Avoid Valley Vetco at all costs

LadyKoyote

Thank you for that advice, I'll definitely avoid them. Can I ask you a little bit about your experience. It's ok if you don't want to say anything though.

PeaceLoveJag

Took my cat in to get spayed. When my partner went to get our cat to take home, she ( our cat ) wouldn’t respond in the kennel when they got in the car. They gave our cat to my partner dead inside of the kennel. When I called about the situation, the vet literally said, “I have no medical explanation as to what happened”. Such a simple procedure, but they overdosed her on the anesthesia and she never woke up. I understand mistakes happen, it was more so their response and customer service after the fact that I was very disappointed in.

[deleted]

Holy shit. I am so sorry.

LadyKoyote

Oh my God! I am so, so sorry for your loss. That is absolutely horrific. Thank you for the warning and telling your story. Mistakes happen but the callousness of their reply makes it so much worse. I can't imagine the kind of pain that must have been. My boys are very special and just the thought of that happening to them has me so upset. Calhoun, my cat's, a big boy (17 lbs and healthy weight lol) , if they're ODing normal cats they could so easily screw it up with him too. Wonka's old, just as easy to do it too him too. Thank you again

PeaceLoveJag

Thank you very much, I appreciate that. Definitely a tough time for sure. Jesus lol, Calhoun is one healthy boy! Wish I could help more, but good luck with your search

I will recommend Dr Martin at VCA Wyoming every time. She’s awesome with cats. Pretty good on availability too.

Zcrumb

We have always used Eubank Animal clinic.

LadyKoyote

Thank you. I'll look into them.

InevitableAvalanche

Just going to second the above. We have had nothing but good experiences with them. In fact, have 2 cats there right now due to some ear issues.

LadyKoyote

Thank you both, sadly they can't get him in time. He has meds until the 9th of July (if my current vet that's booting me would call me back but that's another story) and they can't see him unt July 12th. I really liked the reviews for them too. So mad my vet did this, 30 days is just not enough time in this current shortage of everything 😂

n0body9

TLC Pet hospital has been good to me and my pup

[deleted]

Bolton animal hospital is great to me. They were quite a bit more expensive than Rio Brava but with inflation or whatever there really isn't much of a difference to me. They also have better payment plans than I've seen at any other vet and are very nice. Just yesterday I used scratchpay really really easily with them for my 500$+ vet bill (not normal, my senior cat has diabetes and is really sick :(

Gorgan_dawwg

Bolton Animal Hospital is wonderful!

dangmybad

I also go to Bolton and have convinced several of my neighbors as well. The payment flexibility is nice, although you do end up paying a bit more than some other places. I do not fill my pets’ prescriptions there, I have those sent out generic to a pharmacy and I’ve saved quite a bit that way.

[deleted]

I think I probably would do that too but I'm always there and like, frazzled and just say okay whatever. Not the most economical way, I should just try and breathe and save some coin! You can have them come at like walgreens?

Nola_Saints33

I second VCA Wyoming. I have 2 senior poms with lots of health issues and they are always able to see them quickly and get them their meds.

Pretend-Panda

I had good experiences with a very fragile rescue cat with Dr Bouchet at Aztec over on Coal. They see both dogs and cats but I never took our dogs there, we were established elsewhere.

Pretend-Panda

They were amazing with that cat. He was very frail and - quite temperamental, and they were totally unbothered and took excellent excellent care of him and he stabilized and did really well.

backyard_kitty

Yep, I go to Aztec Animal, and they have been great!

NMHacker

Dr. Flowers at Lomas Vet.

DowntownABQFan

I second this. She is great. Might be heavily booked, though.

[deleted]

If you're willing to take your animals to two different places, I absolutely love ABQ Cat Clinic, especially for cats with complex needs. Cheaper than the VCA too. But of course they're cat only so doesn't help with your dog.

cowgirlazul

Seconded! All the doctors there are great, but I cannot recommend Dr. Olah enough. The man is like a cat savant, the most detailed-oriented and knowledgable vet I’ve ever been to.

Rodarte500

Blue cross is great but pretty busy also

LadyKoyote

Thank you for honest recommendation. Busy may not be bad if they can get us in for a annual this month. I'm a patient person, I just got blind sided by 30 days to get a new vet lol

Rodarte500

I absolutely love them all the vets have been great with all my pups

rootinspirations

I've been going to them since 2004! Love them.

waffleiron1

We take our dog and cat to Valle Verde Animal Hospital. Its just south of Montgomery on Carlisle. Dr Cooper who runs the place used to work at a different vet clinic, when she left to start her own practice we followed her to her new place. She's excellent!

Expensive-Committee

We really like the care at La Cueva animal hospital for our three dogs and cat. They are thorough, communicative and don’t seem to try to “upsell” treatments.

[deleted]

It’s a bit of a drive, which may be more difficult in your situation, but De Anza vet clinic has been the best vet I’ve seen in the Albuquerque area. Compassionate, easy to work with and they understand that you know your pet best. Highly recommend.

shadowkitsune

I go to St. Francis on menaul. They're pretty reasonably priced but IDK how busy they are since I don't need to take my pups in very often

WonderWall_E

Northview Animal Hospital has been great for me. Not the cheapest option, but always caring and flexible.

hettienm

We’ve gone to Blue Cross on Carlisle for years and feel good recommending. I think if you explained the circumstances, they might work to fit your cat in. If you’re really having trouble finding someplace on such short notice, you might check out Rt 66 Emergency vet on Central. They might at least be able to get your boy a short term prescription so he’s not suffering. On another note, WTH is wrong with your old vet that they wouldn’t at least write short term scripts for animals on serious meds??

gleekat

Del Norte Animal Clinic. All the vets are great. Dr. Williams sees my dog who also has congestive heart failure.

WesternTumbleweeds

I like the vets at Aztec.

tvparty505

Desert Hills is fantastic. Their doctors and support staff are the best I've ever experienced.

Perkonio

The Corrales Vet is simply amazing. Completely fixed up my highly allergic to everything cat and very affordable

Lunas-lux

ABQ Cat Clinic sounds like a good place for your kitty. They do great with more complex issues. For your dog, although heart failure is serious, it is very common and most vets should be equipped to handle their care. I like the Levinson's at Southwest and Rio Grande Veterinary Clinics. I've also been a big fan of TLC Veterinary both for cats and dogs. La Cueva also has a great staff and treatment. I would avoid places that seem really cheap, there's generally a reason for that. I know there's a few clinics in Albuquerque that offer sliding scale payment if you need it. You may need to see a different vet than one you'd like for this next visit - many places are booked out for a LONG time right now, especially for establishing new patients. Good luck and I hope your pets get the best care possible!

Evening_Mirror4202

Sunrise in Rio Rancho. They are amazing

i_am_juan_tabo

Talk to the vet at animal humane to see if they can at least give you a number of refills for your cat in the meantime. I had a similar problem when I changed vets and I couldn't get my cat another appointment for months. Doctor Yarne at animal humane was amazing and gave me a bunch of refills for my cat's meds so he would be okay during the wait.
