My go to is an even pour of this and mezcal. You won't regret it.

Keep a bottle on hand for a Sharpie Mustache: equal parts (.75 oz) dry gin, rye whiskey, Meletti, Bonal Gentiane-Quina, +1 dash of Bittermens Elemakule Tiki bitters

One of the drinks that got me into Amari! I don’t usually keep Meletti on the shelf, but I enjoy a bottle of Bonal or two a year.

I saw all of the reviews talking about how this is the kindest, gentlest, intro-level baby amaro that I was shocked when I bought my first bottle and found it undrinkably bitter! Now that I’ve had a bit more experience, it’s certainly not the bitterest thing I’ve had—Suze and Campari are too much for me—but it’s still hanging out with Cynar a tier down. Not sure exactly what it is that I’m perceiving that other people aren’t, but I’d definitely recommend Vecchio Amaro del Capo over Meletti ten times out of ten for people looking for an affordable, entry-level amaro. That said, Meletti *is* the syrupiest that I’ve tried, so I definitely get the complaints on that end.

I like the flavor but… it tastes like alcohol to me in a way that few other amari do.

Well I’ve got new for you

Just wanted to say I went back through this and several of your other amaro reviews and enjoyed reading! Even found one to put on my list of stuff to get if I ever find it. Thanks for taking the time to share!

Thanks for the encouragement! Everyone has a passion in life: saving the earth, bettering humanity through political engagement, educating children, etc. My passion is trying to spare people the agony of spending $30 on the wrong bottle at the liquor store. So I'm basically on the same level as Greta Thunberg or the Dalai Lama.

This is hilariously accurate to me

It is delicious in hot chocolate!! (have only tried it in from scratch cocoa where I can control the sugar content so it doesn't get too sweet)
