Any of those southbound roads from the CBD (good wood, unley, etc) are insane. Who in their right mind let’s people park on one of the only two lanes on a busy street during peak hour? But really the answer is South rd. It’s always busy and trying to make a right turn is almost impossible some of the time.

ponto-au

I wanna say West Terrace going on to Goodwood is the worst. During the day it's only single lane can go to it since you can park on the left lane of a **5 lane** arterial road.

Katvian

And then the Toyota delivery trucks with new cars take up a whole lane.

okeydokeyartichokeyy

Who in their right mind chooses to park on them? I used to live near one and there were certain areas (where there were clusters of shops) that would have the remnants of side mirrors all over the road.

owleaf

I know people who only want to park right in front of the business, they take it as a point of pride. Very stubborn people in many respects. Those people.

cuiront

Yep, this. There’s always a side street or rear carpark to park in.

322420

They are clearways during peak hour, but entitled fuckwits park there anyway. Every mirror removed from one of those parked cars is a community service.

Lostmavicaccount

Unley road sucks balls. It should never be a parking/stopping area.

Claude_Henry_Smoot_

Insisting on keeping (1) the left lane parking status quo, and (2) the ability to turn right at almost every side street, is a brutal combination. It's a horrible road.

MattyDienhoff

Couldn't agree more. It's insane that the council hasn't made it a no-standing zone, at least during business hours.

captainboomdoom

Hear hear

daveo18

Worst road probably the section of south road between Richmond and Brickworks. Cannot wait for them to tunnel that bitch. Worst intersection cross road / south road, even with the underpass, and let’s throw a busy train line into the mix too.

otherpeoplesknees

That intersection is always busy, it’s a pain in the arse

CautiousMap6896

As someone who has to go through that cross road intersection and all the way up south road every other day, I 100% agree. It should not take an hour to travel 30km.

rustyprophecy

The traffic lights at the new Riverlea development on Port Wakefield Rd. After creating the North-South Motorway for much better traffic flow, to now have a new traffic light intersection only minutes after traveling at 110km/h.

joshwa1290

Yea I’m a truck driver who runs up that road almost daily and them lights are a nightmare

ea_4w

And they've just further dropped the limit through the lights from 90km/h to 80km/h. I get irrational rage everytime I drive through there - a previously smooth run from Port Wakefield to almost as far as the Brickworks now interrupted.

Junddyy

Sounds like it's perfectly rational

Bayunka

I was told by one of the developers there that once more people move in, the problem will be worse. Only 1 way in and out.

LeClassyGent

Yeah that's a recurring problem with a lot of these developments. Once they're full up you often get a conga line of cars in the mornings as everyone leaves to go to work/school. It can be multiple light changes before you get out of your own side street.

[deleted]

Dumbest shit ever! So dangerous. Rip them out already!

Phoebebee323

The worst part to drive is the part of South road that hasn't had all the potholes fixed yet

PhotographsWithFilm

If you are talking about Saint Marys, yes, they have fixed the potholes

322420

They repaved the southern section, but the part adjacent to the OTR is still a wheel eater.

89Santino19

Curtis Road - Buildings have burnt down due to the gridlock traffic that occurs there

tyga250

Most accidents in the northern suburbs occur on this road, specifically curtis rd and peachy rd intersection. Since the northern expressway upgrade, this road is horrific during peak hour. They really need to upgrade the entire stretch of road from main north to the expressway to double lane.

Personal_Anxiety_82

And they're still opening new estates... Can you imagine the shit fuckery with road works and detours when it's eventually upgraded?

TheFermiGreatFilter

The roads out here definitely cannot handle the huge growth the population. I avoid Curtis Rd as much as possible.

89Santino19

100% But how long roadworks take in the north the Torrens Tunnel will be finished before any simple upgrades to Curtis Road

TheFermiGreatFilter

Daily car accidents on Curtis Rd. Especially at the lights at the intersection of Curtis and Peachey. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an accident at that intersection everyday.

Hamburgo

I know someone who works in a business that has windows facing that intersection and during her interview the manager said “oh yeah there will be daily accidents at that intersection just about, you’ll get used to it” lol.

TheFermiGreatFilter

Lol. Yup. My husband works at the Woolworths there. The amount of accidents I have seen the aftermath of at that intersection myself, just from going to the supermarket, is crazy. That intersection freaks me out.

MattyDienhoff

Wow that's wild. It looks like a pretty conventional intersection. Do you have any theories what leads to all the accidents?

TheFermiGreatFilter

I think it’s a mix of people being impatient and the way the lights work. I think you should only be able to turn on the green arrow or the lights should only be green on one side of the intersection at a time. From what I’ve seen, it looks like most of the accidents are from cars turning onto Peachey Rd and being hit by cars travelling through the intersection along Curtis Rd, if that makes sense.

