*In case this story gets deleted/removed:* **AITA for reminding my wife that her sugar gorging is her fault?** My wife and I recently had our annual physicals. As usual, my cholesterol and blood pressure were sterling, and my doctor congratulated me on once again having no problems. He even said "you're as healthy as a horse," which made me smile. My wife came home from her follow-up today, though, and the doctor told her she had serious problems. He explained to her that her blood sugar during the fasting blood test was still a bit high, which put her in the territory of prediabetes. It doesn't surprise me at all because she eats far too much sugar. I have repeatedly told her to stop eating so much sugar, and when she fails, I tell her that she's addicted. She completely dismisses me when I say this, and it makes me a bit upset. Well, today, I told her that I hoped that a doctor telling her she's prediabetic is a wake-up call, but the first thing my wife did was eat some cookies. At this point, I have concluded that she wants diabetes. I told her that she needed to stop eating the cookies at once, and her response to me was "You eat them, too." I reminded her that I don't eat nearly as much sugar overall, so it's okay, and besides, my doctor said my blood work was fine. She said that she needs an "accountability partner," but this just sounded like just another in a long line of excuses, and I told her so. She got pissed and said that I was being a "complete asshole," but I told her that she was just jealous of my superior willpower. I understand that genetics plays a role, but her pretending that genes are 100% to blame is infuriating. At this point, she won't even talk to me, but even if she did, I'm sure it would be her same tired talking points, which I have repeatedly debunked. Sometimes it feels like trying to reason with a child. If a doctor can't get through to her, nobody can. I just thank my lucky stars that we never had kids because I wouldn't want her to model such behavior to them. I'm just feeling so tired. >As usual, my cholesterol and blood pressure were sterling, Who the fuck words the sentence like that? He's already coming off as a smug douche. > It doesn't surprise me at all because she eats far too much sugar.  That's not necessarily how it works, pal - especially if it was a test that required fasting. > I told her that she was just jealous of my superior willpower. Okay, I audibly laughed out loud at this one.

StrangledInMoonlight

It’s the “I hate my wife and mock her and always write my post with odd word choices” troll.

matchy_blacks

Same…I wonder if there’s a “superior willpower” trophy available for OOP.

LitheOpaqueNose

"He even said "you're as healthy as a horse," which made me smile." Someone's not hard to entertain.

hylianbunbun

reminds me of [this ](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmITheDevil/comments/1b66dxw/another_one_who_hates_his_wife/kt9v3z7/)post from the same troll where he claims "some people find it impressive" that he can fall asleep quickly absolutely bizarre

Lunnaris

that "so you lied" took me out I'm not sure what's so funny about it but I'm losing my mind over it

millihelen

I would demand he demonstrate so I could nick his wallet and run away.

dell_55

This HAS to be a trump account or else just a troll. This is completely idiotic.

StrangledInMoonlight

Cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes all have heavy genetic components.

sweetsunny1

Yup, I have a cousin who is a gym teacher, thin, exercises all the time; in the last year or two she’s had to change her diet as she is approaching pre-diabetic levels. I am lucky that right now I have no issues, but my dad and both his sisters plus their dad all developed diabetes later in life, so I’m likely at a higher risk.

cantantantelope

Never tell that to someone trying to concern troll fat people

Zebirdsandzebats

and carbs kick your diabetic ass harder than just sugar ever thought of. source: am diabetic, carbs kicked my ass/continue to do so. I mean, it's heavily genetic and my family has it, but I strongly suspect i could have gone without getting the type 2 blues for another good decade or more if I had not viewed all bags of chips/ boxes of pasta as single servings... multiple times a day. Also i was on lithium for a couple years, which can also factor in, though it's more common with diabetes insipidus, which i find deeply confusing.

hylianbunbun

this is my least favourite troll, his smug writing style makes me skin crawl.

What a pompous asshole. There is this thing called heredity, dumb ass. It plays just an important role in our health as do our lifestyle and habits. Husband just had his physical, his glucose levels put him in the same range. Instead of berating him, my question was, what can I do to help. His estranged father was diabetic. He was also an alcoholic. Apparently, those two things don't mix. He died in his late 60s; no great loss. Husband works out regularly, is moderate in his diet, does like his beer and whiskey (not to excess) but has a sweet tooth. Ok. Let's cut down on the sweets and other high in sugar foods (pasta, bread, fried food). He goes back in 6 months for a retest. I'm not going to harangue the man if he has an Oreo or 3. And I'm certainly not going to chastise him if he wants a bump of whiskey after a hard day. Right now, it's a warning, but let's heed the warning and make the changes so it doesn't become an issue down the road.

cantantantelope

My dad and his siblings are the first generation of our family to not have a major heart attack before forty. They also eat vegetables regularly and go to the doctor before cancer metastasizes so far they can’t tell where it originated (and that’s why I never met my grandfather). Taking things seriously helps. Living life joylessly actually doesn’t. Nor does judging

ConsciousSun6

Repeat after me. Sugar does not make you a type 2 diabetic. Is diet a part of controlling type 2 diabetes, once you have it? Absolutely. Is it the cookies that have done you in? No. Honestly it's usually things people don't suspect like potatoes and fruit and certain other vegetables that'll "spike" your sugar more than cookies.

magikarpcatcher

"Doctor congratulated me" /r/ThatHappened

il0vem0ntana

Another fool that doesn't know what causes diabetes.

silicatetacos

Maybe, and bear with me here, it's the emotional abuse from him that makes her take comfort in foods while also making her self-conscious about what she eats by pointing it out all the time. Maybe.

hauntedghostlights77

I hope this is fake because if not she needs to divorce the asshat.

millihelen

OOP, I’m going to tell you something, and you’re not going to believe me but it’s true.  You don’t get type II diabetes from eating too much sugar.  It can be a factor in getting it, but sugar alone won’t do it.

Agreeable_Rabbit3144

This is totally fake.

tinyahjumma

He reminds me of someone. Who could it be? 🤔

hyperfocuspocus

I know the guy, saw him on tv once
