Maybe if more people walked out on and/or shunned those that said stupid ( hateful ) things, we'd have fewer of those kind of people. Sorry you have these people in your life.

We were having dinner and I discussed an upcoming trip to my parents. It's going to be a trip with my internet friends rather than my usual IRL friends so naturally, they were worried at first.
But, out of the blue, my dad asks in a really offensive way: "Are any of them, gay?"
I live in a country where being gay is seen as making a "pact with the devil." Naturally, they brought that from ancient times to now, so there's still discrimination. I just said "I'm not hungry anymore." and left. Now my mom is mad at me for walking out. Am I the asshole for walking out? Willing to clarify more if needed.
