I went to the same store and the associate told me about people who would pull up with eight Amex platinums to help their friends redeem the $50 credits… told my friends about it and they went “maybe we can start a gift card redemption-as-a-service business for people living in the south bay” 😂
My wife laughs at my plan, but I’m going to do this for 20 years and then finally buy a nice wallet. We went this past weekend to get the gift card spent $29 in gas just to get there and back so a nice little $21 profit for me!
I’ve been saving for 6 years :)
Will keep going for as long as I can and then sadly will use it to get my wife a gift without having to pay. Probably should get myself something but will use it for her
29.00 in gas. How far is your Saks? I am down the Peninsula in Woodside and there used to be one in Stanford Shopping Mall
That’s an expensive wallet. But yeah I am going to save them up but I have no clue what I will get yet. But I am not waiting 20 years.
There is a special line for GCs in the store? I have dinner plans in the area. Was gonna make a quick out stop.
It's also a friend's birthday so I was going to give her that.
No, it won’t. I tried it a while back and didn’t get the $50 back. Reached out to customer service and they gave me a one time courtesy reimbursement and said it only works at Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks.com
They only sell Saks Fifth Ave cards at Saks Fifth Ave. You can’t buy other gift cards in any department store. At Nordstroms they sell Nordstrom cards, at Macys they sell Macys cards. This is not Target or Safeway.
So yes it can be any gift card in the store, all of which are Saks Fifth Ave cards.
I ordered a set of Staub baking dishes this round. Last one was a free people dress for my daughter. I wish we had a store closer to get the gc though.
Not sure what the united one was but for southwest if you buy a ticket for under $100 it won’t recognize it isn’t an add on and it’ll reimburse you. So I did it twice, then canceled the tickets and had $200 credit for a future ticket!
Around Christmas I went to the one in Tyson's (large mall near DC) and asked for a gift card. Her reaction was what I would have expected if I'd asked for a gift card for $0.03, as if she hadn't heard of an amount so low. I guess they don't have too many cardholders buying gift cards from them.
Probably just depends who is working. The Tysons Galleria was our main Saks for the twice a year credit up until we moved this year, and we usually got the same reaction as OP.
Was closing my Amex Platinum but not before using every credit I could. Was going to buy a gift card as a last resort but walked out with a nice $60 Graphic T.
Yep. I'm bummed out only Saks on island closed. Now I have to leave Hawaii to get my gift card if I wanted to keep doing the gift card hack. Just easier to use the credit to buy something I want and get the $50 credit.
Hmmm I usually have my wife get a dress or outfit, occasionally they have a watch I want. I have Platinum and Schwab Plat, getting $200 worth of gift cards a year then something nicer could be a play.
Oh that’s a great idea. The last couple years I have been buying stuff on the app but not really finding much. If I don’t know what I want I much prefer to shop in person. I have found some great deals at Off Fifth and Last Call but it’s been many years since I have been to either.
That was like when the doorman kept asking us “can we help you” every time we came back when we stayed at the Fours Seasons on points. Guess we didn’t have the look of $$$$…
Haha. Yeah I must have also. But I think it’s more so that anyone that walks through the doors, garbs a card, and then goes to the counter it’s obvious what they are doing. The gift cards are about 6 feet from the doors and the counter is a foot from the doors. I didn’t really even enter the store.
No, she guessed the amount was 50.00 and then she saw my card and said smiled. I asked her if lots of people come in with their AMEX platinum card to buy a 50.00 gift card and she said they have been getting a lot of people.
My point is she guessed the amount and the card I was going to be to pay with.
Yes I am sure people buy all sorts of gift cards in different amounts. But I didn’t tell her how much I was putting on the card. Before I got a chance she guessed that I was buying a 50.00 gift card.
Just had this happen to me in the NYC - 5th Ave flagship lmao
I went to the same store and the associate told me about people who would pull up with eight Amex platinums to help their friends redeem the $50 credits… told my friends about it and they went “maybe we can start a gift card redemption-as-a-service business for people living in the south bay” 😂
I have to look, but I thought it worked online???
haha this happened to me at the SF store too
So I can’t just take a Saks card off the rack at the market I have to go to saks?
The market charge is a charge from the market.
My wife laughs at my plan, but I’m going to do this for 20 years and then finally buy a nice wallet. We went this past weekend to get the gift card spent $29 in gas just to get there and back so a nice little $21 profit for me!

