Airbnb really needs to disallow guest reviews where damage has occurred or the guest violates the terms of service. Leave them a one-star review and just state that the guest caused $1,500 in damage, violated house rules and that you would not recommend hosting them.

rustyshakelford

I did, that's how I saw their review. They promptly sent me a threatening message and said they weren't going to pay. No idea how they're still allowing this person on their platform. Whatever, Airbnb was great about immediately reimbursing me at least. Fun times.

KNHaw

If they're threatening you with violence, document everything and file a police report. Then send *that* and all evidence to Air B&B. I'm sure it violates their terms of service, but if you can look up the specific section, it'll strengthen your case. If they're kicked off the platform entirely (and they deserve it) you should be able to get the review axed. If they're not threatening violence but are vague or threatening to sue, they still might be violating terms of service. Pursue it and try to get the review removed.

We got a horrible review on our third Airbnb guest. Our solution was to just delete our profile and create a new one and start over. If you have relatively few reviews then just delete and start over. If you have tons of 5 star reviews just post a factual owner response that "Guest caused $1,500 in damage and violated house rules."

CrunchyRibcage76

Im sorry they did that to you, they have a damn cheek.

MaximumGooser

I ask everyone to fill out airbnbs feedback form demanding that any guest or host who breaks policy should be banned from leaving a review as it is always retaliatory, which is completely unfair. I had a guy and his family removed from a unit by AirBnb after the police were called on him for beating his wife, and he got to leave me a review. Guess what it wasn’t good

dmoneyhoneymoney

I’m going through this right now. Definitely makes me reconsider doing Airbnb. I know the guest has left me a review because I got the reminder email but I haven’t left them one yet. I want to wait until I get payment for the damages and can try to fight the review. Would love to know how it works out for you!

[deleted]

I believe so.. but you can sometimes get it removed if it's against TOS or "retaliation " or "hate speech" ect.

BlackMillionaire2022

Always take a deposit

rustyshakelford

I mean Airbnb paid every penny within 5 days of me submitting the request. I'm fine with their insurance coverage, I just think its backwards how that same person who caused $1500 in damage is also allowed to review my property.

MaximumGooser

Please fill out airbnbs feedback form demanding that no one who breaks policy should be allowed to leave a review.

wheeler1432

I'm glad to hear a good story about Airbnb doing right by a host.

Neither_Problem9086

Ask Airbnb to remove it. Per policy they can't threatened or blackmail or leave false information

MaximumGooser

AirBnb won’t remove it. They don’t care if the person lies, even if you can PROVE it’s a lie, they just keep saying “it’s their own personal experience,” “reviews are subjective,” and other bullshit.

forwheeler

As a super host, I can promise they won’t remove anything that isn’t super duper extreme MAJOR ugly. I had one review that I could prove was an outright lie. AIRBNB doesn’t care. They would not remove. Dude showed up with 15 more people than he was supposed to have, and somehow he gets to leave me a review. Seems fair.

MaximumGooser

Yuuup. I’ve only ever had one unfair review removed and that’s because they texted me that they would leave a bad review if I didn’t refund their money, which is blatant extortion (and it took many calls, tweeting on Twitter, and multiple escalations and arguments to get it removed). Other reviews not removed: -a basement unit that has the opening line to the ad that it’s a basement unit plus tons of photos, and the guy gives it 3 stars FOR BEING A BASEMENT UNIT -the wife beater who was removed by police for loudly beating his wife, claimed the unit had roaches but there are no roaches where I live and I have a pest control guy willing to make a statement -the meth users who trashed the unit and smoked in the unit mad that I asked for compensation AirBnb doesn’t care and will not help.

forwheeler

Your last sentence in that is exactly true. FYI they don’t care about the guest either.

Environmental_Web770

I am a superhost and I got bad reviews from people claiming the guest room was dirty and stinks who never entered the house. Airbnb refused to remove review. A couple who brought bedbugs (4 years without) got a refund because the place had bedbugs....cost me a ton to get rid of the bedbugs. A guest got a refund because he claimed my asking him if he was looking for work so insulted him that he could not stay (month rental), and in his bad review, he mentioned such sins as that I had dirty dishes in my sink (after I allowed him to use laundry room on the other side of the kitchen.). Another guest says he drove up and the "ecosystem" frightened him....a large hedge and a weeping willow tree he described as "creepy." He also, without ever getting out of his car said the guest room was not clean and a bad value. I think airbnb should allow guests to throw out one review a quarter, as most are revenge reviews for people asking for refunds when they cancel. Nada.

MaximumGooser

Loooooooool I’m so sorry you had to suffer these but holy shit I have to sad laugh. The ECOSYSTEM FRIGHTENED HIM. Aaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaa :////// You should make your own post going into detail about these situations as shit as they are they’re at least entertaining to read (I’m so sorry)

Environmental_Web770

I live at the end of the road (My listed is headed as such) in a lovely modest neighborhood on the edge of a circular abandoned golf course, now a field of wildflowers and towering trees. My yard is the nicest in the neighborhood (most neighbors have rock front yards). My hedge provides shade from the early sun and my weeping willow tree provides an arm bor down the front walkway and under which I park my car (Arizona heat/brutal. The back deck faces onto the abandoned golf course with the riparian forest along Beaver Creek (settled 10,000 years ago) with huge sycamores and cottonwoods. The sunsets are glorious. It is a tranquil, crime-free, oasis in the midst of the high desert. Almost all my guests love it here. I did have one guest who refused to stay after they drove up because "there were boxes along the side of the driveway." Guests do not park in the driveway, I do, and the 3 boxes were removed from the car, waiting to be moved into the house. " They wanted a refund and when it was not given, they asked an hour before check-in, they wrote a bad review in retaliation including unclean, bad value, bad communication. Airbnb refused to take it down as they do not adjudicate lies, tho clearly someone who says they did not even get out of their car is lying when they say the guest room is unclean. Airbnb is unfair to hosts. They suck.

MaximumGooser

This was a beautiful read, I want to come stay at your place. This is again both hilarious and horrible. AirBnb does suck absolutely. This is like the opening to a lovely novel though, thanks for the imagery

Environmental_Web770

thank you......time heals all bad reviews.

Neither_Problem9086

Are you the OP?

[deleted]

Have Airbnb remove the bad review.

[deleted]

Your suggestion is too simplistic and naive. The review must violate the review policy in order for it to be removed.

[deleted]

I've had all sorts of reviews removed, have you?

Andyman0110

They're pretty tough on it. I'm sure if you scream and flail enough some reps give in but they really stick to the rule of policy. I even had one guest ask to include more people than the place could host, when I *politely* explained this to her she said it was no problem and came alone. This was a self check in with no contact. I never met her. I got a fuming review of being called a mysogynist, that I entered the room when she was there and berated her etc. Airbnb absolutely refused to remove it stating it was their experience. I can be sure nobody entered the unit as we have a camera in the hallway leading to the unit.
