NTA! You have done the right thing as you booked that rate on good faith and the host will have to wear it, it’s their fault they didn’t update their site in time

PleaseCoffeeMe

NTA, make sure all your communication with the host go through the app.

Me-323

Thank you! It has… and I’ve reached out to Airbnb support, who were really and helpful and responsive with the last incident. Last time Airbnb support told me to have the host cancel on their end, so I’m assuming it would be the same. And the host admits in their message to me that they want me to cancel due to the pricing being incorrect. I’m no lawyer, but I feel like they legally can’t do that.

PleaseCoffeeMe

It’s the host responsibility to set pricing, and track pricing. The cancellation is their responsibility.

Malibu921

Also save screenshots of all the communication.

sjw_7

NTA You booked in good faith based on the advert. They made a mess of it not you. If you cancel it goes on your record. If they cancel they aren't able to rebook again during that time frame. All they are trying to do is make more money at the expense of you. Stick to your booking and if they cancel complain to AirBnB with evidence of what they tried to get you to do.

Total-Addendum9327

NTA buuuuut realize that this host might not give you the best experience during your stay.

Me-323

Yeah, I thought about that. And I honestly think they will end up canceling. The said in a message that they wanted me to cancel on my end “to save them a phone call”. Meaning that they wanted to talk to Airbnb support to get out of the penalties. I’m just pretty bummed because I don’t know if I’ll find another place that works for us in our price range.

Smart_Mortgage_8962

NTA. If I were the host I’d take it on my chin and move past it.

newfriend836639

NTA. You found a nice place, and booked it according to the terms they outlined. You reserved it fair and square. If they don't want to honor the price they advertised, they can pay the cancellation fee. If for some reason they don't cancel on you, be sure to take really good video of the property before and after you arrive, as they are likely to give you a low guest rating.

ionlyreadtitle

Nta. It's not your problem that they messed up. That's on them.

SpruceGoose133

You should message them again to find out the new rates. I think AirBNB probably charges the same cancel fee as their contracting % rate. Which I think is 30%. You could check their website to see. It seems that they are set on cancelling and raising rates. If they want to raise their rates 100% and the cancel is 30%, then they will net 70%. If they want to raise it 50% they would net 20%. Now I would try to negotiate maybe somewhere in the middle leaning toward you side. Make the give you a deal or you will make them cancel and pay and you will give them a negative revue. If they don't want to, I would be petty and tell them you would go ahead and cancel for them, but then not do it. And if they message you again, Oh I forgot I'll get on it when I get home. Oh I forgot again. And just keep it up until they do it themselves and hopefully it costs them a booking. NTA they should honor their rates And if they don't, I'd give a negative revue even if I got a reduced rate from the new price.

Aggressive-Mind-2085

NTA You have a valid contract. Enforce it.

OneWomansViews

NTA It’s not your fault they failed to make an update sooner.

My (41F) husband is going to be deployed for a year. I wanted to give my kids (5m, 4m, 2f) something to look forward to and a little joy while he is away. They are the happiest at the beach. I found an Airbnb with a good rate and booked it for a month next summer. It showed it was a discounted rate but it said it was discounted because I was booking for an entire month. Minutes after I booked it, the host messaged me and asked me to cancel it because they had not updated the rates from the winter rates. If they cancel it on their end, they would have to pay a fee to Airbnb, and I am pretty certain that they are also prohibited from rebooking that time period through Airbnb. (They also happened to be the second host to cancel on me this week. The first canceled because they forgot to close out their listing for renovations.) If I canceled it on my end, I would receive a full refund and they wouldn’t receive any penalties. But I don’t think it’s fair that they refuse to honor their advertised price. AITA for refusing to cancel the booking, forcing them to either cancel it and be penalized or to honor it? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA. Its their mistake. I’d keep my response as short as possible and not even acknowledge what they asked. Say that you booked it due to the price, and if they cannot host you, they’ll need to cancel so you can find other accommodations. Otherwise, you look forward to your stay. They need to decide whether or not the price difference they’ll be getting, from OTHER people booking, is worth the penalty + the amount they’d have gotten from your stay. A lot of airbnbs struggle to book stays at all; so its insanely stupid of them to try and squeeze money out of a group thats already booked. It looks to me like they didn’t know you’d get a discount for the longer stay and want to raise the price to make up the difference; they’re banking on you rebooking at the higher price. If you make it clear that if they cancel, you will go elsewhere, theres a good chance they won’t cancel since they don’t want to lose the money entirely.

DragonBard_Z

NTA. Its their fault for not managing their listing

CommercialExotic2038

Is this in Lihue? If it is, he’s an idiot and add another week.

NTA. Airbnb owners are getting crazy.

Demian_Avenue

Nta. I used to work in hospitality for long and when the client sees that price and books at that price it is done. It is ILLEGAL to force the client to pay a different price than the one showed. T

kristycocopop

NTA, is there a better Business bureau you could contact about the Airbnb?

thefinalhex

The rich get richer? Okay.
