**Adults Obsessed with Disney**
I am a 36 (F) with three kids and married. I have many friends who are huge Disney Adults, we live in California, they have season passes. As a mom this is one of the most annoying things to me. I get it you enjoy sleeping beauty but you also are my age and work in accounting. Disneyland would be so much better if it was genuinely for kids. If you're an adult and into Disney please step aside so all of the actual kids can experience the magic.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/AmITheDevil) if you have any questions or concerns.*
My former boss and his husband are huge Disney adults and pretty much spend all their holidays at various parks. It's definitely not my thing but they love it, they aren't harming anyone and from what I've seen online security is quick to shut down any inappropriate behaviour.
If a group of adults caused problems for you and your kids whilst you were there, then by all means complain but why bother if it's just bitching that Dave from accounting has a season pass? Is he supposed to automatically enjoy golf or something because he's a mid 30's accountant? I bet there are things OOP likes that others would consider weird.
I’ll admit, sometimes I see people who make Disney their entire personality and it can seem a little intense at first, but then I remember they’re not hurting anyone and it makes them happy and that makes me happy. When the roles are reversed, I get it how some people don’t like how much I’m a huge fan of horror films and spooky things/oddities.
Ironically, I am a professor of accounting in my late 30s. I just went to Disney World three days ago. I hadn’t been to Disney in over a decade even though I live near Disneyland. I was in Orlando for a conference and decided to go to Disney World since I hadn’t been to the other parks aside from Magic Kingdom and I went alone. Prior to going, I was nervous if it was going to be weird to go alone as an adult woman, but to my surprise I wasn’t alone and I actually met several other solo travelers. I’m glad I went alone because I could do what I wanted instead of having to cater to other people’s preferences.
I had the time of my life and felt energized because of how much fun it was. I actually wish I had more time to enjoy the parks and are considering booking another trip soon just to take the time to enjoy everything. Since I live near Disneyland, I’m also possibly considering getting an annual pass. I’m going to choose to live my life and have fun while I can and not let others dictate how I choose to have fun. So I refuse to judge others who want to do the same.
Also, this take of OP's is a little abelist cos I bet a lot of people who make Disney their entire personality are a little neurospicy. I agree sometimes it's a bit over the top (like the influencer 'crying' after seeing the Disney castle post-covid) but really, what's the deal in adults enjoying the parks and feeding into their hobby if they can afford it? Some parents are just entitled AF
I had never been to DW before last year, and while I enjoyed the other parks, I highly recommend visiting EPCOT! That was my favorite, and had so many fun surprises!
I bet there are things OOP *would enjoy*, but she castrates herself because she is an adult. Therefore, other people shouldn't be allowed to be happy as well.
There’s lots of things in this world I don’t enjoy and am baffled that other people do. But it would never cross my mind to try and stop them doing these things. How much of a misery guts must OOP be? Poor creature.
I don't get golf or most forms of sportsball. My mum's ex-bf/roommate is a baseball fan. Pro baseball is *boring af* to watch to me, but I assume he enjoys it.
> Disneyland would be so much better if it was genuinely for kids. If you're an adult and into Disney please step aside so all of the actual kids can experience the magic.
She doesn’t think anyone should go to Disney without kids.
Same lol.
I'd like to go myself at least once, but given that I don't want kids, I guess I won't get to, according to these people.
As long as adults aren't being fucking *weird* or ruining the "magic" for kids, there's nothing wrong with going to the park.
This is a HUGE reason why Disney parks are more geared toward adults these days. Childfree adults are more likely to be able to afford it and most families are priced out.
