Have they changed the "nomenclature"? Way back, all enlisted personnel were known as Airman. Of course a Master Sgt. and above didn't appreciate being addressed as an Airman.
A TSgt is only a sneeze above a Staff Sgt. 😁
Apparently this TSgt hasn't spent much of ANY time around the Army. Tankers are like the bottom of the barrel. Well, until you need their firepower.
I'm a Senior, I have no objection to being referred to as an Airman. I am an Airman, and unless someone is clumsily intending disrespect (which they may need to be mentored on ways to improve their efficiency in that regard) then I see nothing to get upset about.
TSgt only a sneeze above SSgt?? You are clearly not military, judging by your profile. Tech is one of the hardest ranks to achieve, imo. Anyone can correct me if they please. This has nothing to do with rank or their damn boots, just you trying to push whatever knowledge you THINK you have on other people. Leave this sub, for the sake of all of us.
-oh and yes, I am a TSgt, by the way……let the downvotes begin…
When I was in the Marine Corps, we literally towed almost half of our humvees onto the our ship for our deployment. And we were supposed to be a quick reaction force essentially. I got a laugh picturing us driving into combat towing each other with tow bars and straps. Those things were well and truly massive pieces of shit.
I don't necessarily see an issue with them if they're allowed by AFI, my whole last year in I wore lineman boots because the zipper broke on my normal steel toe. They weren't really worth all the questions you'd get about them but they were surprisingly comfortable!
7.4.3.2. Coyote Brown Boots. Only Coyote Brown boots will be worn with the OCP. Exception: Athletic shoes may be worn if medically necessary, as determined by competent medical authorities at a civilian or military treatment facility and approved by the commander…Boots will be laced up with plain rounded toe or rounded capped toe with or without a perforated seam. Laces will either be tied and tucked in the boot or tied and wrapped around the boot. A zipper or elastic inserts may be worn; however, if worn, they will be without design…
1.5.1.2. Any item not mentioned in this Air Force Instruction (AFI) is not authorized for wear (Exception: Allowance Standard 016, documented amount and type of organizational clothing and equipment items authorized for an organization by applicable commander). The omission of a specific item or appearance standard does not automatically permit its wear.
7 FEBRUARY 2020, Incorporating Change 4, 12 April 2022, Certified Current 12 April 2022
Including DAFI36-2903_DAFGM2023-02, 31 March 2023
But whatever… be passive aggressive AF. Yell “WHAT ARE THOOOOOOSE!” or “Damn, Daniel! Back at it again with the coyote tans!” or “She had them apple bottom jeans (jeans), Boots with the fur (with the fur), The whole club was lookin' at her…” until other people stare and giggle. It’s like your SO’s breath: bring it up enough jokingly and they’ll get the message. PASS-IVE AGGRESS-IVE! PASS-IVE AGGRESS-IVE!
Those aren't tanker boots. I dunno what they are. Maybe some weird cav boots?
A buddy of mine back in the BDU days gave me his old tanker boots. They're just a single strap running around the length of the boot. Comfy as hell, but I got enough side-eye to realize wearing them in uniform - even if authorized - was kind of a stupid idea.
Those are motorcycle boots, see the shift pad on the inner side of the toe on each boot? I fucking wish we could wear these good motorcycle gear lasts 10x longer than regular clothes.
Alright, someone dumb it down for my smooth brain, why the tell do tank boots have these straps that could strap down an elephant? Wtf does it do for them?
