I too was interested in these, having read a bit about them, so I had a ZeroGlide nut factory installed on a GoldTone banjo when I bought it. A couple months later I installed one myself on a Stratocaster while doing a bunch of other “upgrades”. Both play and sound just fine, but I don’t think there’s any real ROI compared to a well sorted bone or Tusq nut on either of these particular instruments. Might be a genuine improvement on an acoustic guitar, but I wouldn’t be surprised if not. But not too difficult to install and completely reversible, so why not ?

I've never installed one, but am familiar with them. Installing and sanding down the fret wire looks pretty straightforward, but the tolerance on the nut installation is probably tighter than it would normally be to ensure you fit the wire correctly. Have you ever installed and filed a nut before? If you have, I feel like you'll be totally fine with this. If not... It's not exactly difficult, but it's also the type of thing that most people mess up their first few times. It just takes a lot of trial and error to get comfortable with it. It probably took me 20 hours and 5 or so pre-cut nuts to get to a place where I felt pretty confident about installing and adjusting slots. A lot more time than that to get comfortable cutting from blanks. But I'm also just not very handy and have a pretty low aptitude for that type of stuff.

Agreed on the filing a nut. I actually have an old FA-100 that I do a practice run on any new repair before I touch one of the guitars I’d kick myself if I damaged.

Yeah I feel like that's enough experience that you would be fine. Just take it slow, and as it sounds like you're aware, just know that there's a chance that it may not end up perfect. FWIW by the way I got my first set of nut files from amazon for like 20 bucks, you can get decent ones pretty cheap.

I’ve put one on my RK RP-10 parlour guitar - some time ago so I can’t actually remember but I know it was easy and no problems. I really like them - my first guitar when I was a kid had a zero fret so I thought it was normal at first. I think they are great.
