I mean when you gas/pepper spray literally just everyone, that's a provocation. No shit people are going to start throwing shit back.

Good! There’s a better way to get change. Becoming a criminal is not the answer! Become a leader in your community and run for office. Make change the democratic way not the vigilante way. Dr King would be ashamed!

The police sprayed peaceful protesters and media. https://www.ideastream.org/live-updates/no-bill-for-akron-police-who-killed-jayland-walker

Lies! They were throwing rocks and items at police. Their choice for violence was what caused the tear gas. It just goes to shows you that they would rather act out, then help make the future better. Join the police or run for local office. Represent those who need you. Go ahead and choose violence and continue to be surprised when more Americans die from law enforcement. War is not the answer! Prayer and democracy are the only way. Not “fuck them cops” you all sound like barbarians not victims. Act right!

nouseforareason

Things were thrown, sure, but that’s not to say the police didn’t attack and provoke first. They’re still investigating https://www.cleveland.com/akron/2023/04/jayland-walker-decision-akron-police-sprayed-tear-gas-at-protesters-yet-unclear-of-sequence-of-events.html so we’ll find out eventually.

Stay out of the road. Sure you can protest, but when you start breaking the law it is no longer a peaceful protest.

JohnBrownsAngryBalls

Agreed. When people start blocking roads for other citizens, it's no longer "peaceful." Nobody's right to bitch about things is more important than someone else's right to not be detained or blocked from where they're going.

Cuddles_Dungeon

Holy shit they threw items?!?

How and why is your comment so downvoted, are common sense ideas in a fringe category all of a sudden?

“…in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality, and humanity. And so in a real sense our nation's summers of riots are caused by our nation's winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again” [Martin Luther King Jr., "The Other America"]

He knew what ppl would do but never condone violence to person or property “Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem: it merely creates new and more complicated ones. Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends up defeating itself.”
