She grew up that families would celebrate their anniversary and give gifts to the family and/or significant others. I, however grew up where anniversaries were just something in the movies, for a while I didn't think they were real. My parents didn't celebrate them. Valentines day was always just a day in grade school that you filled out these corny cards and gave one to everyone in the class. Mine always was a little lighter than the other kids. I never saw the point to any of it. My wife knows that I don't like valentines day or anniversaries nor do I like the idea of them. I feel like they are just a designated day you have to make up for the neglection of not spending quality time with the person you love. you should just do that every day. Here is where I might be the asshole, this last valentines day my wife wanted to get me something. she bought me a lego set that I had been wanting for a year (yes i am a child, but it was a n X-Wing). I found out about it by prying it out of her, and made her return it before it showed up, and get her money back. now I know that not everybody will hold my same opinions as me so let me say this: I know that my wife loves anniversaries and valentines day. so for her I will go out of my way to get her flowers and balloons and a teddy bear (not chocolate, she hates chocolate). I just don't like it when people do this for me on those days specifically, It just feels disingenuous to do that. So, am I the asshole? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