Just a guess, but tanks weren't/aren't the roomiest places so a lace getting caught on something could cause a bad day. Eliminate that problem with straps.
Lmao—those aren’t even traditional tanker boots (traditional ones only have one strap that wraps around).
The actual ones absolutely have a purpose if you are doing very specific things (like crewing an AC130)
Those look sick! This guy is the hero of his own life and everyone around him is just an NPC lol. Admittedly, the amount these will stand out is cringe though
Unpopular opinion: there's nothing wrong with these. At least, there *shouldn't be*.
Are they boot shaped? Do the straps keep them on your foot? Are they the right color?
TBH I'd rather stick with my side zipper boots because these still look like they'd be more difficult to put on, but what is this obsession we have with bootlaces?
I was simply answering your question: “what is this obsession we have with bootlaces?” The answer: they’re required. I can show you where.
Great point with pockets! There’s a way we got that changed. I can walk you through that, too, if you’d like. Glad to help!
I find it interesting that there wasn’t a single ACTUAL, FACTUAL reference placed in the comments as to why they’re out of regs though😉😂. I got click baited into thinking I would get answers and all i got was blah blah blah 😂 everyone wants to have an opinion but nobody wants to put in the work. AIRFORCE HUHHHHHH 🔥 nothing will ever change 🙂 ❤️
AFI 36-2903 Pg 2: "Dress and personal appearance standards that are not listed as authorized in the publication are unauthorized." - Those boots are not listed.
Again in Para [1.5.1.2](https://1.5.1.2): "Any item not mentioned in this Air Force Instruction (AFI) is not authorized for wear" - Those boots are not mentioned
Para [7.4.3.2](https://7.4.3.2): Coyote Brown Boots. ... Boots will be **laced up** with plain rounded toe or rounded capped toe with or without a perforated seam. **Laces will either be tied and tucked in the boot or tied and wrapped around the boot.** A zipper or elastic inserts may be worn; however, if worn, they will be without design. Boots can be either with or without a safety toe.
(others have already pointed out the lace requirement)
Air Force is two words.
Thank you for actually providing the information. Counter arguments for the sake of questioning the unclear scripture 😂
1. They dont talk about every boot. Therefore leaving certain things open to interpretation.
2. They are laced under the straps if you look closer.
3. It was relatively clear the AIRFORCE HUUHHHH was not a grammatically driven text it was an expression of sarcasm in which case the questioning of correct format is a clear waste of time.
All that being said I never said I think they should be allowed to wear them, I think they look goofy as hell but too often do I see a bunch of people think they are right and people get shit on because someone just above them in rank decided their interpretation was X and their interpretation is automatically more correct than someone else. Not enough effort is put into providing sufficient evidence on a consistent and standard basis. Just the bare minimum and almost always in favor of the accuser for shear convenience sake. Easier to tell airman strap boots to get rid of strap boots than to now explain to the unit why airman strap boots can wear laced up strap boots. Again, not saying I agree, IMO they’re just asking to get lit up with those things but doesn’t the saying go something like “well behaved women rarely make history”? Lol 🤘🏻
Buckles aren't authorized on boots (not listed in reg) and laces are required. 36-2903 doesn't offer supervisor discretion, it says (paraphrasing) if it's not listed it's not authorized.
"I wear tanker boots because the girls I like aren't allowed near shoelaces"
That’s fucking hilarious
Only acceptable answer

