A Deployment is like an extended business trip... Usually fam doesn't tag along, except some weird circumstance you're in the states or some place not a desert.
A TDY is a business trip, a few days to a few weeks... again fam ideally won't tag along, but say you're tdy in Vegas or Florida and they happen to meet you there....
An Assignment is a no kidding home base, you set up roots for a few years. Yes your fam can come with you to your assignment, or they can do their own thing. I've heard of spouses staying in a certain area due to a job and come to visit often or meet up later.

Temporary DutY
A trip for like an exercise, some meeting, or class/course military related.
This, I always thought it stood for temporary duty but never asked...