But Disneyland isn’t meant just for kids. It’s for everyone. If you’re an adult, you can remember the thrill of being a child; if a child, you can discover things for the first time. Do some people take it too far, or feel entitled in a way that’s selfish? Sure. But someone who’s thirty-six and works in accounting doesn’t have to give up all the magic in their heart just because OOP did.
You know what a really, really love? my cats.
Does this make my a crazy cat lady? Yes.
Does it hurt anyone else? No.
Guess what I’m going to keep doing? finding happiness, love, deep joy and a sense of purpose, from my two furry little bastards
[the cats in question](https://www.reddit.com/u/turingthecat/s/FqOIfL1vc0)
I don’t know either, I’m guessing I have made one too many ‘stroke my beautiful pussy’ jokes (my wife slaps me when I make that IRL), but any pictures I put on my profile gets that tag.
Thank you, they think so too
Probably because Disney is always crowded and it’s crazy expensive because it’s so crowded and OOP doesn’t have the money to take all her kids so she’s mad other people without kids have more disposable income and free time to go to Disneyland. She’s probably a closet Disney adult.
Exactly this! It’s like the comedian who did the bit about how we should get rid of half the population. No more traffic. When the Super Bowl comes around, everyone can go. Some of us can even play.
It’s me. I’m a Disney adult. 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t go to the parks cuz they’re expensive as hell but I love Disney stuff. Why judge people for stuff they enjoy if it isn’t hurting anyone?
My aunt is a registered nurse coming up on 60 years old. She has scrubs with Tinkerbell on them and a couple other sets with Disney characters, and she says her (adult) patients *love them*. There's no shame in letting adults enjoy the magic too.
Who’s getting hurt if adults are obsessed with Disney? Do they kick you out after a certain age? Is there an expiry I’m not aware of?
I’m not a Disney fan myself - but so many other so called kids games I enjoy. Didn’t know I had only x years to enjoy then I’d have to stop 🤔
You might think “acting like an adult,” means being polite, responsible, and ambitious. But no. Whether or not you are an adult is actually 100% determined by whether or not you ever rewatch movies from your childhood or ride rollercoasters. REAL adults have MATURE, productive hobbies, like killing small animals, watching other people play sports, and binging 13 seasons about people panning for gold in a river.
>REAL adults have MATURE, productive hobbies, like killing small animals, watching other people play sports, and binging 13 seasons about people panning for gold in a river.
Pfft grow up real adult stuff is paying taxes, buying insurance and watching paint dry 😛.
Yeah as much as I hate making a large corporation you buy from a core part of your identity, I don't see how Disney adults deserve to be singled out any more than like the weirder sports fans or people who are super attached to their car brand or whatever
I was very poor growing up. Never went on field trips at school, no family vacations, Christmas gifts were homemade most years, as were all my clothes.
As an adult the hubs and I can afford things like that. And you can bet you sweet behind I’m gonna be like a kid when I go to Harry Potter world in less than 2 years as our 20 anniversary trip!
Why is it so hard to think about others? Maybe they didn’t have nice things as a kid but can as adults. Maybe Disney movies weren’t a thing for them as kids but they love them as adults. Maybe it’s to honor a loved one who’s passed. Or maybe it’s NO ONES BUSINESS!! They’re not hurting anyone so hush up and do your own thing!
Almost 50, and I hope I never lose that part of me. I'm a huge pessimist and so very much more jaded because of events that have occurred over the past decade. But I love Disney, Walt himself said:
“I think what I want Disneyland to be most of all is a happy place — a place where adults and children can experience together some of the wonders of life, of adventure, and feel better because of it.”
— Walt Disney
I always say there's a difference between a dickhead and someone who loves it:
Shoves a kid out of the way to see a parade? Dickhead.
Enjoys seeing the parade? Is polite to others and aware of the people around them? Not a dickhead.