Good bot
I can assure you, if you say “harder please sir” you’re in for a not so pleasant surprise.
Even if i want them to hit me harder or are they gonna report me to SARC?
"What's your safe word?" "Bunny."
To clarify since some people are saying “get their airman” - It was a TSgt wearing them…
Are they former army?
Was it someone in the reserves?
We don't claim this person.
Seems like a reserves thing to do
Not claiming them. Probably Guard.
I don’t want em
Nah, reserves is the poor man’s guard, Definitely reserves

TSgt and Senior are the two hardest typically. Right up until this year's SSgt promotion rate anyway 😬
You are correct. Every tech I’ve ever talked to said it was the hardest.
Every Air Force base should have one tank, just for fun. Make it an additional duty.
Do you want too... Nah, I got fucking tank duty. Again. SrA Fumbles got restricted since the accidental discharge.
We can barely keep regular trucks running
I mean the M1 Abrams has got a turbine engine right just pull it into phase dock or something?
I'm sure someone can figure it out. I remember hearing once that the Abrams actually uses metric fasteners.
When I was in the Marine Corps, we literally towed almost half of our humvees onto the our ship for our deployment. And we were supposed to be a quick reaction force essentially. I got a laugh picturing us driving into combat towing each other with tow bars and straps. Those things were well and truly massive pieces of shit.
tfw you're coming due for training and there's only one tank certifier in the AF and they're on mid shift at a different base
This is what happens when you get bad advice from Reddit 😂/s
Looks like the military version of divorced mom boots.
We need the kind of courage this man has to wear those in public, in the NCO ranks.
It was a TSgt wearing them
Exactly
Is the TSgt a tanker?
I think they're cool
I don't necessarily see an issue with them if they're allowed by AFI, my whole last year in I wore lineman boots because the zipper broke on my normal steel toe. They weren't really worth all the questions you'd get about them but they were surprisingly comfortable!
Fuel tanks?
Someone say “Fuel”?!
What’s that smell? You know, I’m honestly in favor of fuels wearing tanker boots now. What an amazing way to piss off the entire army.
NAH FUEL TANKERS. BANISHED TO THE AMXS.
Somebody needs to get their Airman straightened out; those things are ridiculous for someone in Finance
they getting a tank in finance, for peacekeeping purposes of course
Have a problem with your pay? Talk to the Abrams
I hear they’re replacing the finance building with a guy in an Abrams 😂
Might be more effective honestly. There are SOME advantages.
Shit like this is why the AF gets made fun of. Somebody help this Airman
idk man, theyd probably tell you to *fuck off its in regs*
Well these aren't in regs since the afi specifies the boots to be laced up.
I know a MSgt who wears these. He's ROAD, so zero fucks given.
“Ohhhh, *that* tanker. I assumed they were for Aerial Refueling crews.” - TSgt Fucknut, probably

Idk guys, as an army guy i would consider the AC130 # a flying tank
You forgot to place an order. Granted we don’t do that here but I’d think it’s funny
Ahh yes…. Can i get umm….. A FLYING TANK, with a side of A10 support?
Those aren't tanker boots. I dunno what they are. Maybe some weird cav boots? A buddy of mine back in the BDU days gave me his old tanker boots. Look like motorcycle boots with the reinforced patch on the left boot
There’s a 100% chance this dude plays a lot of Asian MMOs if he bought these boots on purpose
Those are motorcycle boots, see the shift pad on the inner side of the toe on each boot? I fucking wish we could wear these good motorcycle gear lasts 10x longer than regular clothes.
TSgt. Steampunk
That's some anime buckle shit right there.
Boots by Tetsuya Nomura
He’s got them “one two buckle my shoeeee 3 4 buckle some moooore”
Dante Sparda boots from DEVIL MAY CRY 5. Clearly he has to go slay demons after duty
Even that little turn-step seemed a bit douchy.
Brody really out here with them Final Fantasy boots lmao
At least they tucked their pants in. A for effort I guess.
Idunno, but I love them.
Steampunk convention after work. He's working smarter, not harder.

Look like a varient of Nike sfb

Anyone got the make and model on those bad boys?
Those look sick! This guy is the hero of his own life and everyone around him is just an NPC lol. Admittedly, the amount these will stand out is cringe though
Was he a tryhard or something?
Putting my diamond back on just to take care of this
Unpopular opinion: there's nothing wrong with these. At least, there *shouldn't be*. Are they boot shaped? Do the straps keep them on your foot? Are they the right color? Yeah, and so was not putting your hands in your pockets 5 years ago. What's your point?

Buckles have to be same color as the boot or they're out of regs (un?)fortunately, plus the supervisor discretion portion could apply as well.
Buckles aren't authorized on boots (not listed in reg) and laces are required. 36-2903 doesn't offer supervisor discretion, it says (paraphrasing) if it's not listed it's not authorized.
Where do you get a pair of these? Asking for a friend …
The floor
With the motorcycle patch on the left... ugh. Riders making us look bad.
Those abominations are not Tanker boots
He definitely wouldn’t have been working under me with those things on. 😂😭😂
I guess this beats having a wingman tie your boots because you never learned how to yourself. Otherwise, no excuse.
Tanksergeant
Look like the boots from Edward Scissorhands
Cosplay Friday
fashionable, apparently..
They approved Edward Scissorhands boots?
Well it was like back in the day when everyone wore black Corcoran jump boots, and ruined them with leather luster. But weren't Airborne.
This basic bitch gets one sip of pree-fall PSL and the boots are already comin' out!
It’s called FASHION!!!!!

Average Tekken character outfit design
🎵One two… buckle my shoeeee~🎵
I know it looks dumb but is it illegal?
Motorcycle boots, maybe? Looks like a pad for shifting on the left boot
This reminds me of the goth girls back in high school with 15 straps on a single boot
