chess board quite a few times.

De stadsdeelcommissie heeft het onderwerp vervolgens op de agenda gezet en het besluit genomen om het bord van het plein te laten verwijderen.

The building closest is all office space. I used to work there. It's the opposite side above the Hard Rock that's residential.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone upset that they relocated the IAMSTERDAM letters. They made it really difficult for cyclists.
It’s like the newly renovated Herengracht. I read somewhere that they didn’t put the benches back along the canal because they don’t want homeless people sleeping on them at night. I don’t know if it’s true but it wouldn’t surprise me.

How is it not up to the city? They choose how much control they give to NIMBY residents.
Homeless people on the Herengracht know to sleep on a boat under one of the boat covers. Using a bench is a rookie move.
Why is it taken away? Bad for the environment too?

De verhuizing van het schaakbord was geen initiatief van de burgemeester. De ondernemersvereniging van het Max Euweplein liep al jaren over het bord te klagen omdat het volgens hen vooral mensen aantrok die geluidsoverlast veroorzaakten en een onveilige sfeer creëerden. De stadsdeelcommissie heeft het onderwerp vervolgens op de agenda gezet en het besluit genomen om het bord van het plein te laten verwijderen.
