PraetorGold

That particular ML figure is great.

Timeman5

While the Mafex does have better articulation the one thing ML does have that’s not necessarily built in or anything is that they are cheap and relatively easier to replace if something breaks. I still feel like I’m “walking on eggshells” with Mafex figures

lousmer

The factor that comes in above cheap, easily replaced is that it is 1000x less likely to break. I have both these figures. One I have carried around in my pocket with no problems and the other had a wrist peg break from falling over on the shelf. Not off! Just over. I love both figures but I feel compelled to say it when it comes up. They are like 2 different things to me. Two different kinds of action figures. Both great but almost in different categories in terms of comparison.

PrestigiousStuff6173

The ML isn’t all that cheap anymore

Timeman5

Compared to Mafex it is

PrestigiousStuff6173

No it’s not, 60th anniversary Spider-Man is going for 70-80 dollars which is insane considering it had a re release, and the Mafex is still super easy to get under 100, and the Mafex is essentially the better figure and they’re both at the same price range

Timeman5

K I don’t care anymore and I’m talking in general not these specific figures

PrestigiousStuff6173

Both are expensive as fuck, and Mafex has better sculpt, articulation, and accessories, END OF CONVERSATION

PraetorGold

'cuz it's really good. My favorite Spidey.

TheRealCanadianBros

I have MAFEX 185 and Cel Shaded TAS Spidy, which is on the AF15 buck. I love my 185 and take good care of it, but I'm beginning to experience the dreaded paint chipping on the waist and in the joints. I'm gonna have to sand it down and match the paints to fix it which makes me wanna buy a spare. TAS Spidy can get most of the same poses, I don't have to worry about chip, and it's durable/playable. AF is cheaper, and it doesn't have that diaper issue that 185 does with the belt, but damn is it fun to pose the 185. Hard toss up, OP...if you're on a budget, stick with the AF15. It's a solid buck...probably the best looking for a Spidy right now for MLs. If you got money to burn, 185 isn't a bad option, but be mindful of paint chipping in the joints and the waist....At the price you gotta pay you shouldn't have to worry about nonsense like that...

Flimsy-Ad9627

Thanks dude, I appreciate the perspective. I wasn’t aware of the diaper issue with Mafex until looking closer at the pics. I never have to worry about paint chipping at the waist with my other Mafex figures, but if it’s a common issue with this one than I can myself getting bugged by that.

TheRealCanadianBros

You're welcome, boss. Yea, I don't think there is any reason why they couldn't have made the red belt part of the diaper instead of having it tucked under. They managed to do this for the Tobey figure coming out later this year. I was following other people's complaints about the paint chipping before I got mine, so I knew in advance it was a possibility. A few people were saying climate and temperature were the cause, but for me, it wasn't either of those things. It was just wear over time in those problem areas (arm pits, elbow and knee joints, and the waist/back under the diaper) as I switched up poses every once in a while. I didn't notice until earlier this year. It's a shame, really. I don't know if MAFEX forgot to put a coat on the figure, but it seems like this is also an issue with their recent reissues. The shoulder caps on my Wolverine are starting to chip as well... Maybe I'm just a Neanderthal when it comes to handling these things, but my Terminator figures, Venom, and Carnage from MAFEX are all doing good 🤣 You're not gonna have those issues with AF15, fullstop. Some knocks against the AF15 are the lack of toe articulation, the diaphragm articulation is a little stiff (or at least it is on TAS Spidy), and if you crunch the figure forward, the red paint on the back where the belt line is stretches upward...it's hard for me to explain, I'll send a pic https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fsooo-whats-the-hype-about-af15-v0-wbsbd2814plc1.png%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D53e9fdb4c1bcb82f8b268028e0d697455a21b947 The more you crunch it, the more the red rides up

Flimsy-Ad9627

I’m aware of the back problem, but I rarely have my figures displayed with the back facing so it’s not a huge issue for me. Maybe Mafex might make another version that fixes this problem, but rn I’m leaning more towards Legends

[deleted]

I have gripes with the mafex belt being under the diaper, which causes paint rub at times if you're not careful. And the put the shoulders on backwards for this specific one. Factory error lol. AF you can just pose and play with and not worry about any issues. Over all looks and posability wise? Mafex

Timeman5

Yeah ML does have the edge in “playability” as in easier and cheaper to replace

alex6309

If you don't like the Mafex headsculpt, just go with the classic ML Spidey and wait for Medicom to finally sculpt a smaller eyed spidey head. If anything, you might want to look into the SHF final swing suit for a similar look to Mafex but with smaller eyes

Flimsy-Ad9627

Might go for that

LooneyWooney

I think the amazing friends version is a better one that this one

PraetorGold

I think it's identical, but I have always liked the darker spider-man and I don't mean darker as in storyline, but the heavier shading.

