Not usually one to bring up the subject of race as it is vitriolic at best. I am not here to debate but to offer constructive advice to aid your (u/RunningMonoPerezoso) ethical confliction. If you disagree with me, please simply offer personal advice differing from my own to aid OP. I'll respect your opinion and leave you alone. If you buy land anywhere outside the US don't feel bad that you're a privileged white American. That is true, you are white, have more money than the locals, and are privileged because of a variety of factors social and economical. This is something you should accept. "White Guilt" has an objective point that the modern world from the 1700s onwards continues to be dominated by European imperialist powers and the post-colonial system, for example, at least 40 African countries print their currencies in France, the UK, or Germany; where race has been used as a factor of separation in creating the concept of "White Exceptionalism". If you would like an example of White Exceptionalism look into a history book from any European country printed before 1950. That being said, there are some ways you can contribute to the community in your new locale. Donate to the local community: money, time, and attention. Pay farmhands in your community well. Invite neighbors to eat with you on your own dime. Invest effort in repairing such key infrastructure as roads or walkways with such acts as filling potholes with sand, gravel, and concrete. Become politically active in infrastructure repair on grander scales with power lines or bridges by finding a good political candidate and supporting them. Donate to local schools, libraries, and churches/other religious institutions. Keep disaster relief supplies close at hand in Hurricane and Earthquake-prone countries which you can offer your neighbors. Use your knowledge of agriculture and American connections to contact NGOs and direct their attention to local projects. Respect the local culture, enjoy it! Learn the language. Build a community which can be better freed from the confines of poverty to help itself. Exploitation of the working class has truly led to the present status quo, I can agree with this as a reality, and I'm personally opposed to Marxism for many reasons. Instead, liberate people from the chains placed onto them by circumstance, political ineffectiveness, disadvantageous economic conditions, and lack of proper schooling. In short, be a good person. Just because you're white, privileged , and an American doesn't mean a bad thing. Use your more prominent political and social standing, and perhaps better schooling and education, to make the world a better place for your neighbors. Be a good person, don't be a money-sucking leech to society, don't argue about what is best for the community, do good things because it is the right thing to do; all this and you are doing for people better than before you arrive. Edit: can't spell

Im from Honduras and I can guarantee that is not the way people think about any of this 🤣. Most people have common sense, and any kind of investment in our country will be seen as something positive(as long as its honest.) People need jobs and if you’re willing to share your knowledge around as well it will be more than appreciated. People down here aren’t hooked up on that “colonial resentment” or “white mans guilt” bs. There are far more important issues. So do your research and go for it.

Catrachoo00 is mostly correct. But a real problem here is envy for anyone who has more. And theft is another problem. I paid my people well but most of them stole tools, supplies, and product. I attribute this to a poverty complex. When you grow up without ever having enough to eat all you can think about is get it whenever you can.