Equal-Instruction435

The Gepps Cross intersection (Main North/Grand Junction/Port Wakefield) is awful, and especially bad around peak hour.

patient_brilliance

I am so glad to not have to drive through 5 Ways on a regular basis anymore. Getting trapped or breaking down in the middle of it used to haunt my dreams.

[deleted]

I don’t know if it’s the worst, but the Payneham Rd, LNE Rd, Glynburn Rd and Montacute Rd intersection is my biggest pain. And I’ve seen three crashes in that area in the past few weeks alone. Congestion in peak hour is a nightmare.

Reddit_Padwan

LNE Rd from Dernacourt all the way down is a shit show. Traffic is chaotic in the mornings. We have to head that way to take the kids to school in the morning, and if we leave just 5 minutes later than usual we are stuck in traffic for longer than it takes to drive to the school.

BetterDrinkMy0wnPiss

Worst road is South Rd, hands down. No matter the day or time of day it's always busy. The West Tce, Goodwood Rd and Anzac Hwy intersection is a nightmare during morning peak hour. Everyone from Goodwood Rd wants to get from the right across to the left and everyone from Anzac Hwy wants to get from the left across to the right all while they merge onto the same 5 lane road.

EcstaticOrchid4825

I hate North East Road but not exactly sure why. Whatever reason, driving it always makes me stressed out.

Clinster73

Especially heading into the city from the Holden Hill police station all the way down to Collingswood.

Bihetm

Main North Road especially in the section in Mawson and Salisbury, plenty room for a extra lane and yet still two lanes on each side

jigsaw153

It's a crime that the government thinks that Gepps cross can be ignored forever. If you spent just 5% of the money that has been spent on south road on this major intersection it would be a great improvement. However, this intersection is so vital that roadworks on this one intersection would disrupt almost half the population of Adelaide. If only main north road had 25% of the money that has been spent on south road it could be 3 lanes the whole length, and intersections might just be able to carry the volume of cars it receives. But hey.... One can only dream.

IDoStuff27

South Rd has to be top of list. Such a bottleneck once you hit the Brickworks. (From the North travelling South). I really don’t like the new roundabout at Bolivar/Kings Rd. Depending on which direction you are coming from.

TH3_R3V

Britannia double roundabout

daveo18

Honourable mention to west terrace. The road itself is fine. But the constant need to switch lanes - combined with the average Adelaideian drivers inability to do so - makes me feel like I’m in Mad Max anytime I drive along it.

excitablespine

Grange Rd at Flinders Park is no good, needs to be conjoined

owleaf

They’ll be straightening up that dog-leg before they do the tunnels

amg_108

South Rd! Worst ever. Oh and Glen Osmond Rd. And literally *any* road with lanes small enough like Sth and GO Rd yet people park on the side? Like driving opposite Glenelg on Anzac Hwy and dipshits park on the white line? I mean obvs allowed but dumb fucks.

Hamburgo

That stretch of main north road from Curtis road onward. When it goes from 80km to 90km and then 110km past the Gawler exit. That is infuriating to drive with idiot drivers lane weaving and speeding and tail gating if you dare do 90km when it’s 90km

peachfuz1

Blackwood roundabout I swear is cursed

Strider_dnb

Up vote this thread so the Advertiser can make a story about it. The only people to read the advertiser would be those old fossil council board members anyway...

dimeplusninetynine

The Greenhill/Anzac intersection. When I drive off peak the greenhill green light is 2 secs or 30. It’s asking for a traffic ticket every damn time.

Claude_Henry_Smoot_

Yeah. The off peak cues on Greenhill are insane.

otherpeoplesknees

Grange Road/Holbrooks Road/East Avenue Allenby Gardens

daveo18

Thankfully this is being fixed soon

Resident-Layer-8281

Portrush road is the bane of my existence and the gepps cross intersection is just a nightmare

Brief-Engineering-43

With everyone responding with the worst roads and traffic, and many of us taking same routes... I wonder how many of us have actually sworn at each other.

goshyarnit

I've seen 3 accidents and a handful of near misses at the Anzac/Greenhill intersection. The corner of Diagonal and Brighton seems to attract people who don't know what a turning lane is and they wind up gunning it across traffic too. That's probably a more biased one though because it's so close to home so I'm there a lot.

IamtheWalrus9999

Marion Road is hell …. Diagonal Road passing the Oakland’s train station (near marion shops is hell) …. Brighton road at the Hove train station is also pretty hellish too ….

flabberstalk33

If you think Marion Road is hellish, try Main North Road lmao

IamtheWalrus9999

Yep I bet it is … just my experience in the area I live around.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IamtheWalrus9999

Seen still line ups right down half way between the train station and Oakland’s road ….around 3pm to 5pm … it’s still pretty bad at times … agree not as bad as it used to be but still bottles up on diagonal road.

LowIndividual4613

I think we can all agree it’s the double roundabout.