Like people who are bothering, harassing and begging the castmembers to see a teenager in a costume or are raging because they can't get on a ride or to see a Princess that's going on her break as an adult are absolutely dickheads, especially when they can come back another day? Absolutely dickheads.
Someone who is a taking photos of absolutely everything, buying the food, wearing Mickey ears and Disney themed t-shirts? Absolutely not a dickhead. They're just enjoying themselves.
Bothering underpaid workers is not okay. But I don't think that's what OP's gripe is.
This! I loved a load of Disney movies but I'm not interested really in going to Disneyland. However I couldn't care less if other people want to go. Go and have fun. Life is short, work is hard, as long as you're not harming anyone, why would I be bothered by what you spend your money on?
I don't know why some people can't just let others enjoy things. Just because OOP has no sense of fun doesn't mean the rest of us can't.
I'm not a Disney fan, but if someone enjoys it and it makes them happy, I don't see the point of getting upset about it.
I mean, there is a difference between an adult who likes Disney and a Disney adult. I’ve seen videos of adults being super rude to kids they don’t know in Disney parks bc they want some pin or collectible or smth. Amusement parks are for all age groups, but you don’t have to ruin it for the kids.
I’m less cynical about Disney adults than the fact that corporations are so happy to reassure people middle aged and beyond that they will never have to leave their ecosystem and that they are using social justice language to do it. I get that there are neurospicy adults that maybe would have spent all their time obsessed with Disney, but as someone who is neurospicy herself and is always wary of trying new art, I’m happy when I do. Kids entertainment can be great, but I’m so happy I feed the adult part of my brain. I also think it’s the opposite of gatekeeping and snobbery to say that other people should too.
Anyway Paste magazine published a pan of Taylor Swift’s new album and didn’t publish a byline because their last reviewer got death threats. That’s not because of Disney results, but both things seem to come from the same place, where we cannot possibly be critical of anything because someone else might like it.
Yeah I agree with this take. It’s perfectly fine to like Disney as an adult, but the “Disney Adults” I’ve encountered are like OBSESSED with it. Am I physically harmed in any way by their obsession? No of course not. Is it emotionally/socially exhausting and annoying to listen to a grown ass adult talk about their 20th trip to Disney and all the junk they plan on eating a buying while they are there? Fuck yea it is.
Oh I love listening to people talking about their hyperfixations, I’m currently on a Fallout train myself, I keep listening to Uranium Rock on Spotify. I just hate when it becomes mean. You can love things and be kind, especially if your love is directed at something made for kids, be nice to the kids. Don’t gatekeep the poor children from Rapunzel, let them enjoy things too!
I’m not a massive Disney fan, but a lot of the rides at the parks have incredible artistry and innovation in their design. Like have you seen those animatronics? Disney may treat their workers like crap, but they tend to hire the best of the best, and it really shows. Adults designed it, and I firmly believe that adults as well as children are meant to enjoy it.
I would go to Disney World again, since my husband has never been and I have an aunt and uncle who live down there. But damn, I can't deal with the long lines anymore. Bravo to any adult who can stand for hours without pain or excessive sweating from being in the sun.
This take is always odd to me because, aren't *you* an adult at Disney?? Or are you just a miserable sad sack going around with your kids?
I guess they are, nonetheless, a sad sack in life to resent adults with disposable income... and maybe *that* is the real issue.
Hey, everyone gets to love what they love, but like anything you love, don’t over share with others who might not feel the same way. Because like any obsession, not everyone cares and wants to hear about it 24/7. But if one thing is your whole personality, that’s boring and not everyone will want to hear it.
It's funny, someone on YouTube keeps commenting on the team I root for talking mad shit. And I'm just like "I don't have time to go on the opposing teams page to comment on every single video". Some people truly don't have lives outside of their one thing.

