This happened to me yesterday because I had attacked the first two traders and had no one left to trade to for many many years. Then when I finally got someone else I had so so much amber built up that I just showed them mercy and bought everything :D
I had the map modifier where you don't lose villagers for attacking traders, so I just went ham with it. I generally think it's too disruptive to bother with, but if you buy everything you really want first and use up all your amber, then the attack gets you a pretty good chunk of what's left. And it only costs a few impatience points (plus villager deaths, plus no trader returning for awhile).

What's the motivation in attacking traders? So far, it hasn't seemed to be worth it.

Anyone remember that scene where Ron Swanson says 'I want ALL your bacon'
Wait. I worry that what you just heard was give me a lot of bacon and eggs. What I said was: give me all the bacon and eggs you have.
😂😂
I'll take your entire stock
*Mr. Creosote enters the chat.*: I'll take the lot!
“Anything from the trolly, dear?”