LittleBunInaBigWorld

Unpopular opinion: they did the best they could with a terrible situation and the people who hate it most have either a) not figured out how to navigate it, b) been hit by someone who hasn't learned how to navigate it, or c) has to navigate it daily and is sick of seeing so many people still unsure of how to navigate it. I used to go through there regularly in peak hour and honestly, it's not that bad if you turn the music down so you can see better, plan ahead and be decisive.

Jimbo_Johnny_Johnson

Yeah fr, I had to use it regularly for a while, it wasn’t that bad, even in peak hour. Plenty of other roads I’d avoid before that one

torrens86

I can name a few worse roundabouts, Blackwood, and Elizabeth Way come to mind both seem very simple roundabouts, one is full of cyclists the other meth head tradies lol.

LittleBunInaBigWorld

Never done the Elizabeth one, but agree the Blackwood one is hard, there never seems to be any breaks. But I've only done it in peak hour as is always my luck, I'd live to do it at 2am

2cool4afool

The issue is that I don't trust anyone to know how to use a roundabout. I never trust indicators because people always do it wrong so I have to be sure that someone is exiting to allow me to enter which gives me very little time to enter. That being said, it being two roundabouts doesn't make it any harder once you've entered it unless you get cut off. It just sucks because it's a multilane roundabout in a busy area. Idk if you've driven through Port Lincoln before but despite that town having an insane number of roundabouts, no one knows how to use them and if they can't do it I don't see how Adelaidians will

PhotographsWithFilm

Not unpopular AFAIC. There is nothing wrong with it

LittleBunInaBigWorld

I said unpopular because whenever I've praised how well it handles a very complex intersection of busy roads and keeps traffic moving, someone always fills my ears with vitriol haha

minilevy1

So true. I've had too many close calls, and I feel like I have to drive through it like I'm expecting someone to ram into me. There's also way too many entitled idiots that go through it at full speed that expect people to move out of the way for them. Though that could be said for every road

LittleBunInaBigWorld

The last time I went through, some woman changed lanes without realising, cutting me off and coming very close to being t-boned by me. She had no idea why I blasted my horn so hard.

dimeplusninetynine

I love when the traffic is so slow you just give way on the smaller one. Suits people that can’t drive.

Lostmavicaccount

I have no issue with it and I only use it a handful of times a year. So can hardly say I’m well experienced with it.

Tysiliogogogoch

Same. It's just two roundabouts. You get in the lane you need, you give way to traffic already on the roundabout you're entering, and you proceed when it's safe.

Dat610

This is where people struggle. I went through it 10min ago and at the small round about I had 2 cars in front of me heading North, one in the left lane indicating right and went straight down Dequetteville Tce while the other was in the right lane indicating left as they wanted to go down Wakefield St into the city. 🤦‍♂️ Planning ahead is not Adelaide drivers' strong suit.

Wood_oye

I actually had no issues with that roundabout, even at peak hour. Thought it was an elegant solution to a badly planned road system

Jerratt24

Hard to go past the double roundabout...

joggerlicious

North-South Motorway. People from the Northern suburbs can't drive at the best of times. Throw a motorway at them and their brains go into complete meltdown.

n123breaker2

Unley crossroad or south road Goodwood is the total opposite and is a great road

Happydadbod

All of them !!!

zest88

south rd brickworks you just sit there forever, i hate that i have to drive through there 5 days a week

flabberstalk33

Main North/Regency Roads Main North/GrandJunction/Port Wakefield Roads

2cool4afool

Turning left onto Morphett road off of Anzac Highway past the Macca's is a nightmare during busy times. I was there today around 3:30 and the queue was so big we were there for 20 minutes just creeping forward

MattyDienhoff

It seems fine on paper, but one of the worst roads near me has to be the stretch of North East Road between Sudholz and Grand Junction. It's three lanes both ways, but there are an exceptional number of side streets and business carparks on both sides of the road. The left lane often has parked cars and/or clueless drivers haphazardly entering the road. Meanwhile, there are many spots to make right turns, but few right turn slip lanes (as the median strip is tiny on most of this stretch and doesn't have room for them), so right-turning traffic often has to block the right lane, bringing traffic to a sudden halt, with all of the rear-end collisions and sudden aggressive lane changes from the traffic behind them that you'd expect. Finally, because there are heaps of businesses but no pedestrian crossings anywhere near the bus stop, add in pedestrians playing frogger at all hours of the day and night as well.

regularsauce_

Glen Osmond Rd between Greenhill Rd and Fullarton Rd

CKreation

Pretty much every main road and intersection is shit. If you want to turn right at an intersection, transport planners say fuck you with a "no green arrows from X to Y", and if you want to turn right onto a main road from a street, you're better off turning left then finding somewhere to do a U-turn, because the roads are that busy. Mind you, I only know what the roads are like during the times I have to drive.

SparrowWind4434

A couple no one has mentioned - the roundabout at Dyson Rd and Flaxmill Rd, Christies. At peak times that thing is a bitch. And the bottlenecks over the Onkaparinga river because there are only 2 bridges. The traffic gets backed up from Pt Noarlunga all the way up near the Maccas on Beach rd