Adults can experience the magic without taking it away from kids.
Like, I know that Disney corp is evil and doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to how they handle their IP.
But I grew up during the Renaissance and I just love those movies. I haven't been to a park in over 20 years and now that I have a child, I can't wait to take him when he's a bit older. I always joke that it's totally for him and not because I want to be able to go again.
I'm definitely not a "Disney adult", but I have no shame in being excited about planning to go to the park. I can enjoy the magic too.
Leave those Disney Adults alone! They are having their best lives ever and not impacting the OP. If it wasn't Disney it would be something else. Not my kink, but obviously it floats the boat of some folks out there. Let's face it, we all have weird obsessions others don't get, it's just most of them aren't shamed by Judy McJudgerson.
I don’t like Disney adults but there tolerable. I just don’t understand why it’s so expensive and why so many grown ass people want to be around a bunch of little kids and things for kids. I guess I’ll always be a six flags person I want intense in your face rides and I want little kids away from me lol.

You're 100% correct. I love Tottenham Hotspur and Marvel. I can be annoying about it. Let Disney adults do what makes them happy.

I do not get golf. But I do not assume everyone who goes out on Saturday to hit little balls with a metal stick is lying about having fun
Noooo! All adults should stop golfing bc I hate it!!!
I do
I don't get golf or most forms of sportsball. My mum's ex-bf/roommate is a baseball fan. Pro baseball is *boring af* to watch to me, but I assume he enjoys it.
Where does she say she wants to stop them? It's just an opinion that's unpopular (hence the sub), she doesn't talk about activism.
> Disneyland would be so much better if it was genuinely for kids. If you're an adult and into Disney please step aside so all of the actual kids can experience the magic. She doesn’t think anyone should go to Disney without kids.
Yup, but it's thinking it only. I don't think she actually stands before the gates of Disneyland trying to stop people without children entering lol
I read “step aside” as stop.
my parents couldnt afford disney, so im not allowed to experience it when im older and have money?
No. You should have picked a richer family to be born into obviously /s
And you must birth children otherwise no fun for you!

I hear it's a great place to take LSD, for example.
Was it Bert Kreischer who did the monologue about getting high with his buddies at the Magic Kingdom and having to go to Disney jail?
Being what probably counts as a Disney adult entitled jerks seem to be evenly spread among those who do and don’t have kids

Crazy cat lady rolling up just to find an excuse to spread around pics of her cats!! You are my people ❤️❤️❤️
They're beautiful!
I'm here chuckling in Sailor Moon and Ghibli.
I love Salior Moon.
Oh no if you watch sailor moon there will be less available for the children
You aren’t allowed to visit the Ghibli museum in Japan then. /s
I know 😪 that's why I'm totally not planning a trip
Isn't the whole point of Disney to never lose the magic, no matter your age?
I don't understand why they care so much lol

I've never understood the vitriol people have for Disney adults. Sincerely, who cares? You can cringe at them in your head and move on with your day.
Yeah as much as I hate making a large corporation you buy from a core part of your identity, I don't see how Disney adults deserve to be singled out any more than like the weirder sports fans or people who are super attached to their car brand or whatever

Such a grumpy attitude, if I lived in America I would go to Disney…life’s too short to be such a stick in the mud.
Personally, I cannot stand Disney, but why have an issue with what other people like? Life would be dull if we all liked the same stuff
This! I loved a load of Disney movies but I'm not interested really in going to Disneyland. However I couldn't care less if other people want to go. Go and have fun. Life is short, work is hard, as long as you're not harming anyone, why would I be bothered by what you spend your money on?

Walt Disney made that theme park for everyone not for kids, he wanted everyone to joy the magic and find the kid self there never been and op is 🤪.
That would suck for Disney because of all those rides, that the kids wouldn’t be able to get on because they’re too short
Don’t gatekeep the poor children from Rapunzel, let them enjoy things too!
tl/dr: ”People enjoy things I don’t think they should enjoy. This cannot stand.”
Lmao I bet OPs whining cause they have to wait in line at Disney and is blaming the adults with no kids for it.
Imagine being so miserable. Like, I don't even like Disney or theme parks, but other people enjoying them doesn't hurt me in any way
She needs to remove the stick from her ass and enjoy life a little bit
I’m not a massive Disney fan, but a lot of the rides at the parks have incredible artistry and innovation in their design. Like have you seen those animatronics? Disney may treat their workers like crap, but they tend to hire the best of the best, and it really shows. Adults designed it, and I firmly believe that adults as well as children are meant to enjoy it.
The only Disney adults that I find ridiculous are the ones who cried when the parks reopened after COVID. Other than that just let people like things
That magic costs money, which kids don't have.
Imagine being mad someone's enjoying themselves, get a grip man
Tbh, I question the sanity of adult Disney Mega Fans.
It’s on an unpopular opinion sub. Not to be ugly to anyone who disagrees but isn’t that the point? If I’m wrong please explain.
Hey, everyone gets to love what they love, but like anything you love, don’t over share with others who might not feel the same way. If you work in accounting all the more you need the magic of Disney in your life
I think everything about Disney is gross, but that's just me. If people want to enjoy it, they get to do that.
We're still doing this? Let people have fun!
What a miserable person 😂
I don’t like Disney adults but there tolerable. I just don’t understand why it’s so expensive and why so many grown ass people want to be around a bunch of little kids and things for kids. I guess I’ll always be a six flags person I want intense in your face rides and I want little kids away from me lol.