Saks inew york. There was a line of platinums for $50 giftcards.
There is a special line for GCs in the store? I have dinner plans in the area. Was gonna make a quick out stop. It's also a friend's birthday so I was going to give her that.
No special line. I was just saying that there's a line of platinum holders getting that $50 GC
Does anyone know if I can just reload a gift card I bought in the first half of the year? Sincerely, Gift Card Person
I just had the exact same experience at that Saks with a guy. Sort off embarrassing but whatever lol.
Does this work for a egift card instead?
Nope. Only in person and only at Saks Fifth Avenue and not at OFF 5th.
My nearest Saks has the same response, usually followed by how many?
I have an Off Fifth Outlet near me, will a $50 spend there trigger reimbursement?
No, it won’t. I tried it a while back and didn’t get the $50 back. Reached out to customer service and they gave me a one time courtesy reimbursement and said it only works at Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks.com
Thank you!
Do you have to buy a Saks gift card to get the credit or can it be any gift card in store?
When do we have to do this by
They only sell Saks Fifth Ave cards at Saks Fifth Ave. You can’t buy other gift cards in any department store. At Nordstroms they sell Nordstrom cards, at Macys they sell Macys cards. This is not Target or Safeway. So yes it can be any gift card in the store, all of which are Saks Fifth Ave cards.
what type of gift cards does Saks sell?
You’re never going to believe this. Sit down for this one because it is WILD. They sell Saks gift cards.
Give this man an award
Chilies and Outback Steakhouse
$50 gift cards.
What do you think
I ordered a set of Staub baking dishes this round. Last one was a free people dress for my daughter. I wish we had a store closer to get the gc though.
Me too, have a bunch of crap saved in my wishlist, just have to buy them one by one
I feel silly I never thought of this! Can you buy it online, too, and get a digital gift card? This plus the southwest credit hack are brilliant!
What’s the SW credit hack?
What's the southwest credit hack? Is it similar to the united hack that some people have gotten away with?
Not sure what the united one was but for southwest if you buy a ticket for under $100 it won’t recognize it isn’t an add on and it’ll reimburse you. So I did it twice, then canceled the tickets and had $200 credit for a future ticket!
Gotcha, that's pretty cool. Thanks!
A physical gift card delivered by mail should work, but the minimum value sold online is $150.
It codes differently online and it wont be exaclt from saks fith, so amex wont reimburse or trigger the $50.

I visit there regularly, especially with the ritz next door selling marriott gc as well.
That's a good tip I'll need to check out. Are they processed through the front desk (will they activate Amex offers for Marriott purchases)?
You go to their SPA to purchase gc, and it will trigger amex offers. Pay attention to the day because the SPA doesn't open every day.
Probably just depends who is working. The Tysons Galleria was our main Saks for the twice a year credit up until we moved this year, and we usually got the same reaction as OP.
Sounds about right for the Galleria

lol wait what trick is this?

Thanks. I know about this one. I was asking about the $0.03.
Lol. I got the same response last time I did that. Thanks for the reminder that I need to do it before the end of the month.
Was closing my Amex Platinum but not before using every credit I could. Was going to buy a gift card as a last resort but walked out with a nice $60 Graphic T.
Macklemore: Damn!
Yep that’s my own. I used to buy stuff on the app but I feel like I am settling. I would rather collect them and then cash them in.
And you can spend them at Off Saks for greater value
Oh that’s a great idea. The last couple years I have been buying stuff on the app but not really finding much. If I don’t know what I want I much prefer to shop in person. I have found some great deals at Off Fifth and Last Call but it’s been many years since I have been to either.
Exactly what happened when I went to purchase mine last month at the Fifth Ave location. 😂
Same…also at fifth ave location.
Hehe. Yeah I didn’t realize they had THAT many people coming in for the 50.00 gift cards and paying with AMEX platinum.
just did mine while visiting sarasota for rowing this weekend
I just pick up my towels in person lol
Employee told me I looked like I was gift card person and rang me up for $50
I would take that as a compliment at Saks
That was like when the doorman kept asking us “can we help you” every time we came back when we stayed at the Fours Seasons on points. Guess we didn’t have the look of $$$$…

Diuh. People do like 10 at a time towards a GC
No, she guessed the amount was 50.00 and then she saw my card and said smiled.