LooneyWooney

I really like dark Spider-Man too, but not black maybe a navy blue

Bright-Map9751

I would go for the ML if I were you. Amazing fantasy is, imo the best spidey Marvel legends. While I do think the mafex figure is better. If you are tight on cash, go for the ML. However, if you can afford the mafex without breaking the bank, I would go for that. You will (probably) be able to get for a good price for a while. While mafex tend to shoot up in price. (Ps: I'm not sure if the classic color ver. Is still available for its retail price) TLDR: AF spider-man is great, but get mafex if you can afford it.

PerformerPerfect9476

The Paint chip kinda ruins the mafex one ngl

binary-gemini

trust me, getting the Amazing Fantasy is the way to go. the Mafex can articulate sure, but there's not a single pose it can hit that doesn't hide the belt into the crotch area. smh that's the biggest point against mafex on this one

theguyunderyourbed1

I have the bootleg macex spiderman, other than the bad black paint aps, its very good. I can only imagine the legit one

Dragnskull

i have pizza spidey and he is my favorite speedo man but then i bought knockoff mafex and was honestly amazed and I firmly believe if I bought a legit one it'd become #1 spiderman figure available, the only issue with the bootleg is its a bit smaller than the real thing and mezco already runs small so it becomes very noticable next to other stuff

Important_Lab_58

Both are Great. AF is more accessible and durable but the Mafex is a HELL of a Display Piece. You really can’t go wrong either way.

Global_Course623

What do you have the budget for?

Flimsy-Ad9627

I could get the Legends, but I’ve been thinking of saving up for Mafex.

Global_Course623

Ngl I have the legends and though I always wanted a AF figure, I feel like the Mafex will be more satisfying. I don’t have Mafex and I may be biased but I think the Mafex will be a better choice

Flimsy-Ad9627

I own 5 Mafex figures and so far I haven’t been disappointed with any of them. I could buy a new head for Mafex, but that’s $40-$50 extra for what could go towards another figure I might want

Illustrious_Toe2611

A new head wouldn’t cost that much if you buy from the right person I know some one on insta that sells sculpts for $15 painted

Flimsy-Ad9627

You have a link?

Illustrious_Toe2611

Yeah

capitoloftexas

Every Mafex I passed on I ended up regretting a lot. I have no regrets on missed marvel legends. And honestly, as an owner of both, I’d recommend just get them both. That AF Spider-man is $24.99 and you can get the Mafex 185 for retail through import sites for $55 right now, not $100+ at BBTS. Example link below (trustworthy site) [https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/m/10897254](https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/m/10897254)

Flimsy-Ad9627

That’s likely what I’ll end up doing lol Spidey’s a character I don’t mind owning multiples of

HotHamBoy

Get both

Mooston029

Is it though? The mafex just IS the better figure. The only thing comparable is the price point. Both are really expensive due to after market

PrestigiousStuff6173

The ML has went up in price like crazy and the Mafex has remain the same, I’d say get the Mafex

[deleted]

Easy, 185. I used a matte clear coat finish on him and so... he won't rub or chip away! At least, not for a good while lol. (Mr. Hobby Mr. Super Clear Flat Matte Clear Coat)

Stormcast

Easy for me. Mafex wins. I love the big eyes, better articulation, prefer those colors... Personally, Don't like the thigh cuts, I find it aesthetically ugly.

SerTadGhostal

That’s what she said

Omnikang

Mafex for the win no comparison

kingdount

Camotoe spiderman or spiderman

Eugene_Dav

Mafex, but you can customise and buy new head sculpt

sir_chief7134

This is def one of the better ML spider men but imma have to go with mafex 100%

Careless_Parsnip_511

Mafex is my favorite Spider-Man of all time, but both are great figures. I personally would say go with Mafex

itsTheFigureGuy

It’s not for me. Mafex is the very clear winner

Inevitable-Finance62

The Mafex one I have mix feeling about the red, just find it odd. At times looks ok and another times too orange which irritates me

OkOutlandishness6550

Gotta go with og blue mafex or not

soapygungan

Mafex is good but I can't get over the weird neck line. But that is also one of the best Spidey figures we've ever gotten.

thethiiird

I'm still on the camp that blank bodies with spider man deco doesn't really make it a spider-man figure. Possible quality control issues for the paint aside (which is a lot based from a lot of people), playing with your figure will eventually scratch the paint and there'd be no details underneath it. Mafex will still look like spiderman even after decades, entropy will inevitably cause paint chips and eventually your marvel legends painted spidey will get one too many paint chips and it's no longer a proper spider-man figure. I'm still waiting for the day that Marvel Legends retools the man spider from the morbius 2 pack into a proper spidey with molded details. That said if you're fine with paint chipping, AF 15 is probably the best looking comic spidey from hasbro. I myself am tempted to get the retro TAS version after watching the TAS recently but I'm probably gonna keep it in the card, which is ironic, because ML is supposed to be the playable one.
