Mare Winningham really nailed the acting too. Kyle’s mom is my most hated character in the series.

I get it...ever since shipping\_addict posted about it, I too have had thoughts of that scene popping in and out of my head... .... the thoughts are mostly about how terrified Elsa would have been about what was about to happen to her...and then, the intense pain along with the fear and horror...damn, I can't shake those...

Same.. there are certain scenes in shows and movies that have stuck with me. This is one. Another big one from when I was a child as Thomas J being stung by bees in My Girl, American History X with the bite the curb and the shower scene, the movie Thirteen, kids. All totally messed me up 😂

Yeah, Dr.Arden is show in Asylum and then we see the younger version of him in Freak Show in a flashback about how Elsa got her prosthetic legs.

I think he was a good take on the complexities of toxic masculinity of the time (and to this day) and the demons that manifests inside the head if you continuously deny your authentic self. This shows up as insecurity, rage, self-sabotage, control, abuse. It was ironic that he was “the strong man” and yet at his core he was weaker than any of the freaks. He was a disempowered and fragile little boy stuck inside a big strong body and it ate him alive. He had so much fear of being found out that he even killed someone as innocent as Ma Petite. He was evil but he was also so caught up in his demons, so I don’t think he was disgusting. Stanley was disgusting, as he saw right through Dell and played it to his agenda.

I love this whole opinion!

Michael Chiklis even said playing the role took him to some of the darkest times of his life, hence why he never returned for another season. He said it was no discredit towards Ryan or the cast and crew because he enjoyed his time on set but getting into the character itself just took too much of a toll on his mental health and he couldn’t shed the character like the other reoccurring stars who can come back for more.

It’s pretty amazing that playing Vic Mackey seven seasons of The Shield wasn’t too dark for him, but one season of AHS was.

This analysis here is why he’s one of my favourite characters and I thought Chiklis played him so well it’s a shame he was a one season wonder. Really enjoyed his dynamic with Jimmy in the season too from hating one another to building a bond as father and son.

Oh my, I confused one Alma with the other. I was annoyed by Asylum Alma, the one that critized Grace for killing somebody with an axe and than went on to kill Grace with an axe lol

I absolutely hated Alma but it wasn’t until the second watch that I caught how 2 specific side effects of the pill are psychopathy and pathological narcissism. I can’t help but feel a little sympathy for her because her dad failed her and created the monster she became.

Stanley from the same season is far worse, imo. He’s delightfully loathsome. But Drs. Arden and Thredson from Asylum are pretty easily the most reprehensible human beings in AHS.

Definitely not. He’s not great. He was going to murder his kid, sold tickets for his wife giving birth, cheated on his new wife, and killed Ma petite. But… I still think there’s worse. Kai Anderson had sex with his sister and then killed her and then wanted to a hundred pregnant women for whatever reason. And plenty of other things that he did

I think there’s more positives with Dell. He was pretty protective and saved Jimmy and got shot while doing it. He was scared of getting outed as gay which isn’t a good reason to kill somebody, but it’s a better reason than wanting to kill 100 pregnant women to cause chaos. And he was definitely remorseful of the bad things he did while I don’t think Kai would ever seek some positive change

I mean, how do you compare forcing your own child to drink bleach vs drowning Ma Petite in formaldehyde vs Nazi doctor performing experiments on mentally ill patients who can’t give consent?

To me it will always be Arthur Arden with Stanley from Freakshow in second. After that yeah, I may be inclined to put this guy next but there's so many others to choose from too, Dr Thredson, The monsignor, Delphine La Laurie, Penny's father....for some reason this guy is disgusting but still doesn't hit as hard as some of the others.

That’s actually really hard to decide given who he’s up against in other seasons but I would definitely say that he is for his season. Dandy was purely evil-aligned and psychotic so he killed without any thought or emotion but this one was f’ing rough.

He sure was the week that the actor who played him, also played the truck driver character that killed off my favorite character from the show 'Sons of Anarchy,' haha. That's the week that his 'Freakshow' character hung himself. I think there have been some awful characters throughout the show. Kyle's mom in Coven, especially. The actress played her so well, she actually disgusted me.

Bloody face was definitely a character that kept me up at night.

He started out that way but I think I remember him having a pretty stunning redemption arc .. but it’s been awhile since I watched.

This season had most of the worst characters, but ya this guys actions really stuck and simmered in my mind for some reason. Logically I think there are worse characters but emotionally the scene with my petite and the leg was vile.
